Yeah, but I figure for now, just having Apoc in it is enough to get me interested.

As far as why I find the appeal of X-Men, I dunno. I've just grown up with X-Men, so it's always been my favorite. I've always found the characters a lot more appealing than some characters in other comics. And since I grew up in the age when I'm pretty sure Marvel was better than DC (or at least more prevelant), that's why I'll always be a Marvel fan first. I could never really get into the DC stories. Though I've always been able to get into Batman comics.

EDIT: Yeah. What RedvsBlue said for the most part. I got hooked in by the cartoon and I really do think most of my favorite comic characters are from the X-Universe also. The Cycs, the Wolverines, the Emmas, the Cables, the Apocs. They just keep coming.
EVERYONE knows that the X-men have the best villians:

Magneto
Apocolypse
Mr. Sinister
the Brood
Brotherhood of Evil Mutants
Sentinels

Definitely. I may even go as far to say that Magneto is one of my all-time favorite characters. I can't believe I forgot him. The only villian I've ever disliked in the X-Universe is the Shi'arr. They just seemed to make the X-Men seem so powerless in comparison, which wasn't cool. Though everyone listed above has been amazing. And I love Phoenix herself, though dislike the whole Shi'arr connection.

The Shi'ar have definitely stepped it up recently in Uncanny. Ruthless and cold-blooded.

Just read the End of Grey's storyline, you will absolutely despise the Shi'ar. They're just as bad, if not worse than any other X-villian.

Magneto, Sinister, Big A are great villians; The brood are alien ripoffs. The sentinels are ok, the brotherhood is only as good as the members. The hellfire club is better than the brotherhood.

When one thinks of rogue galleries, one does not think of X-Men. You think of Spider-Man, Batman, and Flash.

Spiderman has a great gallery of villains like Vulture, Kraven, Morbius, Scorpion, Sandman, Green Goblin, Venom, etc.

Batman has probably the most recognized rogue gallery with such characters as Joker, Penguin, Two-Face, Clayface, Catwoman, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Man-Bat, Killer Croc.

Flash rogues are even more memorable than the X-Men's: Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Gorilla Grodd, Weather Wizard, Heatwave, Captain Boomerang, Professor Zoom.

When I think of X-Men I only think of Magneto. He is more of classical villain than Apocolypse or Mr. Sinister.

I will agree with you on Batman, his villians are easily recognizable even to people who don't read comics. I wasn't really talking about who's villians are most recognizable though. I would never put Spider-man's villians ahead of X-men with the exception of Venom. See, its different for you though because you don't read X-men and you mostly follow DC (from what I can tell) so you don't know much about any of the villians from X-men. I'm mostly a Marvel guy and I recognize the names of Flash's villians but I don't have a clue what they're about.

Wont get into the debate on better villians and what not, but X-mens villains are better at trying to destroy the entire plant, while Flash's are better at trying to destroy the hero's from the inside out.

Damn, I use to love me some X-villians, Apocalypse, Sinister and the Marauders. Thanks to bad writing in the past few years Apocalypse has become a putz. Sinister is no longer that sinisters, and the marauders have just gone the way of the Ben Riley clone saga. So sad, so sad.

Phoenix is a fun toy to them to play with.. it lets them do things like:

Oh, you know that storyline we just spent 6 month (years) on?
Yeah, um, that never happened. :)

Just read Infinite Crisis Secret Files. I am surprised how little DC advertised this title. It really fills in the background of the Superboy Prime and Alexander Luthor.

Just recently picked up back issue of Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. I really liked it. I wished I had bought it earlier at cover instead of $7.00.

Yet despite the lack of advertising on it, it still managed to sell out the tuesday before it released.

The $4 Anihilation and $6 Infinite Crisis Secret Files helped our week quite a bit. Always nice when 2 big books come out at the same time... now we just need people to come in and buy 1 of our 20+ copies of V

It's the one where its all pictures, not hand drawn art. Kinda fun :)

On a side note, I've decided that most of my collected edition purchaes will be hard cover. V for Vendetta is first, and the Invincible HC #1 will be next...and probably Ultimates and/or Ultimate FF after that

I just bought Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk and it is a great title for me to get back into comics. The Hulk has always been one of my favorites and the third page with Hulk and Wolverine was a shocker. I picked this up after that crappy Ultimate Xmen Saga that was just a stupid overview.

*figures this would be the best place to ask*

I'm looking to get one or two posters for my upcoming apartment room wall. Big fan of Superman myself. I've been scouring ebay and such looking for something I like, but I haven't found anything yet. Was wondering if you guys could help?

I like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Supergirl-Poster-Bruce-Timm-Justice-League-Animated_W0QQitemZ7400730621QQcategoryZ28009QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-POSTER-SUPERMAN-BATMAN-13-CV-SUPERGIRL-MICHAEL-TURNER_W0QQitemZ6615346398QQcategoryZ17076QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Those are both of Supergirl, who I'm not really interested in, but they have what I'm wanting; basic shot of the character, with little else, in comic style. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (If you know of any good sites, you can direct me to them too.)

