The Guild Wars/2 Topic *Its Out All the Way Now!*

Yes I got hacked like two months ago by stupid China farmers, I looked up the freakin' IP. ALL my passwords are changed now, storage was wiped clean. >

Yea, I was also hacked, but they seem to have left everything alone except a few items from storage and the gold from the characters/storage. I don't even know what the items were, but I know it wasn't anything of value. I only had 20k at most across my account so that didn't bother me at all.

Just the idea of getting hacked sucks.

Reading stories about people who have had characters with obsidian armor stripped naked, (probably getting sold for that extra bit of gold or salvaged for a few ecto/shards), makes me feel lucky.

I'm not sure when it happened to me, some time inbetween the Halloween Event and now.

Sorry to hear that.

I learned years ago to change my passwords every Friday for all things online.

Everything seems to be in it's place on my account. Although I'll probably change my password just in case. Too bad the money in storage bank doesn't garner interest.

I've been seeing a lot of the "I've been hacked threads" on the gw forums. I've gotten a little nervous, but I haven't been hacked. (knocks on wood) I also don't have much of value to steal. I'm a noob at guild wars =/.

Anyone else see this?

Dhuum, god of death, is now cutting doen botters.

Guild Wars Design Director James Phinney:

Today we terminated more than 3,700 accounts for botting and match manipulation. In cases where guilds were found to be involved in these activities, the guilds were also disbanded. More than a dozen such guilds were disbanded and many others are under continued investigation. Today’s actions are significant not simply because of their immediate impact but also because they represent a new era in enforcement for us.

As many of you know, Guild Wars has seen a significant increase in the number and sophistication of bots in recent months. Particularly visible were new types of bots used in PvP. As with any hacks or exploits, our primary concern is the potential negative impact on the experience of other players. To a varying degree, cheaters hurt other players by inflating the economy, devaluing hard-earned accomplishments, or annoying everyone with RMT chat spam to sell gold gained through botting, but cheating in PvP is especially odious because it so directly affects the play experience of others.

Read up on the War in Kryta and it looks interesting. Haven't played in awhile but I might give that a whirl with my Warrior. It looks like it could give good XP to my Survivor but I have to get her through EotN/Zinn's Task first, and I'm not confident in accomplishing either without dying.

I havent played GW in like 3 years or so. I quit playing because my guild kinda sucked and noone was ever online. It was fun for a few lans we had though.

Yeah if you have a guild that's actually active and fairly competent (rarity these days) this game is ultra fun.

I got my account back from like 2006 today. Gotta play through all 3 expansions still. Is it going to be easy for me to play with people or will I mostly be using henchmen?

If you're playing PvE, depending on what area you're in and what you're doing... if it's something simple, I normally put support skills on the hero henchies with 1 or 2 attacks (unless it's a Monk or Ritualist, then all support skills) and roll out and dominate with my Warrior or Ranger.

You don't want TOO much support though because then you're going to be weak if you come up against a group with several healers.

Too many people try to solo everything so they toss self-heals on warriors and such .. trust your monks, protect them; then go out and bash some shit in. If you're playing as a melee character, Frenzy is your best friend (provided you know how to use it).

Do people even play GW1 anymore? It seems like its neglected these days from what I can see.

P.S. I never even noticed this thread and its been here for 5 years!?

Yeah I checked it out and apparently it's what you dedicate in the Hall of Monuments which with my pets I never dedicated them because I wanted to use them in the game. Well doesn't really freakin' matter anymore since I got everything stolen on my account months ago.

I seriously cannot wait for this release..seeing everything updated and such is getting me really excited. I cannot wait for them to reveal the final two classes; the game looks great so far.

well don't get too excited. its still at least a year away from release. the guild wars beyond stuff is a ways to go as well. we haven't even gotten to canthan content yet let alone elona and its taken them forever to do war in kryta/hearts of the north. also, i think theres 3 more classes to reveal. popular opinion says it'll be a gunner, a mesmer, and an assassin. mesmers exist in gw2 for sure since the queen in one of the gw books is a mesmer. whether or not they'll be a player class is yet to be seen.

