ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

That sucks about HoV dropping to $25. Any other updates on trade in values? I saw a used Monster Madness at my GS, maybe I will grab that one.
 
I've got to remember to check this week on the TIV for Pimp My Ride on the 360. Could be a worthwhile flip next week from CC (and a little extra help from a Sears PM).

Monster Madness only trades for 22 last i checked.
 
By the way, I've been trying to update the Wiki but it keeps giving me errors when I try to save changes. So someone else will have to do it if they can. Cheapy told me to "stand by" as apparently big changes are coming with respect to Wiki/Forum integration ;). But in the mean time people here want updated prices and I can't do it...

Hehe - I have yet to finish Age of Empires myself... I forgot how I got out of that $40 thing - I think I did push them to refund me - as always, it depended on the employee. Some would grant credit at the drop of a hat and other said it was impossible :roll:.

Damn, I want Professor Layton and my Gamecrazy (where I preordered it) has not called me about it. And stupid GS has their $5 "fee" added to that one as well. Time to call GC...
 
My GH guitar broke, so I'm in need of a new one, and the way that I want to get it is by trying out this whole flipping thing. Does anybody have a list of the best games to do this?

-The Bigs ($32) (PS3/360?)
-The Darkness ($25) (PS3/360?)
-Marvel($15)/Forza($22) combo (360)
-Motorstorm($30) (PS3)
-Hour of Victory($25) (360)
-Pimp My Ride (360) [will be $7.50 at CC next Sunday and Monday]

Are there any others and can anybody give me the updated trade values for them? I'm armed with the 25% off coupons at GS and will buy an EDGE card when I pick some of these games up. I'm not looking to kill GameRush, but I do want to earn enough credit to pick up a guitar and maybe another controller or something.

You just beat me to it... I went out to my local CC to snag 2 copies of them. It trades in at $15.

You can buy it now for regular price, then when the sale starts, go back to the customer service area and get the price adjusted to sales price.
 
wow I just got rejected trying to trade in copies of 2 forza's and 2 ultimates at my BB, then I went to another BB and they took one, but then I asked the guy if he can do it again he said no to the other two. Either the BB's where I live are complete jerks or somethings going on.

it could also be that my printer is jacked up and only prints bright red....
however I have fixed it... but even then they shouldn't be giving me a hard time because of that
the games had no scratches
 
Ahh gotcha. Well for my plan to work I have to wait until I have the ad in hand so I can take it to Sears for a PM. Now that I think about it I had better make sure Sears has this game in stock.

Samething is happening to me. Do them separatly and you'll have better luck. I think the system might be flagging the employees if you do both at the same time. YMMV

i just picked up 4 pimp my rides also ;)
 
Madden 06 (360) $6 before coupon & Edge card, about $4 after.
Trades in for $8 according to latest update.

azn baller is saying it gets $15. Anything that will approximately double my money is something worth flipping.

Do i buy my second playstation with 15 different gift and value cards? I bring in the original value card that was issued from the same store, but they say they cant reload it and they end up giving me gift cards. So now i have accumlated tons of cards worth ~$30 each.

If you're talking about Pimp My Ride, Sears should already have it on clearance for $4.97 or less, at least mine and several others' did......

i was LUCKY enough to get the PS3 CE of DMC4...for only $59.99...i was afraid they were gonna charge me the full $79.99 since i only put $5 down but for some odd reason they just charged me the remaining $55 and i was on my way :whistle2:D sorry for the lateness of this post but just got back from a LOONNNGGGGG bbv run...bought a nintendo ds black version (and going to get a blue one tomorrow)...im very tempted to keep this black one...as a reward for all my hard work...anyone else think i should keep it?
 
I just got a lucky deal at GR. I found a used copy of Phantom hourglass marked $19.99. When the guy opened it up, it was brand new and sealed. I commented that it was strange that it was sealed, but he just shrugged and rang it through. He scanned the barcode on the Blockbuster sticker instead of the UPC code. I looked at it when I got out to the car, and it turns out that someone had mislabeled it as Legend of Spyro for the DS, which was on the barcode sticker and the receipt. It has "not for resale" on the back of the case, so I assume it was a pack-in or something. Whatever, a new Phantom Hourglass for $20 in GR credit works for me. :D

Both stores have given trade in values over the phone. If you need a quote, call one of these two stores, which are at opposite ends of the country. No more complaining you can't get a quote over the phone.

