ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Just read back a few pages.
BB will accept game trade-ins and will at least preorder the upcoming consoles. Managers at my BB were not clear if their respective stores would receive any MGS4 80 bundles but I put $15 down so that store should receive at least one. BBs will not be receiving the GOW PSP bundles (according to one store manager) but again, I preordered one (it may be too late to preorder this one) and the store should receive at least one bundle by next Wed.

$30 w/wheel. Was in there the other day getting some movies and it was on the big tiv board.

I was just about the say the same thing. Although, there was no mention of the wheel, so I don't know if its required w/ trade-in.

I also put down $5 on Lego Indiana Jones; they had it listed for 6/3 up on their board, so it kinda seems as though they are getting better about getting games in on time (at least with some of the bigger releases).
 
I was finally able to preorder the MGS4 bundle. I was asked to put only $5 down but they also ended up charging me tax, $5.41. I dont know if that is normal. This is the first time i preordered from BB, so i found it weird that it was not $5.00. I also thought $5 was too low to preorder the system.

How much did you preorder and when is it suppose to come in?

Interesting - we've never heard this 6 month thing before. I believe that is what I had on mine.

The funny thing is I thought for sure I had one of those at one of my lightly-used Blockbusters just recently but when I took a closer look (as the screen was turned so I could see it) it was a flashing warning not to rent M rated games or R rated stuff or something (which I assume is just a default account setting unless you deactivate it). In any case the trade went fine there.

But wait, thinking about the 6 month thing some more - my Beowulf troubles were in mid Dec. That means the 6-month period wouldn't be up till mid-June. But I was clear and free at 2 of the trouble stores as early as mid-May. So maybe in that case they actually did clear it off as promised (took them a while as I had last checked in Feb or so and they hadn't done it then). Like you, aaa, they had thought I was stealing games from elsewhere and trading them in because I had traded a whopping 4 Beowulfs into different stores :roll:. I offered to show the manager of one store all the receipts but she didn't said that wasn't necessary. She said she'd talk with the DM to get it cleared up. I called back several times and there was always some excuse (DM was out of town, or she was just there but she forgot, etc). I finally gave up but then I decided to try my local store a few weeks ago and had no problem trading. Then I just tried the store where that manager works last weekend and she was there - no problems trading at all. So if the warnings don't fall off for 6 months by themselves then that means they actually did get it cleared up for me.

So, aaa, if they think you are stealing from elsewhere and trading then just offer to show them the receipts of your original purchases. Yeah, they might not like that you got them cheap and made money trading them in, but it's a hell of a lot better than having them think you stole them all. I'm sure that must actually happen pretty frequently - they certainly seem to look for this at regular (non-GR) stores where they aren't used to seeing lots of trades.

Sonicthehedgehog1337 - Let aaa's tale be a warning though. That is exactly what I was talking about. And especially in your case if they told you your games are still under the counter they might get suspicious if you trade a duplicate in. Then you'll get some too-clever-for-his-own-good clerk all excited that he caught a "thief" in the act of pawning stuff off. aaa traded 20 games into 7 stores (you made that clear, aaa - people just don't read sometimes ;)) - certainly not enough at each store to raise any flags but all it takes is one guy to call another store, compare notes, etc. That is what happened to me - all a result of me trying to be friendly. I casually mentioned I had to fill out another trade form at a store I was at earlier (because the trade accounts expire after some period of time). Of course junior detective there had to go and call the other store to check that out and that's when they found I had traded Beowulf there as well. So now I keep my mouth shut :lol:.

I called several BBv in my area and all of them told me they can't do the preorder because it is not on order, so not sure if they will get any of those in. The best
they can do for me is give me a call and hold one for me when they actaully receive the bundle.. really want to preorder one so don't need to call around and look for one after release.

Anyways, waiting on a call from the DM. I talked to one store manager, who said it was "against the law" to trade in more than 1 copy of the same game. I had him pull ny trade account and show in the 2 per day thing. He said "Hmmmmmm". Then he said something about even though its a glitch in the system that allows the trade (huh?), that employees are supposed to know better and I must have got some "unknowledgable employee". I pointed out that last month he took two of the same game (Sega Superstars Tennis) because I also had an eye of judgement, and he made me take back the camera and other stuff. Got another "Hmmmmm" out of that one, so I decided I needed to talk to another higher up.

Well, just for you, I called and spoke to my local BB manager, Kelly.
She sees No issue with you preordering a MGS4 80 bundle at you BB.
IF you decide to call again, Ask for the Store Manager, Not the manager on duty (unfortunately, she offered many MODs do not understand all the rules/routines). Have the order number ready (I posted that a couple pages back) for some reason even Kelly had a hard time finding it in the system.
Good Luck! and again, don't wait too long, as she strongly suggested a three week lead on preorders such as this for a BBuster format (Vs Gamerush).

By the way, I am yet to be "flagged" (ignorance is bliss) for trading in 6 NBA 08s at one store (2 per day) I leave them wrapped, am totally upfront about finding a great deal on them and that if the trade value has dropped, I may want to return them. (on each transaction, I do trade in other games...some still wrapped and some not but mint/complete)
By the way, don't let any of those PS3 $4.98 Target Virtual Tennis games sit...they fetched about 2.5 times last week.

Im in LB, I tried ordering everywhere but i got denied. I finally tried a store that i havent been to for 5 months because i had to lay low. New staff and everything, The manager was eager to take my preorder. I asked if he knew if he was going to get any and he said, 'well with your preorder, we will order one.' Score!

