ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
No truer words were spoken. If you abuse it then it will bite you in the ass. Moderation and patience are key to trading in at BB/GR (unless of course you are Kunai). He is a special special case indeed.
Agreed. I don't understand why people take it overboard. It seems like half the stories here are "I traded in 10 copies of said game and am now banned" or "I have $100000 in BB credit"

Sure, everyone wants to take advantage of a hot flip, but I don't see the need to carry around so much credit when another flip is sure to come along. Go out and spend the damn $. The whole point is to pay less for games so you can play them!

I was told once that I was not able to purchase a PSP with credit but only with cash or credit.
So it does happen.

Which happens first?
1) Hell freezes over
2) djkunai gets banned from BB/GR trading
3) L.A. Clippers/L.A. Kings/Detroit Lions/Seattle Mariners winning the championship in their respective sport in the same year.

2) djkunai gets banned from BB/GR trading

Already happened, doesn't mean the end of the world.

My stores have tons of Naruto 360's. $5 -> 22 is a great flip.

Has anyone seen the Metal Gear Essential collection for sale at Blockbuster? I'm about to beat MGS: Twin Snakes (first time i've played a MGS game), and needless to say I want to beat 2 & 3 before 4 comes out next month. I know its probably cheaper to just buy the games seperately used, but I figure i'd have a better chance at finding the collection since it came out recently.
So I went a bit overboard trying to trade in AC during the b2g1 sale last week and got myself banned.

I was thinking to get my brother to open an account and use that to trade a much lower volume of games.

Any advice to somehow get flipping again?
Make sure this photo isn't attached to your membership.
They ban you from future trading right? They can't take away you're credit can they?
They can freeze your assets & bank accounts....oh wait.....thats IRS....not BB
Another one bites the dust.

The key to continual success is moderation...young grasshopper.
Well, count me in the ranks of the unbitten dust as I was able to trade today at my local store with no problem. The "hold" has apparently come off :whee:.

I traded an NCAA March Madness 08 in celebration.
Welcome to the gamerush black hole...

There was one in Wilsonville up until a year ago or so...then a few of us put them out of business;) (actually you can blame piss poor management for that)

Blockbuster seems to be getting better and better with the new releases, pre-orders and systems/accessories. I think Southern Cali is the closest one.

Naruto held at $22.... $5 into $22 nice
We most certainly did not put that store out of business ;). In fact, I did my best to keep them afloat by doing much of my trading elsewhere (including on the East Coast) and spending all my credit there. They spent too much on a lease for an area they thought would grow and when it didn't they were left with fewer than expected customers. Basically, that other thing you said ;).

I believe the closest GR is in Fresno (or maybe Sacramento) - about 500-600 miles in any case. It is very nice that the regular stores are carrying systems again.

I didn't know Naruto was $22. I was able to price adjust mine from $15 to $5 but I was planning on keeping it. But then again, I just gave the kids a MUA from Target to play so they don't need Naruto... Today I was finally done with my work project and spent a good portion of the day driving around doing some buying/trading. I turned about $40 at Target into $114 at Blockbuster, with another $25 -> $60 pending (2 more March Madness that I may take to Virginia with me next week and hope the price holds). I was really tempted to keep a PGR4 and College Hoops 2K8 but I figure I'll be able to find those again cheap soon enough. For me, this was a HUGE day of trading. I know kunai does that at one stop with multiples of just one game - but, hopefully to avoid any future trouble, I traded at 3 different Blockbusters (no duplicates at any one store) in a 70 mile loop (also hitting up 4 Targets - total gas cost about $7). And despite that, I still got asked at the first store "where do you get all these games from?". Note that I hadn't traded there in 2 weeks (I skipped the whole GS B2G1 flipping opportunity) and have never traded any duplicates there (and only 4 games total in all of April). Man, people here are just too nosy.

Switching topics: when I was at my local store I actually requested to keep the trade on my account because I will use it to pay off my Wii Fit. I was told that I was the only preorder they have because they got a memo to stop taking preorders for it until further notice. They must be worried about their allocation from Nintendo. She assured me I would still get mine. We shall see...

Trade values:
PS3 NBA 07 - $9
360 NHL 2K8 - $15 (these are much more prevalent than PGR4 at Targets near me)
360 College Hoops 2K8 - $15
360 PGR4 - $15
360 Virtua Tennis 3 - $6 (boo!)

I'd also suggest looking for one of these off ebay for anyone trying to trade in games. This one just ended and didn't sell for $2.99
Go in wearing your official Blockbuster employee polo on Dump Day. Tell them you are not allowed to trade in at the store you work at.
Top it off with an Indiana Jones Fedora, currently available at Blockbuster and you'll slide right under the radar.

Where do we get this cheap Naruto that you speak of? Target?

I got the weird look when I asked GCrazy if they would price match GRush, also got the value in case anyone wanted to know too.

