The "Messiah CompleX PWNS Countdown and WWH" Comic Discussion Thread
i agree whole-heartly with reasons 5, 6 and 7.

i'm a big IRONMAN fan. always have been. still am even though i think he's a dick, but i really want the HULK to squish him to death. HULK should smash him on his forehead like a beer can. has IRONMAN ever faced the HULK in his HULK-BUSTER armor? i can't remember if he has. i'd like to see that fight.
From wiki... I remember this ish from when I was a kid:

First Appearance: Iron Man #304

The Hulkbuster armor is a heavy-duty exo-frame (an add-on to the Mk. XI Modular Armor) designed for maximum strength amplification at the cost of reduced versatility and mobility. As its name suggests, it was specifically designed for hand-to-hand combat with the rampaging Hulk. The armor was rated with a lift (press) capacity of 175 tons. During its maiden run, the armor enabled Stark to hold his own in sustained physical combat with the Hulk. In subsequent battles with the Hulk, however, Stark has declined to utilize this armor, so it is unclear whether it is indeed capable of defeating the Hulk.

Just a reminder, Free Comic Book Day is this upcoming Saturday!

ALSO! If your store carries Sideshow statues they more than likely got this statue for free:

7123.jpg

Description here.

Although it's from the movie it's still a really nice statue.

Included with the statue was a card instructing the store to give it away on Free Comic Book Day. So if they aren't raffling one off you know who to yell at.

...I might have to yell at myself...love the cigar

I've got 12 boxes worth of FCBD comics in the back, along with some Naruto cards and a star wars miniarture clone trooper to hand out on saturday.

We'll also have Tim Seeley in from 3-5 doodling. He's done some stuff for hack/slash and some other fun books. Should be fun.

At least this year im not dressed as spidey

Here's the thing (ha!), each store probably got -1- of those statues, or none. Nothing on FCBD is actually free to the store itself. We pay a small amount for each comic, as well as shipping. Side stuff like statues and small collectibles normally cost more. Indie books compared to mainstream cost more.

It does make for a fun day though
At least this year im not dressed as spidey
So no more cute girls pinching your ass this year?

And what's everyone picking up on FCBD? My LCS has a limit of six free comics you can take. And the only ones I definitely know I want are Amazing Spider-Man: Swing Shift, Astounding Wolf-Man #1, and Transformers: The Movie Prequel.
So no more cute girls pinching your ass this year?
I'm having enough problems with that without having the suit on...

Umbrella Academy, Wolf-man (Robert Kirkman), Wahoo Morris and JLA #0 are all good bets.
Nothing on FCBD is actually free to the store itself. We pay a small amount for each comic, as well as shipping.
True, we actually pay less for the 10¢ issues (when they came out). And I was so tempted to snag that statue as well but I don't have much room left around here. I actually have to rearrange stuff so I can fit my Batman Black & White statues on the shelf.

My only local comic shop is only giving away one comic per customer. When we had two shops the other shop gave away as many as the customer wanted.

This is too tough,. My one friend I go comic shopping with decided she would rather go on FCBD to do our comic run, since it's a 30 minute drive to get to the good comic store near my house versus the crappier one closer to our school. Which I was fine with, until I got to today and now I'm all antsy wanting to read some of the stuff that's out like 52 or Astonishing. Damn you FCBD!

I know this is off topic but has anyone check out the new Dark Horse Buffy the Vampire comic written by Josh Whedon. It is definitely a must read if you were a fan of the show. Also, Whedon is now writing for Runaways, one of my favorite comics in the past year.

I wouldn't really call it off topic since this is just the general comic discussion thread. I just chose to label it after WWH and Countdown since I did the same last time with Civil War. But yeah, I've been reading Buffy Season 8. I love it so far. Though I haven't read 3 yet. That'll be for when I go comic shopping tomorrow. Whedon definitely is one of my favorite writers out there. It saddens me that he's only on Runaways for this one arc and then he's gone, and that he's done with Astonishing after this arc...

