The Joey Styles' Punch-Out!! Pro-Wrestling thread

Heh... I just got an Xmas present from Time Warner down here, they added USA and Sci-Fi in HD this week. I'm back, baby!

Added bonus, they're both east coast feed... so I can watch early. :)

Benjamin vs. Helms was a decent match, the Divas match was garbage, and btw Maryse should pin me like she pinned Maria last week. :D

I wish there was a way to disable captions during story mode in TNA Impact. There's a lot of errors in grammar. The one that's bothered me the most so far was "say's".

"Nash say's that if I win tonight, I'll have a shot at the belt"

Somebody tell me where I can find more of that guitar remix of The Moon that plays in Botchmania 63 around the 1:20 mark.

EDIT: and 2:30. Or is it still the same song?

Haha... I'm reading The Spy Who Came For Christmas by David Morrell, and a few pages in, one of the main characters mentions his parents' names. He gave his father's name as Vladimir Kozlov.

Are you trying to score a backstage pass? :)

SD thoughts -

HHH-Chavo was short, but fun while it lasted, and the pre-match bit with HHH mocking Vickie's weight while his wife has to be shot from the chest up to conceal hers amused me. Helms-Shelton was awesome. Very well-paced, and the crowd ate up the near falls - quite a feat for a secondary title match between two guys who the crowd hasn't been given much of a reason to care about. Carlito-THE Brian Kendrick was short, but fun, and Kendrick sold the backstabber so well that I could see it helping to get the move over again. With that said, I'm looking forward to the day when Kendrick and BIG ZEKE win the gold, as the Colons' reign is doing nothing for me.

The divas title match peaked with Maryse's entrance - it was all downhill from there. First, McCool's attire looked awful, and the finish looked even worse. Maryse's kick missed by a mile. MVP-Khali worked well to set up Kennedy's return against MVP if they want to go in that direction, and Khali's new jolly theme ruled! They did a good job making Umaga look like a monster in the hype video - mission accomplished there, although the Kizarny videos continue to do nothing to make me want to see him debut.

Show-Jeff was a good monster vs. little man match. Jeff played the Ricky Morton role well like he usually does, and I enjoyed seeing Show bust out a hammerlock slam, complete with J.R. referencing the Andersons. Show's role as the jobber to the main event-level stars is working for me - its led to him having some great matched with 'Taker and Jeff in the past few months, and has been done in such a way that he doesn't look too weak, as they've wisely protected the knockout punch. I liked Matt tugging at Jeff's banged up arm, as it was a somewhat subtle clue for his possible heel turn, and I'd rather see him in that role than his current happy-go-lucky character. Although I hope that if they do turn him heel, they have him tone things down a bit with his wacky mannerisms - particularly jumping around and waving his arms around like a goof during big moments/before the Twist of Fate, as they're annoying and would make it hard to take his character seriously.

Stevie Richards has a collapsed lung -

Bad break for Stevie, who's someone I've always rooted for since first seeing him '97. He seems like a genuinely great guy who is capable of achieving success outside of the ring as well as within it - I hope he's able to make a full recovery from this.

Poor Maryse :(

According to several fans in attendance at tonight's SmackDown brand house show in Raleigh, North Carolina, reigning WWE Divas Champion Maryse suffered a traumatic injury during her match.

Maryse and Natalya were wrestling The Bella Twins in the third match on the show. As Maryse worked one of the twins over in the corner, she suddenly collapsed to the mat. She appeared to have blown out her knee as she was seen clutching it.

What followed was an awkward scene in which Natalya stood on the apron not knowing what to do while The Bella Twins went around playing up to the crowd. Special guest referee Kung Fu Naki stood over Maryse talking to her. The road agent for the match threw up the "X signal" and a number EMTs, referees and road agents hit the ringside area. Meanwhile, Natalya entered the ring and made one of the twins submit to the sharpshooter to put an end to the match. Maryse was then carted off on a stretcher.

This is a horrible break for Maryse as she beat Michelle McCool just last week to become the new WWE Divas Champion. It goes without saying that she'll be forced to relinquish her newly won title and take several months off due to the injury as well.

So I guess it's been longer than I thought since I used PWT, as I can't log in. I tried creating a new account and it let me, which surprised me because I thought they were invite only. I even got a confirmation e-mail and I confirmed successfully. Then I tried to log in and it wouldn't let me. Now it tells me that my e-mail isn't on record.

Does anyone know how one who cannot log in can contact an admin to try and get this straightened out?

Her wiki has been updated with a different story, saying that a Bella Twin tried a dropkick that hit her kneecap straight on (must've been a hell of a dropkick to hit her in the knee if true)

I saw that. I haven't DL'd it but I don't know if I'll be able to resist, as much as I'd like to see this movie in the theater the first time I watch it. Regardless of my whether my resolve holds, I'm sure I'll go see it at least twice.
Eh, impact hasn't been nearly bad as I thought it would be tonight, compared to what's been shown recently. Then again, that's like comparing diarrhea to a debilitating fever.
Don't you mean "dehabilitating" fever?
Haha. Maryse sucks. Like all the women wrestlers.
Maryse isn't bad by WWE standards. Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Victoria, and Mickie James are the only women on the roster who are actually good, but Maryse has gone from unable to wrestle at all (I don't mean badly; I meant unable to have a match) to at least competent.

I don't think the comment was really necessary since the injury wasn't her fault, anyway. The knees are pretty sensitive, and while I don't know how much experience the Bellas have (it could have been a freak accident) I've seen a friend get shelved for over a year due to a trainee fucking up a dropkick to said friend's knee.

Fair enough. But them's the breaks. Beth Phoenix could get hurt against damn near any of the twats they throw in the ring with her each and every week.

The problem is that WWE parades these tits each week as tits on the main rosters, and THEN decides to train them how to wrestle. Beth vs. Natalya would be fun to watch, but Beth vs. Roucka, or Rosie McHispanic or whatever her "spic'ed up" WWE name is - that's what we're gonna get. But we get junk matches that mean nothing. What was the women's match on Raw this past week? Two weeks ago? Right. That's what I'm saying.

Victoria has been a nobody for years now, even if she does know how to wrestle. Putting her out there is like putting Hacksaw Jim Duggan out on Raw (at least in terms of "how long will this match last and who is going to win" metrics). I *like* Victoria a lot as a wrestler, but let's be honest. How many tickets do you think sold this past year to see Victoria?

I just don't care for the majority of the women wrestlers in WWE (not that I give a flying fuck about the competencies of "The Beautiful People" or any woman not named Awesome Kong in TNA, for what that's worth). They have no impact in their moves whatsoever, fuck up gloriously so much that, were they men, they wouldn't have even been given a tryout match, and serve merely as bathroom breaks for the live audience.

Now I'm no fool: the women do sell tickets. But it's their tits that sell the tickets, not their matches. The facade of wrestling they put on is a waste of air time. Have them do bikini contests, or crowd-votes-for-the-best-dry-hump contest. Something like that. All I'm saying is this: drop the pretense of women's wrestling, and stop injuring your meal tickets because they don't know what they fuck they're doing.

Maybe when Melina breaks her neck doing the sitout-powerbomb-by-way-of-Canada-destroyer (or whatever it's called - Code Red?), the WWE will figure it out.

Oh, and by the way, Roucka's not all that amazing in the ring either. But she's got tits. So she's on TV.

Supposedly
Christian to the WWE is a done deal, as they're putting things together for a Jeff Hardy/Christian Cage 'Mania match, revealing Christian as the one who attacked Jeff prior to his PPV match.

Well, it's not like they haven't called Goldust "Dustin Rhodes" on TV before.

Milena attacks Melina!

I guess they're going the predictable route of having Beth face and defeat Melina at the Rumble, followed bya feud for WrestleMania with Roucka/Mendez. They've been hinting at a Beth face turn, but I hope they have her shun Mendez and keep Beth heel. There are more face divas on Raw than heels, and Beth is the only heel who is actually a threat.

I never realized how short he was until he was standing next to Orton. He seems to be doing well with the new gimmick though

Does anyone hate Mysterio as much as me? Man this guy is so boring.

It's the new Nation of Domination!

Anyone else see the pink wristband on Ziggler? Dolph Ziggler supports breast cancer research!

See, when reading that, it only makes one thing clear... Hardy is definitely dropping the belt before Mania, which means SOON, since I'm assuming that they'd want to build up the Smackdown title match for longer than a month.

On that note, I guess that means Edge/HHH at Mania? If Taker is supposedly facing HBK and Hardy is out of the title picture... who else is there?

Yeah thats probably about right, unless Orton wins the rumble and goes for H and Smackdowns belt (don't act like he won't have it back by then)

I'm guessing they would run some sort of Hardys vs. E&C match if that news item proves true, cash in on the nostalgia (I don't see Jeff/Christian 1 on 1 going that well on its own) maybe a street fight/extreme rules if MITB comes back.

I see the entire card shaping up like this....

Cena vs. Jericho
HBK vs. Taker
Orton vs. Triple H
E&C vs. Hardys
Regal vs. Rey Mysterio? - IC title
Kennedy vs. MVP (US Title? although i'm leaning towards them eventually teaming up)
MITB - Helms, Kendrick,Benjamin,Truth,Morrison,Kofi,CM Punk, Kane
Beth vs. Mickie vs. Melina

and then a random matchup just go get them ont he card..
Vladimir Kozlov vs. Big Show (maybe ECW title if they want to get it off of Matt Hardy)

I feel like there may be a tag title unification at some point before WM since Miz and Morrison are working all three brands anyhow. Then they could probably push the tag titles into the e&c feud and (holy crap) give them some meaning again (not that miz and morrison are doing a bad job, it's that theres like 3 other teams total)

Raw was okay, but not very memorable aside from the Goldust skit, Santino's commentary during the divas battle royal, the 10-man tag, which was fun and saw Cena trying to help Kofi get over again, and the main event, which was enjoyable due to Jericho's awesome selling of the superkick, Orton being awesome, Michaels being conflicted, and JBL being a total dick.
I haven't watched wrestling for about a year now. Miss any thing?????
I've just been reading results 9 times out of 10 for nearly 2 years now and don't feel like I've missed much. Occasionally I'll have no idea who a newer guy is (still have never seen Ricky Ortiz, not that I really care), and the interchangeable Divas become even more muddled and unidentifiable. Once in a while I'll Youtube/Dailymotion something that sounded interesting from the previous night (ie the Goldust skit above...I laughed at the brief resurrection of his Tourette's gimmick - "UU-UUU-UMAGA!"). That's about it.
