ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
They still have a bunch of 3 packs at my Target also....but I don't like to trade more than 1 copy.
:whistle2:#
Traded in March Madness and Stranglehold tonight for $30 and $36, respectively. Also found a Coke cap in the BB parking lot. Pretty awesome trip in my mind.
haha at the coke cap. Everytime i find one i feel like i found a dollar, even though 8 caps is only worth a 20 oz.

Fight Night Round 3 for PS3 gets $16. My target had a bunch for $14.98. I thought it was worth $36 a few weeks ago, i'm glad I called before I bought all of them.

Traded the following today:

Assassin's Creed (360) - $22
Trauma Center: New Blood (wii) - $30
SOCOM fireteam bravo 2 (psp) - $7

AND apparently they give you tax on it too...$5.09 in tax.

I picked up ninja gaiden II for $1.07 :)

I dont think they give you tax they just give you a straight $ amount for it. At least my store did.

On a sidenote I wanted to confirm that TIV prices change on TUESDAYS correct?

Oooh, thanks!. My Target is well behind others on most games (eg, Viva Pinata $20.98) but for some reason they had a bunch of these at $7.48. At just over a double I won't bother to get any more, but I'll trade the one I did pick up.

It depends on the state. For example, in VA they give you tax but in neighboring MD they don't. Yes, prices change on Tuesday.
I see none of these ESA game packs at Targets, where would they be exactly? end cap? behind the glass
I've only seen 1 at 5 Targets so I think they are fairly hard to come by. They could be anywhere games could be! The one I found was with the rest of the clearance games.

Update from
Friday TIV

KR:American Idol - 35
MLB 2k8 - 32
Turning Point - 28.50 (People in Midwest with Meijer, this can be had for 19.99 before various different coupons or store deals) I had picked it up for 10 a while back
seems gamestop gots the trade in two next gen games get an extra $10...there gots to be some potential there...
Indeed - that changes everything. I wish I had saved some of those games I traded the other day for what will turn out to be even more in GS credit (which is 100x more useful).

I still have a Cars, a Monster Madness, and a CoD2. Though it is likely CoD2 is excluded if it trades for $1. I also have March Madness 08 for PS3 though I doubt I'll get more than $30 for that. Fight Night Round 3 is one I was going to trade to BB tonight but I may hold off till I can call GS for a price tomorrow. If that is anywhere close (after the extra $5) to BB's price ($16) and isn't excluded because it is a Sports title, I'll just take it to GS where you never ever get in trouble for trading games in (unless you are blatantly ripping them off via loopholes) and thus don't have to feel awkward trading stuff.

The bigger question is if there are any credit conversion opportunities (from BB -> GS). Bioshock perhaps? If not that then the cheapy stuff like Cars (would be funny to buy those back for trading to GS...). It's too bad Blockbuster seems to have done away with B2G1 and 25% off used game sales - that would be perfect right about now. They'd really be able to unload some stock!

I'm not a hundred percent sure if this is universal or just a wrong sticker, but I saw Beautiful Katamari for $9.99 used at my BB. Didn't purchase it because another BB has the game complete.

I got the three pack of Fuzion Frenzy 2, Cars and Open Season and I was able to trade in Cars and Open season but not Fuzion Frenzy 2 because they said it had the do not resell sign on the barcode and I asked if they would take it without artwork and they said no. So is there anywhere that will take it without the Fuzion Frenzy 2 without the artwork like GS and does anyone know how much they take it back for? Thanks in advance!

Yes GS will take that. You'll get something around $5 for Fuzion Frenzy 2.

thats what i was thinking bout too...opprotunities to convert credit from BB to GS...if only they had the B2G1...that would have been things easier...most games i see at BB are pretty expensive used...i hope for a good flippable game to appear...

That worked for me, and I didn't even print it out in color.

I dont know if I missed it but how much is Timeshift for 360 getting in TIV?

EDIT: Saw that someone said $17 was the recent one...but right before that it was $30... I guess Ill call tomorrow.
hm... funny thing today wen i went in to BB to trade in Stranglehold. The BB that i went to is only my 4th trip there and they said that the store manager had but a hold on my trading account. Its wierd because the only time i was able to trade there was the first time where i set up the trading account and my 2nd and 3rd trip i was unable to trade because they had an abundance number of the games i wanted to trade. So i would go to a different BB to trade them. I was unable to speak to the manager of why i had a hold. Could it be that he is tracking my status from other BB? I usually follow the trading guideline, i would never trade in more than 3 games at once and always took off the price tag, wrapper, etc. off the games. hopefully this doesnt affect me for other BB... =/
If you have a hold on your account, or a balance (not in your case, though) at any blockbuster in your area it should come up on the computer. You use one account between all the stores.