I liked the I'm a Marvel, and I'm Batman one the best. That one was great.

i work at a cinemark theater here in louisville kentucky. i get to see films for free. i love it. i see movies all the time now. for FREE.

I WALKED OUT OF SPIDER-MAN 3. i walked out of a movie i paid nothing to see.

i now hate sam raimi. i hate avi arad (he produces all the marvel movies). why? why? why have a song & dance routine in a super-hero movie?

that was when i left. i saw the venom fight on a website and liked it, but i wasted my time seeing this film in the theater. i wasted my time seeing this film, period.

i'm losing respect for marvel. i'm losing respect for marvel because they no longer respect themselves. they broke my heart when they killed CAP. they smacked me in the face with this farce of a movie.

i hate avi arad and wish he would fall to his death, get hit by a bus, choke on his lunch, and get eaten by a rabid grizzly bear all at the same time.

i used to love sam raimi. the evil dead trilogy is one of my all time favs. when i play gears of war, and people call my a newb because i chainsaw them over and over i say "hail to the king, baby" or "shop smart, shop S mart" as a tribute to those films. now those B movies are the only thing he's ever done well in his career.

name a marvel movie and tell me it was good and i will tell you 20 things that made it suck rabid grizzly bear balls.

DD-sucked
FF-sucked
punisher-sucked
hulk-sucked
spiderman 1 2 & 3-sucked

ironman (who is my fav marvel hero)is being filmed right now. the pics i've seen of his gray original armor look awesome. his present armor looks dead on to the book and looks incredible. but this movie will suck. it has a director who's never done an action film and the lead actor is ROBERT DOWNEY JR. FOR CHRIST SAKES!!!!! the real reason it will suck is that AVI ARAD IS ITS PRODUCER.

AVI ARAD MUST DIE. DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE.
or be fired. whatever comes first.

thank you mr. rodregez for making a movie that remained faithful to the book it was adapted from. you are the man. sin city by frank miller. it had to be a frank miller book.

a quote by frank, "i got into comics to make them more cinematic. i stay in comics to make them less so." amen.

1) X2 was a great movie. Try and tell me 20 things that made it suck. Just try.

2) So far, Iron Man sounds great. Jon Favreau recognizes that IM is a more mature super-hero and has already stated he wants to make the movie more mature of a comic book movie. You ask me, Robert Downey Jr is the perfect casting as Tony. Between the fact that he knows a thing or two about addiction to the fact that he's genuinely a great actor, there's a lot to look forward to him as Tony. And considering most likely the action scenes will involve Iron Man and not Tony Stark, they'll most likely involve CGI, which will limit the amount of actual action Downey will have to do.

3) You seriously need some help if you feel the need to flip out everytime a Marvel movie is made. I don't think I've ever seen anyone complain so much about something so trivial in life.

I have to admit that Spiderman 3 was far from the best. It was a good summer blockbuster film, but I didn't love it. It felt too long and the villains felt forced. Plus, the Osborn's butler could have saved Harry a lot of grief if he had told him about Norman's wound. And now that I think about it, how the heck would he know if Norman died by his own hand anyway?

The only thing that matters is that my son loved it and had a great time. I enjoyed it and saw many families sitting together and having a good time.

I still need to go see Spider-Man 3. I've already heard about some of the ridiculousness of it from my friend who went to the midnight showing Thursday night (and abandoned me to go with her other friends, but we won't go there), so I know what to expect so I'm just planning on going in and clicking my brain off for two and a half hours and to be apparently entertained by the animation alone of Sandman and Venom, which she said were the high points of the movie.
they broke my heart when they killed CAP.
WHAT THE FLUX! SPOILERZ PLEAZ!

