ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Does BB rent psp games? im interested in those 2 games
Yes. The one by me does anyway. They have both of those to rent as of today.

Why is my BB such a horrible place? For some reason, they don't have Army of Two in stock. Their reason for this was it got pushed back -_-. No, it didn't. Anyone know what day they stock games on the shelves?

Bee Movie should still get $22, I'm pretty sure that got confirmed earlier this week.

It just sucks you have to pay $68 + tax to buy MLB 08 :ps3: =(
wait, so i could just do the keep it price if i wanted to buy games at my blockbuster? thats amazing, cause my bb has crap games for sale and i need to burn some credit.
Just a heads up.

You can keep them, but remember you need to have the credit on your account at that store, not a value card, because if your credit is on a value card they will automatically charge your credit card that you have on file with them, and I doubt that they would reverse the charge off your credit card and let you use your value card.
They actually probably wouldn't even be able to or know how.

I went to my local GR to pick up MLB 08. They had one copy in the case but the frickin' credit card machines were down! Since I have gift cards and a value card to use I couldn't buy it. LAME!

The best way around this would be to make the main card for your account a pre-paid one with not enough $ on it. The amount would then charge to your account, saving you the hassle of paying cash when trying to burn credit.

If you're lucky, some stores will convert rentals to used copies, saving you the $8 rental fee.

I can confirm that ... same reason as you. I believe the Avatar game is also $22, and it's super cheap at Target too, same price. :)

One to add to the list:

Mario Party 8 (Wii) - $30

Whoa the credit card machines were down at two stores in San Antonio as well. Wonder if there is a chain wide problem?

Yeah I wasn't able to use gift cards tonight.

If anybody has prices for these let me know, I'll be finding out tomorrow regardless...

:360:
America's Army True Soldier
Fatal Inertia
Hour of Victory
MotoGP 07
Ratatouille

:ps3:
NHL 2K8

Confirmed down in Los Angeles too.
Confirmed down in Los Angeles too.
The lady at my store said it's never happened before and she thought it was a problem with the satellite network they use. I may check back tomorrow. They had Patapon, Army of Two, and GoW for the PSP. I didn't see Smash Bros out yet.

Oh yeah any CAGs looking for DS Lites the store near Antioch Mall just got in two black and two pink ones. Only problem is right now the only methods of payment they accept is cash or check :bomb:

thanks for the heads up. i'll have to ask my local bb how this works, and if i can just pay the keep it price on the spot with my value card. if worse comes to worse then ill just start keeping some credit on my account whenever a game i want is about to come out. what about the case and manual? is it once you pay the keep it price you just ask for the case and manual and they hand it over if its available?
Whoa the credit card machines were down at two stores in San Antonio as well. Wonder if there is a chain wide problem?
Same here in OR. They had signs up saying you could only rent 360/Wii/PS3 games with GamePass - I thought maybe it was some new policy . But then I saw at the register they weren't taking cards for anything. Fortunately I was just renting movies with Coke Rewards coupons. I also checked to see if they had SSBB yet and sure enough they had 4 in the drawer up front. I should have asked if I could pick mine up yet but instead I asked if they'd have it for Sunday. Oh well, I had a small chance of getting it early but probably not anyway... Sunday at 10am it will have to be...

I did finally find ONE MLB 08 The Show last night...luckily for me it was th elast one and the CC machine still worked. I then went to another one by my house (since I have a trade account there and didn't feel like setting another one up) and traded in PGR4 in for $22. The machines were down, so now I have $22 on my account. Not a big deal, I'll jus tput it towards GTA4 (unless Army of Two is really $40).

That also was my problem. I went to 3 orlando fl stores and all machines were down.

the only thing worth flipping this week is pretty much all of the Target clearance games, avatar, bee movie, jerico, blue dragon, nhl 2k8, juiced 2. Make sure to use the extra $5 off toy coupon on each $25 purchase.

Weird about the credit card machines, were down in Florence and Erlanger Kentucky as well late last night. The gal at Erlanger said they probably won't be up till monday and something was really wrong with the system. Had to pay cash for a rental as gift cards didn't work, cash or check only. Oh man it felt so dirty paying cash and full price at BB.....

Typical Blockbuster horror story coming soon...I'd went before work to rent Army of Two but none on shelf and literally 17 people in line. We getting about a foot of snow yesterday and today so everyone was at the grocery next door... Got off work and went back still none on shelf and all had been rented straight from box containing Smash Brothers and other stuff. The were confused and angry to be at work lol so I finally just left. Went to next BB and ditto none on shelf and all in box marked do not rent tlll 3/9. After talking them into it they finally broke down and rented me one.. Damn thing came out tuesday then releases at BB on friday according to there computer but they were fighting to stick to the paper on the box.

