ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Doh! Forgot to check for Folklore on my run Friday with coupons. Thanks for reminder. will be doing another run on Dump Day tomorrow. Just have to coordinate the gamestops with blockbusters, factoring in time to peel off all the stickers off the used gamestop games.
 
Doh, looks like the only blockbuster I can trade in is now checking my trade history everytime I go in. I traded in genjo and nba07 a few days ago and boom got denied for trading in additional copies. FCKING A!!!!!!

Depends where you get it. Target has them for 15(dont forget to buy 2 of them and use the target 5 dollars off coupon). GS has them for 16.24 (after edge and 25% off coupon). I believe it gets 26 TIV. Will know for sure tomorrow. I have about 4 of them

Send me a PM. I work at the (or one of the) BB you traded in to earlier today. I'm pretty sure you purposely avoided me since you knew I was the manager (grey shirt, blonde spiked hair). Trust me... no need to worry. I'll let you know when I'm working so you don't have to try and dodge bullets or anything. I'll do what I can to help you out. Like I said, just shoot me a PM.

Dont goto the GameRush/BB near Perris and Alessandro, they only allow 1 copy of each game.

Yes, $26 - just did one a couple of hours ago.

You people with your 10 NBA 07s and 10 Genjis amaze me. It was enough effort and risk to get 1 of each of those and an F1 from Target traded in today. Not too bad as I turned $21.43 of Gamestop credit and about $12.48 cash (if I consider the 5 coupon on my $60 Target purchase applied about half to F1 and half to the actual toys I bought) into $72 at Blockbuster. The Gamestop I went to had a perfect 4 copies of each game - but I feel akward enough buying games for a system I don't even have. I'd feel really akward getting more than 1 copy of each. I may go back there tomorrow or the next day and buy another set though I hope someone else is working. Yeah, of course, there's nothing wrong with it - just feels wierd to me. Of course I would take those 2 to a completely different Blockbuster, or maybe even a Gamecrazy to PM. I'm not ever trading the same game to a single Blockbuster again - even multiple platform versions like with Beowulf (as that seems to make them even more suspicious).

edavis - you were wondering how whymustiregister could turn $440 into $1073 in BB credit? If one were to buy 20 pairs (consisting of NBA 07 and Genji) at GS it would cost $428.60. That could theoretically be converted into $920 at BB. Yeah, OK, it's not quite there - I don't see how he did it either as my case doesn't include sales tax either (though some people get that back on the trade-ins which would actually increase the profit).

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this question, but I will ask anyway.

I have a Blockbuster (non-Gamerush) that is very, very, very close to where I live. The Gamerush Blockbuster is a bit farther from me. Both are doing GTA4 pre-orders. Is there any benefit with doing the pre-order at the Gamerush location rather than the regular location?

Ordering at gamerush might help keep them from closing down, but beyond that, no, there's no extra bonus.
 
I would preorder from the location that you do most of your trading in. The number of preorders really reflect well upon the store so it would make sense to me to help out the location that is helping you with the trades.
 
Someone may have already confirmed, but all the stores in my area, including the one i work at, are doing the free framed art for GTAIV.

Keep in mind, the framed art is a picture of the main character with some city behind him, and it says Grand Theft Auto IV on it. Not sure if there is just the one kind of framed art.
 
got 3 copies of Genji today and 3 copies of NBA 07'. had to do alil searching for them tho. i really appreciate that store locater on the GS/EB websites.
i traded in two Genji & two NBA 07s tonight for a credit total of $99.72. the other two i couldnt trade in yet cuz they dont have the cover art. so i have to print out the covers for them like i did for MUA/Forza2 months ago.

is the used price of Folklore again, and how much does it get @ BB? sorry i 4got.

Thanks for the heads up but I only trade one copy at any time.
It takes longer to unload the flippable games but it does not appear too shady to the CSR.
Maybe that is why I have lasted awhile without being banned or do not have any notes on my trade account....knocking on wood.

