ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

You people are getting a little too close for comfort to my neck of the woods...;)

Gentlemen, start your engines - 25% off of used PS3 games at GameStop. I figure this shouldn't take long to restock BB's selection for them.

Coupon just dropped for this week, 25% of used PS3.
Made a quick list of some decent flips, Gamestop price is used price from website minus 25% coupon, 10% edge, and adding back in 7% sales tax(i'm in NJ)
Second price is TIV.

Genji 13.89/26
NBA 07 9.03/20
F1 17.38/26
MLB 07 13.89/ 20

Limit 2 games per coupon. Looks like several trips will be made.
Was hoping for something to pick up with Overlord.
They came though, woohoo.
Seriously? GS is not giving you a hard time about trading in 3 copies of SSBB at the same time?
No funny thing is the GS manager suggested I do it that way. It's a simple case of social engineering, smile, be freindly, chat, and the doors come tumbling down.

PATRWRIK, you're spot on with you're assessment, the Target on Bellflower is the farthest East I ever go (somewhat rarely, Seal Beach is the norm), Cerritos to the North, Harbor to the West and Beach/405 to the South. Somedays I can hit 4/5 targets on my way home. The last two weeks have been insane. You must be waiting for the LB store to go 85% off on the Crackdown's :)

Does someone have a link to the trade 3 get extra 20% promotion that gamestop is supposedly currently running?

Edit: n/m, then I would have to reserve something at Gstop...

dangit im stuck with 3 ssbb as all the gamestops by me limit it to 1 per title now. didn't have a problem before when i did the halo transfer.

im probably gonna have to do each individually and put down a preorder on mario kart or gtaiv that will eventually get canceled.

im most likely going to put each towards a preorder that will eventually get canceled. hopefully i still get the 20% bump that way.

No link. It was mentioned in their e-mail newsletter from Tuesday. Through April 27th, if you trade in 3 or more Wii, 360 or PS3 games you get an extra 20%.

There are also a couple `Power Trades' for an extra 20% going on too. I know that GTA 4 is one, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was one. I've heard rumors that they'll have one for MGS 4 sometime soon. I really wish that these showed up on Gamestop's `trade-in values' page online like they used to, it was much easier to know what the hell was going on and how long it lasted.

My local GS has a sign up that includes Mario Kart Wii, GTA4, and MGS4 as part of the 20% Power Trade program. It's kinda hard to see MGS4 on the poster, considering it's black cover art on a black background, but it is there. I'm definitely going to throw a Brawl from Blockbuster in their direction for my copy of MGS4.

A couple of updates from today
folklore ps3 33
darkness ps3 23
jericho ps3 26

Helllllloooooo Mario kart wii :), also they had a picture of the preorder gift for gta4 the picture doesnt look too bad.
Read the fine print:

Overall, 2007 was a year of major losses. For the full fiscal year, Blockbuster reported a net loss of $85.1 million, or 45 cents a share, compared with net income of $39.2 million, or 21 cents, a year earlier. Revenue increased 0.3 percent to $5.54 billion.

They're shoveling off the failed game program, liquidating old used inventory, and betting the farm on 'exclusive' rental deals with indy films. All the while losing business to online rental companies that they have decided not to compete with. A promise for future profitability does not a future make.
Not to complete derail the thread, but...

Blockbuster poured millions into gaining a subscriber base in their online program. They have since stopped pouring money in. Their breakeven point is 2 million subscribers. Currently they sit at 2.8 million subscriber base, thus netting them profit for the current quarter. They are no longer "shoveling off" GameRush (although the chance of them opening new ones is slim to none in the next 1-2 years). They have always liquidated old used inventory (as does every company). And yes, you are right about betting the farm on exclusive rental deals. However, you have the wrong impression of the exclusive deals. They are not there to increase revenue (not directly anyways). The exclusive deals are an attempt at the proverbial nail in the coffin for Hollywood Video. By preventing Hollywood from obtaining direct rental copies of many big titles (TMNT, 1408, The Mist are just 3 I can immediately think of), Hollywood is forced to do one of 2 things- (1) throw their hands up in frustration when they are asked if they have one of those movies in stock or (2) go buy a handful of copies from the local Wal-Mart at a higher price than they would pay the distributor, put those 10 copies of the movie on the shelf, and then deal with all of the complaining customers who always bitch about how they never have enough of anything in stock. Either way, it forces customers to either (a) deal with the fact that they can't watch it or (b) go to Blockbuster. I have seen this first hand over and over again.

