ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

I know i had to pay tax on my PS3, which I paid for all in credit. I'm in Michigan.

I must be spoiled with the HoV and Forza/MUA i cant bring myself to go to CC to get Pimp my Ride.

If I remember correctly I had to pay tax on my purchase but when I did my trades they gave me the tax on top of the TIV.
 
I don't think you can still get MUA/Forza 2 combos and I know HoV isn't a 200% flip, even if you use the extra 10% coupon and edge card.

I was asking about the credit cause I'm giving my dad my gift card next time he goes to San Jose for buisness, going to have him buy me a 360 from a Game Rush :)

I just got a 60 GB ps3 here in GA. I paid 27 bucks in taxes on it.
 
Well here how my mess of a day trading goes!

Stopped by Circuit City and picked up 8 of the pimp my ride games thinking $15 each. Has fuzion Frenzy they let me trade in towards the purchase so I ended up spending about 45 bucks on pimp my ride.

Drove out of the way to pick up a wii and stopped by bb to trade in pimp my ride, they scanned it and it only showed $10 bucks trade in. So I was able to do 5 at the $10 bucks. Then I figured I would just dump the rest as I drove home. First bb I stopped at said my account had been suspended as of today. So I started talking about how another manager said it was taken off. BLAH BLAH BLAH!

They wouldnt let me trade in at that blockbuster and I assume any in the surrounding city. Then the manager I talked to last week called me and let me know that I could still trade only AT HIS STORE and that they were looking into suspending my account indefinitely because of flipping/cover art work. The manager is a prick and will not let me trade in multiple copies of any games. I still have 3 of these damn pimp my ride games and they are all opened.

How long do you have to wait for your account to be reactivated/they forget about your trading past? At least I got my PS3 before all this s*** came down!

They recommended I call the DM and have a word, how useful is that going to be to me?

That blows I'd be pissed :bomb:. Has anyone else gotten into trouble for the print off covers? I have one last copy of MUA that got lost in my car during the epic trade day that led to the 60gig PS3, and I'm wondering if I should just hold onto it for a while.

When was the epic trade day?

Oh forgot to let you know that I screwed myself in the first day I started trading because i took in FORZA/MUA in the promotional box and tried to trade it in. Once I did that I was marked because I started trading in mad numbers of the 2 games and the manager immediately remembered seeing me bring in the promotional game! I really brough attention to myself with all the pink covers I traded in, LOL! I was running out of ink and didnt care!

I've never had trouble with printed covers, but mine actually looked good. Obviously you're just asking to get in trouble if you A) brought them in first in the combined case and B) used shitty looking printouts. I've traded in at least 6-7 pairs over the last few weeks without issue, but I'm also using a color laserjet at my office to print the covers.

This week looks to be pretty lame for flipping since there aren't any good GS coupons and most of the trade values have gone down.
 
is Pimp My Ride only sunday and today? or all wk? if so id try to pricematch @ BestBuy since its $50 there. buy and then pricematch. ud only be paying like $3 per game. thats what i did for Monster Madness @ Sears & Best Buy.
 
I also brought in a MUA/Forza 2 pack and then was rejected...only to go b ack with black DVD cases and print out covers and trade em in. I don't understand their basis for refusing/giving shit about print outs. Is it not their policy to accept GAMES for store credit? I am even throwing in the MANUAL...I see them selling/renting games without a case/cover. I am sure it is in their contract in small writing somewhere, so I am lucky I haven't been given shit (well, past the "we need barcodes" line).

Already tried at Best Buy and they said the game has been deleted from the system.

Wish I wasn't busy yesterday. . .

Dude I believe you and this is why I have such a hard time believing DJKunai does so well and doesn't have any problems(or just doesn't post them)

But anyways dude there comes a point where you should just chill... because right now your having BB getting mad at you and will crack down on you and then it's just a matter of the rest of us. I think it's time to cut your losses and take those pimp my rides to ebgames and get that 10$ bonus and be done with BB.
Simply put you Kunai overdosed and killed yourself.

