The General eBay Rant Thread

eBay AND Paypal customer service can be pretty stupid at times.  I'm wondering if their outsourced CS reps handle other companies like I've heard how other call centers work.  I had to refund a buyer that was out of the refund period (i.e. more than 60 days - story is way too long and nothing worth mentioning) and I needed help from the eBay rep to cancel my transaction since the cancellation period is 30 days.  Basically she couldn't cancel it even though I explained to her that's why I was calling in the first place.  I requested a manual credit to my account fees and after several attempts through the Resolution Center she finally understood that my suggestion was the only way to get it to work.  My God ...I said that in the very first 30 seconds ...

Paypal rep asked me to just address  the refund by gifting the payment back to the buyer.  Uh what? I said I needed proof of original refund or else I wasn't going to get my eBay FVF manually credited.   Had to get transferred to an "account specialist" which was basically an American CS rep back in the states.  She had to open a buyer resolution case which was super annoying because I bet that dings my Paypal account but it finally got done.  Both CS reps from eBay and Paypal were from India.  Yay.

Anywho, with my rant aside the Paypal account specialist noted my observations after this whole ordeal and agreed that some of my suggestions made more sense.  For example, I said it doesn't make sense for Paypal to only allow refunds to be processed manually by the seller 60 days from the transaction date if they recently opened up chargeback claims for up to six months now.  Policies should mirror each other to be more consistent.  Same for eBay.  I should be allowed to cancel a transaction if it goes beyond 30 days.  A preorder transaction would be a good example that shouldn't need CS intervention to get my FVF credited.  Long story short, the American Paypal CS rep told me that since Paypal was breaking off from eBay, "there may be more changes under Paypal in the future.  We are actually reviewing everything now.  Nothing is off the table as to changes."

How long do you guys usually wait before opening a case on ebay? I ordered 2 SSD's but I only got 1. I sent the seller a message but I haven't heard back yet.

I bought 2 ds games (cartridge only), and when I got them 1 of them didn't work. After contacting the buyer and eventually opening up a case, ebay issued be a courtesy refund. That was a week ago and after wiping the cartridge contacts with my finger it worked. The contacts didn't even look dirty and I had originally tested it in 2 consoles.

That's why I make sure to thoroughly clean every cartridge i sell. Even if it looks clean.

Well this is just so damn fucking great! I cannot access any regular features on eBay mobile anymore. Trying to go to any page other than the Watching page automatically redirects you to the mobile site, which is fucking useless! I can't print off any shipping labels this way. I only have a desktop computer, and my printer is wireless only, so the only way I can print is by using my phone. But now I can't even do that! fucking eBay!
Just invest in a dongle for your desktop so you can wirelessly network with your phone and printer. They don't cost much. You can probably pick up a simple used one pretty cheap.

Looks like I was correct about the buyer with the NASCAR game....

I called support and told them the guy was trying to hustle me for the game AND his money by saying it arrived damaged, I know it didn't just get the disc cracked randomly for no reason. They said to me to just issue him the refund and have him send it back so instead of taking a complete loss on the item I just offered the guy $25 of the $48 he paid and he took it.....I mean come on man. What a dick. I only paid $3 for it so it is still profit but really dishonest of the buyer.

After 50 sales or so, I finally got hit by a seller who decided he didn't want the item anymore. Ugh I just approved the request. Not worth arguing about it. Just in case though, if a serial number doesn't match on the return is there anything I can do? I did take photos of the serial number but not sure if anything can be done. Also, can I charge a restocking fee if I specified one on the listing?

Don't be so passive next time. When discussing the refund with the buyer say something like:

Dear buyer, I'm sorry you are not satisfied with your item. As a courtesy I am willing to accept a return in exchange for a full refund. My records show that you received item with serial number: "xxxxxxxx". In order to receive a refund you will need to return the item with the same serial number along with all other accessories, manuals, box, etc.

