Current Trade in Promos:

GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Seems pretty evident around here that GS is in clear-out mode for that console generation.
Seems to be for anything under $10, but some of the pricing reflects that they are still proud to display many of those titles. Guess I am hoping that $5 preorder bonus becomes a thing for them trying to get future customers and whatnot. I am pretty green at trading to GS so I am not familiar with their trade promo frequency. Though, following this forum, I am getting the impression it has been thunderdome in there over the past year or so.

GS: Hey please trade us 10 phones...here's your cash.

Also GS: ...wait, you also want to trade in 2 copies of Minecraft at the same time? You POS criminal! Get out of our store. I called the police and banned your account!

Bad start to the GameStop gambling. One DS game they sent me the wrong version and the copy of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon I got is a fake, but of course there is no packing slip. Any of have success returning without a packing slip?
Did you check the shipping label? Sometimes the packing slip is printed on the same sheet of paper. It would be folded behind it.

According to the subreddit, the next round of stores are scheduled to close in April. Only confirmed is somewhere in Metro Atlanta.

You the real MVP. It was there. Only problem is it's a free game due to promo. Wonder if they'll give me a hard time about it...

Does anyone know if the buy 2 get two works with the $5 bonus reward each month
I have had them let me use it with the 4 for $20 but they had to enter it manually so it's probably very much a YMMV type thing. I would suspect it's less likely being this is a more of a limited time sale, but that's pure speculation on my part.

Should work if one of the four is at least $5 more than the others. if you get 4 that are the same price, the cert will apply to one game and become the free game and you will use the cert and get no money off the purchase.

Tried to buy a game from GameStop. Not in stock at my closest store. Okay, I will buy it online. Need $35 minimum order for free shipping. Okay, there are a couple other games I have been holding off on, I will just pull the trigger on them too. 10 minutes later and multiple errors trying to checkout on the app, looks like amazon has the same price on the game and ships free with that paid membership I have.

I do not understand GameStop's business model...it is as if exchanging games for money is a difficult concept for them.

I just read that. It's almost like they are closing lots of store in phases...
The first stage of grief is denial, so I am willing to accept I was wrong and eat shit. I've been giving GameStop a good deep-dicking for the last 5 years, and don't want to believe it's almost over. Collecting physical games is going to be so much harder and more expensive now.

(I still don't understand how a YouTuber with a grudge got a scoop this big as opposed to a journalist or major gaming outlet, maybe none of them wanted to run with such a big story without more concrete evidence.)

I don't really think people realize how much this will change the scope of collecting physically because once GS finally goes under that's when shit will hit the fan IMO. As a lot of stores that are selling their games at better prices now are doing so to compete with GS but once they are gone they will be fine with just keeping their games at higher prices. Also before all the "your wrong and stupid" replies this is clearly my own opinion and nothing concrete just the way I feel about it.

We will talk fondly of the salad years, when there was Circuit City, Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Toys R Us, Kmart, Sears, etc. and more clearance than we had credit for, and we could relish the stories of IATCG and how he roamed a swath from Harrisburg to Syracuse, New Jersey to Buffalo while hunting games, penny guides and plastic bags into near extinction.

The simple answer is that he used to work there for a long time. Not only does he still know people in high-ish places, but he became the go-to person for those who were disgruntled with the company to pass their info along. His own analysis may be laughably bad (confusing EPS with stock price for example), but there is no reason to think that his information itself is not legit.

I would think GS has a lot of opportunity to remain relevant and actually be profitable. They do probably need to greatly reduce their "brick and mortar" presence and get their online store functional. But if they do go the way of the Blockbuster, I would not lose hope, there is competition out there. Most of us already shop many retailers now and the internet will keep pricing in check.

We're going to be at the mercy of whatever Target/Walmart decide to carry at a time. My Target remodeled and their new layout only has facings for <50 games per system. This isn't going to affect people that buy digitally, but if you're looking for a specific title or anything from last gen, you'll be at the mercy of 3rd party sellers on Amazon/eBay and OfferUp. I couldn't predict what prices will be like without GameStop to regulate the market, but I don't think we'll be seeing great games make it to $4.99 (and without the added bonus of a 4 for $10).

GameStop HAS shit the bed with their retro prices lately, but I've been able to get games like Godzilla, Gravity Rush Remastered, and Job Simulator much cheaper than what they're going for online. Someone mentioned Wheel of Fortune for Wii U going for $30 online, but that's $9.99 or 4 for $20 at GameStop.

I do think Amazon can help combat some of this...but it is a solid thought.

Although ever see some physical games shoot up in price (usually your RPGs)?

Also there is something to be said for having a shelf full of games...boxart....and alphabetical order..... mmmmmm

Also, I know someone on here joked about stealing games from the library and selling them to GameStop. Look what I got in the mail from GameStop yesterday...[attachment=33682:IMG_20200225_184618.jpg]

Between this and the damaged, dirty, broken, cigarette smelling, stolen, and fake games I've been getting from them recently, it's obvious GameStop will accept anything. I'm tempted to take a copy of Super Mario Bros, print out a low quality Stadium Events sticker, slap it on and see how much GameStop will give me.

Had some BOPS orders cancelled and called customer service regarding this. They said that they will follow up on this and respond to me in an email. Does anyone have any experience with phone -> email correspondence? I hope the CS representative isn't just blowing smoke.

