The iPod is taking over the world... RUN!

I don't think I will ever get an IPod, I just wouldn't use it enough to make it worth all that money. I can use PSP for an mp3 player when it comes out if I care enough to get music on it.
Especially since you can get an extra 128MB card for only $15.

Believe it or not, you don't need 40GB, "mpeg layer-3 compression" (mp3) makes file sizes very small.
I have over 40 gigs of mp3s, because I rip at 320 cbr.

Exactly, I don't know why people care that it holds 40GB. A few people I know just put some songs on it for the heck of it and never listen to some of the songs. And the 128MB card would be more than enough for me.

I don't need/want anymore space then 5 GB really. I don't plan on carrying my whole music collection around at the same time. I will just carry the songs I actually like. I know most CDs I have that is just one or two songs. I fully plan on getting a iPod mini when the price goes down or they increase the disk size. Heck if Apple would add a FM Tuner to any of the series I would buy it but I doubt they ever will cause that might bite into iTunes music sales.

I don't think any flash players would work either unless they were cheap cause they can't compare to HD based player $ per GB.
There ya go! That makes much more sense than just following the masses!
Again, I (and a lot of people) didn't buy an iPod because "everyone else" had one (not in the sense that you mean anyways). The thing is easy to use for the layman. Real world example: Give your iRiver and my iPod to someone and ask them to find and play a certain MP3 player. Hands down they'll find the iPod easier to use. Not everyone wants a crap load of stuff on their player. I wanted the iPod because it was the thinnest HD out there, if I'm not mistaken... it still is.

I want an iPod, but really can't afford it at this point. I have an extensive macuser backgroud, but broke down and bought a Dell recently because i wanted to play some computer games in a timely fashion. I still think Mac's OS X kicks the crap out of XP.

What better way to announce to the world "Look at me! I can afford moderately expensive consumer electronics!"

I love my 20 GB Dell Digital Jukebox ($179.99) I currently have about 1600 songs on it (11 GB). I take it everywhere.
Mac user for 10 years now. Would never go back to Windows!

Had my iPod for 2 years now and never regretted the money spent on it. Just about time to upgrade to the new Photo iPod!
Sell me your old pod!
I would consider myself a gadget freak and I'll tell you why I stick with Apple. SIMPLICITY.
This is the very reason I DESPISE Apple products. Simplicity? More like STUPIDITY (ok, that sounds really immature but read on...).
My school tries to force us to use the "uber-powerful" G5 Macs for our video editing/special effects work, but because of the "SIMPLE" one button mouse (Wtf is that? Is it made for fucking bears with giant paws that can't handle more than one button!??!) one of the MOST USEFUL functions (adding key points, if anyone understands what that means) that I use ALL THE TIME in Adobe After Effects that can be done on a PC simply by holding CTRL and left clicking, is made ridiculously complicated on the Macs b/c you have to navigate through 4 menus to find the function (CTRL click on a Mac is the equivalent of the "COMPLEX" right click function on a PC). Its just assinine and I can't stand people who rave about Macs being the best computers out there. Oh god and don't get me started on how unstable they are. After losing about 10 hours of editing work b/c of those worthless piles, I've started using Adobe Premiere at home on my PC and haven't had a single problem yet.

Oh and back on topic, I wouldn't be caught dead with and iPod. They're a silly trendy item that all the goofy emo kids at my school cart around to show off to their friends. Feh. Hell I even wrote a treatment (a script with incomplete dialogue/stage direction) for one of my classes entitled "THE I-POD PEOPLE" about how I-Pods are being used to turn college students into conformist zombies. Haha. (If anyone's interested in reading it, lemme know)

With that said, I have absolutely nothing against using Mp3 players, I just think its ridiculous that people viewing them as fashion statements. I plan to buy an iRiver VERY soon (Maybe even today) b/c I'm impressed by its functions/value, not the fact that it'll make my friends jealous.

/rant

I've never really been interested in Mac's, Ive been using windows since I could type. If they made the IPOD attachable to a car stereo I would totally be interested in it. If they happen to have video files later on, maybe I'll think about getting one. As for a Apple pc....probobly never...

Well said, well said...

I truly don't understand the fascination with iPods. Simple interface yeah, but the battery sucks (both in life and replacing) and you have to use iTunes, which is a major pain in the ass because you can't transfer files between computers. iRivers are better in almost every sense of the word...

And I would like to see that treatment, cause your school seems to be a lot like mine (at least in terms of iPods)...

I have an iPod and an Apple Powerbook. The Powerbook is incredible, but I really don't enjoy my iPod that much. It's a 3rd gen 10GB and the battery life is HORRIBLE. Plus, the individual button placement above the scroll wheel just sucks, and the touch buttons are very unresponsive. I don't know why Apple ever considered separating the buttons from the scroll wheel.

The new 4th gen iPods, on the other hand, look very svelte and battery life is supposedly greatly improved. I'm saving up for the iPod Photo, tho'.

And please, let's not turn this into another "@PPl3 5uKz0r5 and W1nd0wz pwn5 j00!!1!1!!" thread...or vice versa. Everyone's gonna have their own opinion. Let's leave it at that.