I have had buyers ask for refunds dozens of times but as soon as I get out ahead of it they almost always go away unless there really was a problem with the item

YMMV but I ran into similar problems a few years ago when selling heavily overseas. I would have buyers be patient and wait two months for an item to arrive and then another few weeks while we followed the protocols of my insurance company. Once that was complete I was unable to manually issue refund since it had been more then 45 days. I would then have to send a "payment" to the buyer as a refund and account for the 2.9% (domestic) / 3.9% (international) PayPal fees [this was as an act of good faith on my account and just how I chose to do business].

At some point I called PP and complained and they tinkered with my account and now I have 180 days after I've received a payment to manually issue a refund (see below):

Total amount:

$38.98 USD

Fee amount:

-$1.66 USD

Net amount:

$37.32 USD

Issue a refund

You have up to 180 days to refund the payment.

I still have to manually call eBay to get a FVF credit if it's been longer then whatever their window is (I can't remember if it's 30 days, 45 days or 60 days)

Thanks. I went ahead and sent them a similar message since they barely requested the return this morning so doubtful they already shipped it back. I usually put the serial numbers in the packing slip also. Don't know if it's a good or bad idea to be doing so. Thanks again.

Is the original Kinect Sports worth something brand new? This one here?

I thought I saw high prices a few days ago on eBay, so I bought one from a store and now I see that they're selling for almost nothing. Was I just seeing things or something? I swear I wasn't drunk or on any kind of substances.

Yeah, it's 30 days. If Paypal goes through with some of their changes I'm hearing about, hopefully they make lives easier for sellers.

I just checked and they seem to only sell for $8-10 new on eBay.

So here's an interesting situation. I was buying some Club Nintendo codes to boost me up so I could snag the Majora puzzle. Naive me forgot ebay is full of scumbags among legit sellers, and there are these listings for Wii Mini (yeah, remember those? no one does) regestration codes for 100 coins. Sweet! I thought and grabbed one for 3 bucks. I get the email and register it (haven't paid yet) and lo and behold Nintendo has caught on to this scam I didn't know about.

So it registered but I didn't get any coins and have an unpaid item on my account. I emailed the seller what happened and said I wasn't paying. How do I get this item off of my account if it has been marked as "Shipped"? Can't say I haven't received it and it wouldn't let me open a case because I haven't paid and for the same reason "the payment method that you used isn't covered in the seller's return policy". What are my options against this b/s?

You could pay and open a case, but if it was me I just wouldn't pay. Having in a single unpaid item is not a big deal.

I had someone buy 2 games and they have an APO address in Afghanistan. When I try to print the label it says that this address cannot be found in this city, and the buyer hasn't responded back to me about correcting it.

Here's how the address looks:

Sellers Name
A Co 3rd BN 187th IN
Bagram, Afghanistan
APO, AE 09354
APO/FPO

Do you think I could go into the Post Office and buy postage there and maybe it will go through and he will get it?

You'll need to go into the Post Office. You'll also need to fill out a customs form. Postage costs should be the same as sending within the US though.

Ok, weirdest farking thing I've ever had happened to me on ebay happened today. I got an e-mail for an open case, I think great, someone is trying to hassle me about something I've sold. So I load up my account, and see that something was listed and sold on my account for almost 4 grand? Now the person it was sold to is claiming non receipt of their item?

So I call ebay and tell them that clearly someone has gained access to my account and is running some kind of scam. The e-mail address used to setup the transaction isn't anything I recognize, and no transaction for 4k has ever cleared my PayPal account. But still, the person I spoke to said that the transaction was initiated from my IP address? So long story short, they cancelled the transaction, and put a hold on my eBay account until I could change my password. I went through the dispute and just selected the option to return the money, since the person I spoke to from eBay assured me that what ever account the money went to is the same one that would be getting the chargeback.