But seriously what do you expect? The only reason a direct adaptation of Sin City works is because it's also written for that specific R audience. A direct adaptation of the Birth of Venom would be god awful. It reads like a fucking porno. At one point Peter Parker is taking some pictures of MJ, everything is happy. Then the next panel Peter is on the floor all depressed about how he's not cut out for this kind of work. Next we see MJ with a thought bubble, "I'd better do something!" She says to Peter, "How bout some pictures for our private collection?" Next panel has her blouse at her heels and Peter looking suprised. A few panels later they're all eating dinner.

In other words, keep in mind that Sam and Ivan are writing to please everybody. I enjoyed the movie. I didn't think it was great, but the comedy was on and so was the action.

Oh, and...
When MJ kissed Harry the whole audience boo'd. Then when it got quiet I yelled, "GOLD DIGGAH!"

Quick points on Spidey 3:
-Topher Grace should have been Spidey from the beggining.
-The dance scene... if the second half of the movie didnt suck, it would'nt have stood out so much.
- why the fuck did they have to kill
Harry? The character finally works, and they kill him. Killing Eddie Brock wasn't too smart either.

:applause:

Ironman 2020's vision is anything but 20/20.

You need to move out of your mom's basement and gain perspective on the world.

These movies are a 90-120 minute summation of comic series that have been running for decades. They aren't going to have time to cater to every fanboy's every whim.

The only Marvel movie I thought was really bad was Ghost Rider. The fights were try one move and fail, get hit hard, try second move and kill them. Very bland overall.

Hulk would be next worst, but by no means horrid. The main characters were all awesomely done. The only real problem was the absurdity of the final fight. If you look at it as a big green guy hitting stuff, the movie succeeds.

Personally, I thought the Punisher movie was excellent, but then I've never read a Punisher comic.

I've heard Electra was absolutely abysmal, so I haven't seen that.

But over all, wishing death upon someone because they didn't fulfill your every whim is just juvenile.

So how was everyone's Free Comic Book Day? Saturday was the first I've ever gone to. I thought you get a free comic of each but I was told to pick one...I took Transformers Movie Prequel...I already had all 4 but just for my own collector purposes. I also got a free Batman Heroclicx which was pretty cool and a Simpsons comic signed by some chick.

FCBD was fun. Insanely busy all day. Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) was signing and doing drawings. I got to talk to a bunch of new people.

Personal fav of the free comics was the Peanuts one :)

hey lobster, they killed cap in the comics like 2 months ago dude. no spoiler needed.

so i live with at my parents place. so?

i'm sure all those families having fun never read a comic in their lives and had to hold themselves back from dancing right along with peter parker.

hey i'm just venting. this is like what marvels 10th movie and they all suck. they can't get it right. i'll never say they look like crap(except bullseye, magneto, juggernaught, the thing, dr. doom, black suit spider man, green goblins 1 & 2) or these films aren't fun. they are just wrong. spiderman 2 should have been one, one should have been two and three was half retarded.

i don't want secret wars to be the origin of the black suit. i thought what they came up with was fine. a big stretch, but fine.

these films are not 90-120 minute summations. comics have origin retold arcs with a cool fight at the end all the time and they only take one issue. the black suit and the bell was web of spiderman #1, one issue. the origin of venom was one or two issues. once you trim the fat it should take 20 minutes tops.

i'm just sick of avi arad butchering things i've loved my whole life. why can't any one at marvel look at these movie and NOT say "well, its a different medium and they're trying to reach a wider audience, reaching new fans." any one who picks up a book or a TPB for the first time because they saw spiderman or x-men will be so confused. they wont see any of the story they saw and the characters they liked are completely different.

the only marvel movie i ever liked that was adapted from a comic is the campy captain america from like 15 years ago. long live those rubber ears.

FCBD was great. I actually had to wait in a really long line to get some comics, which is a rarity. Limit was 5 free comics. So I missed out of Pirates vs Ninjas and The Unseen Peanuts. Their was a good mix of different age groups. It's always nice to see so many little kids getting comics.
the only marvel movie i ever liked that was adapted from a comic is the campy captain america from like 15 years ago. long live those rubber ears.
wow. fucking wow.

