Current Trade in Promos:

GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

I just traded in my Xbox One S 1TB edition.  The only games they would take of mine were Gears 4 (not 5?) and Forza Horizon 4, which came out to be $236 in store credit.

I got a back button attachment for PS4, $20 of Nintendo eShop, and $120 worth of Steam Bucks.  Had a $10 rewards coupon, left with $96 in store credit.

Went on the website and got a new Xbox Electric Volt controller and Blue Reflection 2 for $3 out of pocket, shipped.

So I got $270~ MSRP worth of stuff for $3 out of pocket today.  I paid $120 for the Xbox One S about four years ago, so if you account that, it's a 220% return on investment.

Not a bad day at GameStop.

Imagine if you'd put that $120 into GameStop stocks instead of getting the Xbox. You could've had more than 220% RoI. /s

I think you can be banned for going over $500 in cash trades (rolling 30 days). Other than that I can't think of a reason in your situation. I would call customer service and have them look into it.
The interesting thing is that all of my trades were for store credit, so I have no idea why it has triggered a ban. I tried calling customer service twice. The rep was incredibly unhelpful and told me that they "have no way of knowing why specific accounts are banned" and the online rep said the same thing. Their response was to "try again in a few months." What poor customer service.

I tried a second online chat about an hour ago, and that rep left the chat after I asked my question. What an incredibly awful company. Between this, and the randomness of their deals and lack of communication with their field employees on promos, I still have no idea how this place is still in business.

Maybe try their Twitter like someone else mentioned. Must have been a junior detective flagging your account for some reason. I think others have seen a note in their PUR points activity when they are banned so maybe look there?

I took in my One S and my red mario switch to trade last night. The employee started the conversation with "we will have to see if we can get this done in time". After that he grabs my One S, and takes it to the counter and proceeds to tip it over and hit it for at least a minute until some dust falls out. He then tells me he cant take it due to "black specs that could possibly be bug parts". Mind you, the One S is literally flawless, and he had to hit it over and over and over to get anything out. I was pissed, but I told him to just do the switch then. He immediately says, ya I cant take that either without even LOOKING at it.
Whenever I have employees just openly hostile towards me (once when I asked for a print out of preowned in a specific price bracket) I just leave and go to the next store and not waste anymore time. But it did seem like you came close to closing time. I try and do system/big game trades in during the day if possible ("working from home") O:)

lol I wish I could, but if I did that, he would know what his gift is. I've been trying to think of clever ways to take it away without suspicion, but he hasn't given me reason too. Oh well, just hoping the value holds.
Buy a big bag of rice and ziplock bag and then one day after school tell him that you spilled a drink on it and letting it dry by soaking it in rice. Then the next day it disappears and you say you dropped it off at the electronic repair guy at the mall/stripmall/etc?

Or just search his room until you find the porn and then punish him until Christmas! :robot:

How much was it? I've been tempted to get a 3ds again but they seem to be keeping their value :(
Oddly it qualified for the $10 off $100+ promo and then since it didn't come with a charger the manager knocked another $30 off, so I got it for $100 :D/

I've tried Twitter this evening - will see if they actually answer. The odd thing is that the store I did my most of my prior trades at (including my last trade a week or two ago) was with an incredibly nice manager, who encouraged me to continue bringing trades in, as she said that it looks favorably for their store and helps her numbers when they accept them. I can't imagine she would flag my account after our pleasant exchanges. Unfortunately, she wasn't working this evening.

The reps on the phone and chat have been no help. I just tried again, hoping that a different rep would be better - but no luck so far.

That's so strange. Well if you want to go back I'm sure she can look into it for you. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think managers typically always work on Sundays.

Did you try twitter? Other users have mentioned they were able to give them specifics on bans on occasion.

Edit see this was already asked and answered. Anywho good luck.

Well, they close at 9, and I went in at 7:21 :whistle2:/

they don't, 1 Sunday a month. More likely to catch them on Friday/Saturday. But really, Monday's are pretty common as they have conference calls typically late afternoon.

I got an email saying that I can renew my Pro membership for only $10 right now and get the 10,000 points.  I dread going into a GameStop store, but I'm intrigued by this deal even though my Pro doesn't run out until 1/1/22.