Anyone else getting tired of Halo3Champ's whining?

I mean, cmon, I dont see why you continue to trade in when you have 500+ in credit and dont have anything to spend it on...

Just tying up money that could be used elsewhere....

what location do you work at? All i know is that SD BB employees are amazed and dumbfounded when I come in to do a trade. They always say I should go to GS to trade cuz they give so little in credit. Little do they know....

In addition, SD isn't a good place to be collecting credit cuz the BB's only seem to carry limited amounts of anything good. No systems either?

Yeah mine is doing that, 5x9 print, pretty cool looking and better than what gamestop is giving away (nothing)
 
Man, I think I must be spoiled from the past deals, because trading genji for $14 -->$26 doesn't seem like it is worth the effort for not even doubling your investment.

Here is one you guys might like.

Called Gamerush to check TIV of eye of judgement for PS3. $36 TIV. I asked if you needed to include the camera and they said no you can't trade in the camera with the game you have to trade the camera seperately.

Local GS had a copy of eye of judgement for PS3 with the camera and everything for 29.99. With 25% off coupon and 10% off edge plus my local tax added back in it was 21.12 out the door. Picked up an NBA 07 also for 9 and change. Not my kind of game so went to GR to trade and sure enough $36 for EOJ and $20 for NBA07. I even brought the camera in to make sure they didn't want it traded in with EOJ...nope but you can trade it in for $13. No thanks.....

So turned 30 bucks and change at GS into $56 GR credit and a PS3 camera !!
 
Guys, please take the discussion of who works at a specific GR store and whether you know them to PM - no one else cares... (posts have been deleted so if you don't know what I'm talking about don't worry about it ;)).

soonerdoc - I agree the profit isn't all that great if you are spending cash at Gamestop. But if you are using GS credit that in turn came from a double (or more) trade-in (or even better - from transferring games from Blockbuster), then it is an easy choice ;).

Entirely dependent on the current worker/manager in charge at the time. There is no corporate-wide policy on it as far as I know. I haven't tried recently but some people have had luck and some haven't. Some people print covers and that works fine and others have been warned not to do that. You'll just have to ask at your store...
 
You guys are spoiled with the NBA 07 trade-ins, is there anyone else whose store doesn't allow them to trade in an 07 or earlier game?

i bought eye of judgment from amazon when it was $44. really only wanted the eye and i only played the game for a day and don't see myself playing it anymore or buying more cards for it. think its time to get rid of it.

my bb probably wouldn't even know what to do with all the extra stuff if i tried to trade the game in with everything. wondering if i should just try to trade the game in alone so they aren't confused with all the extra stuff and turn me away because of it.

Yes I did get sales tax back on the trades at BB/GR. And I fucked up my total, I actually got $839.66 back, was looking at the wrong line. Seems more reasonable now right? :whistle2:#

Whaaa? That seems pretty out there (summary: Blockbuster makes an offer to buy Circuit City). But maybe the 2 troubled companies together could do something (or go down even faster ;)). It would be very interesting and would have all kinds of implications for our twin hobbies (ie, gaming and flipping).
 
That would be great for future Monster Madnesses. You could buy them at Circuit City and then trade them in at their mini Blockbuster store inside the CC. Or even better, if i can use my BB credit at CC.

and to all the CAGers in Central Indiana.....thanks for taking all the NBA 07s lol...all the stores had a bunch of copies saturday....called today and they have NONE! lol...damn u guys



but im gonna look for EoJ on my lunch break and try that one out to flip

Quick question about store credit: Can I only use it at the same store, or can I go to a different Blockbuster and use the credit there? Thanks!

Store credit can only be used in the store where you have the credit. However you can have your credit put on a Value card and that can be used at any Blockbuster.
 
Ugh, that means I'll have to try and move some of my credit to GameStop if I want to get MGSIV soon enough. Either that or hope the guy I trade to agrees to put it on a gift card (it's an option, but supposedly they're not supposed to do that...). If so, SSBB is my only option. Thanks.
