The Fifth Annual CAG NCAA March Madness Contest (Winning Scenarios in Post #266)

Best of luck to everyone! I've seen the least of sports savvy people win these brackets, so anyone has a shot.
Uh-oh, Memphis is having trouble with Cal St. Northridge right now.
Well they are leading now. I'm happy because I'm up in 2 out of 3 games. I wish Butler would have gotten off to a better start. The other 9 I picked is rolling along at the moment Texas A&M.

Hmm...I have memphis losing in the second round to maryland. I just think they lost too much talent compared to last year and they were not nearly as impressive this year as last in terms of competition they played/quality wins imho. I'll be pulling for CS-N.

...And I now have class for the next 3 hours...doh! I'd actually skip class for once in a blue moon if I didn't have a quiz in one class and a test in the other...unless I could some get a doctor to endorse me with having March Madness o_O.

Somethings to keep in mind:

Only four times since 1985 have the top four seeds in each region survived the first round,

12 seeds have won more games in the first and second rounds than No. 11 seeds in the 64/65-team era, and in only three of the past 26 years were all four No. 12s sent home without a W. Six of the past 10 years, at least two 12-seeds won first-round games

• A No. 5 seed has never won the national championship.
• A No. 7 seed has never reached the championship game, and the only one to even reach the Final Four was Virginia in 1984.
• The lowest seed to win the national championship was No. 8 Villanova in 1985.
• The lowest seed to reach the Final Four is a No. 11 (LSU in 1986, George Mason in 2006). In fact, they are the only teams seeded lower than eighth to do so.
• A No. 13 seed has won at least one game in eight of the past 11 years.
Memphis was really making me sweat for awhile there. ;)
Same here considering i have Memphis winning it all
Damn it, Butler!
I feel you. Well, I got a good start 2-1. Now, let's see how the next set brings.

I'm 6/6 thus far. Memphis will not win it all. But they'll make E8. I'll be 7/7 when the Connecticut game finishes up. Washington is losing 10-6 at the moment, but four points is nothing in basketball.

EDIT: Now 10-10. As I said nothing.

Looks like Washington will pull it off, but still lots of time left. I need them to win by 6 for my bet card that I have. I have 8 games on it, this is the 4th of 8. If I get all 8, I win $750 on a $5 bet.

The bad tallies:

1 person neglected to make any picks at all
1 person made picks for just one region and nothing else
1 person made picks for the first couple of rounds and nothing else
3 people made picks for everything but the championship game

I picked Washington to win, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mississippi State won and beat Purdue to make it to the Sweet 16. They played great in the SEC Tournament, even though the SEC wasn't that great this year.

Meh...4-3 so far, but i've picked against the big ten and big 12 out of spite more than anything else. Both conferences completely underwhelmed me this year. And don't even get me started on the sec. Thank god for the big east this year. I'll be shocked if a team from either of the two conferences outside of Michigan St. advances past the sweet 16 (yes, that includes oklahoma)

Well, I'm done following the tourney now - good luck to everyone else. I'll see how I did at the end but have no interest in watching games any more .

UCLA vs VCU was basically a coin flip type game for me. After the incredible game he had against Duke in the tourney a couple years ago, I was really pulling for Maynor to hit that final shot at the buzzer for the win. That had to be a heart breaking moment. VCU lived up to their billing as the chic pick for teh upset, and that was probably one of the two best games of today (along with Cal St Northridge vs Memphis).

im liking this western kentucky upset :) I hope they can pull out, im a little peeved at the officating in this game. Illinois is getting screwed on calls something fierce.
I will laugh out loud if Illinois wins. xDDD
I would have too, shame it didnt happen. I picked WKU to win, but a poorly offciated game this was.

Ugh. I hope the first round doesn't stay this tame tomorrow. I can't remember who said it earlier, but someone stated that wake can play like one of the best teams in the country at times, and be god awful at others. I hope they "play badly" tomorrow and have a tight game with Cleveland St. A 5-12 doesn't have the same excitement it used to anymore as there are some cases where the 12 is actually the superior team, albeit from a smaller conference. However, if a 13, 14, or a 15 wins in a tight game, that game will still have a magical feel about it.