I always renew online.  Is there any way that I can get this to work online?  It's not showing that as an option when I log into the website.

You can't get it online as an active member. You can do it in-store, but I should warn you that you probably won't get the 10k points since I didn't when I renewed earlier in the week as an active member. It could be that only new or lapsed members get the points, and that would make sense since it's advertised as a welcome gift. But I was content with just extending my sub for $10. If you don't mind calling, there's a good chance customer service will give you the points if you don't get them.

As someone else mentioned, check your Rewards Activity and see if there's a note to indicate why you were banned.

It's been taking a while. One of my accts I renewed a few days before Thanksgiving and got no points. I used the website chat on Black Friday, had them add 10k and then a bit more than a week after that the renewal 10k showed up backdated to before Thanksgiving.

It takes 8-12 weeks to get your first issue in the mail. It used to be that you'd get your first magazine in the store when you sign up, but they don't carry the magazine in-store anymore.

Jr detective reporting. I went in one random Saturday and traded some Walmart finds, was heavily questioned, provided receipt, and was banned anyway the very next day when I went back to trade one straggler.
You're kidding? I hope the receipt from Walmart wasn't recent to the trades.

I bought Dark Souls 3 Fire Fades during BF and since the price went down to the same value yesterday and I also had my monthly $5 I bought it again. I shouldn't have any issues returning the one I bought during BF right?

Traded my OG 2013 XBONE today. Employee said he'd have to deduct $20 for scratches. I said, "What scratches?" He had to hold it up to the ceiling lights to show the faintest of marks and said they made it "un-sellable." I went along with it because it was still a decent amount with the trade bump, but it still felt kinda scummy.

did you trade them in sealed? Why would you need to show a receipt?
Yea, that's super weird.

Never, ever try to trade in sealed games.

I typically sell sealed stuff to a mom and pop shop because of that. Games I either got on clearance or in a lot of games still sealed typically get more in trade from them versus opening them for GameStop.

No sealed game. WM app keeps digital receipts of all purchases. I was getting questioned about game content as if it was a thought that the games were stolen because of the quality of the discs.

That SL is not even with the company anymore

Yeah I’d never try to trade in a new/sealed game. Someone just had a hard on and his fisher price badge that morning. The DM hates me so it was an easy flex to call in a favor to LP. Also, my receipt was well over a month old. I only traded during MWT weekend for a whole month’s finds.

No I never reached out to GameStop twitter.

You got JD’d. You could not have predicted what would happen. But if anything goes awry during a trade I just abandon ship and go to the next store. Better to live to trade another day. Glad your excessive ban got lifted!

Not a fan of walking into GameStop to do business, but $60 in Xbox Live credit with the monthly coupons for only $10 is worth it. I'll do it in the morning. Hope the renewal deal holds out until then.

As far as I am concerned, using your GameStop rewards/PUR monthlies on digital currency and subscription is likely hitting them in the thinnest of margin items.

I can't believe they don't take a soak on giving out digital currency at any loss.

Not a fan of GameStop, either, but I will still want to maximize my dollar. And the employ local folks unlike buying strictly online.

you could always just overreact to something bad he does and take it away lol for 2 weeks haha no don’t do that

This is why I lick all my discs then rub on my dog then throw the cases around the in a bag with some rocks to put some flair on my trade ins. Sometimes it helps to split the gamestop pre-owned stickers font/back onto two generic cases if you're trading in multiples.

Yeah defninitely have a collection of busted gs cases to sub out for new game trade in flips. Funny to see reaction sometimes of a busted case /yellow sleeve with a brand new game inside.

How often did you check? I feel like after a year I would have just given up

I've been here before and I'm sympathetic to this as a fellow parent: if you give the big gift early, it's nearly impossible for your kid to not feel disappointed on the actual holiday when they don't have the big present to open. It's not about being spoiled either, its just hard for kids...because they are kids.

You'll still get something for the trade in if the value drops, just less. I'm guessing its probably worth the potential loss.

I apologize for the stupidity, but I just renewed my PUR sub since the $5 monthly cert started. How/when can I use that? I don't see anywhere on the site or app that designates the details.