Anyone else have this happen to them? Only think I could think of is that I got some very strange Malware taking over my computer, but the only computer I use at home is an Apple, and that seems very unlikely. I'm just hoping the person at eBay wasn't full of shit and I end up with a chargeback on MY Paypal account for 4k.

What a headache. I sell an item to someone from Canada. It's a Rocketfish Wii U HDMI cable. It ships with the Global Seller thing. So after the person buys it, I try to send an invoice. eBay won't let me. It says the item is a part of the Global thing and that I cannot send an invoice because of that. What bullshit. Fine. So I try to print out a shipping label so I can at least see where I'm shipping to. eBay won't let me. The person hasn't paid yet, so I cannot go to the Print Shipping Label page. So I tell the seller to just forget about the invoice and just pay for the item. The seller is telling me eBay is charging him $15 for shipping and that price was not what I agreed on with the seller.

I swear, I am this close to closing my eBay account and telling eBay to go screw themselves. This is neither my fault, nor the buyer's fault, but eBay and their shitty system's fault.

If you use the Global Shipping Program then the buyer pays shipping, import, etc. directly to eBay. How did you agree on a shipping cost if you were using the GSP? If you want to just ship it yourself then you can opt out of it and just do your own international shipping down at the post office (you'd have to cancel this sale and make a new one clicking that you won't use GSP).

I will be honest - the GSP has worked perfectly for me. I've shipped out probably 150 or so things since it rolled out and haven't had an issue yet (knock on wood). One thing even got banged up in shipping and I was not responsible at all. Buyer uploaded pics to the eBay case. I responded saying I agreed that it was damaged but I am not responsible. Case was closed, buyer got their refund (and kept the item - the outside of a limited edition box was banged up) and I didn't have to deal with anything.

I know I've read eBay charges a lot for the service to the buyer, but honestly that doesn't bother me and it isn't my problem. The buyer sees what it is going to cost before he purchases it. I would almost never do international shipping because I didn't want to bother with custom forms, people asking me to declare as gifts/worth $10, etc., so this takes all the hassle out of it for me and I don't worry about any of that.

I can tell you that it's not eBay's fault here.

What's up with multiple people referring to their buyers as "sellers" in this thread?

Not really a rant, but just sold something for 3 grand and found out the hard way that the FVF is no longer capped at $250 per item. :(

Paypal and eBay say we're not supposed to ship to just a PO Box, but I've sold an item to a buyer and he's just got a PO Box as his address with no actual address. It looks like this.

Name

PO Box 160
Burgin, KY 40310
United States

eBay is allowing me to purchase the label. Is it okay?

They say that?

All the items I buy from eBay are sent to my PO Box. Simpler and more secure than shipping to my house.

I'm not sure how many of you ship internationally (directly; not including global shipping sales) but every once in awhile I'll mail something and then months later (usually anywhere from 4-12) it'll get returned to me without any notice from the buyer.

Typically they are just low value items but today I had a Advanced Warfare X1 Bundle come back from Brazil after almost 4 months. The buyer hasn't communicated with me and when I look at his eBay history the transaction with me was his last.

In similar situations like this when a buyer gives me a heads up that the item is coming back I always refund upon receiving and inspecting the item (minus original shipping costs). The biggest reasons the items are returned is because buyers in other countries are unaware of how high VAT (import taxes) are and sometimes they can be as much if not more then the items themselves---therefore they just refuse the package when it is time to pick it up.

When I run the tracking number in Brazil's postal system (correios.br) it notes that the buyer refused to pick the item up. It was sent by Express Mail International and it's been more then a month since he refused it.

Part of me knows I should reach out to the buyer but it always frustrates me when a buyer knowingly doesn't pick up an item. I haven't opened the console but the packaging itself is in rough condition from the long travel so I'd never be able to resell it anywhere near what it originally sold for and it's too late to get my FVF back on that transaction.

When it comes to selling on eBay I'm very "by the book" but now I'm having a moral dilemma

Did it fall under the 90 or 180 day return thing? If it was 90 (since you said 4 months), I don't think you'd have to refund him.