Well... maybe you should go find the 90's fantstic four movie then.
Then watch the Star Wars Christmas Special. Then Catwoman.

What are your opinions on Ishtar?

:p

Had a nice long discusion this morning with a customer about the Spiderman movies in general. A bit of back and forth, but we both agreed that in the next movie (since they didnt do it in 3) they should kill Mary Jane and have her replaced with Gwen.

20 things that sucked about the xmen movies...
1. X1 was produced by avi arad.
2. how does a school in this day and age get all that dough for tech and planes and under ground complexes? unless xavier's been using they the xmen to rob banks or he's maniplulating the stock market with his mind.
3. black leather? come on. tell me, really, grant morrisons xmen look or cassidy's? color me astonished.( i know the movies were out before astonishing xmen)
4. no quiksilver or scarlet witch. the brotherhood was a joke.
5. sabertooth didn't speak. thats half of whats great about his fights with wolvie.
6. magneto looked too old. i love ian mcellen and he was really good, but he just doesnt look like the warrior that is magneto.
7. they killed cyclops not for the story but that the actor left to go do superman(which sucked).
8. marvel let the director leave X3 to go do superman in the middle of shooting.
9. the jugernaught's helmet was made from tin foil.
10. X2 was produced by avi arad.
11. the origins and beginings of the xmen are never really told.
12. i preferred caliban as a white monster thing over a chick with a tatoo on her face.
13. not enough gotesque mutants. a dude with wings and i guy with blue fur, that was really it.
14. X3 was produced by avi arad.
15. no sentinels. not really any way.
16. they were supposed to tell the origin of wolverine. did they?
17. xavier was a puss. he got out mind dueled by a retard. whatever.
18. the golden gate bridge. nuff' said.
19. no mohawk on storm. just kidding.
19. this is what makes all marvel films stink. they are out of continuity with each other. where is this marvel universe? all these films are done by fox right? have something to tie them together. thats what all these films miss. thats avi arad is still missing.
20. did i mention they were produced by avi arad?

the one time i saw it i was like 10. and it was said togue in cheek my friend. tongue in cheek.
hey dont knock ishtar, pal.

Wow. You are special. Maybe I should enter you in those Olympics they have for people as "special" as you. I mean, you're confusing Caliban and Callisto, which is pretty hard to do since one is a woman and one is a FREAK OF NATURE (although I'll give you some credit there since they did steal one of Caliban's powers for Callisto); the origin of Wolverine is supposed to be involved in the Wolverine movie; they never specifically show that Cyclops is dead, and considering this is a comic book movie, one should expect this is more likely a "comic book death"; the Marvel films that have been put out are not all done by Fox...Spider-Man is done by Sony for example...That's part of the reason Avi is making a production company for Marvel movies, so that he can start making them all in the same continuity; I mean, I've just picked apart like four of your reasons with very little effort and that's not even counting the four that are "Avi Arad sucks". Seriously, you're arguments against the X-Men movies fail, especially since most are against X-Men 3.

i just wish they would get it right one time. these stories and characters have been around for forever. they obviously work fine they way the are. they work for us right?

have you heard about the green arrow movie?

stop drinking the poison koolaid

Damn, hate to be rude, but get a fucking life. I mean you don't like these movies, oh well. And if you are going to make 20 reasons, you can't use the same one like four times, just ruins everything else.

"8. marvel let the director leave X3 to go do superman in the middle of shooting."

Singer did nothing on X-3. He "left" before it began anything more than scriptwork, the guy who did Layer Cake stepped in until a month before shooting, then Ratner came in.

I suppose sarcasm can be hard to read sometimes. But seriously, if you liked the cap movie take nigel's advice, the 90s FF is absolute crap. The end scene with Richard's hand coming out of the top of the limo and waving seriously looks like a glove on a broom.

Just read Countdown #51.
This story is going to be huge. It's going to be confusing. It's going to be fun.
Just like 52.