Blockbuster is also recording record profits in several test markets across the US, showing that a nationwide implementation of any of (or several combinations of) those plans would have a complete reversal of last years numbers. Just the 2 cents of an informed person who reads more than just one article.

All this talk about using SSBB as a conduit to move credit to GS made my eyes gloss over earlier. Wish I'd have paid more attention. My local BB has one used copy, so i could actually transfer over like $48.60 BB/GR (44.99 + local tax) into $45.50 GS credit to put toward my MGS4 pre-order I just made to get the dvd + online beta code. Maybe I'll do that later or this weekend. I doubt very many of you have any used copies, but it just occurred to me that the "exchange rate" is much better with a used copy. I had written off the idea originally because of that and because trading in 3 copies of the same game would never fly at my local GS.

Anyway, I just came from my local BB/GR and they had 4 standalone Rock Band guitars for PS3 at the standard $59.99. I didn't see any for 360 but didn't look around too much. Tempting, but it was hard enough to convince wifey to let me buy the bundle..... doubt she'd be thrilled having yet another plastic guitar sittin' around the house. =)

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention why I was at my store to begin with. I picked up Genji and NBA 07 used at GS for $12.99 and $8.44 respectively with 25% off coupon and Edge. Genji trades to BB for $26 and NBA 07 trades for $20. So, I turned a $25 Gamestop gift card and about $3.50 into a $5 MGS4 pre-order at GS and $46 credit at BB. Not too shabby. Also, still no dualshock 3's at BB.

Edit (just for kicks): I just punched my Gamestop receipt info into Quicken and it asked me "would you like to make this a recurring transaction?" Guess I need to cut back on buying games. =)

Anyone know what Final Fantasy Tactics: WAr of the Lions for the psp gets in store credit, need to get some more credit to pay off GTA4, hate being unemployed.

DAMMIT, while I've always appreciated having Blockbuster around I'd much prefer them to go under rather than Hollywood just because of the fact that Gamecrazy is a much better store (and more widely distributed) than Gamerush. If Blockbuster ends up making my Gamecrazy credit worthless (not to mention the dozens of free rentals I have at Hollywood from buying systems at Gamecrazy) that would be some serious suckage...

TIV's from today:
MLB 07 The Show $20 (PS3)
Guitar Hero 3 $32 (Game only, 360)
Elebits(Wii) $9
Manhunt 2 Wii $23

Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 PS2 $12
Blue Dragon 360 $19

Does anyone know the trade in value of the following:

THIS I like to read.

And to comment about a couple of IO's posts about BB/GR being convenient.
I didn't notice it until you brought it up, but BB is actually the closest game store to my campus (I'm at Michigan State). Which might explain the surprising (to me at least) number of pre-orders for BRAWL. I'm sure it's a nice convenient place for everyone without a car on campus to pick up new purchases since they can just take the bus/walk rather than having to make the longer bus trip to the mall. If BB/GR cornered a little bit more of this market, I'm sure they could do well.

Untold Legends was $16 on Monday, so it's likely that or a bit less.

Blockbuster(asbury, nj) had a big board of their trade in values versus Gamestop.
Army of Two stuck out, 36/35 vs $24.
CAll of Duty 4 was 36
They are really pusing the games.

Today was able to flip $96 into $175. Another 90 and i'll be scouring for a Wii to get the trifecta of consoles.

picked up 10 NBA 07's and 9 Genji's

flipped them all within about 2 hours....getting a couple gift cards with Hannah Montana on them (haha) for a total of $464.38 including tax.....only spent about $215.40 after tax

Not bad....now im up to around $800 in credit...i think i might get a ps3 and a wii but idk?

Thanks CAGers....
New to this site (started a couple of months ago) and I already have 1500 in store credit. Just bought my ps 3. I was so temeped to wait till June for the 80 gb metal gear bundle, but I got the 60 GB one for 450 plus tax. Still have over a 1000 left and will probably get 500 more with the new 25% off ps3 games at GS. I thinking of getting a new 40 inch that my Blockbusters sells, I really hope that t.v. goes on sale its currently 1600 (lot of money for a 40 inch). Anyway thanks for all the help.

Yes...., well some do. Mine has a sony 40 inch lcd. Model is KDL-40V3000 . Looks great. Best buy has the same t.v. for 1600 on sale. MSRP of t.v. at bestBuy is 1900. There in stock but want to get some more credit before buying.

