Bought Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (w/ Master Quest) and it just arrived today. The listing said everything was LN, but the case was grimy and there was a sticker residue spot with hair and dirt and other gross shit. That's not LN bud. People seriously need to clean their stuff before sending it, especially when you label it as clean.

 
Honestly if you are smart about pricing things I don't see the benefit in auctions anymore (unless the item is rare / one of a kind). Some people are happy to pay more just to get it now than to wait and snipe an auction for the common things, no reason you can't capitalize on their impatience.
Every item in the latest batch of auctions was out of print. One I was only expecting $25-$30 and ended up $96.

Yeah I just looked up the item on your page, that definitely fits the rare category, especially when the cheapest used price on Amazon is $110. I would of put it for $100ish 30 day BIN and see what happens, no fees either way to list or relist. IMO, it's better to guarantee a good price than to chance it at a bidding war and end up getting undervalued. That can certainly go the other way though if you have two very motivated (and blinded) individuals.

Using that item as an example, a recent auction for a Brand New copy only went for $91 with free shipping, compared to other BINs listings that fared much better. Not saying they are always going to get top dollar, but that $91 listing could of sold for more with BIN.

Either way works really, as the auctions guarantee it being sold without having to wait on it, but I don't mind waiting a couple weeks if I have to. I just find myself getting more (with guaranteed payment) by doing some research and BIN.

 
Well, I didn't realize it jumped that high in price. When I bought it, the only sets going for a lot of money were Set 1 (usually around $80) and Set 2 (around $300). I wasn't even planning on selling it, but with Set 2 too expensive and the actual.boxes themselves taking up so much space, I figured I might as well
 
My method of providing feedback to the buyer is to wait until the day the tracking updates as delivered.  My reasoning is that most people are forgetful to leave feedback.  I myself wait to receive my item before giving feedback to my seller.  So by giving the buyer a positive feedback on the day that he receives his game, he may be reminded in providing it to me.  In the end, I want as many positive feedbacks in return since it'll help me out in the long run.

 
I see eBay must have decided they haven't been a pain in seller's sides more than usual as of late so they decided to insitute mandatory photos for anything that's not new now. What a pain...I guess some buyers are too damn stupid to read desciptions, no doubt having grown up on pop-up books. Whatever, I'm sure it will only get worse.

I am actually happy they started doing it this way.. I am a seller and already take photos for most of my items so now I will have less competition because sellers will be lazy and not do it. The sellers might just navigate to half or amazon.

I use a an HP scanner that takes pictures of flat or 3d objects. It makes things a little faster

I imagine a good number of people have smart phones these days. I'm sure they'll just hastily snap pics through their phones. I'm sure that's integrated into the eBay app (I haven't used it myself). Many of the listings I come across anyway seem to be from the eBay app because they have zero description info except for the "Posted from the eBay App" tag or whatever it is.

 
I sell every once in awhile and I always take a picture of my item if it's not brand new and still sealed (from a 4th gen iPod Touch which I transfer to a PC so its not that much work for most people) I hate it when when sellers leave out a photo or use a stock photo on a used item. Yes I can read and understand the description, but a photo helps to mitigate any potential issues with the seller's description before purchase.

 
I've always used pictures, except for brand new sealed items with no defects.  Even then I still like to post pictures of the new items, especially if they are older and less common.

 
I always use pictures too.  I tend to only sell pricier OOP/Rare stuff on eBay so people tend to want proof that you actually have said item and want to see it, even if the picture is not the best.  Helps cut down on questions too.  Stock images I think are only fine if you are like a mass seller just selling new stuff with no real qualms about quality of the items. 

 
I have gotten in the habit of taking pictures, especially since a lot of products no longer have any stock art at all.

And yes, the eBay app has a photo-taking option. You can also upload a previously taken picture.
 
Since eBay lets you post 12 free pictures there should be no excuse for no pictures. I rarely sell on eBay but recently found some old shirts and been selling them. I take plenty of pictures and tell them they are buying a used pre-worn shirt. I can't believe people spend that kind of money on old clothes. To think these shirts almost made it to the Salvation Army.
 
