There will never be anything close to pure free speech for good reason. There are always limits. Traci Lords proved that. Pure free speech would include things that are just abhorrent in society.
 
The FCC has nothing to do with the lack of swearing on TV. The individual stations choose to not air swearing because they don't want to scare away sponsors/investors/conservative america.

Its really quite backwards when you think about it. You have free TV where they damn near show you nekkid people all the time and say just about every profaine word with the exception of fuck or anything with God. (Why is ass ok, but asshole not? :whistle2:s ) Then you have free TV where you have to pay to get it, but it feels more reserved because they don't want to shock/offend you out of service.

Regardless, there is no true free speech. You cannot yell fire in a theatre. You cannot make baseless slanderous claims without financial repercussion.
