ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

WooHoo...just flipped 3 games....$55 into $102 (I do not have an EDGE card....oh well....I rarely buy USED games at EB/GS anyways). Thanks for the tips.

My flips were Fatal Inertia, Ass Creed (360), Stranglehold (PS3).
Well, the GS coupon this week is 25% extra on DS/PSP trade-ins.... so what can we combine with Prof. Layton (haven't called GS to verify, but their website shows Layton gets $20) to move credit over to GS?.......

Probably not many options... my stores don't have that many used DS and PSP titles. There's probably going to be at least a small loss, whatever we come up with. But if you use the GS credit gained to just buy more stuff with B2G1 and move it back to Blockbuster at profit, it might be worth it.
Yup, it's just about impossible to actually transfer credit back without a loss, I though Mario Karts would be my gravy train, but that train left the station before I even had chance to transfer a single game. Damn you GS for not allowing me to flip my credit indefinetly.

Yeah.... with the 25% coupon + Edge, Layton should be $27 but can be bought at BB/GR new for $30 + tax. So yeah, about a $5 loss (unless you find a used Layton at BB/GR). But then there's also the matter of finding 2 more DS/PSP games to trade with it.
With layton, some gamestops may even take multiple copies because they sell quite well used.
True..... but definitely YMMV and with Blockbuster's crappy return policies, I'd hate to get stuck with them or stuck trying to find a GS store/employee that'll take 2-3.

Having said that, somebody at my local GS let me trade in 2 copies of Sneak King a couple of weeks ago (just did it with another game to get the extra 20%).

TIV

StrangleHold PS3 $36
Assasins Creed PS3 $30
FolkLore PS3 $30

paid $50 at Gamestop, and got me $101 at Blockbuster, did I forget to say I LOVE THIS THREAD

Past two days traded
4 Stranglehold
4 Assassin's Creed
2 No More Heroes
1 Rockband

Still have one more Gamestop then Blockbuster to hit tonight.
They'll be getting 1 of each too.
Already gotten 2 Wii's this week, not including the one hidden for Mother's day.
Will still have $134 in credit left after tonight.
Whew. Busy week.

No luck finding a Fatal Inertia or Sega Rally.

Man Im thinking bout hitting my gamestop again, they have 15 copies of ASSASINS creed for PS3

How many copies can you trade per game at a time? and do they keep track of your pass trades?

As long as the store isnt a franchise location, it does trade ins. Good luck on finding a person that knows how to do them.

What a day what a day. After stopping off at a whole bunch of Gamestops and Blockbusters. I turned $750 cash into $1,400 credit. I bought myself a Wii, Crossbow, Component Cables, and Mario Kart and I've still got a little over a grand left.

Amazing thing is i barely scraped the stock that most of the stores had. Between the 9 stores i went to, I left about 300 copies of Assassins Creed, 30 Copies of Stranglehold, 10 copies of Eye Of Judgment, and 5 copies of History Channel. I would have bought more but I am insanely tired and i think a grand will last me quite a while. You should have seen the face of the guy when i maxed out both my value card and half of my gift card in one transaction.
You should have seen the face of the guy when i maxed out both my value card and half of my gift card in one transaction.
Did you trade at any Pinellas GameRush or Blockbuster stores? I like to avoid spamming them with the same games as other people, or at least on the same day. They sometimes start asking questions if they get multiple people trading the same set of games in rapid succession. ;)
Nope, I stayed completely in Hillsborough County. I hit up pretty much all the stores between Hillsborough avenue and Gunn.
Alright, thanks. Hopefully there aren't too many CAGs trading over here this week.
Why is Sega Rally Revo (PS3) has no locater on Gamestop.com or do they?
I just searched for Sega Rally "evo" by accident and still yielded 5 accurate results.

TIV:

:wii:
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption $19 (well, not confirmed but I bought one today for $29.99 used so it must be down to $19, or will be on Tuesday)
Soul Calibur Legends $23
Why is Sega Rally Revo (PS3) has no locater on Gamestop.com or do they?
Neither Eye of Judgment, nor SRR have used store locators. But that most definitely does not mean they do not have it in stock. The Sku for EoJ used is 930100. The sku for SSR used is 930072. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned, but the 360 Stranglehold CE gets $35 as well as both PS3 versions.

Correction, both PS3 versions get $36 :p

It's a tree-frog, keep going.
Excellent, now how about the used version?
Like i said above, there is no store locator for the used version. Check my post for the SKU to ask for when you call.
??
It's a "Lost" joke. Last night, the lead mercenary heard the baby crying and starts looking around, but all he hears is the rest of the jungle. Then Ragekod blurts out "It's a tree-frog, keep going."

Epic hilarity ensued.

went to a blockbuster i never been to today and was going to start trading in today. stated my acct is on hold. i guess Blockbuster blocked my entire acct, even if i start new else where. usually if i couldnt trade @ 1, id just go to another. crappo.

When god gives you lemons you find a new god.

It was just a dumb sarcastic comment.
you watch it JJSP, I have my eyes on you with the nascar purchases.
In my defense, my roommate is playing one of them. ;)

Awesome. Time to go flipping tomorrow. I need to pick up GTA IV anyway. Now I have to decide if I want to stick with the PS3 version or buy the Xbox 360 version. Either way, I win. My BB was still giving the GTA frames with purchases. Anything free is better than nothing. Does anyone know how long the GS sale goes until? I thought I saw Sunday or so...
What the TIV for No more Heroes Wii at Blockbuster

Its on sale at CC for $20
use the search this thread on top of the page to find it.
use the search this thread on top of the page to find it.
Bad thing about this thread is that each page is like a clean slate. There's always a few people who are too lazy to look a few pages back, or god forbid, pick up the phone and call for themselves.