I'd imagine that trading your games still sealed is the BEST way to get your account flagged. When they see people trading a sealed game, they instantly think that the trader swiped it from somewhere. Even when i do buy games new, I open them and I will put a bit of dust (plenty of that on the inside of my car, lol) on the discs, so when they inspect them, i can say "They're probably a bit dusty, but they should be in good condition". Lowers the "suspectibility" a huge amount.

What BB did you get your 80gb preorder? I went to one BB today and the girl couldn't find the 80gb in the system. She said that she thought that the 80gb had been discoutined. Unfortunately, the store manager wasn't in. I called another BB and the guy told me that they would start taking preorders on Tuesday.

I respect your opinion. I had the receipts with me and conducted most trades with the store manager or mod....I just traded in 2 more NBAs about an hour ago...I thought that was it....but found 1 more magically at my nearest Target...now to a new BB!

They always say I keep all of my discs in excellent condition!
 
Well, after another try at BBV for WiiFit, I was told one would be held for me when they came in today. Well, they came and went and was not called as the manager had promised. So forget it, I'll just sell that gift card instead and be done with them entirely.

Thats a great idea, grabbing dust. I usually crumple the instruction booklet a bit to make it look used.

I unearthed a cache of NCAA March Madness tonight myself. One Target had a couple and another had about 8. I was quite surprised. Still, I was there for the points cards (semi-successful in that endeavor - read the $10 off coupon thread for that saga) so I just picked up 1 copy. I've already double-dipped that at one store and traded it everywhere else I can trade. I'm trying to decide if I want to double-dip on the Gamecrazy price match (since it has been about 3 weeks since I did that) or double-dip at a Blockbuster. I'll probably go with GC since they just don't do this bizarre banning thing (that I've ever heard of anyway). If they were to ever have a problem with a trade-in they would just simply refuse it which is a much more reasonable approach!
 
I was wondering if in the OP or in the Wiki, can we get a "Hot FLIPS" or similar section. I try to keep up with this thread but it is hard to look at the for e.g. Target Clearence thread then try to come over here and see what the current TIV is.

Just a suggestion.

Ah, well, we had that in the OP until one day when my Wiki editing worked again and I put all those values back in the Wiki. Now my Wiki editing isn't working again so maybe I'll start it back up. But when the Wiki is working (and I've invited anyone else to take it up for me but no one has) it works just fine. Look at the Target thread, see what is cheap, cross reference to the Wiki. Pretty easy... I'm hesitant to promote the great values TOO much in this thread in case Blockbuster is watching. But then they haven't done much very quickly about some of the great trade-ins so far, so I don't think they really care about us (which is good!).

sorry it didnt work out. Same thing happened to me, the manager 'held' a wii and wii fit.

So how much do you want for you credit? ;)

Okay i understand that.

I will help with the wiki if you want, That will also help me catch good trade in values.

I am currently off for the summer, I am looking for a job, but as of now I am online quite a bit, just not posting that much.
 
I usually open up the games, rub the discs against my jeans and put some finger prints on it, and fold the manuals especially in one of the corners.
 
am I the only one who just opens the game and trades them in like that? I just tell them that I'm EXTREMELY careful with all of my games and it works just fine.

Same here. I just say when your paying $60 per game (I know, it is a lie most of the time), I don't just throw my disks around.

your not the only one. they always say you take such good care of you games and i just say its easy when there are no kids in you house.
 
ugh just came back from two gamerush stores and both said that they dont take preorders for the MGS4 PS3 bundle, they only take preorders for games. One of the manager informed me that they will get about 5 or 6 bundles on 6/20.
 
Does anyone know if it's possible to special-order DVD sets at Blockbuster? Specifically, the I Love Lucy collection. It's ~$160 everywhere, but I've got a bunch of credit. Blockbuster Online doesn't carry it for purchase (if they did, I'd just use my credit to buy giftcards and buy it there), and I'd love to pick it up at a discounted rate.

It doesn't. BB doesn't price-match.

EDIT - Upon further inspection, US Blockbuster's don't special order - though the Canadian BB's do no problem. Took my NCAA March Madness 08 to Gamecrazy today for a trade-in price match using a 1 week old trade quote from Blockbuster (price is still $30 from last report in this thread but I didn't want to stop and get a new quote) with no problem. Man, I like Gamecrazy. I'll have to drop some more preorders there as soon as the big Fall games start getting announced (there is like nothing coming out the next 6 months that I want in the slightest).

Searching the thread earlier today it looks like we haven't had any recent quotes for Blue Dragon and Avatar. I'll probably give those a shot at Blockbuster tomorrow. I had a couple that I was going to return to Target but instead I was able to return/repurchase with the $10 off coupons making them $4.98 and $2.98. Since I needed a new case for my Blue Dragon (it came damaged) I'll probably swap the case out and trade it in. I'm hoping it is still $15, and Avatar is still $12 (both quotes from May 18th).

If they have it in their system you should be able to special order it. I was special ordering SCTV season 1 since they had it for 23,99 but this was a few years back

Got Condemned and Viking with 10% email coupon and 10% edge at Gamestop.
If the b2g1 free starts this week, figure i can rebuy/return a condemned 2. Viking used is tough to find.

Indiana Jones stuff is starting to be clearanced, so anyone looking for the DVD case or any of that stuff. Still no Fedoras around here :bomb:

Halo 3 print is also clearanced with a few more 'new' to clearance. No Hannah Montana on sale, yet. :bomb:

Don't recall specific prices but the whole rack had the pink clearance prices. Will be going back tomorrow, will get some more info then.

Following the threads about gamestop on CAG, rumor/opinion/fact is that towards the end of the Gamedays sale they will tack on buy 2 get 1 free on used.
