Sure, everyone knows about Zelda, Mario, Mega Man, and the Bionic Commando. But what made the NES so great was it's library of lesser known, although just as great, games. Take a look at some of my favorites:

Whomp Em
Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom
Little Samson
Bad News Baseball
Mappy Land
Cybernoid
Darkwing Duck

Anyone else care to add your favorite games to this list? I am just going off the top of my head, and I'm sure I could think of others.

Solstice
Legacy of the Wizard
Goonies II
Deadly Towers (yes I know it was incredibly cheap...)
Micro Machines (tank racing, omg...)

Rocket Ranger
Conquest of the Crystal Palace
Dragon Spirit
River City Ransom

already mentioned favorites:

Monster Party
Battle of Olympus
Crystalis

Duck Tales rocks. So does:

Little League Baseball Championship Series
Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers
Adventures of Lolo
Tiny Toon Adventures
Little Nemo: The Dream Master

Ahhhhhh Little Nemo,... many, many hours of bliss.
Same with Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers,... but they were mainstream back then, and are hardly obscure titles.

McDonalds Kids,.... HAH, Treasures' early array of hits began!! I wish I had that game still sealed.

Abadox..... sweet game, but frustrating. Not as bad as Swamp Thing, or Werewolf though.
I hear that there is an Altered Beast ROM floating around out there for the NES.
I wonder if its' a SMS build, or a real NES game.

HMMMM?

Overlord - great strategy game that reminds me of Star Control
Vice Project Doom - still have this one somewhere
Amagon
Flying Warriors
Swords and Serpents
Magic of Scheherazade
Faxanadu

Others already mentioned:
Crystalis
Guardian Legend
Little Nemo
River City Ransom
Princess Tomato
Blaster Master and so many others...

River city ransom
Marble Madness
Little Nemo- The Dream Master
Rescue Rangers
TMNT 2
Bucky O Hare
Jaws
Maniac Mansion
Tecmo Super Bowl
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Three Stooges
Tiny Toon Adventures
Califonia Games
Double Dragon

ill have to admit i am kind of a sellout when it comes to nes games
i like everything that is usually popular
metroid
Little Nemo
Marble Madness
gold carts / multi carts :) (rare swapmeet/garage sale grabs)

I second Whomp Em, Darkwing Duck, and Yo-Noid. Add:
- Ducktales
- Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers
- Blaster Master (not sure if this is really obscure)
- Super Spike V-Ball

^one of my favorite games. "Wrath of the Ninja"

Sky Shark..

hmm.. stuff that wasn't mention.. this Street Fighter 2010 game (i thought it was arcade street fighter when i got it so).. Journey to Silos.. (great..) hmm.. Conquest of the Crystal Palace rules.. as does blaster master.

The two that come to mind for me are:
Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball - every character is different, and fields are weird. It's like Mario Baseball, only 15 years earlier!
Tecmo World Wrestling - play-by-play commentator and anime-like special move cutscenes.
Solstice
Legacy of the Wizard
Goonies II
Deadly Towers (yes I know it was incredibly cheap...)
Micro Machines (tank racing, omg...)
i loved this game, it rocked, i still have it, got a nes a yard sale yesterday for 5 bucks cuz i wanted to play it

Magic of Scheherazade
Dragon Spirit
Pinbot (one of the best pinball games ever!)

Too bad Scheherazade crashes midway through the game on my GBA pocketnes emulator...and Pinbot doesn't work right either :(

Dragon Spirit owns, great shooter! 2 different ways to play through it, too, depending on the initial fight, whether you win or lose. :D Hell, I can remember the 1st stage music right now. :D
Solar Jetman!
Another vote for Solar Jetman
Dragon Warrior IV (I think)
Golgo 13
Blades of Steel
Journey to Silius

Just about anything published by Acclaim

I'm surprised to see my favorite obsecure game not mentioned in this thread, which might make it REALLY obsecure, but from the bowels of SquareSoft comes:

The Adventures of 3D World Runner!

It's $5 from EB and worth every penny. It's so much fun (especially as a drinking game ;) ).

How can you go wrong with a game that originally came packaged with those red/blue 3D glasses and had a setting to play the came in "true" 3D?!
