ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

I don't recall the exact price I was quoted on NHL 2K7 PS3, but it wasn't enough to make me want to purchase it from Sears for flipping. Somewhere between $6-8. It didn't meet my 2x-credit threshold.

Well 200+ transfered back to GS so far, and more to go. I'll be damned if I'm going to even take a single 1$ loss, hopefully you guys aren't so desperate that you need to take a loss of any kind on the transfer, as the Spider Man's and Spiderman FOF's seem to be neverending.

Gah, im torn...dunno if i should pick up MGS4 from BB or be a super CAG flip credit from BB to GS, wait for the b2g1 and use the store locator to find a used copy and pick up two other games.

After doing all the calculations with tax, I'm losing $.09 for every Spiderman 3 or Pirates of the Carribbean I trade in. I'm gaining $.03 for every Spider-man: Friend or Foe. It's becoming a little more trickly lately, as I've cleaned out most of the stock at BBVs near me. If I get lucky, I find Meet the Robinsons, Beautiful Katamari, or Virtua Tennis 3.

Depends on how badly you're wanting to play it..... the copies at BB probably won't hang around for too long and it'll most likely be somewhat difficult to find a used copy at GS for at least a little while.

Thanks for the info. I got the PS titles for about $5 and the PSP game for about $2. I didn't think there was much potential since they're all old sports games.

Most games I have traded in were mint, what are the chances of them accpeting beat up copies? Has anyone ever been rejected?

i've been rejected once by a manager. game had light scratches, but im sure it was a lot better than some of the used games they sell. im thinking he was just a douche.

FYI...

i just bought my 80 PS3 MSG bundle at BB/GR for $132 (left over credits) located off colorado/adams in glendale, ca. They still have one left.

I saw Beautiful Katamari today at my BBV. Why do I want it?
I saw Beautiful Katamari today at my BBV. Why do I want it?
it's a neat game and for $10 BB credit it's a steal.

It's also a great game to transfer credit as you even make a little bit of money after edge and bonus.

Thanks. I'll pick it up next time I'm there.

Oh, I inadvertently picked up Ninja Gaiden II for $27.50 at Target. Didn't realize you could return Gears of War and Mass Effect without NG2. I was gonna return and use my BBV credit for it but at $27, I figured I should keep it.

has anybody heard of BBV redoing the trade agreement so you can only trade in 2 copies of one game period? when I traded in my 1st stranglehold today the girl working the counter told me about it.

Speaking of which, do Blockbuster stores share lists of what you've traded in? I had to sign up twice for trading accts at two different stores so I figured either their system is slow or them don't share a network. Anyone?

I assume Gamespot does?

It is now harder to flip to BB/GR here in Hawaii as they will not accept a trade if they have 2 or more of that particular game. So eventhough I can find some Stranglehold PS3 and Sega Supperstar Tennis from GS, none of the BB/GR that I trade to will accept anymore of those. :whistle2:(

GR/BB do not share information between stores unless the person expects you of no good.

or as Io says "A Junior Detective"

Anyone who doesn't at least keep one of these (if they haven't played it before) is not allowed to post in the GR thread any more. That's why ;).

I guess I better head out to some Blockbusters and pick up the 2 Spiderman games before kunai and others drive down the EB/GS trade-in price. Their trade-in values are based on the used sales price, of course, but are also modified by the number of copies they have system-wide. So I could see a $1 or $2 drop on those suckers happening pretty soon.

I guess I'm outta here then.....

Seriously though, I could only find one copy between both my local stores and needed to trade an even number of games in to GS (plus it didn't have the original case or manual). I really do want a copy for myself if I come across another though.

Completed my second transfer trip, now have $220 credit at Gamestop. Can't decide if I want a PSP or not..... might just buy a few games over the next few months instead.

i can confirm wii - meet the robinsons gets $11.60 after edge and promo. i see conflicting values and ? in the op so hope that helps.

Thanks IO for updating the first post, managed to turn a profit today flipping from BB to GS, which is fantastic considering I can in turn flip the GS credit back to BB at a 2 or 3 times higher rate (stranglehold...).

Spiderwick Chronicles :wii: $30 TIV

Got it from Amazon for $14.99 so a great easy flip.