So when are we going to do lucky Gamerush thread 13? This thread has gotten over 5x as big as the last few.

Bezerker, I'm sure this is a stupid question but how do I know if the store (only blockbusters in my area NJ/PA) is a "franchise" location?
Bezerker, I'm sure this is a stupid question but how do I know if the store (only blockbusters in my area NJ/PA) is a "franchise" location?
don't know where you are in that area but I know for sure that the Deptford BB took in trades the last time I was there visiting my cousins house.

Edit: probably didn't answer your question though...sorry.
Excellent, now how about the used version?

Edit: I don't know if anyone else has already mentioned this, but I checked the price of Beautiful Katamari at GR, and it's still $40 new. Hopefully it'll drop after this weekend.
I could have sworn I put the used prices up, that's odd.

I would put up the link but I'm posting from an iPod touch and I can't copy and paste the link but search for "sega rally evo".

Lost next week at your house kunai?

Traded in:

Rockband (PS3) = 36
Assasins Creed (360) = 32
Eye of Judgement (PS3) = 36
Stranglehold RE (PS3) = 36
No More Heroes (Wii) = 30

Total Trade Value was 170.06

Forgot to bring BFTP = 28.50 = 198.50

So total spent at Gamestop tonight was 52.59+58.43 = 111.02

Here is where everyone should pay attention though, I had bought 3 games from another gamestop to trade at BB, Stranglehold CE, Assassins Creed, and BFTP. I really wanted stranglehold regular edition instead so I set out for another gamestop. I found it their as well as no more heroes and the eye as well. So I bought all of them and returned the other three games. I had taken the stickers off the boxes so they scanned the regular barcodes. I decided to put it on a giftcard for faster purchasing. He handed me the receipt and it showed value of giftcard 97.41 and the receipt showed each game seperate at 29.99. I ended up getting 2 free nunchuks out of this as well. NOT A BAD DAY AT ALL

Sega Superstars Tennis isn't very good. I prefer Wii Sports Tennis, so I'll get the $30 trade in credit. I also picked up MGS Portable Ops and Puzzle Quest on the PSP to go with it, and I look forward to playing those.

I'm stopping by another GS tomorrow to pick up (2-3) Assasin's Creed-360, (2-3) Stranglehold-PS3, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition to keep, another game with good trade in value, and Gears of War to keep if they can somehow combine the used deal of the week with the B2G1 free. Otherwise, I'll just try to get another Stranglehold.

This will probably be my last time flipping, so I want to have enough credit for Gears of War 2, Fable 2, and Rock Band 2. 3 of Stranglehold and 3 of Assasin's Creed to go across 3 different stores will cover that. Flipping is fun, but at some point I need to realize that I have plenty of games that I need to be playing already.
I'm not sure if it was mentioned, but the 360 Stranglehold CE gets $35 as well as both PS3 versions.
wow the regular edition 360 stranglehold only gets 19 (if that even held). im surprised the CE is still getting $35. i might have to go hunt for those as there are no ps3 versions around me.

How many copies of the same game can you trade at once?
Can you trade Stranglehold one day, and come back the next day at the same location and trade another Stranglehold? or is it tracked on the trading account?

the trade agreement says 2 copies per store, but its really up to the store. some around here only allow 1 while others allow 2.
I would put up the link but I'm posting from an iPod touch and I can't copy and paste the link
What can you do with an iPod Touch?

Felt sick while getting the last batch of games to flip today at Gamestop.
A couple guys were there trading in a PS3 60GB system and some games.
Trade in value was $220 for the system, but he wanted cash so he got less. The employees there even told him he'd do better on Ebay with it. I think it may have been stolen/found. It was in a carrying bag, the guy didn't know the memory cards were in it still. He asked if they would take the bag, (no), and when he took it back his friend 'found' a couple more games in it and they went right on the counter to trade in.
Couple games i saw, Assassin's creed(TIV of $10), Call of Duty 4($27).

Thinking about it, this had to be stolen.
I know this has nothing to do with blockbuster/gamerush, but it happened on a flipping run, so i wanted to share.

Damn...you should have offered him $10 more than GR

Hit up a few more Targets tonight...

:360: Stranglehold $7.5x -> $19
:ps3: Orange Box $14.98 -> $36

I bought two copies of Stranglehold and six copies of Orange Box.:whistle2:#
When god gives you lemons you find a new god.
here's the kicker. so i hit my friend up and asked him if he create a blockbuster acct so i could trade these games in. and for his troubles id just get him GTAIV for 360. so we go to blockbuster he creates acct. trades in games. and the manager there is the one that i 1st traded to months ago. so we walk out, and im like let me just go back and ask him why my acct is on hold. he is like my acct is fine. and he lets me trade. either it was on hold, or he was cool and didnt care. so here are the trades...

X360-Assassins Creed- $32
X360-History Channel Pacific-$28.50
Ps3-Eye of Judgment-$36
Ps3-Assassin Creed- $30
Ps3-Stranglehold $36
Wii-No More Heroes-$30

then i traded in everything minus No More Heroes & Stranglehold
