Wolfkin, you make great points.
a) I agree with you 100% about people like that. People should be trying to get more people to try their game instead of putting people off like that. Goldeneye was the same way. I didn't care one way or another about the maps or the weapons but some people still get bent out of shape when you so much as mention a proximity mine.
b) My only thing about Maddenites is that they get a bad rap. You lump them in with the GTers but aren't fighting game fans very similar? Didn't Street Fighter II get yearly updates with basically only roster updates? Yes, certain characters were nerfed or certain exploits were added or taken out but isn't that what EA does when certain players/teams get better or worse over time? People can take any game/series that comes out and play the hell out of it.
One of my brothers is a Maddenite but he's only 18 so I let him slide. I don't burn him for it. I just buy him games he would never normally buy himself. I got him Exit (PSP) for Christmas. He had a shitty look on his face at first but loves the hell out of it now because it's different.
My other brother is a Call of Duty fanatic. He only stopped playing 4 so he could play WaW. Now, he's back to 4 and I don't think it's left his 360 for weeks. He's a guy that download his games to a 20GB hard drive and still have room left for demos, videos, etc.
Part of the reason why some younger people skew towards one game is because of money. My brothers are in school and just get limited hours at their part time jobs. They don't have money to get more games and usually don't until I give it to them as a present. I usually get them stuff niche stuff but I gotta get them the God of Wars and Gears every once in a while.
As for "gaming specialist", I don't agree with it. It doesn't matter if you play one game in a month or fifty. If you game, you're a gamer.
