"You know how long it's been since I've been in an accident?"

Mother fuck, I love Scott Steiner.

A new "employment agreement" Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment went into effect on January 1st and will run for three years until December 31, 2013. According to the official SEC Filing posted at WWE.com, McMahon's new role in the company is as follows:

"In addition to his duties and responsibilities as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, the Executive shall serve as the Company’s creative director, and as a writer, and performer at various times for and in the Company’s events and productions."

The three-year deal gives McMahon generous compensation if he is terminated "other than for cause" or leaves on his own accord with "good reason." It also includes a 1-year no compete clause in the event that his agreement is terminated.

I find this fascinating. Of course it doesn't mean anything. Just think about it.
...who the hell is the other commentator on Superstars?
I'd never heard of or seen him, either - until I went looking at the WWE roster pages the other day to see if I could cobble together enough people to fit into the Royal Rumble.

A summary of poor treatment of TNA talent from one of the better wrestling/MMA blogs I've stumbled across:

http://www.cagesideseats.com/2010/9/29/1719902/an-examination-of-tnas-appalling-treatment-of-talent

It's kinda hard to support TNA as the scrappy underdog when their program is shit and they treat their talent like shit. What reason do I have for supporting them in the slightest? I ask that as a genuine question. I know few of you like TNA, but most of us want it to succeed. But I still don't know why.

Well, I know *why* - I'm bored of the talkie-talk for 30 minutes, brief series of 3-minute matches format of shows. I'm sick of general managers, I'm sick of on-the-fly matchmaking (i.e., announcing the main event 20 minutes into a show), I'm sick of the tarts put on tv that are supposed to be 'divas' in a match, I'm sick of previews for straight-to-video movies, I'm sick of even more talking than I mentioned earlier. I want to see a company rise up and challenge WWE's market hegemony. I think I want TNA to succeed because they have the best chance to do so, from the standpoint of resources and tv exposure. In short, I think I want TNA to succeed because they're the only company that can scare WWE into moving out of its comfort zone, where they might change up their programming radically and for the better. It's not going to be ROH - they're a niche product, and while I like their wrestling, a genuinely mass-market popular pro wrestling product must, lamentably, feature a bit less wrestling than that. I think so, at least.

But I'll be damned if there's any real good reason to want to see TNA do well other than them being the only company in the position to do that. Certainly anyone who wants to offer Gail Kim $30-35,000 per year, or who pays Gen Me $200 per appearance - and has them pay their own travel and health care expenses - can't be a company to cheer for, is it?

Not to mention a good summary of the garbage that is WWE programming.

It's safe to say that mainstream televised wrestling programming is, at this moment, arguably the worst it's ever been.

GenMe's pay really sucks especially given how brutal some of their stuff with the Guns was. (see: the empty arena "match")

I wonder how that breaks down even more given that they tape 2-3 weeks at a time and sometimes have talent work multiple matches in one night.
My personal favorite was Scott Steiner not wanting to share his workout secrets.
Well of course you don't share needles.

What were some of the best TNA PPVs from 2005? I'm going to order two or three online. Which ones should I get? I know it's been mentioned in these threads before but I always forget to write them down.

They probably pay them $200 each per taping, so they make $400 every other week to do tv (if they're on at all) - which is guaranteed a net loss with airfare, hotel, and food;; let alone the other things they buy in life (not the least of which would be wrestling attire).

Sounds to me like they're essentially paying to work for TNA. No wonder you had a reigning Knockouts champion working at Sunglass Hut *while* she was champion.

After reading that blog I just don't know what to say. I mean working for a indy promotion I'd often see guys get $25-30 for a night and the local promoter would loan money and sometimes just out and out help with medical expenses. I overheard more than once "Get the MRI... I'll pay for the MRI. Don't fuck around with this...". TNA should be better than this. This is embarrassing.

edit. Tough Enough official

Put that belt on display while working and then you'll really start moving some shades.

I was at a friends house last night watching the Maria shoot on CM Punk out of boredom and she's putting Punk over heavily and all and I don't care...

...Until a guy asks how big his stuff is.

I clicked QUICKLY on that video. And enjoyed 2 seconds of it....until the volumes switched up rapidly on me.

The potential there was strong....but the execution of that video failed so horribly

That's not the only thing that flowed, I'm sure.

On a side note, those of you with Netflix will be happy to know that Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows has made it's way to Netflix.

I have to wonder if the Tough Enough news coming on the heels of a month and a half where it felt like we got 3 hour Raw after 3 hour Raw is significant.

Honestly, even with the 3 (?) they had in a short amount of time, it was overkill. Have to wonder if it was testing to see if people would not just tune on for three hours, but routinely.

I seriously doubt Gen Me are only getting paid $200 a match.. I read a while back the list of TNA public salaries and guys like Sabin were pulling in 200k a year

No way am I watching three hours of WWE straight week after week. And I don't have a DVR, so watching it afterward is out of the question. Unless TE is better than Raw, I won't catch it.

Even as a die-hard wrestling fan, I'm long past the time where I had to catch every WWE program ever. I haven't watched Smackdown with any regularity in years (once every 3 months or so, like I watch TNA Impact). I gave up on NXT midway through season 2, I've never watched Superstars, and I watch Raw 2 out of every 3 weeks, the most frequently.