Wow i looked at the prices for Army Two & everyone is selling it for $60...I wonder if my blockbuster made a pricing error on the 39.99...I'll go checkout at midnight when i pickup Smash Bros.

Just noticed people talking about a $39.99 Army Of Two.
Checked my rental receipt: Own it 03/20/08 for only $59.99 more........

I rented the 360 version.
So do Blockbuster honor sticker pricing error like K-mart?
If they have it stickered and inside of the plastic theft case things where you can't get to the sticker then they SHOULD sell it to you for that price. I've had a couple used games ring up at higher prices before and one new game I forget now but it was a new DS game a while back that was marked $10 to cheap. All were inside the plastic cases so it clearly was a employee error so all were changed manually with no resistance.

Haven't been in this thread or GR for awhile but got a good laugh out of the wall of The Darkness I saw set up on the end of the used game aisle. Looks like I wasn't the only one flipping them. :)

I was planning on swinging by my BB later this afternoon to see if I can pick up MLB 08. I was hoping they'd have the CC problem fixed. The game costs $60 and I have BB gift cards in increments of $15. I wonder if they'd let me leave four of them so they can ring it up whenever they're back on-line? I doubt it but I might ask.

I've had my BB/GR match the pricing error on a new item. When the PS3 first came out the SIXAXIS controllers were supposed to be $49.99 but they had them all marked $39.99. Also about two years ago when they seemed to be running a clearance on new PSP games I bought a copy of Lumines stickered $9.99. It rang up $12.99 and they adjusted it for me.

Picked up MLB 08 from BB this afternoon. the CC machines were back up and running. I used four of my $15 GCs I got from the Coke Rewards prizes back in Dec.

I went to 3 different GR's last night to trade in games, and because the CC machines were down, they could not put the credit on my value card, PITA, but today I went back and got all the credit on my Value card except for my closest store because I will be going there @ midnight to pick up Brawl and I might as well use the 51 on my account. Target has been a freaking GOLD MINE lately... racked up around $300 in credit on only about $100 in Target purchases...

I have a Walmart giftcard that they wouldn't let me buy a Visa GC with, so I will be buying Brawl @ GR and Walmart, and returning the one @ GR for credit. After that, I will have 430 in credit!!!!! Can you say PS3!!!!!

Yeppurs. Did anyone else get a call from their GR today if you pre-ordered? MIne did and I was actually quite impressed with how they are handling this AAA release, let's hope it continues. It looks like GTA IV will be treated the same way.

:360: Bee Movie and Avatar @ $12.50 each, trade in for $22...its probably about the best recommendation unless you get lucky with Best Buy YMMV clearance or something. Also good luck getting Sigma or Folklore for $15 lol

Here are some prices I checked on today...

:360:
America's Army True Soldier $35
Hour of Victory $25 (I don't think the price has dropped so should hold through next week)
Ratatouille $15
Sega Rally Revo $32
Winning Eleven 2007 $6

:ps3:
NHL 2K8 $23

Also they had Beautiful Katamari :360: down to $29.99 used to buy, so I picked that up along with a $34.99 Bioshock (took a slip cover from Game Stop when I picked up that Hori fighting stick heehee).
Juiced 2, bee movie, jerico, nhl 2k8, Blue Dragon, Avatar, Folklore, might be more, but that is all that is near my local Targets. OP, KS.
Damn the Targets north of the river in KC MO don't have CRAP!

Some of those aren't great flips...

:360:
Juiced 2 $15 - $22(or 23)
Blue Dragon $15 - $22(or 23)

:ps3:
Jericho $12.50? to ? (I saw this for $25 at a Target, not 12.50 yet)

Not sure which version of NHL 2K8 is on clearance at Target but it nets $23.

When you shop for clearance games at Target use the price scanners at the end caps in main isles.

With the coupon, they are decent to very good flips. jerico (12.48) for ps3 gets 26 and nhl 2k8 for ps3 gets 23. although I have only found 1 jerico for that price.
Here's some prices for Target games:

Tony Hawk Proving Ground Wii - $23
Juiced 2 360 - $22
Blue Dragon - $22
Folklore - $36
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - $33
Jericho PS3 - $26

If they arent 75% off at your target, there is a very good chance they will be on Monday morning, meaning that at least for one day you can GO GO GO GO GO

Dave
Yeah, that was post 1115, with all the good target flips. Pay attention plz.

Dave

Anyone have DPCI's for these games?
Damn the Targets north of the river in KC MO don't have CRAP!
I did a run here in IN yesterday, Everywhere is out of clearance items, people are going crazy with their tax checks. A local pawnshop that i go to to buy games was totaly empty, they had like 2 TV's and 30 games and some power tools, they usualy ave so much stuff they cant keep it inthier 5,000 ft showroom!! My Target only had crappy clearance games, except for folklore and it was marked $41 and they were refusing to scan it(Probably waiting untill he got off work to scan it for himself....)