The fact that the sequel is taking so long has really pushed me away from even thinking about purchasing GW2 anymore, and that's sad. I wasted so much time on this game.

I think the fact that I've been waiting for 4 years now for information and a release, a year or two would seem almost like nothing for me. Releasing information is good enough for me right now.

yea for me its always been about which hits first, diablo 3 or gw2. if enough time passes between their releases maybe i could hit up both, but i have a bad feeling that they're gonna be released around the same timeframe, and thats probably no accident.

Does anyone still play the first game? I'm thinking about starting again since I bought it and never played, but don't have any friends who play Guild Wars.

I might go back and play GW1 at some point this year. I loved the game and played it a decent amount but never beat even the 1st expansion (Factions was it?). I watched the videos that came out of GDC for GW2 and I have to say it looks awesome. It looks like it will be different enough to play alongside another MMO, plus no monthly fee will help that too. I wonder if it will make it out before or after The Old Republic, the only other MMO I care about right now.

Obviously GW2 looks amazing, but the lack of information is just making it evacuate my brain for a while. When new info comes out I check it out, but I'll anticipate the game more when its actually close to being here.

There's a demo scheduled to be shown at some ComicCon or some PAX event I think, it's going on either this week or this weekend -- I'm really too damn lazy to even check, but there should be some information floating around about GW2 and more gameplay videos being shown at anytime this week.

It'll be out after Republic, that's for sure. I really like the dynamic events, also the fighting while dead, or close to blacking out, is a nice added feature.

I hope they actually add it sometime later. I probably wouldn't play it, but it seems like a pretty cool job to have. Something new from all the usual classes.

there is actually a quest that let's you play as a commando in the game.

your skills change and you've got a boss to fight.

I'm guessing it's only for today though, so better get to it!

Going to download a trial of this tonight and see how it goes, does anyone know if this game is soloable or if not if the community is active enough in the lower level stages of the game to find a group?

Yes that's one of Guild War's highest pluses, the ability to solo with henchmen. There are a few missions that you'll probably need people to do them but ArenaNet has added controllable and customizable abilities of henchmen so you might be able to micro well in the missions that henchman had trouble before. In fact I played most of Guild Wars solo while still chatting with my guild through guild chat.

You could most definitely play through the whole game single-player only. The game is, however, still active enough if you do need any help.

New class looks dumb as hell. Its like that fucking commando. Up till now I thought they had handled the new technology of guns fairly well. Watching those skill trailers for the engineer completely fucks that up. Also, seeing that batmobile and a god damn tank in the background has me seriously worried. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere of Guild Wars. There was some technology like in Sorrow's Furnace and the massive things in the Jade Sea, but it blended well. This looks like its pulling a Fable 1 -> Fable 2/3 which also completely ruined that series for me.

Depressing : (

The fact that they have taken this long to finish up GW2 (and in the process, it seems like they are fucking it up) has pretty much guaranteed that they have lost a lot of potential customers.

Can I pull a Diablo 3?

Blizzard is taking nearly as long ....

The engineer is definately WTF... but I don't think it has ruined it yet. I worry that it'll slow the gameplay motion by constantly laying traps, and turrets.

Blizzard is also well established. ArenaNet pretty much has the Guild Wars juggernaut and... what? Aion? LOL.

I loaded up GW for the first time in years since these GW2 class videos got me all jazzed. Needless to say, I'm lost and not real interested in re-learning everything. I also found out I need Eye of the North to earn stuff for GW2...

Oh well, hope theres a beta soon.

Arenanet is pratically #2 in the MMO gauntlet and making the hottest thing since sliced bread... and .... well

if you want to make a silly claim that ArenaNet made Aion, which they didn't like egg on face... uhm fail?

NCSoft is the publisher, which covers plenty of other games, like yes Aion... but ArenaNet never laid a coding Finger on that...

But sure... since they only made one game... sure... we'll give you that... Blizzard had to start somewhere too.