I'm going to go over to the comic book store tomorrow and look at what they have, but I'm pretty sure I'll pay an arm and a leg for anything they have.

No problem. Its been a great seller for us, so figure most people would like it :)
They have a "matching" Batman one as well where he's over in dark gritty gotham if you want bookend posters

Lol. I picked up the Alex Ross Mythology art book not too long ago. I thought it would be a nice book to just flip through, but it ended up being a great read as well.

So far I've purchased every 1 year later titled. So far they've been very good. Robin was great and a good mystery. Batman seems like a kind and gentle vigilante. Supergirl and Legion (meh). Green Arrow (looking forward to GA vs. Deathstroke). Catwoman (who's the daddy?). Nightwing (huh, two of em). Aquaman (a young arthur curry?)

I have to admit Robin is by far my favorite, I did a review of it on my website. The only disappointing ones so far were Aquaman and Manhunter.

I thought Aquaman was great. Instead of having a backdrop of a dopey superhero that can talk to fish, they now have a more mystical/fantasy feeling to it all.

Yeah I know and I dig that don't get me wrong, but I've enjoyed the others so much more. Ohh and its nice to see Butch Guice drawing anything.

Gotcha.

I'm still in shock that I liked the Superman issue so much. My customers keep giving me weird looks when I tell them they have to read Superman... and then they come back in a few days and rave about it too. Can't wait to see where that goes.

I'm just getting back into comics... Can i start up 1 year later without background info? if not how far back do i need to go for the relevant info?
Gotcha.

It really gives you that feeling that you've been dropped into the middle of a story, and want to know what happened really badly, but what's going on now is interesting too.

You can start 1 year later with no prior knowledge for most titles. Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Robin and a couple others are easy to jump into as is. If you want to catch up on the big things going on otherwise check out:

Identity Crisis
Omac Project
Villians United
Day of Vengeance

and catch up with Infinite Crisis.
All good reads, but you really dont NEED to read them for 1 year later issues

The 1 year later books have all shown me one thing...
I'm going to be buying 52 each and every week.

This thread seems to be predominantly DC. Is anybody reading Squadron Supreme? I have the first issue but haven't read it yet. I'm a little disappointed that they moved the title from the MAX imprint to the Knights imprint. I don't search out blatant sex/violence but it worked for Supreme Power, especially since it doesn't take place in the mainstream Marvel U.

I think it's cuz the current Marvel setup right now is highly underwhelming compared to DC. DC's come out of its corner swinging left and right since early last year - Batman: HUSH, Identity Crisis (although it ended with a 'meh' ending), Villains United, Infinite Crisis, and 1 Year Later. The last time I was interested in Marvel was the pre-M Day stuff and even then I kinda felt forced to pick them up. The one that remains in my lineup is U. Spiderman & Amazing as I'm a big Spidey fan.

You are so right on that! I am really looking forward to 52.

Questions for you comicbook readers:

1. Have you read V for Vendetta?

2. Have you seen the movie yet?

3. If you've seen the movie, should I read the comic first?

Ok, another just getting back into comics and need help post, but I've got specifics in mind and am also looking to start a fresh series as well.

Last books I read were the Identity Crisis, all of them. And I started to get the Green Arrow, I think it was Arrow, Rebirth and Batman/Superman, but then stopped getting them. Whats the verdict on the Marvel Zombies books? And when is the Marvel Civil War stuff supposed to start.

I will look into some of the other suggestions as well, but am trying to find some good books, that are affordable and easily available, featuring (but not limited to) Superman, Xmen (specifically Wolverine, but any the entire Xmen would do), and possibly Batman.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

How is the Superman: Red Son? Looks somewhat interesting.
Red Son is amazing!!!
Yes, it is. I love the way the ending worked out as well.

Looks like I'll be picking those up, most likely off of Ebay for now.

Also looks like I'll be starting off with these:

Batman/Superman - atleast try to find the set (hate to not read things in order)
Green Latern Rebirth - see above
Marvel Zombies - is it worth it?
Superman: Red Son
.....and whatever else others suggest
and the covers are great too
Yeah, they are nicely done. This is the only book where I was tempted to pick up a reprint just because the cover was so sweet.
Red Son is amazing!!!
What is Red Son? I'm headed to Portland, OR this weekend, maybe I'll look for a copy?

Did anyone pick op the New Avengers one-shot? The illumaniti (something like that). I really enjoyed and the premise has me looking forward to it. This Civil War thing seems like it will give 1 year later a run for its money.

Illuminati surprised the hell out of me... especially when someone mantioned that Bendis wrote it (It read more like Mark Millar than Bendis to me).

As for Red Son.... It's an elseworlds (most likely, probably, never happened...sort of. I'll figure it out after Crisis) book.

What if instead of landing in rural Kansas (Smallville), Superman landed in Communist Russia? He still has his sensabilities, but they are more skewed to the Communist ways. Luthor is in the US protecting them from the invading alien menace (Yep, he's technically a good guy). It also has Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Bizzaro and I think someone else (too early still).