MUA and Forza 2 are still at $15 and $22 respectively.

Also, if anyone wants to flip their credit over the FYE at a 1:1 ratio (or very slightly higher), Blockbsuter is having their 3/$20 sale on pretty much every recent DVD. FYE gives $7.50 for most recent newer DVDS. Basically, pay $20+tax at Blockbuster, and get $22.50 at FYE. This is great if your GR has a terrible selection.

djkunai are you sure about the TIV for those DVDs? I'm reading the FYE thread and it states that most of the TIV are based on http://www.secondspin.com None of the DVDs you listed sell for $7.50. Did you trade those in yourself and confirm that's how much they are? Thanks

anyone try to trade in a alliance and forza 2 to gamestop?

I made an attempt to trade Forza 2 (from bundle) to GS a few weeks ago; I think they quoted $5, much less than I was expecting. I decided to steal a cover that day and traded at GR instead.:twisted:

I flipped 6 DVDs today...

Fye wouldn't take them since they had "stickers" and a Blockbuster case, so I walked a few stores down to Suncoast (Same company) and they took them no problem. I was quoted about $6 each, but that was apparently the cash price.

thats flat out stealing, By the way I finally caved in and got a edge card...., dude hooked me up tho... gave me a free DMC4 art book and an assasins creed art book as well.....don't care for the AC, but DMC4....sweet

Do what you gotta do... im in the same boat but i only have 4 cards, but each one is over 100 dollars so either way im going to get funny looks.... but i'll be smiling the whole time!:lol: AND THEY ARE MESSING WITH YOU , THEY CAN RELOAD THE SAME CARDS, IT EVEN SAYS IT ON THE CARDS.

crap i just picked up 6 movies to do the same. was hoping they would take them with the bb cases. now i have to swap out my own dvds with the bb cases. i also picked up sicko that has "blockbuster exclusive on the disc and cover". they most likely won't take that huh?

on another note, i got rejected at kinkos when i asked them to print me some mua/forza covers.

As a side question, is there a way to search on CAG, and have it highlight the page # your searched terms show up on? I see the entire thread that they fall in, but I could never figure out if I could go the actual page/post...

Well, it seems YMMV on the BB cases. Suncoast in Montebello took them no problem. But in the same mall a few stores down, FYE told me it was "company policy".

So its a risky flip considering you cannot return the DVDs you buy from Blockbuster. I would love to get more FYE/Suncoast credit. They tend to have nifty items.

They CSR told me I wouldn't get the bonus since the bag wasn't "FULL". Which I argued how do you describe full, but I figure not to argue too much since I was glad I wasn't refused in the first place.

I did get a 20% bonus, but I believe that is the store credit bonus. YMMV, I may decide to flip more movies since I do have a stash of BB credit and Fye/Suncoast credit wouldn't hurt...

Plus, the movies aren't such a bad deal at 3 for $20 if I ended being unable to flip them, Ill just toss it on ebay... Since I've already seen most of them.
 
Picked up a random Tony Hawk PG (360) at Target today clearanced at $7.34. It appears to be a leftover from the big LE clearance - it's most likely going to Blockbuster, but if there's any CAG interest, I'm up for offers.

Well, I just pulled off my first BB/GR flip. I used the 25% off coupon at GS to snag HoV and The Bigs. Then went to Wal-Mart and got one of the $20 Wii 2-pack games. I then continued to BB to net $25, $32, $16, and $16, respectively. I'm disappointed the HoV value dropped before I could get there, but what I found while there more than made up for it.

While perusing the games, I glanced behind the counter and discovered a Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix...complete bundle. I inquired about the price, and the guy told me "$44.99". Suffice to say, I was all over it! So, after investing roughly $48 and Houdini'ing it into $89, half of that turned into a Mario DDR worth well over what they were selling it for. I know my lack of experience prevents me from calling this a "kunai", but I feel pretty good about this as a first effort.