This is strange. I listed a graphics card a few days ago and sold today, the weird thing is I only received 1 dollar and the buyer didnt provide a shipping address with paypal. I used immediate payment required so I'm not sure how my listing ended, it also shows that the buyer has not paid. Is this a new scam? Only thing I noticed I messed up on is where I ship to, on the listing it says I ship international but I clearly stated in the description that I only ship to lower 48 states.
 
I have a strange thing going on, I bought a game, I received it no problem but now the seller is trying to cancel the transaction. Can someone tell me what is going on here and if I should cancel this transaction or decline to cancel?

Perhaps he/she just wants to avoid paying the seller fee for the item?

Imz00 beat me to it. The only reason why they'd want to do that is to skip out of paying the seller fees.

Have any of you ever done this?

 
Not gonna lie, I have thought about doing that. If the item costs enough, I'll usually ask if the buyer is willing to complete the transaction off eBay and offer a discount.

On an unrelated note, I sold a brand new SNES on eBay last week, and get this message today: "[SIZE=10pt]So I have plugged the system in and i do not get a signal from either the AV cables or the RF adapter. I have tried on multiple TV's. The system does not seem to be working.[/SIZE]"

I don't accept returns (even if I did, I still wouldn't accept a return on a brand new item that was opened/used), so this should be interesting. I predict my first eBay case in the near future. If it comes to that, hopefully they refund him without making me pay for it. Worst case scenario, at least the package was fully insured, so I can always try and get my money back from UPS.

 
If your item doesn't work eBay requires you to take returns. No clue why anyone wouldn't guarantee their stuff, thats just shady...

I had the same thing happen to all my auctions last week. I didn't notice until they ended that a ton of countries had been added to my shipping areas. I don't know what caused it, since I just used the relist function, which didn't have the international shipping on it before.

I'd leave none. It's happened to me before and I only consider completed transactions as feedbackable occasions. If they leave me one, fine it's there choice, but when you overstate your stock and cancel my order, there's no reason to give them a pat on the back for refunding my money.

Just put them on your block list, I can see how it could be frustrating. I remember reading that eBay imposes strikes on buyers for doing this but do they actually do anything?

 
Best Offer used to be just where once the seller accepted the buyer's offer, that was it. The buyer was obligated to buy the item.

What do I do? he's already paid.

It's just a $60 item. But I was thinking of doing signature confirmation.

Just email the person that you notice the address is at a hotel and you want to make sure it is correct. Not a big deal really as I send game to hotel before.

It will depend by the specific buyer ultimately but I had a similar experience that I actually sold a dlc code to a company that was listed as some airline.I found it odd that they would buy my item but they simply requested me in the instructions note to write down the item number on the package shipping label. Nothing ever came of it as I had no problems and got my money deposited just fine.i felt safe because I noticed it was a highly active eBay Buyer account because they bought over 50 items in the last month and they received/provided positive feedback to others.

a part of me wonders whether it was somebody that was just abusing a company credit card to fund eBay purchases. the account had over 10,000 purchases. Shrug.

That's what I did. He says that he's in Argentina and his relatives are here. So I shipped it with signature confirmation. Fingers crossed.

 
Ugh. I shipped out a working item and the buyer claimed it no longer worked. He sent pictures illustrating the issue. I gave him a full refund and filed an insurance claim and he is refusing to give them documentation.

He claims to be willing to send it back to me, but I really just don't want to deal with it.

The game didn't come with booklet of instructions and won't play on my xbox.
No contact, no "I'm not happy with this, can I get a refund?" - nothing. And it's pure bullshit anyway. The photos and description should have both made it abundantly clear there was no instruction book included. What do I need to do, write in giant flashing rainbow text? And as for "won't play on my xbox" - sorry but that's a load too. I played the first hour or so of the game and it worked perfectly. I'm sure he's trying to play it on a 360, but even if that's true, I actually linked instructions to get it working on 360 in my description!

This is just so damn frustrating. Even if I could get ebay to remove the feedback (I already replied to it, a bit more civilly than I'm being here) I'll have to accept a return from this person who I'm not entirely convinced would be capable of mailing a package. Goddamnit.