Unlike 52, there is no day to day numbering. That being said, most of the issue has a neat, almost butterfly effect presentation to it.

The cover folds out so the back, front and fold out make up the large countdown poster. The logo is 52's except with that current issues # and the word Countdown underneath which looks pretty damn cool.

Tag line: So begins the end!

Now to go read some more...

EDIT: Some more...

Punisher War Journal -
Yes, he's in his new Captain America-esque gear. Yes you find out why. No, it's not what you were thinking.

New Avengers - I'll be really sad when New Avengers goes back to sucking. For now... awesome. Oh, and Ronin isn't who you thought it was either.

Actually, Ronin is exactly who I thought it was. My internet just broke in half, thanks Bendis...it only took three years for this book to get okay.

Countdown was a fun read, but I never dug the Watchers....err Monitors ideas. So I wonder if each Universe has their own Anti Monitor...ohhh man talk about being screwed.

last comic book i had was when bane broke batmans back LOL

i still remeber my friend buying up all the old copies for 7 to 8 bucks and now they are not worth 25 cents probally.

i should of dump off my comic book collection years ago before the price crashed.

have

spawn issue 1 to 9 some were fetching as high as 20 each at one time now probally penny LOL
witchblade 1 to 3 issue 1 was once at 50 bucks
x files 1 to 10 again issues were getting pretty penny
catwomen issue 1 to 40
death high cost of living 1 to 4 again these were getting 10+ at one time
batman knight fall when bane broke his back and all of the stupid storylines that followed

sadly they are worth next to nothing now

Can't wait to go to the store later today. Didn't get a chance since it was finals week. Although I "accidentally" spoiled who Ronin was earlier. Can't wait to see how that plays out. And Countdown. Though I heard good things about this week's Y: The Last Man. So many comics to get later.

so i just rejoined the comic booc scene 2 day ago..and i had a long hiatus of over5 years. So now i joined some comic club at my local store and signed up to have them get Witch Blade Takeru Manga,51,Ghost Rider,Cable Deadpool,Amazing Spiderman,Gen 13,and the Hulk. I heard all about the Civil War and had them oder me a copy and call me when i picked it up..i cant believe so much has happend.haha
Yeah... too bad everyone started buying comics because they thought they would actually be worth something later. Morans.
No kidding, they really should have made a smart investment and bought copies of Disgaia.

So despite the fact that I'm back to not reading hardly any DC titles (Batman and Teen Titans is about it) I decided to pick up Countdown because Red Hood seems to be a major player and, despite how lame his "resurrection" storyline was, he's still a cool character. Anyway, I gotta say that so far, its a hell of a lot better than 52. Who knows, it may drop off, but so far I'm really diggin' it.

New Avengers is really firing on all cylinders right now. I'm so happy to see who's returned.
Originally, I wanted them to leave him dead because he had one of the coolest damn deaths of all time but the stories since he's returned, and his general attitude, has really made me like the fact that they brought him back. So now that Clint seems to be back and Vision is more or less back, does that mean that Jack of Hearts is the only person killed during Avengers Disassambled that has stayed dead? (well considering he was dead before Disassembled I guess even that doesn't really count, who knows)
The really cool thing about New Avengers was that its mostly an all talking issue and despite that its still completely engrossing.

I absolutely loved MArvel Zombies. Especially the cover. What makes the cover all that more amusing is that the solicitation on Marvel's site said it was a remake of the "most famous cover of the 90's"
...and then it ends up being the wildly over-printed X-men #1  good stuff

RedVsBlue, I believe that Scott Lang is still dead right? God please tell me they haven't brought him back yet. There was a time in comics when characters actually stayed dead; Bucky dead...ohh wait.
No kidding, they really should have made a smart investment and bought copies of Disgaia.
well if you sold out today you would still lost your butt.

Buy them at 50 sell them today around 25- 30 (since they sell now for 30 now)
