ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Way to get everyone's hopes up. No movies inside- just $50 for the resin case.
So why does it say DVD case at the bottom? :whistle2:?
So why does it say DVD case at the bottom? :whistle2:?
Because it's a case that holds DVDs which it does not come with. Go back to school.

When dumping(games), I like to see if some of my dumpers are still for sale.
I always get a laugh at some of the Forza 2 and MUA's sitting there with the poor covers I printed out. My first few attempts were really off.
The biggest laugh though was a PS3 Stranglehold collectors edition i saw tonight, it was on the shelf for sale, $64.99

Well it could have been a case with the movies inside. Honest mistake man.

Thanks Animemaniac. So gift cards appear to be the better option. Headed in today for my first trading, so I thought I better know which one to ask for.

Yes, they're better, but if the employee actually knows what they're doing (which they might very well not), they will probably tell you that you can only get a value card (or leave the balance on your account at the store).

AFAIK, its company policy to only give trade-in credit on a value card, not a gift card. But many here have been able to get gift cards, so who knows.

Or you can do what I once did:
BB employee: You have to put that on a value card or store credit
Me: Well can I use store credit to buy a gift card?
::pause::
BB employee: Yeah, I guess that would work.

Genius

Thanks Patwrik for the update - I'll get those in the OP later tonight.

I hit up my usual reliable Virginia Target today and they had a couple of NCAA March Madness 08 but they were still scanning $24.98. The employees were in the midst of clearance markdowns so I asked them and they said it did not drop this week - maybe next week. Bah (won't be here then of course). Oh well, I still brought one with me to trade so I'll make sure to do that this evening (saw a BB right near where I'm working).

Edit - Made a run to the nearby Blockbuster at lunch. Got $31.50 for March Madness 08. Now, that is being the ultimate cheapass: buy the game tax free in OR, trade it in somewhere they add sales tax to trades. Of course it requires a $600 plane ticket and 10 hours of travelling (each way). In any case, I turned $10.81 ($12.48 - 1/3 of the $5 coupon since I bought 3 copies originally) into $31.50. Not bad... Of course, if I find more of them and end up taking them home with me I'll get the reverse effect (pay sales tax but get none on the trade-in).

Called Blockbuster and guy said TIV for Medal of Honor Airborne (PS3) was $30.
I thought it was lower than that now though.
Tried to get 2 other TIV's but he was "busy" and couldn't help me over the phone.

Anyone know the latest TIV for The Orange Box (PS3) and Lair?

Thanks.

The TIV for PS3 Orange Box was updated last Tuesday. I believe it was dropped slightly, but check the thread for posts from last Tuesday and it shouldn't be hard to find.

While I was out over lunch, I picked up a 12 mo. Live + Bankshot Billiards + points kit and decided to ask about a TIV on a whim. So, for informational purposes:

DS Touch Detective 2 1/2 - $10

Just picked up a 360 pro, thanks CAG total it cost me $117 (no jokes about over paying) out of pocket.

Now i can finally watch my kmart clearance hd-dvd player lol.

BB is pissing me off right now. I went in last week to buy a couple of DVDs and picked up Bioshock for $25 used. The women that helped me didn't normally work there, and she forgot to put the game in the box. So, I came back later to get it, and I had to wait for 40 minutes until the safe opened up so that I could get my game (apparantly they put used games in a safe) so I was pretty pissed off from that.

Now I tried to use my gift card at a BB this weekend, and the card that was supposed to have $200 on it now has $0. I'm assuming that the girl gave me back the wrong gift card since I used 3 different ones that I had to pay for the $65 that it cost. I'm going up there tomorrow to talk to the manager and get my credit back. If I lose $200 because some girl doesn't know how to do her job, I'm going to be pretty upset. Is there anything in the computer that can help me here?

Why is there no target clearances around me. I've been to 4 around the city and nothing. I guess its just karma for taking advantage of the GS buy 2 get one free sale. Oh well.
Dammit! I saw that in the paper today while I was on the plane - of course leaving home where I live right near a Fry's and going someone where there are none :bomb:.

I don't have the paper any more. How long is it on sale there for? Likely it is just a 2-3 day thing (I can get to Fry's on Friday when I'm back).

I did bring a NCAA March Madness 08 with me and hope to $30 plus tax for trade-in at a Virginia Blockbuster (if they still do that - will find out Monday evening).
yah, i was there again today and the deal ends tomorrow

Traded in a few games today.
Viking -360 -35
Stanglehold Non Collectors Edition- PS3 - 36 (still)
NBA 08 - PS3 - 33

Picked up my first ever PS3 today with my Credit. Cost me $168 in actual cash for a 40 GB!!

Do you guys have any idea if BB has PS2s for sale, as mine is scratching the shit out of discs.