So the guy ended up opening a case, which I was planning to appeal as soon as I got the item got back. He even left me my first negative feedback, then I get this e-mail from eBay today:

"This case was automatically closed on Aug 09, 2013. The buyer was required to submit information regarding this case, but we didn't hear back. The item won't be returned to you, and the buyer won't be issued a refund. The hold on this PayPal transaction has been removed."

Now I'm tempted to respond to his feedback with something like "Buyer was told to return the item for a refund, yet chose to keep it."

well technically you messed up with your condition. the item should have been under acceptable not good because of the missing manual, so your buyer has a case if he tells ebay that he bought it because it said good for condition.
 
You are absolutely correct. I knew somebody would pick up on that, and it was a stupid mistake. Still I just can't quite fathom the mindset of the buyer who goes "sort by condition, ignore pictures and description, click buy it now". Anyway, it's a new day and I'm over it now. Just have to do better in the future.

My question would be who buys a brand new snes and then opens it and try and play it? That shit goes up for display and you buy a used one for $50 for playing games.

Someone (such as myself) who is too OCD to buy/play used stuff. Also, I wonder if I could have eBay remove the negative feedback because the buyer never responded to the case. Seems like it's worth a shot.

What type of insurance was it? The one that eBay offers? or through USPS?

If it's the one that eBay offers, you should have called eBay BEFORE sending the refund.. Long ago when I used a 3rd party insurance (eBay didn't offer anything back then), the buyer wouldn't send me the signed documents..so I called eBay and they froze the case. Contacted the buyer and told him that until he gave me what I wanted, he'd be unable to get the refund.

All you need is a CSR willing to take the extra step for you.

Now that you've already refunded him you've lost that bargaining chip. Call eBay anyway, and see what they have to say.

Contact eBay. Tell them that the buyer made unreasonable demands and that you want the neg removed. If one CSR doesn't seem willing to do it, hang up and call again. Get that neg removed.

And don't leave a response for now. Let's see if eBay removes it for you.

In your case, I would have contacted the buyer... Newbies are fast on the draw with negs. Contact him.. Offer him a partial refund, and tell him that you want him to remove the neg and then send him a change feedback form.

Google the address. If it's in a warehouse it is a ship center that reroutes packages oversees.

Not sure. I have shipped to a guy named Luke Skywalker and Stewie Griffin with no problem. It's one of those don't want to use my real name things I guess.

Of course he is new. so be cautious.

 
Thanks guys. I mailed it this morning with insurance just in case. Luke Skywalker, Stewie Griffen, Harley Davidson..no, nothing suspicious at all.

Is it helping you or the buyer? I might be shipping something way more expensive and prone to incidents so I am considering purchasing insurance if the time comes but not sure if it's benefitting me or the buyer if something happens.

It's benefiting you. A lot of sellers think (and mention in their listings) that the buyer needs to pay more for insurance etc.

But the buyer doesn't need to do squat. The seller is responsible for getting the package to the buyer.

If it's not delivered, the buyer files a INR case, and gets his money back.

When selling, you'll get two options for insurance (when purchasing the shipping label). eBay's insurance and USPS insurance.

I always pick USPS.

I'm not too sure if eBay's insurance works the same as other third party insurances, but if they do, then you'd have to get signed acknowledgement from the buyer that the item was lost/not delivered/damaged etc...and more often than not, buyers are not willing to do this.

So I choose USPS. The buyer doesn't need to do anything. You refund the buyer asap, to prevent getting a neg.

Then file the case with USPS. They will first search for the package, then when they can't find it, they'll pay you.

I've filed a case three times, and gotten paid each time.

Well it's usually easier to prove lost than damaged, because with lost, it's self-proving with the tracking not being updated.

With damaged items, the RECEIVER can take the box to the PO, or ship it back to you, and you can take it to the PO.

 
Got this gem in my eBay inbox today:

"hi im wanting to buy this but I don't have any money on my card if I did I would have bought it already is there any way I can buy it now and pay when I get money back on my card 9should be long but idk if I can in a day)"

Over 50 positive feedback as a buyer.

There are so many things wrong with the message, and I suppose he or she might be able to do that Bill Me Later thing PayPal is always trying to hook people on, but still... I'm tempted to just add them to my blocked buyer list.
