The Guild Wars/2 Topic *Its Out All the Way Now!*

I see Amazon has the CE listed on the site but it's OOS. Has it ever actually been in stock? I was under the assumption they weren't going to be selling the CE at all.

it was probably just a place holder, but Arenanet said they are trying to work with Amazon about that. who knows though... I wonder how many CE's were made....

I know I'll be picking up mine bright an early. I had to order from GS

The GW2 CE is up for preorder at Amazon, I just grabbed mine.

So when buying a retail game how does the early access work exactly? After the 3 days of early access are up (from your preorder code) do you need to put in a code from your retail box when you get it or can you just keep playing the game? I'm asking because Amazon doesn't have release date delivery for this yet so if it doesn't come until 2 days after launch will I not be able to play the game until my retail box arrives?

you might have gotten a code from amazon... unsure, if they are treating this like a pre-purchase, then you'll get the 3 days.

but I think all users will get 3 days after to put in a code... unsure, I'll look it up

It's five days, so you get till Saturday then. Yippie

Yeah I saw that it's a five day grace period which will be good enough for anyone getting the game from Amazon (that has Prime shipping at least) so I should be all set.

Reminder that BWE #3 starts tomorrow! I just updated the client for the first time in like 2 weeks, and it downloaded ~40,000 new files.

Please note that the Gem store will be working and you will be charged for Gem purchases!
During the beta weekend, we’ll test our secure Gem Store billing system in a live environment, which means you can purchase gems with your credit card or through PayPal.

As we mentioned earlier, we’re wiping all our beta data before launch—including items purchased this weekend—but we’ll keep a record of how many gems you’ve purchased during beta events. When Guild Wars 2 launches on August 28, you’ll receive those gems back on your account.

thats interesting. wonder if they will still have the deal they've been running where you get a shit load for cheap as a thank you to the beta testers.

Just pre-ordered for the beta weekend.
Psyched to try this game out.

For those who have played in previous betas, which classes are you liking most?
Usually I go with the mage type, so elementalist here. But the necromancer and mesmer classes look interesting too.

Sadly my laptop deal fell through, so I will not be participating in this beta event. Very disappointed.

Hoping to have one lined up by August 25th. It is my destiny. ;)

Have fun you guys!

Before actually playing I thought I'd be an elementalist, but I really don't like how they play (apart from the dagger skills which are fun but not very effective). I tried mesmer and their control scheme is fairly complicated compared to the other classes with the exception of the engineer and shares very little in common with what I expect from a mesmer (having played gw1 to death) so that turned me off as well. I have not tried a necromancer but my friend who loved the necro from gw1 hate it (mainly because it can't use a greatsword, lol).

I personally thought the engineer was stupid and ruined the game's feel before playing it. Now I think its one of the best classes though it does take a little more work than the others to play it correctly/effectively. I'll probably be making an engineer as my main character once the game goes live.

The warrior is ok though a little boring. Greatsword/longbow absolutely destroys PvE.

Ranger is like a warrior except more interesting to play as (moves have more effects and movement options, have a pet that you don't have to babysit).

This weekend I want to play my thief some more I had fun the short while I tried him. I suspect this will be tied for engineer as my favorite.

Guardian does not interest me at all. The entire feel of the class is not for me.
I see, so Gems are pretty useless for the most part unless you just have money to spend.
not exactly.

there are a few things like more character slots and larger storage pools for your Bank and your character.

I am not quite sure if storage for your character would ever grow beyond, in game, the 4 slots, but you can get up to 7.

Bank you can almost double in size.

i think storage will be the first purchase.... I really hated juggling in the first one.

Been playing more of the beta. So far played only thief and engineer at length. Currently trying mesmer and am loving it more than the other two. Specifically, mesmer with two-hand sword (I know, a little ridiculous). I just don't like how the skills are setup for thief and engineer, especially the skills that involve manual aiming with the mouse. To me, the controls of the game feel a little clunky. I had to bind the skill also to the numpad, however it still feels a little clunky, especially the skills on the right side of the skillbar (6-0). Maybe I just need more time to get used to keyboard layout. But I don't quite remember controls being this troublesome for me in Guild Wars 1. Though it's been a while since I played that series.

If you don't game at least occasionally the controls will feel a bit awkward at first - even movement will - but once you get used to it (accurately) spamming attacks like a maniac isn't that difficult.

That's the thing, I've played Guild Wars 1 at length for hours back in the day. Movement is fine, but the fact that the heal skill and class skils are 6-0 keys is a little weird. It's a bit of a stretch to hit those keys. I remember back in GW1 my important skils (i.e. heal, elite, etc.) would be one of the first skills on the slot so that they were easy to get to. Now, with movement being especially useful, trying to maneuver and hit those 6-0 keys doesn't feel optimized.