GameCrazy (05.09.08):

PGR4 - $10
NHL 2K8 - $10

I guess I'm picking up Naruto next week and hope GCrazy does it for $15.
Where do we get this cheap Naruto that you speak of? Target?
Yea, the only thing is that you'll have to use a coupon that was fraudulently made, or hope that when you print out the original, they dont notice the "no copies" text.

On a weird note, Blockbuster now sells Star Wars bobbleheads. My store had Darth Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett, Greedo, and the Stormtrooper. I picked up a Boba Fett cuz Boba Fett's the shit. No luck on findng the Metal Gear Essential Collection (or any MG games) though.

I used "no copies" ones with no problem. Funny thing is at one store the girl said "Oh, nice, someone with a color printer. When people use black & white it is really hard to tell if they are copies or not." Then she happily scanned it. I was, like, WTF? I still can't figure that one out .

We seriously need some hastings/walmart flips.

Speaking of hastings, why isn't there an official thread for them? The can have some pretty kickass TIV's. (I traded in a Proving Ground for 22 credit like a week and a half ago.

Yeah the BB that I go to started selling those bobble heads too, I also noticed that their TiV board had sega superstar tennis up there, so maybe the TiV won't go down for some time.

Apparently it has more support than the N-gage.

LOL... reminds me of when I was using a self-printed coupon at WalMart, and the cashier said they only take "original" coupons. I told her it's from an email, so the only option is to print it yourself. Not good enough, she would only accept an "original" printed email coupon. I guess they must sell some kind of "certified original" printers or something :)

Also, was at my local BB/GR yesterday, and they are giving away the GTA IV framed pictures. Have a huge stack. Apparently it wasn't such a popular promo. I took 2 so I can have Niko Bellic staring at me at my home offce and at work when he's not staring at me from my TV.

Well, I was finally able to get a hold of a used copy of R&C F:ToD for PS3 and I decided to get a Blu-Ray copy of Superbad. Sad thing is this is the only game that I own on PS3 so I really hope they come out something good sooner than later.

If you didn't buy the game used, you could have raised the likelyhood of that happening ;-).

checked out a new game rush yesterday! this one was alot bigger than my usual one. Picked up an offical wii wheel for $15 and a 30 minute flip video camera for $70 for the woman.
when I asked the manager for a PSP he said that blockbuster was no longer going to carry them because they never get the new games for them. i thought that was a little strange but thats what he said.

how much was the hat?
(me want one too)
^ that DVD case looks pretty sweet! they gonna have that in all BBVs?
It does look cool, but what exactly are you getting for $50?

Some TIVs from today from games I got with the target coupon: (all for 360)

The Bigs - 12
College Hoops 2K8 - 15
Monster Madness - 8

At target they wouldn't let me use the 10 off coupon for the 11.99 black 360 controller battery. I think it was just the target employee I ran into tho.
It does look cool, but what exactly are you getting for $50?
I saw this yesterday, its a hard plastic DVD case with all the previous Indiana Jones movie's inside. it looks pretty sweet in person.
just found a flip History Channel Battle for Pacific Wii 8.99 at Frys TIV 23
Dammit! I saw that in the paper today while I was on the plane - of course leaving home where I live right near a Fry's and going someone where there are none :bomb:.

I don't have the paper any more. How long is it on sale there for? Likely it is just a 2-3 day thing (I can get to Fry's on Friday when I'm back).

I did bring a NCAA March Madness 08 with me and hope to $30 plus tax for trade-in at a Virginia Blockbuster (if they still do that - will find out Monday evening).
I saw this yesterday, its a hard plastic DVD case with all the previous Indiana Jones movie's inside. it looks pretty sweet in person.

I know it's not game related, but 3 for 20 on dvd's returns on Tuesday and runs for two weeks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've been eyeing up one stores stack of HD DVD's that have been collecting dust at 2 for $20. Was hoping for a 4 for $30 or 3 for $20 to come along soon.
Not that I have time to watch movies, let alone play games.

Went 'dumping' on my way to work Sunday night.

Store #1: Servers are down, new employee tells me he's not sure if they take games, I should try "cocconuts". Sure buddy, see ya tomorrow.

Store #2: New guy does the trade, I was looking for a new value card, they had none, so got it $89 on a gift card. They also gave me both receipts, I gave them back the one i am supposed to sign, don't want them getting in trouble and drawing attention.

Store #3: New guys again, no value cards $74 on a shinny Iron Man gift card.

The had a nice poster board with game covers and trade in values listed.
Mario Sonic Olympics: 30
Mario Strikers: 20
RE Umbrella Chonicles:30
Iron Man: 35
I traded Sega Tennis for Wii, got $30 still.
I saw this yesterday, its a hard plastic DVD case with all the previous Indiana Jones movie's inside. it looks pretty sweet in person.
Way to get everyone's hopes up. No movies inside- just $50 for the resin case.