The sale took place the first week of November. I'm not sure if the Holiday return period started but regardless if he had or does reach out I'll certainly refund minus shipping costs (not my fault he didn't claim the item) and probably minus FVF as well.

My moral dilemma is if I should reach out...

If he does reach out, I'd charge like a 20% restocking fee, especially since the packaging is damaged. If he doesn't, then I wouldn't do anything.

I wouldn't do anything about it. I run into bad experiences when I reach out to a silent buyer. If he doesn't ask you about a refund, I just don't see him asking you about it again past 6 months. Especially for something that expensive. He would have done it by now.

I ordered 2 SSD's from this guy on ebay. When I received my package I only had 1 in the box. I contacted the seller and he admitted that they made a mistake and asked if I wanted a refund or the drive. I said I still wanted the drive and a week goes by with no contact from the seller. I then asked ebay to step in and they sided with the seller because he provided tracking for the original drive despite admitting in the case details that he only sent 1. Am I screwed? This is such BS

So I was looking around on Ebay and this listing came up (Sorry if its already been posted)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CONTRA-NES-Nintendo-Entertainment-System-KONAMI-VERY-CLEAN-/261785894875?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf3a7bfdb

Then I go to their other listings and most of them have a woman holding the games. Is this like a selling tacit? It must be working considering they have over 100 followers.
I guess its a selling tactic.

Last week I saw a listing for a unopened, New 3DS XL Majora's Mask console with some smiling, topless dude rubbing it all over his body. The auction also stated that if the final sale was over $500 that he would send even more pictures. I just LOLed. At least the dude wasn't out of shape.

Did you file a SNAD claim? (Significantly Not As Described). Next may be a claim with Paypal, if that's how you paid.

Boobs are a funny thing. Some guys are just hypnotized by them, which I'm sure is the angle here. Kind of a Jedi mind trick.
The toilet roll and wooden spoon thread was an all timer here. I felt so bad for the girl. You all ganged up on her. She was just a good person :cold:

I called ebay and they walked me through opening another case. Should have just bought from newegg. A month for a hard drive is ridiculous

Ha I think I saw that when I was browsing to see how much these were going for. I was starting to confirm the pattern that these were not being sold by large sellers but by smaller ebayers looking to turn a quick buck lol. So douchey, get a hobby that improves your quality as a human being and doesn't scalp others hard earned cash.

Quick question, What happens if the item you are shipping weighs slightly more than what's printed on the shipping label? I added some extra tape and it seems to have put it over by an eighth of an ounce.

I have shipped to PO Boxes several times with no problem
Thanks guys. I must be losing my mind. But I could have sworn that it was somewhere in eBay's rules that shipping to just a PO box was not okay. Anyway, I shipped it a few days ago.

Depends on your post office clerk, but the only time it really seems to create a problem is if it changes the shipping class. Like if your package is 13.1 oz and the label is only for 13 oz First-Class, the .1 oz would technically bump it up to Priority/Parcel Post. But YMMV.

Most likely nothing...

but if it is audited then when the item gets to the buyer it will arrive "postage due" and they will need to go to the post office and pay for the missing postage before are allowed to pick up the parcel.

With millions of packaging being handled daily it is doubtful a small miscalculation like that will be noticed but you never know. I've had packages come postage due before for $.19 (the cost of a FC package being off by an ounce) and ~ $.35 (the rough price difference between Priority Flat Rate Envelope and Priority Padded Flat Rate Envelope when someone selected the wrong choice).

Would anyone on here sell a super rare and expensive item on ebay? Hypthetically, say you got a super rare game. One of those "Only 10 in the world!" gems. Like super rare that would sell for say 40k or something.

With Paypal's massive return policy now, would ebay and Paypal handle that like any normal case if the buyer was a jackass and tried to return it in a month after spending 40k?