Yeah I think you just need to get used to it. I moused to a lot of skills most of the time in the beta but I have a feeling I'll need to speed things up a bit and hit the number keys in the full game. I doubt I could get away with slowly mousing to targets and skills at higher levels.

So what do you guys think about a CAG guild?

I play with a group of 5 friends usually and we have our own little mini-guild for just us, but with the ability to join multiple guilds and pick the one you represent, a CAG guild might be nice for people in a similar situation to pool their resources into a large guild instead of a little one.

When Guild Wars launched I started a CAG Guild but most people stopped playing after a month or two leaving the "online" list almost completely empty. The active members ended up joining other Guilds pretty quickly meaning all the resources put into it went to waste (sigils weren't cheap back then!). People will be reluctant to contribute their influence to something if it ends up going to waste. Theres also the issue of only having a few people actively posting in this thread, CAG's PC community is laughable to begin with and fewer still seem to be interested in Guild Wars.

So, again, what do you guys think?

In my honest opinion, CAG is way too casual and you'd end up with a lot of droolers in the ranks. I'd never use this site as a recruitment tool, but that's because we're elitists and PKs. From the shit you talk, it sounds like you're of the same mentality (or at least talk the talk) so I'd stick to recruiting ingame.

Honestly, I think the game will be a waste anyway because it sounds like a lot of the same ideas that have been tried in the past, but ended up just being another loot grind with PvP tacked on. If you want real meaning in an MMO again, these developers need to give players control back again. No more carebear guards in towns, no more safe zones, no more battlezones, etc. To grow a real community, you need to make alliances and have real risk in the game. The closest risk I've heard of in this game is building up a keep for influence points or some nonsense and having a rival guild come and destroy it. Doubtful it's anything like what you lost if that happened in a game like Shadowbane, though.

Losing a keep in that game usually brought down the entire guild and THAT'S a game worth playing.

Its true of me in many games, but Guild Wars is my carebear game. A CAG guild would be more to have people to explore/do missions with. People showing each other how to get to hard to reach spots, help with skill challenges etc.

This could all be accomplished via friend list but a guild chat channel would make it easier to organize multiple people.

PvP could happen on an extremely casual basis if something foolproof comes along (such as flareway) but I don't have high hopes. I'm personally not very interested in organized PvP in general anyway.

I think the biggest opposition to the guild right now is not having enough members to make it worth it.

Ah, word. I was interested in GW2 until pandas was announced for just a month later and sadly it's the most polished turd out there that still has some good world PvP when new expansions launch. That first month when people are leveling is just insane and while GW2 will probably be the same, I'd rather go with the more established game for less.

Like you said in your post. It might be better off to keep it to your friends list. Knowing CAG, a game's multiplayer life cycle is about 2-4 weeks. CAGs don't usually stick to games. And considering how slow the PC forum is, it makes it even worse. Look at the steam thread(s). They only frequent the deals forum thread and all the other Steam threads are slow to a crawl. Even the CAG steam group, maybe like 5% of the CAGs are playing a game, all the rest are idle or offline.

Yeah lol, the Steam thread is crazy active with people who are only interested in growing a collection of games they never play and posting how amazing it is. The Valve kool-aid is pretty strong around here. I've had to start buying PC games on console just so I can avoid using Steamworks DRM and physically own my game again.

A CAG guild would work but you're only going to have less than 10 people in it that might be relatively dedicated to the game. This thread is pretty slow as far as new people discussing it (we usually have the same relatively small group talking about it) and the number of people interested in the game will even outnumber people who want to join a CAG guild.

If you don't mind recruiting only 5-6 people in addition to whatever RL friends you may have, then make one and do as well as you can with a tiny ragtag group.

I mean, I know for sure that I'm going to play this game. But trying to find others besides your IRL friends that will actually say they will keep playing a game is nigh impossible.

So is there a "best" place to pick this up? I'm about ready to get my pre-order in and want to get the most bang for my buck. :)

EDIT: Snagged the Digital Deluxe Edition for $63.xx on GMG. Seems likely to be the best price to be had before launch.

Is there any way to successfully tell if I've linked my GW and GW2 accounts? I tried checking my NCSoft master account, but after a bit of research, it appears that it has absolutely zero to do with GW2 and was strictly for the first.

Theres a HoM achievement for it, though I'm not sure if it actually works yet. When the HoM first came out everybody automatically got credit for that one.

