ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

So the "no more trading" freeze is just at that one store right? Can't you just take your trades to another BB?

dude are you being serious?.... either way i'm basically going to tell the manager I don't understand why they are giving me such a hard time. I actually look at my history and I haven't traded a same title at that location. However I did trade two forza 2's at another store....

I haven't even abused anything at that store, I have 114$ on my account there..... they didn't refuse to take my trade in's today but she gave me my history and at the bottom it say's no more trading til I talk to amy.... wierd
either way if that employee keeps it up i'll just go to another BB.
 
Damn thats the first time i've heard of them being able to pull up account history, i've been flipping with them for years, and never once had that happen. Granted i've hadthe occasional a-hole, like the guy who straight out told me no to a ps3 today, but that sucks man

Oh, they can print out your 3 month history at any time. I had them do this for me once at Gamerush when they lost track of some of my preorders. I still have that printout somewhere - it is several feet long :lol:. That was more for my benefit though. Certainly they can look through the last 3 months. Anything longer than that and they have to request the info from corporate. As for whether a ban is at one store or many it depends entirely on whether or not the DM got involved and personally called each store in the district to set up the warning. This is what appeared to happen to me - all for 4 360 and 3 PS3 copies of Beowulf traded to different stores. I never traded HoV, Darkness, MUA/Forza or any of that other stuff. I still have some stores I can trade to (either a different district or they just missed 'em) but the whole thing has soured for me. I just use Blockbuster as a trade quote generator for price matching at Gamecrazy now ;). But that means I can never kunai as it is just the occasional game I can do that with.

I noticed several Xbox 360 titles jumped up a few dollars. I figured it was due to the coupon, but perhaps it happened further back.
 
All this ban talk has given me pause. I was going to flip two more HoV games today, but they would be my 5th and 6th copies traded in. That might raise a red flag, and I certainly don't want to be banned. Maybe I should just stop with that particular title while I'm ahead.

Eh, it is completely hit or miss. I traded a lot more into the ONE Gamerush store I had here for a while (it closed about a year ago). I never had any issues there and they thought I was a great customer. Well, I *was* for them, actually as I preordered tons of stuff and bought things there all the time with credit I collected from trading at regular BB's. So I'm sure I helped that one store's bottom line quite a bit even if I wasn't helping out the Blockbuster corporation as a whole that much ;). But I was trading multiples in there (never at the same time though) and they never said a word to me. Then I took a big break from doing any Blockbuster trading when that store closed. I *just* started again in Nov/Dec and got banned from a few copies of one game. But it really isn't an excessive trading issue - I think it all started with some smart-ass podunk store manager with too much time on his hands thinking he uncovered some plot to trade stolen goods or something. I mean, how else could someone have multiple copies of the same game? :roll:
 
Funny thing is one of my stores, and prob my fav, is totally on to me and just kind of laugh at it...they know whats up.... theres one that i thought was cool, but turned out to be a bunch of d-bags, wouldn't let me return sealed merchandise even when i had the receipt, lied about inventory, etc... but in the end I have a few hundred bucks for almost nothing so i m cool with it.
 
One of the reasons I "pushed" the Beowulf thing (if you can call 4 360 copies to 4 different stores pushing it) was because of the Movie cash that was included with them. The sad part is I still have 4 more of those (I did use 2 a while back - had 6 total from 4 BB trades and 2 Gamecrazy price match trades) and I may not end up using them. They expire Feb. 16th if anyone else still has them around. It is possible I can go to a movie Friday so maybe that's the incentive I need ;).
 
i really need to pop these flip games into my 360 before trading them. There is this one clerk at my GR who is super friendly who seems to be an achievement whore. He was asking about the achievements in Pimp my Ride and I had no clue whatsoever and BSed about it a bit. i felt a little bit bad lying since he is so easy to work with.
 
When i was at BB yesterday i saw the two copies of Jaws Unleashed I traded in, for $29.99...I wonder how many years it will take for them to sell those games.
 
man.i guess i can join the ranks of thoze who have been banned :( going to bitch at the DM today and see wtf her prob is. Oh well, i got other people who i can ask to trade games in for me...afterall..isn't that all g/fs and friends are for? hehe

but as lame as this sounds...i decided to keep my Nintendo DS...and am gonna pick one up for my g/f for V-day (cuz she needs something to do anyway). I'll just get mi momma to flip some games for me so i can pick up a couple of DS's at the BBV down by them :)
 
I know this questions is rather subjective, but when is the best time to trade in games?

I.E morning or night?

-I figured morning, you might have a better chance of the manager not being there, however, the employee ight have more time on their hands and inspect trade in history.

