But the PS2 & PS3 are worlds apart in almost ever way imaginable, outside being developed by Sony and sharing similar controller designs.
The PSP got a redesign only 2 & half years after it's release, I would expect the same time frame for the PSP. Probably this time next year, we'll be seeing a newer, slimmer and lighter PS3 for about $400, and at that point it'll finally take off and start to rival the 360. Next holiday season could be big for PS3, if Sony doesn't drop the ball (something they've been doing since May 2005).
The PS2 slim came out because they reduced the chips for the PS2 down to a single system-on-a-chip. That, and they moved the power supply external.
The PS3 is a much more complicated system, and right now, the only way I could see them making a move to a slim system is move the PS outside the unit, make a thinner BR drive, and do more chip integration. Moving the chip to a 65nm or 45nm process would work as well to clear up some internal space.
I can't imagine that happening for the PS3 for a while yet.

Actually, I don't snore anymore, nor do I stop breathing. So, now, I am tired and sleep all the time. My body is trying to catch up on 30+ years of rest, I think...
You don't have that kind of spare time, do you?