Im running at about a 2:1 ratio for money out of pocket to credit. Not bad. I used the bulk of my credit (about $120) today to pay for my MGS4 and a new DS3 controller.

So back down to $8.57 in credit. Hahaha... Im waiting for the next big flip! Lets get on it guys!

Oh one quick question...will BB take trade ins that are without the cover work? I found about 7 used copies of Stranglehold at a couple of GS's by me but they ALL were without the coverwork and just had the case and the generic GC insert.
I almost felt bad trading the one (Beautiful Katamari) from my local store as it was complete with original case/manual and in pretty good condition (probably an ex-rental so not perfect by any means). And I have my own mint copy of the game (bought at full price from Gamecrazy).

But in general this transfer opportunity is pretty extensive. I bought 4 games as a trial run on Monday from my little local Blockbuster. I was there a couple days ago to scope out those prices for the OP and I moved all the $9.99 games together for easy snagging (they were in no particular order to begin with) when I go back. They had at least 7 or 8 more (all 360) that were, at worst, $9.99 -> $9.40 flips and most were of the $10.50 variety. If this store has that many I imagine some of the bigger Blockbusters will have even more. I may head to one of those tonight.

You could always print out the cover at staples, like many of us did with the forza2/mua flip, some people got in trouble for it but it worked fine for me. I actually saw 2 of the games I flipped with the fake covers today....poor blockbuster.

Shit. I did not think BB/GR would be carrying it so I bought it at Target for $54 off retail. Might have to unload my credit at BB/GR on that bundle.

All of my BB's had 1 MGS4 PS3 and plenty copies of the game.

I flipped 6 of my 10 Spiderwicks. I converted nearly all of it to GS except for a copy of MGS4 I bought to sell online. I can confirm most of the prices in the OP. I got really lucky with finds (only 1 Meet the Robinson though). Even more surprising is that none of the discs looked like someone chewed on them (which most rentals do). I also scored a complete copy of Pikmin 2 and at GS I was able to snatch the last MGS4 LE version.

It was a great day, and i'm hoping it will only get better if they announce a B2G1 tomorrow.

How long is the "trade 2, get bonus $10" running? I'll be out of trading commission this weekend, and can't get around to tranferring credit back (and then forth again) until Monday at the earliest.

According to the website until 6-29

Just to help us apparently... Amazon now have Brand New Stanglehold PS3 for $20.96. Free 2 day shipping with prime. Thats a $13 gain without having to trek all over and deal with GS :D

Order that and Spiderwick Chronicles and you spend $36 with a TIV of $66. :D VERY NICE!

So, I'm assuming BB/GR is not pushing a bundle deal with the 80GB MGS4 PS3 system? I was thinking of using my credit to get that and possibly sell my 60GB on EBAY...people seem to like it, I could care less about BC.

Just got done with a long day of flipping...

Between clueless workers at BB and GS, walking through malls, and driving in 90+ heat with no AC,
I'm exhausted. Came away with 2 MGS4 LE, 1 regular edition MGS4 I'll keep, and Jade Empire. Also rented There Will Be Blood on BLURAY, which I was surprised to see.

I just crushed a MC-D's coffee in hope of not passing out.
I bet I'm not the only one who had a busy flipping day today.

I'm not sure if GS prices vary by market, but at the KC area GS's, I received the following values (after bonus and edge) which are different from the OP values.

I'm not doubting IO, as he has helped me make a bunch lately, but wanted to bring it up:

SM3 X360 = $8.85
MTR X360 = $8.85
TOP SPIN 2 X360 = $8.85
VT3 = $10.50
Beautiful Katamari = $12.97
MTR WII = $9.67

None of these are huge differences, and I still made like $8 to transfer $160 in credit from GR to GS, so I'm not complaining... :)

I'm off to another part of town now to do some perusing...

Transferred $258 in BB/GR credit to $266 in GS credit over the past two days(thanks to several MTRs and VT3's). Was a lot of work but I believe worth it from a gaming standpoint. Thanks to all for compiling the list of equivalent value trades.