In my experience when a phone cs person says "we will follow up on this" "we'll take care of this in 7-10 days" "this will be processed by our back room."  It never gets done.  They're are exceedingly bad.

Someone on the subreddit is saying 700-1000 stores at the end of March.

I listened to 15 minutes of Camelot at work, where he claims they're closing HALF of their 4,400 stores at the end of Q4, which is over 2,000. He also said "Phase 3" started in December, when that was just the normal round of closures.

The DL/RL purge was July 31st. He claims he broke the news about that weeks before anyone else, but the video where he "breaks the news" was posted AFTER it happened.

So yeah, I'm not eating shit today.

My hope is they are mainly just closing the stores there they have several in the same town or even some right across the street from one another.  It would make sense to start there it seems.  But ya never know, it's not like GS is known for their level headed decision making skills..

Received 44 games so far, only 17 have original cases, none have manuals. 1 disc came looking like a dog chewed it up and of course it’s listed on the packing slip as free. Idk how I’m going to handle that

I had something longer typed, but I'll juts keep it short. Camelot broke the news about the DL/RL purge in the sense that he reported it before the Kotaku/Polygons did. He didn't claim he called it before it happened (not that I can find at least).  He did predict not only the corporate firings, but also the DAY they would be happening, and he did it on youtube many days ahead of time. No one knew about those but him.

Phase 3 he said would be GS closing about half their stores over this next year. They already closed a decent sized amount in December (which is crazy in itself in retail) and if they really are about to close another 700-1000 that would put them on pace to do about what he said. It would also line up with what the company themselves said, which is that a "larger tranche" of store closings was to come, which is as close to admitting a plan like phase 3 was ever going to come from them ahead of time.

As far as I can see, Camelot's source has been accurate, and every day seems to prove them more and more right if anything.

i think it will be lease driven...first are leases expiring followed by leases that have the least penalty to break.

Yep. I think almost all of their leases expire over a 2 year period. I know they want out of the mall locations.

It's all about reducing the expenses on their books right now, along with generating any cash flow they can.

Where are we getting the 700-1000 figure from? I can’t seem to find it on the subreddit.

I do wonder how redundant the closing stores are. Most cities have GameStops that are way too close in proximity to each other.
Reminds me of when they were planing on buying out EB Games, there was EB and a GameStop in the same mall...

Then a few miles away, there was a FuncoLand, which also got bought out and made into a GameStop I think, which eventually closed as well.

Same issue with one of the GameStops that was closing around here, there was another one just a few miles over the highway. I can't even remember how many years they have had these two store open.

Why I'm never buying from them online ever again. Neither of my issues from the holidays have been resolved. I got an email a few weeks ago letting me know they were expecting slight delay to email response times... that was a month after I sent the email.

The odd part is, stores are still relatively solid in terms of employees/CS. Even with the annoying "wanna preorder XYZ?", the employees are usually perfectly fine people.

I had to call in four different times to get a B2G2 free game (equivalent price in stock) sent to me. I did this twice. So eight different calls. Two things I became aware of doing this. First, they WON'T call back in a day or two. Second, female customer service specialists get things done. Next time, I'm just going to hang up and call again if I get a dude.

Since we are talking about customer service, I feel like I need to say Nintendo's phone customer service is an absolute pleasure to use. I try to come up with reasons to call just so I can chat with them.

Anyone else had trouble with pre-orders lately?  Went to pick up my pre-order of Mega Man Zero/Zx Legacy Collection for XB1 this morning and store said they didn't get any of their PS4 or XB1 copies in.  Kinda pissed, gonna give it until friday til I cancel it and get the money back.  But judging their site and Amazon, looks like something might be going on with that game.

I just picked up my copy today but I might return it and opt to get a digital code, shoulda did that in advance but I was in a rush.

This wipes off in 1 wipe with iso and a qtip.

I just got back from GameStop looking for MegaMan Zx for switch. Not the guys fault but he's like it was pre-order only and "no one around here has it"

Found it at Best buy next door. Idk just annoyed at the no one around here has it comment.

If more stores are closing I just hope I get my animal crossing switch, i already paid it off at one store.

When GameStop’s gone this site will be nothing but ymmv deals. Best Buy and targets game section is mediocre at best.

Just talked to the SL in my local store and apparently corporate told him that no store in our district is closing. He mentioned that this is one of the best performing districts in the country, so it seems that corporate is not basing everything purely on lease terms. I am inclined to believe him because the store is very busy even on a Wednesday, but I also understand that my situation is an anomaly. Regardless, it certainly makes sense for them to close underperforming stores and liquidate their stock in order to generate enough cash flow to survive until the next consoles.

The unfortunate part is that the DL treats the employees like trash even though the stores here are still profitable. The DL still threatens their jobs if they don't meet certain metrics. He should consider himself lucky that his district is still profitable enough to keep him employed.

Not sure if we knew this. Earlier I cancelled a preorder from last year they couldnt cancel and let me buy a eshop card in the same transaction. Had to cancel to a GC and then in a seperate transaction apply the GC to the eshop card. The one employee said it was probably a preorder bonus.

Just picked up my Mega man today, on PS4. Receipt has a dlc code for some remix songs. I didn't even know about that.