I think I may have been flagged/banned on my "less active" trading account. (Note: I have 2 blockbuster cards)

Today, on a whim, I decided to trade using "account 2", my less active account. I was told I was restricted from trading because one of the games I traded in did not work. Now correct me if I am wrong, but trading/selling stuff, especially to a retail store has obligations. They have no right to track me down and tell me it doesn't work.

I then asked, what game was it? She quickly answered, it wasn't even at this store, you will have to notify the manager, she will be in at 6pm. Now this is news to me, if the game doesn't work I have NO obligations. They took it, its their responsibility now. How do I know if they didn't #$%^ it up or a customer? It seems to me, they want me to be put on the spot with a manager.

I will NOT try this account until I go to a store I do not frequent. Quite frankly, most if not all the games I trade in are in mind condition, maybe with the exception of 1 or 2. Buit how can they track that crap.

Anyways, anyone have anything like this happen to them? I only flip 1-2 copies max per store, only 2 copies if it is a decent multi-player game, ex MUA. That way there is much less suspicion. I will have to try my other account tomorrow or Sunday.

This occurred at Pasadena, CA Blockbuster.
Picked up 2 copies of genji and nba 07, currently have about 550 in trade credit after 1 flip!
So it is PS3 NBA 07, not NBA 2k7, right? Since i didn't see NBA 07 online, only see NBA 2k7 for $12.99

Sounds a bit suspicious to me. They would have had to sell the game to someone, that someone come back and claim it didn't work, and the manager(s) cared enough to flip back through weeks/months of trade paperwork to find when/who traded it in, and then flag the account and call other stores. Honestly... my guess is some manager is out to get you.

You want :ps3: NBA 07. I picked up some :ps3: NBA 2K7 since GS had tons. Only worth $13.00 at GR :wall: but I was too lazy to return them. That messed up my ratio. Spent $139.71 at GS ($90 of which was credit) and got back $258.14 at GR.

At one GR they were closing out all new :xbox:, :ps2:, and :gc: games for 50% off. Mostly old sports games. But I did pick up a few things that seemed cheap enough to throw on Goozex/SaySwap.

Does anyone have a method to for turning Blockbuster credit into cash? I've got $60 in credit that I'd love to somehow cash in, to use at Target or Gamestop.

True, but TVs take up alot more space than movie posters, ipod accessories, or defensive driving videos.

BB/GRs are already crowded as it is.

Buy a new release game, sell it on craigslist for a few bucks off. Or, sell your value card to someone for a few bucks less than what's on it.

DS lites & Wii's are the best things to use to transfer credit to cash. I've sold white DS lites for up to $180 on ebay, not even during the holidays. Wii's should go for retail if not more on ebay or craigslist.

I just wish my Blockbuster would start carrying the Amazon gift cards like some of the other locations. I'm tempted to flip a bunch of Genji's and NBA 07's, but i've still got about $300 left that i've been mainly using on food (Ghirardelli's Espresso Escape chocolate bars are insanely addictive) and renewing my gamepass. There havent been too many games that have warranted a buy for me when i can rent them for a month and a half for $9.25 or less.

Wow, my BB moved all the games to one row in the far back and all the used games are gone. Theres like, 30 crappy titles on a table by the register with nothing marked on them, but their all REALLY expensive. Anyone else's BBs clearing out?

My BB actually gets a lot of its business from game rentals. They rarely have games on the shelves because they are always rented out. Especially hits like CoD4 and Vegas 2 where they have around 20 copies each.

Theyre selling the bundle for $12.99, not the game only. So they probably wont let you match. Gamestop used to sell new games cheaper than the used ones, but if they only had used ones in stock ,they wouldnt let you have the new price.

I just got back from Gamestop & Blockbuster. I picked up Rock Band Game Only (PS3) for $20.85 and NBA 07 (PS3) for $9.03 after tax using the coupon (i also had $21.40 in credit, so all in all, Rock Band was free). Traded NBA 07 (Still worth $20) and bought a Wireless PS3 guitar from Blockbuster so I have something to use on my $20 copy of Rock Band. $80 for the drums still seems like way too much for me (plus it would've meant that I spent $160 anyways, so i should've just bought the whole set for $170).

My location had another 4 NBA 07's sitting there, and every location near me seems to have multiple copies. I'll probably soak up some more credit later on this week. I gotta say I really like how Blu-Ray discs are harder to scratch. Makes buying used from gamestop a lot less worried.