It's not a matter of "doubting" me or not - those are reported trade-in values at other Gamestops (some by me personally but from Monday so potentially out of date). Prices can change day-to-day at Gamestop.
Usually they don't vary by market, but those are some weird prices. That means the base trade-in value of Beautiful Katamari is $7.2454 which is just bizarre. I think they did something strange on your trade-ins there. VT3 has me worried, though - that may be a universal drop of $1. It also means $3.50 on those $8.85 titles. Some others have dropped as I've noticed in the
GS thread so it is possible these did drop from yesterday to today.

I can confirm that VT3 is still $11.60 and Spiderman Friend or Foe is still $13.80 with the extra $5 and 10%

Just traded it in about 2 hrs ago.

It is Spiderman 3 I'm worried about. If it did drop to $3.50 that is pretty significant (from $5). And if that is the case, once again djkunai wins since he did 25 of them just yesterday . But you getting $6 for VT3 is good news. Maybe that means the others held as well...

donut in the Gamestop thread reported $5 for VT3 as well. So that is strange. I wonder if it just changed recently and didn't propagate to every store at the same time. On the flip side she (I think) reported $5 for MtR (360) which doesn't match up with the $3.50 sprintfinanceguy reported. I don't know what to think and was just about to head out to buy a bunch at Blockbuster!

I think I've just made my last run...

I've turned $100 BBV credit into $476.31 GS credit (after one more trade in to GS tomorrow).

Latest TIV at Gamestop (I think all repeats, but I figure it can't hurt) plus bonus and EDGE:

360
Monster Madness- 10.50
Pirates of the Carribbean- 10.50
Spider-man 3- 10.50
Top Spin 2- 9.40
Virtua Tennis 3- 11.60
Meet the Robinsons- 10.50
Spider-man: Friend or Foe- 13.80
WWE: Smackdown Vs. Raw 2007- 9.40

Wii
Alien Syndrome- 10.50
Sonic and the Secret Rings- 14.90

Did this literally less than an hour ago. In MD.

The above statement does worry me a little... about TIV's dropping, as I still have to trade stuff in tomorrow. Could the drop be slowly creeping across the nation? It's weird, because the prices should be universally automated through the computer... even then though, we know that some GSs have different prices at different stores in some rare instances (saw BG: Dark Alliance II (XBox) for 9.99 and it goes for 29.99 usually), but I would have figured that drops would be done automatically.

In case anyone hasn't mentioned this, Sonic Rider Wii has TIV of $26 as of today. Not a bad flip at all if you can find it for $10.99 in your local Costco.

How could you get $66 for Stanglehold and Spiderwick Chronicles? Does Stanglehold hold the value of $36? I remember someone said it was $33 this week.

360 Spiderman 3 $5 base trade in at GS tonight.
360 VT 3 $6 base trade in at GS this afternoon

So wait a second...you can buy Stranglehold for the PS3 for $20.09 on Amazon and trade it in for $33 with this sale? Sounds too good to be true (especially since Gamestop.com shows Stranglehold brand new for $19.99...I'm confused) :) Anyone can confirm this? I'd love to order quite a few copies and go from Gamestop to Gamestop. Do individual stores keep track of what you've traded in to other stores in the area? I'm curious...

Yeah, and Stranglehold is 17.99 used at GS. With an EDGE card, it comes down to 16.19, plus tax. Trade that puppy into BBV for $33.

Now, you technically can't trade in more than one copy of it at one time, so you have to be careful. And in very bad scenarios, you can get your account suspended/locked up because it looks like you're stealing games and trading them in. Just rotate stores or something and look for different employees. I'm sure there's a record of what you've traded in, but they don't look at it unless you look suspicious, from my experiences.

that is really strange, as I traded in two MTR's at two different locations, and got $8.85 after bonuses for each of them. BAH... Oh well. I'm just waiting for the B2G1 sale to transfer this all back to GR anyway, and start the process over of moving it back to GS. I wish ANY of the GS's near me had Stranglehold in stock.

IO, since there seems to be some indication the sale will start Monday, have you started thinking about the best B2G1 flips to move credit back to GR?

Obviously Stranglehold and Sega Tennis, but any others you think present a golden opportunity with that sale going on?