-At night, because the blockbuster might be more busy, the manager is likely to be there, however, the employee might take a less cautionary approach to your trade-in history as they would want to move the line along.

has anyone gotten motorstorm and GS and traded it in this week? How much TIV is it at BB/GR?
Looks like today is the end of the used Deal of the wee for it being $20. Do you have to print out the ad cuz I was at 2 GS and neither of them had them on sale or an add there. Thanks

I got one for 19.99 minus the edge discount and traded it right into blockbuster with 2 copies of Bigs(mine and my bro's ;-)
Got $30 for it.
Gamestop's ad on counter was two weeks old but the game is in the system for $19.99
Might want to make sure to get one that doesn't have the 'not for resale' label.
I got the only one without just incase Blockbuster refused it.

Trade 3 games cost $51, 10 minutes of pulling stickers off, go down the road to blockbuster and got $94 in credit. Got Brothers and Sisters season 1 for wife, 1600 Xbox points, and $20 left over.
 
What is everyone doing to get banned? I remember reading that as long as you trade in multiple copies at lots of different blockbusters you should be fine, correct? Second, If you do indeed get banned, does that mean you cant rent movies from bb either or does it just mean you cant trade any more games in? Gamer trying to avoid getting banned!

No. As usual, they say it will be in Friday. Interestingly, however, the manager at one of my local stores says they are going to a new system and will be getting in more new games both in quantity and consistency (unlike the recent No More Heroes which I had pre-ordered and it never came in for purchase). They'll also be stocking more hardware/accessories. This may be why they got in a bunch of the drums-only accessory for Rock Band this week.

Hopefully, this will also mean they'll get games in when other stores get them (usually Wednesday following a Tuesday ship date).

This is essentially what I heard. I inquired about Gamerush and he said that they are doing away with that store format and will be bringing larger gaming sections into all blockbuster stores.

Preordered my copy of Brawl last night with 1/2 price credit thanks to this thread. I also found a traded-in (not rented) copy of Tales of Symphonia for GC for $10. Good visit, overall!

Oh, and the somewhat-knowledgeable GR clerk there said they'd been told that the "next generation" of Wiis would be without backwards-compatability. Uh... right.
 
What has been the recent news with GameRush getting NEW games to sell? I haven't pre-ordered in a while and I want MLB 08 for PS3 and a few others that are coming soon. I just was wondering if I should pre-order or just wait and see what they get it.
 
I"m in ohio, but thats pretty messed up, I don't think i'm banned but I'll find out today for sure.

For Motorstorm, besides not getting the not for resale label, you may want to check the UPC. First one I bought had a hole punched right in the middle so it wont scan at BB. I also saw this with multiple copies at several stores. Just a heads up.

This history thing is giving me a scare. I've only done two stores. Only multiple copies were 3 Bigs and 2 Darkness. Everything else has been single copy. Still got one Bigs and HoV. Was planning on picking up two more HoV today before the coupon expires.
 
well right now i'm arming myself with the front page on blockbusters site that say's "Maximum of 2 items of the same title, per format in a single day." be back in a few hours.

Remember, each store can manage at their discretion. Depends if it is a franchise store or not.

i traded 3 copies of marvel/forza bundle to 2 different locations...but what they treally got bitchy about was printing covers...they said it was "plagurism" (or however you spell it") i looked over to the other games and said YOU TOOK OTHER GAMES WITHOUT THE COVERS?! WTF?! if you don't like it then REMOVE THE F'IN COVER ART! not that big of a deal. what's even more ridiculous is they don't TELL you they're going to ban you...they just DO it...so im supposed to go talk to the manager at my store next week once she talks to the District Manager about my ban. F'in RIDICULOUS!

alright i made my first purchase. I bought DMC4 with credit. I should have preordered for the CE version, i know. Anybody know where i can get a 60gig ps3, 40gig ps3 and a wii in southern california?
 
i can help you on that hopefully..... depending where you are in so cal you can get a 60 gig for 449 at the blockbuster gamerush in mission hills, or culver city/west los angeles on venice. blvd.... those two i know for sure as of last night, i have had no uck finding a 40 gig, but the one in granada hills, ca had 80 gb and I beleive 60 gb as well but you may want to call in advance..... no luck on Wii's out here , one BB teased me by putting to empty boxes in a display case.....the bast'ads.

Forget it, bans are discretionary. Arguing with them will only antagonize the managers, you need to try the sweet and apologetic route.

Nope. Not even the GameRush stores around my area got it in for purchase (only got a few copies in for rental). One of the employees was even bitching about it because they preordered it along with me.

What is the best way to print a cover at office max? I have one right next to blockbuster. Do I bring in a CD or a USB Drive with the image from that covers website?
