ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

I wasn't quoting you man, sorry you took offense. I just live right by the GR. There is a GS right off of k10, 119th and 1-35 by best buy, target, home depot, amc 30, and they always have at least 3 or 4 MUA/forza packs (well they did until I bought 3 of them) there was still one left yesterday.

Exactly - but if he's willing to take BB credit in exchange, then that is a different matter. I've traded credit for GR stuff in the past (though just games and nothing that was worth more than what it cost). Of course I cover the cost + more for shipping + a bit extra. However, that "shipping" cost is in BB credit... My only hesitation is that for most people here I'd have to cover tax, too, and that's something I'm not used to paying. A DS should be $129.99 - no more, no less. I mean, once we've added tax + shipping + extra + a factor for it being in credit and not cash, I'd probably have to send $160-$170 so in BB credit and even despite it being utterly worthless to me, being a cheapass I still think that's too much ;).

I guess I should check the "best" (non-GR) store near me - who knows, they may have decided to carry DS's for some reason all of a sudden. They did just set up that big PS3/Blu-Ray demo station there so who knows what's next ;).
 
That's fine. I don't care either way, just trying to be nice, unlike what most people thought I was trying to be. I don't think that i'll have any problem selling it. I went to 4 GR's today and one had 4, one had 2, one had 3 and one had 0.
 
Kunai'd another Forza 2 and MUA along with Motrostorm. I was checking out the used games and I'm not the only one in the area kunai'ing. I found a few MUA/Forza 2 games with printed covers and in black cases, so that answers my question about if the cases need to be system appropriate.

Where are you located? Sounds like that was me. Also, I'm stuck in class right now- curious as to the TIV for Pimp My Ride (360). Can anyone call?

I have been to 7 GS around here and none of them have the MUA/Forza bundle. I am pretty sure they split them to sell separately. I see a bunch of Forza2 without covers.
 
Hooray! Went in to my local podunk Blockbuster and they had the giant SSBB preorder poster up in the window. Needless to say I was the first person to preorder but at least the guy (who I'd never seen before) knew how to do it. He checked a couple times and assured me it would be in on the 9th of March. We shall see... Hopefully this means I can save $50 in Gamestop credit, though it means going in and cancelling my preorder there which is always a hassle.

I really don't know why they don't sell games at my Blockbuster, yet they have several copies of the $16-$20 game guides for things like Mario Galaxy and Mass Effect. I'd think games would sell better than strategy guides. Oh well... Hopefully this trend keeps up and all the super-big releases are available for preorder. Though if I'm the only one who does it I'm not sure if my local store will continue to participate. What other huge releases do you guys think they might do this with? I figure Mario Kart for sure - don't know about any of the 360 games, though, as none seem to have that huge mass-market appeal that these Nintendo games do (and Halo 3 did before though my store didn't do that one).

Anyway, it is kind of amazing and brings back all that GR nostalgia that the receipt looks just like the old GR preorder receipts. I guess I figured they wouldn't be set up for that sort of thing and it would look different. Kind of silly I guess but of course it makes sense since it is really the same system...

That's why I love that I'm the only CAG in my area because most of the CAGs in my state live in other parts that don't shop at the GS/EB that I frequent.
 
Ugh..I got a mint copy of non-bundled Motorstorm. Until I removed the sticker on the bottom on the back side. There is a giant hole punched through the bar code. WTF is that?!!

Guess I'll keep this copy and get another for flipping.

Last couple of trades I took to them, they didn't scan anything, just manually entered everything into the computer. I asked if they needed the complete copy (manual, etc.) and (at least at my local GC) they said they only require the disc.

That was a promo copy given to someone who works with Sony.

i just traded in some games namely the darkness, HoV, and the Bigs.

I had no problem selling bought the darkness and HoV, but the wouldn't accept The Bigs for some reason. I ask why they couldn't accept it and the employee said there was something in the system that said they couldn't accept it. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone.


I was thinking that it may have to do with the different covers of the bigs one with Puljos and the other with Morneau. Do they have different barcodes?

OR

Probably the more probable reason is that a large amount has been kunai'd at BB.

The Bigs still works as of 7:12 PST. I just traded in two copies.
 
Excellent score today....got the Marvel UA/Forza 2 pack for 12.99 and Hour of Victory for 11.69 from Gamestop, both after the 25% off coupon and edge card. $26.16 out the door. Then went to game rush and traded in all three games for $69.00. Add to that my $22 in credit, picked up GH3 for $11. Nice.

I move quick today so that I didn't get hit with any of those games dropping in trade in price.

Weird cause I just tried to trade it in at 9:15 EST and they wouldn't accept it.


Edit: Just called another store and they said they would accept it but its just a bit far away and I don't want to drive this late at night, crossing fingers that they still have the $32 stays tomorrow.
 
Hi, first time poster. As of 2/11 at 10:20 PM EST I got $25 for my last two copies of HoV so I guess a price drop is in effect. Still seems like an OK deal with the 25% coupon and Edge though.

I had the Morneau cover for the 360 and they wouldn't accept it cause it wouldn't scan. Lazy employee didn't even want to look it up.

Anyway, wonder what's going on with that.
 
anyone think it's worth it to go get some flippers(The Bigs, The Darkness), when there is a potential trade-in drop tommorow.

I think it would probably be better to get confirmation tommorow, then go pickup the copies.

Thoughts?

Also, do the Trade in values update first thing in the morning? (i.e, I call them, they confirm the trade-in values, then I decide whether to pickup copies)

I would buy them anyways if its convenient just because of the return policy.

For the TIVs, I do believe they update right away. =X
 
I got lucky today.... just finished trading in a "plethora" of games and ended up with 400 in credit and only spent about 140.... I got real lucky when one store gave me an extra 5 for each game:D As of a half hour ago all prices for HOV BIGS MUA/FORZA and DARKNESS were in full effect.
 
I sure as hell hope MUA and Forza 2 don't go down tomorrow! I just bought it with the 25% off at GS, and my BB doesn't accept the combo pack anymore (1st time I traded it in, the guys had no clue what they were doing and were told they can't accept games with the barcode anymore)...ughh

which location? that would greatly help nearby CAGs
 
Oops, almost forgot... GAMERUSH in Mission Hills,CA on sepvulveda/ devonshire... in the Los Angeles area...hope that helps, I scored an extra 25, and there are about 5 other stores within > 5 miles of every direction...

At least HoV will still double your money with the 25% coupon after the price drop. I'll finally have time to trade over the next couple of days, so I think I'll flip a few.

The flipping value must have changed right at 12:00 EST, because i got 32 for HOV just two hours earlier..

The CDs are $14.99. I noticed a few more versions today.

Darn it, I ran around to 4 GS stores today and grabbed a bunch of stuff to trade. By the time I hit BB/GR the prices already dropped. I'm too lazy to return the games to GS so I traded them in anyway. I still made extra from the games, just not double like a few days ago. Guess I know to do all my trades before Tuesday midnight EST from now on. :roll:
