The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube) $37.99 @ CC.com

Walked into a TRU near work and snagged a second copy. The one coming in the mail Ill leaved sealed and store it away with my Sealed Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for PS2.

Crap.
I went to the store yesterday morning and they had more than 10 copies on the shelf. I decided to come back later in the day and pick it up since I had gift certificates. They were completely sold out when I showed up at 5pm. :bomb:

Price matched two copies at the Midtown BB this morning. They seemed to have plenty of copies. Will open one, and save the other for my trade list or some other good reason.

My local CC in Frederick, MD got 7 copies in, and sold out at 5:01pm.

Local Target had about 30 of them that I saw in the display case. Got one for $50 at Target. Not cheap, but it's for my little bro for Christmas.

C'mon people, give some impressions! How are the controls? I can't believe there are ZERO reviews up. And judging from the story on 1up just a few days ago, I don't think they received their copy until retail date so that would obviously delay things.

I think the difficulty also comes up in how to properly score this game. Since the Wii game has been out for a month and the initial love factor is gone, can the GC version have any chance of garnering similarly high scores?

Picked up, price matched at BB and this time they also let me use the GGC coupon.

Controls are fine, feels a lot like the controls from Wind Waker so far. I need to check to see if I can adjust the C-stick sensitivity because adjusting the camera feels too sensitive to me. Don't like how pressing the C-stick forward moves the view to first person, you can only swing the camera left and right.

Graphics are good but I've been spoiled by Oblivion lately. Link and Epona look great though.

am i the only one who hates the fact then in 1st person aiming view up makes you godown and down makes you go up? thats always bothered me in games and since you cant adjust that in this game its going to take me some time to get used to it since i usually switch that up in every game thats set up that way. other than that the game is nice ive only got about an hour into it mostly due to collecting coincs since i knew at some point id need to buy some stuff.

even though ive got the game im still kinda pissed nintendo took so damn long to get it out and thats kinda bothering me a bit but hopefully the greatness which is zelda will soothe all anger in time once i get deeper into the game. and the fishing sucks. i hope you can get a rod and reel that acts more liek the one in OOT later in the game but if you cant then the fishing in this game is a joke. all theat noise and hype about fishing with a wii controller when in reality the fishing mini game is so many steps behind hom immersive the oot game was.

I too was wondering WTF is up with the reviews on this game. this isnt Triggerman for GC its one of the most anticipated games. Yet, no review.

My copy however was amicably confiscated by my wife. Christmas Present. Oh well. Ill play it eventually.:applause:

I played it for about 10 minutes last night after almost 2 hours of Gears of War.

The graphics, while great for a Gamecube game, cannot stand up to the 360. Eventually, once I'm done with Gears, I'm sure I won't notice the glaring difference as much but last night, it was rough.

The controls are good although I would reverse the C-stick. When I press right on the C-stick, I want to look right, not left. Unfortunately, this isn't an option with Legend of Zelda. That's another factor that's going to keep me away until I'm done with Gears. I don't want to mix the two of them up and turn my back to a monster in either game.

The music is lively and appropriate at the moment, once I leave the initial village I suppose I'll learn more. The sound effects are a bit mixed. I don't need that loud OoT "beep" everytime I examine something or talk to somebody. It grated on my nerves when OoT came out and it still does.

That's about all I've got at the moment. I'd say get this now because there were people waiting at CC for 5pm. Combine that with a limited print run (Nintendo is too busy with the Wii to devote too much time to a GC release) and I'd say a price drop is unlikely.
Does the GC version support 480p/widescreen progressive scan as well like the Wii version?
Nope.

CC the cheapest price on TP for GC?

It's also an arguably inferior version of a fairly lengthy game for a dead console that has already been reviewed on the Wii. Add to that the fact that this is the holiday season and there are a ton of new releases and I'm not surprised there's no review yet.

Progressive yes.

Widescreen no.
Progressive yes.

The GC might as well not support progressive because the cables are impossible to find without paying more than what the game cost for them.

yea man.. i stll dont know why nintendo chose to make the progressive cables so impossible to get...

I only got to play it for like 30 mins yesterday.. hopefully today ill play some more..

i too am spoiled by the graphics ive become used to.. i guess i just got to get it out of my system and just get back to gc mode..

another thing that sucks is that on my svideo cable i cant detach the sound wires to connect to my receiver. was hoping to atleast play in dolby pl2. fuck this is gay

my tv stretches the image so its not too bad but the blurryness is what bothers me...

The newer gamecube doesnt support progressive scan, so there is no need to over produce the cable

My GC is Hooked up using first Party Component cables. I bought them from ebay 2-3 years ago for around 35.00 bucks w/shipping from Japan. I dont know how much they are now.

You might want to try picking up a couple of A/V extension cables for your left and right audio.

So far my Circuit City has none (said they only got 6 in for pre orders), Best Buy had about 6 (wouldn't price match), and Target had 3. Not too plentiful at the moment around North Houston.

My only qualm with the controls thus far is the camera. I'm not digging the whole backwards C-stick thing, but I'll get used to it. The controls are pretty much Wind Waker-esque with the exception of the camera.

The fishing is just further proof that Nintendo is sadistic. It's tedious but I'm hoping a rod upgrade later in the game might smooth things out a little.

Overall though, I'm really enjoying the game so far. The music is great, and while the graphics aren't the best in comparison with the newer consoles, they're pretty awesome for the GameCube.

yea i though about that but i dont know where i can get them cheaply around here.. maybe ill order from monoprice.

and yea i got to cc at 7pm yesterday and not one copy was on the shelves.. i literally walked around the store for 30 mins and then finally some ass hole decides to bring out about 8 copies.. i dont know if they actually sold alot at 5pm (doubtful) or if they only put out those handful of copies

Gamecube games that run in progressive scan will do so on Wii if you have the Wii component cables... but honestly, there's not much of a point for a game thats the same thing as what you got on Wii.

Strangely enough, I played the cube version, and not only is Link left handed like he was before, but all the maps are flipped around. What once was on the right is now on the left in game.

That's because they mirrored the Wii version to make Link right-handed. It was easier to just flip everything than go back and change Link to a righty.

My question about the Wii version is simply... are there other options for control? Can you use the new "Classic" Controler? Enabling one analog stick to be movement and one to be a free camera? I liked the camera control in WW but OoT drove me nuts with the camera. I've heard that camera control is more like OoT in the Wii TP using the 'mote and 'chuck

No reason to punish those of us that ordred the cables long ago while they were still available.

i've been playing with the sensor bar turned off, so there's no camera control per se, and i find the game's camera to be excellent almost all of the time. only during some of the really close-quarters battles does it sometimes get in the way, and even then, it's very slight.
80?! what the heck is wrong with people? must be hard to find in some areas.
I'm pretty sure he means the GC component cables, not Twilight Princess.
I'm pretty sure he means the GC component cables, not Twilight Princess.
No, he's talking about Zelda.
Going for around $80 on ebay at the moment. Good deal.
I'd say it's closer to 60.00, but there're a few exceptions going for $80 or above.

So with all the comparisons between the GC and the Wii version, how does the graphic match up? (sorry, don't have time to browse through all 9 pages)

Given that the Wii and GC's performance are similar, did Nintendo just used the same graphic engine and same tweaks on both games or did they make the Wii look better?

From what I've gathered (by reading the whole thread ... not a knock on you not reading it ... just saying i don't own both of them to make a comparison) :

- The only graphical differance is Wii supports Widescreen.
- It's worth noting though that everything in the GC version is mirror (right-left/left-right) of the Wii version.

Due to the apparent sell-out of the GC version + lack of widescreen support I'll be waiting for the Wii version. (My living room's 30" HD CRT is widescreen and so is my 27" LCD computer monitor/Bedroom TV.)

Are you saying that, if you're searching for a room, and it's to the left in the Wii version, in the Gamecube version, it's to the right instead?

Heh, so far the best reason I've heard so far for me to choose the GC version over the Wii is that Link's a Lefty!

Go Lefties of the world!
Are you saying that, if you're searching for a room, and it's to the left in the Wii version, in the Gamecube version, it's to the right instead?
Yup! GameFAQ writers are going to get a lot of mileage out of the "Find and Replace" tools in their text editors I daresay.

Picked up Zelda at circuit city yesterday at 5. They had about 18 copies and I got the first one. Fed ex truck got there at 4:50.

Picked up the last copy at my best buy. PM the cc ad and the total was $40.xx. No more gamer gift cards at my best buy! :(

Yep, I'm digging the GC version.

It's sharper, plays better, and is on the console it was meant to be on. Sorry, but the Wii version was a simple port to get some extra folks to buy a Wii day of, but not a true Zelda for a next gen console.

GC version > Wii version

guys, a day or two after a game releases isn't necessarily the best time to determine if something is rare. at least give it several weeks to see what kind of refresh shipments come in.

GC version > Wii version
regardless of what format it began life on, Zelda is intended to be improved on the Wii, on all fronts. saying the "Wii version was a simple port"? they're almost the exact same machine. plays better? highly subjective, and about the only point i'll even mildly concede, considering the apples-and-orange debate between the Wii remote and the GC controller. sharper? nope.

seeing as the Wii is hardly a "next gen console" and more like Gamecube 1.5 (i own both, so i'm not bashing), the "true Zelda" you seek is never going to land; at least not on the Wii.

the gamecube uses mini disc, I have yet to play this but I'm guessing it loads faster on the cube compared to the Wii?
the gamecube uses mini disc, I have yet to play this but I'm guessing it loads faster on the cube compared to the Wii?
How do you figure? Just because it's a smaller disc? The way I look at it is if it's relatively the same game it should relatively take up the same space on both discs. Then on top of that I'd also guess that Nintendo put a faster disc drive in the Wii than the previously released GameCube.

What a kickass game. With this and all my ds and ps2 games I don't want a wii so badly anymore. I think I will wait a few years. I wonder if this gamecube zelda did that to any other potential wii buyers?

I wonder if this gamecube zelda did that to any other potential wii buyers?

Not for me. I will get my hands on one eventually, and plan to get Zelda for that as well. I own same games On Multiple platforms. Im a collection Whore monger.