Also, how much TIV would I get for:
Tony Hawk's Project 8 and Proving Ground PS2
DDR supernova
Timesplitters 2
Tales Of Symphonia
Battalion Wars
Pikmin
ICO
Mortal Kombat Unchained
Capcom Vs. SNK DS
Lords of Dogtown UMD movie
NFSUG PS2
Resident Evil UMD movie

Would that get me enough money for a PS2 if they carry them?
I looked at the BB and Gamerush sites and can't figure out how to buy things online, and there's no Gamerush in my area.

LOL. Apart from the two Tony Hawk games, most of those might get $2-$3 each if you're lucky.

Thanks guys for the tip on Bioshock. At $24.99, currently its the best price compared to the other stores. Saw quite a good number of games $14.99 and lower and some I wanted to purchase for the "achievement points" but I decided against buying any sports games that are 2K6 because they are cheap. I did consider the Monster Madness but it's not my type of game...but did pick up Spider-Man 3 for $9.99... I don't care for movie inspired games but heard it's not movie faithful and features a lot of Spidey's enemies...so spending $9.99 won't tick me off if the game sucks.

Hit up 3 Targets in VA and MD and it seemed each one was either behind or ahead of the stupid clearances. At 2, NCAA March Madness 08 was still $24.98, while at another all the $14.98 360 Sports games had been sent off (to Goodwill presumably). I did find a couple of College Hopps 2K8 at the last place along with a Lair which I had been looking for for a while. I'm keeping that - it will be my first PS3 game purchase (though I probably won't get a PS3 until Nov or so).

So hopefully College Hoops 2K8 holds tomorrow as I have 2 and would like to unload one here before I go home.

I also found a Metallic Rose Nintendogs bundle for $105 (at Target) ;).

:wii:
The History Channel:Battle for the Pacific $23.00

The guy I was talking to said that they have gotten every PS3 bundle so BB should be getting the Metal Gear Bundle.

I haven't seen any white PS2s at any store, so I don't think this is solid information.

:headache: Every US PS3 Bundle. Ah actually your right, not very solid at all, but it does give me hope for the MGS4 bundle.

Yesterday traded in:

Orange Box x 2 ($30)
NBA 08 x 2 ($33)
NCAA MM 08 x2 ($30)
HC: BftP x2 ($23)
Artic Tale Wii ($16) ***
NHL 2K8 x2 ($15)
College Hoops 2K8 x2 ($15)
PGR 4 x2 ($15)

I spent $135 and got $338 in credit. I now have enough for my first PS3. :whee:

I will still have enough credit left over to get started on a 360 or maybe I will bite on Wii Fit. I used both Target coupons to get all the 360 games for $4.98 and the PS3 games for $12.48 or $9.98. The Targets in my area finally dropped clearance prices to 75%.

*** I had a second copy of Artic Tale to trade in but when I opened the case the game was missing. :bomb:
Viva Pinata: Party Animals only gets $8. Damn, I bought a bunch for $3.74 at Target for $24 & will only get $48 credit.
2x your money is pretty much my benchmark. I'm flexible all the way up to 1.6x my money ($1 for every $0.60 I spend) but I usually try to go for 2x.

For those looking to buy Live time with your BB/GR credit: if your store has the 12 month kits with Bankshot Billiards 2, a headset, and 200 MS points, they're $50. A local store by me had them marked at $60, but they rang up $50.

Not too shabby considering how much $50 in credit actually costs...

TIVs by phone:

Orange Box [PS3] $30
NCAA 08 March Madness [PS3] $30
NCAA 08 Football [PS3] $13
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground [PS3] $23

2.5 is usually my benchmark. I was hoping to get at least $10 each for these. After gas, it's not worth it.

If 2.5x is your bench, I wonder what everyone else aims for. That's just nuts. I don't really factor in gas as a cost because I my BB/GR is usually on the way somewhere so I'm not going out of my way.

2X is what I look for unless there is something I can flip on Ebay at Blockbuster.
If I can get a wii, i'd take 1.75x what I paid out in credit.

My threshold is 2x, minimum case around 12/24...any lower than that and I usually pass. I'll do a 10/20 if I'm trading in other games at the same time. Best I've been able to do is nearly 10x with some Sears clearance 360 games.

New TiV's via phone:

Xbox360
Assassin's Creed 22
College Hoops 2K8 15
NHL 2k8 15
PGR3 8
PGR4 15
Two Worlds 15

PS3
NBA08 33
NCAA March Madness08 30
Orange Box 30

Wii
Arctic Tale 16

Interesting sidenote--most of the non Gamerush Blockbusters outside of my immediate area seem to have put blocks on their phone numbers...when I call from my home phone, I get the message "We're sorry but this call cannot be completed from this phone at the customer's request"....hmmm, or maybe they just don't like me....good thing I have a cel phone :p

I don't care if I'm only going from 4 to 8, since I'm going to be going to BBs anyway, and buying the $4 probably wouldn't be out of my way, since I was already there and had found it.