Heres a post from GWGuru but it may or may not be the same at release:
From what the devs tell us, "Declaring your ancestor" to receive the Hall of Monuments rewards simply means linking your Guild Wars 2 game account with your Guild wars 1 game account, when Guild Wars 2 is released. You will be able to link a single Guild Wars 1 game account to your Guild Wars 2 game account, via a Guild Wars 2 in-game item. By using that item in Guild Wars 2, you'll be able to visit an instanced version of the Hall of Monuments where you can claim your rewards. You'll be able to do this on any Guild Wars 2 character that you want, as many times as you want. Whatever rewards you receive cannot be traded or sold.
With that system, I'm not sure whats stopping someone from entering someone else's name and taking credit for their stuff, but maybe you'll have to enter username+pass instead of character name.

For the beta, we linked it back to our original GW1 account. I'm guessing it'll be the same when it's live.

Speaking of HoM, I recently got back on GW1 to try to get more points in HoM. Currently stuck at 22 points, but I can probably earn like 3-4 more points if I get more gold.

I'm disappointed my only farming build, the 55hp Monk, doesn't work anymore in the Crystal Desert. I noticed there's a newer 55hp Necro build, but it looked like such a pain to do the quests to get the missing skills.

So my current only option is to sell...and boy did I forget how much I hate trying to buy and sell things...nothing but a trade channel spam fest and waiting forever just to find a buyer/seller! Soooo glad this wont happen in GW2!

Anyhow, does anyone by chance know the current value/price of these items:
Undedicated Kuunavang Dragon
Dedicated Kuunavang Dragon
Undedicated Polar Bear
Undedicated Panda
Dedicated Panda
Hero Armors
Destroyer/Tormented/Opressor Weapons

Guru prices are outdated and most people ingame give me lots of bs prices (on the minis). Thanks

I like to use this site for price checks: http://argos-soft.net/GwEstimator/

Only made it to 10 points on my HoM after legit getting into the game for the first time earlier this and think that may be good enough for now, haven't had the free time lately to grind up to 30 like I was hoping and market prices are only going to get worse for the required items.

on one hand it sucks that some of those take so long to grind and so many resources.

on the other its supposed to be a reward for those og's who stuck with the game all these years so its nice that they let you get any points at all.

I'm personally sitting at exactly 30 points, with a few easy ones I could do, but the thing is I didn't have to grind, I got most of them just from playing the game. Over a very long period of time, granted.

Thanks for that link, it'll definitely come in handy.

I've been playing since 2006, but over the years I've played less and less. Right now I don't have a lot of time to seriously play/farm all these items (Vabbian/Obsidian Armor items & HoM Weapons), and would rather just sell some of the rarer minis from my collection to diretly buy them instead.

this is too exciting :)!

I'm not even sure what profession I'll be. Human and Slyvari will be my mains, but I thoroughly enjoyed every single profession during the betas.

I'm trying to get the last three points in my HoM to get to 30. Trying to get some last few oppressor weps through the WoK campaign. I hope it will hold me over until the game releases.

Can you send money between characters on the same account? I was curious. I know about the joint bank system, but can you put money in the bank and leave it for another character on the same account? Hmmm

That's the thing, I don't know if the mail system will allow you to send money to another person on the same account. Is money something that you can just pick up and send to others like items? I don't know, and I don't know if anyone does...

I haven't been able to check this out yet, but I don't see why they wouldn't include this. The first game had a universal storage system where anybody on your account could access it. I don't see why this game would be different, even if they use a different method.

i definitely sent money to people in the mail. did so multiple times during the betas. the game gets you used to this early on. every time you fill up a heart you get mail with a money attachment from an npc.

i don't know 100% that you can send it to your other characters since i hadn't tried it, but i'm pretty sure you can/

Ahh just discovered this topic.

Took me two hours but I went from 6 HoM to 15. I never dedicated any of my pets so that was a biggy. Then I finished up the 2 Grotto and 1 Granite Citidel Armor set with what cash and mats I had left. I actually forgot all about the materials tab in storage and wasted a little bit of money crafting and buy some materials. Was at 13 and decided to kill two birds with one stone and bought a Oppressor weapon for 100k (I probably payed too much but it's not like I'll be playing GW1 anymore hehe).

If anyone needs a 2 or 3 pets to fluff up their count please PM me I'd be more than willing to help as I got a lot of duplicate undeds left (veteran CAGs only please, no "fresh" accounts).

That is true about the NPCs, I got a bunch of money-mail from them as well. Wasn't aware about sending it to other people but since you already did it in the beta, I am assuming that you can send money to "yourself" (other characters on same account).