Very well said, unless something comes up in the upcoming week I am going to take a 2 week break from flipping (next week is spring break for my school ill be in vegas with my buddies too drunk and high to kunai). Give the BB a chance to sell all those crappy games i sent there to die.

also your biggest mistake was printing in pink. Another thing is you never admit those are your print outs!.... A big rule for Kunai when in trouble..... DENY DENY DENY!!! You get accused for trading in printed covers. You tell them those aren't my printed covers! Those are how I bought them! But you do this the first time they say something. Don't wait til it's your 2nd or 3rd time you've traded in printed covers. But as soon as they even say something the first time, it should tell yourself that you should stop and take a break.

Actually someone asked me about trading in printed copies and I basically told him thats how I got it and now that I know that I won't ever trade in printed covers again! This in turn made the employee and the manager feel bad and look stupid for accusing me of printing the covers.

Dude ask me why I traded in two Pimp my rides, and I basically said I got them from my cousin for cheap, who knows how he got them and I don't care. BB employee say's thats cool man and laughs and everythings is all good.

Well, I took my *free* credit (from Coke Rewards) and got Lost Odyssey and 2 more Harry Potter plush dragons. You guys need to let me know when stuff like this drops even more. They were only $2.99 this time - I got one for $5.99 or so before. Even worse, I had bought one of those Pirates of the Caribbean Chess Sets for my son's borthday a while back for $12.99 - they are $6.xx now. And I didn't even remember to give it to my son so it is in a closet somewhere :wall:. Oh well...

As for Lost Odyssey, it makes you wonder - I have no idea how they planned to sell this game when they had no indication that they even had it in stock. They had some cases out for other games (notably multiple copies of CoD4 for PS3) but nothing for Lost Odyssey. But since I had called there a few days ago I knew they had a copy - sure enough it was hidden in a drawer somewhere :roll:.

Still, even though this was totally *free* credit (let alone flipped at a fraction of the cost) it pained my cheap-ass heart to see $59.99 ring up on the register. Ouch... My old GR purchases were almost entirely $29.99 preorder deal games and clearance stuff.

But the semi-big news is that this store (note, a NON-GR store) is selling the 40GB PS3 ala carte in addition to the 80GB bundle setup. So if I wanted (and I had that much credit) I could get a PS3 for $399.99 in BB credit - not too bad. But I'm going to hold out for a newer model and/or price drop. At least I know there's a chance they will have them there. This is the one store I know of with the PS3/Blu-Ray demo setup in store so I suppose they push those a little harder than other regular stores. They did NOT have any DS's for sale. It looks like I need a new one as my Onyx one will not charge any more (and is past Nintendo's warranty - $75 to fix it? No thanks, though I may try opening it myself as it could just be a loose cable).
 
io i am so jealous that u got the BB gcs from MCR, i have 1600 points saved up just to get the GCs and of course I didn't see it the day they were up. One of these days...

A few of my local BB (Non-GR) are actually getting PS3s as well. =D

About your DSL, if you don't want to open, why not try buying an external charger for your DS Lite? They have a few at online retailers.

Is this something that charges the battery separately from the DS (ie, open the battery compartment, take it out, charge it, put it back in)? That might be a good idea. I was thinking of using a second DSL (I want anothe one anyway - not just for this) to charge the battery for the first one but a separate charger would be more convenient.

Yeah its clearance price, its normally 8.96 but i used a coupon for $15 of 100...Just picked one up on Sunday so maybe there are still some available at your CC...

I am a recent addition to Flipping. I traded in some games at one GR for 250 and another for 60 I traded in about 16 games only 2 were the same tilte. I dont want to get banned. Is there a limit to how much you can trade in a week or 2. More importantly, What part of the country (state or city) are people getting banned from?

YMMV...it all depends on the manager. No one knows...if you feel you are pushing your luck, you just might be.

If you traded in 16 unique games, you are good....

I wish someone would post when Coke Rewards is offering the gift cards. I have tons of points and I never see gift cards for Best Buy or anywhere else. The only thing I use the points for are Blockbuster free rentals.

Sorry to hear about you're problems:

Only thing I would note for others is don't open all you're copies until you're about to trade them, I leave mine in the wrapper until the very last second.

btw, what time do they update trade-in vales...10a.m. or noon? i traded these in around 10:45 a.m.

Oh I forgot to mention it. When I was calling my local GR stores for a 60 GB, one of them mentioned to me that BB is planning on lowering the price of the 80 GB by $100 in March. I don't remember the specific date but it's early-mid march. Just FYI people.