Kevin Dunn told the NY Times that this was targeted to people who wouldn't normally watch an "event wrestling program." Which sounds to me like he's either convinced himself of two things that aren't true ((a) WWE programming is wrestling and (b) Tough Enough will appeal to non-wrestling fans), or he's using double speak to say it's going to appeal to the WWE Universe™, who aren't necessarily fans of wrestling anyway.

I'll have to see the lineup for Tough Enough, but I can't imagine it being any different than NXT (that is, non-wrestling based and dumb as a kick in the cock), and I can't imagine the show will matter at all. Just like the "diva searches," just like the previous Tough Enoughs, just like NXT, being the "winner" doesn't mean a fuckin' thing when everyone else ends up on the main program anyway.

Ask Kaval, ask Daniel Puder, how much it meant to "win."

Ratings wise on the three hour shows the worst hour has always been the first hour simply because most people know nothing really happens during that added hour. Then again I'm typically watching ROH anyways so I'm not helping in their cause.

The first couple of Tough Enoughs before it became a piece of Smackdown were actually pretty good and we got some good wrestlers out of it.

You know, I really can't wait for the inevitable Warrior/Oprah lawsuit.

Same Warrior time, same Warrior channel!

Or Maven, or Nidia, or Lynda Myles... The only good thing to come out of TE is John Morrison.
The Miz?
Crap... forgot Miz was on Tough Enough. Ok so Miz and Morrison. :) Matt Cappotelli could have been great, but we'll never know.

It speaks volumes about Miz that he is no longer (in my mind and Onyx's) immediately associated with MTV/TE. I never watched TE as I was living in places without cable back then, and I doubt that I'll watch it now, but I do remember Maven's run in the WWE and he always came across (perhaps not his fault entirely) as a small fish in the biggest of ponds.

On the other hand, Miz may not be a 10 time champion but he certainly fits in the larger WWE as well as any main event level talent.

I honestly never watched TE, so I had no idea who was on it

I just remember Maven...and his failure. They even put him in a storyline with Tajiri, and he couldn't hold his own water in it....

And that Nydia girl...failure

I think there was a black girl who was a failure. I'm not confident on that one though...

Shoot....most of these reality show/contest winners have been...FAILURES. Only a few have really succeeded...

Also, The Boogeyman proved that all you have to do to land that dream job is lie your ass off.

I love that that giant WWE logo on the stage has a thousand tiny WWE logos all up the sides of it that you never see unless you're ten feet away from it. And tiny screens showing the WWE logo on each side. Just so you don't forget.

Linda Miles and Jackie Gayda were co-winners. I don't think I need to post Jackie's match with Trish to remind everyone.

Off the top of my head the only successful ones to come out of it were Miz, Morrison, and Matt Morgan. Jury is still out on Ryan Reeves/Skip Sheffield
It speaks volumes about Miz that he is no longer (in my mind and Onyx's) immediately associated with MTV/TE.
I saw an action figure in the store last night that was from a couple years ago when he wore those obnoxiously bedazzled shorts and hats and cut-off shirts and gloves armwarmers and I had even forgotten about that version of the Miz. He's come farther in five years than most other guys ever do.

Josh Matthews has done okay for himself since being on Tough Enough. A lot of people forget about him being a contestant since he hasn't done much in the way of actual wrestling.

I know it was completely because of Cena's injury, but I kinda enjoyed Cole running down what was going on before the show started.

What a great match to kick off the show. Really sets the bar high for everything else now though, which will most likely be letdowns.

Going through my old Photobucket:

Chavo.jpg

I was the only one amused by the idea of Chad, the lost white Guerrero.

Rey/Del Rio 2 out of 3 falls on Smackdown this week...between that and Miz/Morrison i'm kinda frightened by what is going on here.

Morrison can work a match with anyone. Miz is such a bad actor with his ohhs and awws after John kicks out at 2, lol. Morrison should be carrying that belt right now.

Hey Josh Matthews, who's Myla Kunis?

Edit: I don't really follow NXT, how is Andy Samberg doing?

Once again, Tamina was put in a dress and once again...she looked great

WWE stylists stay winning with that mindset!

Don't put her in anything except dresses! She's too damn tall for boy shorts and too damn lanky for singlets. Throw her in a dress, let her hair down, and she looks like a 6/7 instead of a 3-5...

I'm confident enough in my sexuality to admit that I shaved my head and trimmed the beard when I realized how good CM Punk's new look is. New lip ring is in the mail.

Two things this segment told me

1) The Miz/Morrison match tonight was a blow off match. DAAAAAAAAMN YOU WWE!!!! (But I thought so the moment they had it for tonight)

2) The rumors of turning Wade face are probably true thanks to this segment. WWE needs faces right now, but I'd love it if they didn't turn another damn heel face!!!!

It's okay though...get Morrison in the Rumble and Elimination Chamber with a good showing, then have him win MITB.

But it was delivered by a black guy...

AND he was a face saying it to a heel

(Is what the writers justified in their meetings probably)

I heard that stuff and immediately started to say to myself "yea, the writers knew not to let anyone else other than R Truth say that...."