The wiki says $22 as of 4/22/08.

I just called and was quoted $11 for Bioshock at GS (they sell it for $34.99 used, of course). With the promotion and Edge card, you'd get $17.10 for it. Not a 1:1 conversion, unfortunately.

Well I think GS and BB/GR are getting their own spots in my cell phone. Then when I go to target et al I can simply call and ask them about certain games for up the to the minute TIV :D

Uh, balances do NOT show up at other stores - each account is separate. Holds are the same unless they can do some sort of corporate-wide notice but I don't think anyone here has experienced that. I had notes (now gone) at a few stores and not others.

By the way, FNR3 for PS3 gets $10 at GS, so with Edge + extra $5 it is exactly what Blockbuster gives. I'll definitely save it for GS!

I was banned from Blockbuster (gametrading) by their corporate legal department. This was several years ago when the first started up. I was buying PS games at one store and trading in at another for trade in credit and any used game for $9. I amassed over $1000 in credit on my card. I told them I was just taking advantage of their offers, but they refused to take any further trades from me. They don't have a leg to stand on legally, but they guessed (correctly) I wouldn't bother taking them to court. Interestingly, each store had to input the notice banning me so they only did it for all the stores in my immediate area. When ever I am out of town I can still trade.

Yes they do. BB can refuse service to anyone, just like any other business out there.

Balances do show up all computers if your balance goes over $30 dollars. They then put an ICV lock on your account.

Ok went by my local GR today and done some trades heres the current TIV's for the trades I done...
All XBOX 360 with cases and manuals

Gears of War - $22
Halo 3 - $25
Call of Duty 4 - $35
F.E.A.R. - $12
GH 3 (Game Only) - $32
Stuntman Ignition - $8
Battlefield 2 - $12

Picked up GTA IV LE for $89 and WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 for $9

I would look at ninety-nine nights, GS gave me $9 for it a month or so ago.
Think it would be possible for me to turn 100 into 250 using only walmart, hastings, and online sites?
I think GameFly might be your only hope man, sorry to say.

I did a little bit of trading in today...
Jaws Unleashed :xbox: $12
Stranglehold :ps3: $36 (regular versions are $17.99 at Game Stop woot)
Sega Superstar Tennis :wii: $30

Would something Mario Kart get you a 1:1 trade to GS? I would love to transfer my credit over if I could come out close to even on the deal.

Anyone know how much GS will take Forza 2?

I was quoted $5 very early in the year. That was the day I stole a cover and brought it to Gamerush instead.

My balance has been well over $30 - upwards of $200 in my GR days and they never saw that at any other store. Or do you mean money owed? See, no one here would have that problem so if so, it is a moot point. They can't see at one store that I have credit at another store (or my trading history, etc - they need to call each other to figure that out if they are so inclined) which is all that matters to us here... I couldn't imagine ever having a negative balance at a Blockbuster store .

I'm trying to figure out how to get Scene It? for the least amount possible.

Searching TIV's I see:

Mass Effect - $22
Assassin's Creed - $22
Gears of War - $22
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - No TIV, anyone have one?

If I get Assassin's Creed ($30), Scene It? ($40), and Mass Effect ($0)

That's 70 OOP
44 TIV
= Scene It? for $26.

Better... but really curious what Rainbow Six V2 trades for...

Could always go the Stranglehold ps3 + Sega Tennis PS3/Wii route
That is if your BB has a copy of Scene it.

Yea, I already have $400+ in credit at BB, but none of them have Scene It?

Then why not get cheap 360/wii/ps3 games to flip at GS since they have the extra 10 for 2 next gen games? That way ud be at 0 out of pocket :)

So, it doesn't matter which Stranglehold you get for the PS3, whether it's the normal or CE -- they'll both trade for $36? I really want to start stacking up in credit for BIA: Hell's Highway, Disgaea 3, LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, BioShock, Resistance 2, Too Human....

G-damn, there's a lot of great games coming out this year! What other good flips are there aside from Stranglehold and Sega Superstar Tennis?
