The "Messiah CompleX PWNS Countdown and WWH" Comic Discussion Thread
I got into Runaways a year or two ago. I read the first four TPBs but have sort of trailed off from there. I always wanted to keep up with it, but I just haven't for some reason. I'll probably get back into them because of this thread. The first two books were incredible reads, especially with those God like creatures (forget their names).
see, i just got into runaways when whedon took over and i just started reading comics a lil over a year ago, got the comprehensive issue that covers everything leading up to the whedon run, but i agree with what others have been saying.... the delays in the books absolutely kill me.

different notes:

walking dead was AWESOME
and i cannot wait for issue 50 of invincible
YEAH!! I totally forgot about Toxin, he is one of my favorite characters.
Oohhh...Toxin kicked ass....really, I enjoy all the variants of the symbiotes and just wish Marvel would use them more. They are so willfully unused...I really like all of them as they all bring something different.

I know. They are bringing back the Skrulls, Cloak, War Machine in the Initiative,
Don't Read unless you have read Captain America #36
Captain America in the Flesh, Steve Rogers
,
Cable in his own series, Damage Control. They are bringing back a lot of stuff, I don't know why Toxin isn't in there.
I don't know why they come out with the hardcovers of the Runaways, the TPBs are $7.99.
Hardcovers have full zize art and are not censored.
Pocket books are censored and have low quality art.

Secret Invasion #1 was pretty freaking awesome. If this can live up the the hype about the arc being tied into past Marvel History and have it make sense, this may be one Marvel event that actually lives up to the hype. I wonder if they will bring back certain characters from the dead by saying those that were killed were Skrulls, IE Captain America, Phoenix, Black Goliath, Corsair, Etc.

As someone who has read this series in Digest form, could you explain what is censored? I read almost all my comics"free" from the Library, so I'm happy with what I've experienced. I'm just wondering what I might be missing.

Yeah, I don't know what they would censor? The Secret Invasion did explain a lot, if you read the prologue then you already know one, but I did not think that
Jarvis (Tony Stark and Avengers Butler)
was one. I also think that Captain Marvel might be one, there is no way he can rise from the dead.

I think, if memory serves me right since I read the TPBs, but I think they censor the fucks/curse words in those. You can pretty much make out which words, though, so it doesn't really matter.

Depending on what comic they also censor the hardcovers. Such as the Infinite Crisis hardcover that no longer has Superboy yelling: Mother...! In the Ultimate X-men Hardcovers they censor words like dumbass and such. The Spider-man Reign Hardcover they censored the ever popular spider-nads! Runaways was always targeted for a young audience, so neither the hardcovers and digests have been censored. I own the HC and my fiancee keeps the digests in her classroom for her kids to read.

Secret Invasion was a fun read and as much as I love Yu, I wish they had gone with someone else for this project, his art is just not dynamic enough.

I have to say, that was prolly the best looking Yu-art I've seen in awhile. It was a LOT cleaner than his New Avengers work. Everyone still had that "I'm a monkey" look to them, but the lines were nice and clean.

Yu's art had to grow on me. When I first saw it in New Avengers I instantly didn't like it, but after a few issues I got into it.

I have mixed feelings about him doing Secret Invasion, but I think it'll work out good (haven't got issue #1 yet.) I read an article talking about how Yu & Bendis wanted to stay away from the cliche' that "All aliens look the same." So he really tried to focus on making all the Skrulls look unique. Yu also noted, expect to see some big ass monster Skrulls. I tip my hat to that effort.

Hey, just throwing this out here, but have any of you guys read Young Avengers Presents #3? It is about Wiccan and Speed, and Wiccan is kinda......gay.

...............................Have you NOT read anything else involving YA? Wiccan and Hulkling ARE gay....TOGETHER. Which has been the case ever since the beginning.

Well, I think I'm going to start reading comics again this week. I haven't really read any comics since 2000 but I'm really digging the new stuff going on in the Marvel universe. I was a big DC fan as a kid but I really have no desire to go back. I think I'm going to hit up my roomie (as he has a lot of marvel stuff) and then head out and buy some new stuff as well.

REALLY? I didn't know that....that is kinda creepy. I mean, I have read all of the other book and have never noticed that.

Don't know if anyone has recomended it yet, but these are worth getting

New Warriors, I have read the second issue and it looks good
Logan, Fantastic series
Cable, alright so far
Last Defenders, is getting good. The Blazing Skull is like Deadpool:lol:

Honestly, New Warriors is starting to get stale. It started out with alot of promise but the last few issues have been almost the same story. "What's Thrasher up to?" & "Jubilee's had enough of the secrets" If it doesn't pick up I may just cancel my subscription.

Also I hate Jubilee's new attitude. She used to be a fun character now she's hard ass. Lastly, I'm on issue #10 and I still don't know what the teams powers are. They're a bunch of de-powered mutants using tech to produce powers however they've never really said what each of them can do. And if I remember correctly they've only been in 1 real fight so far and we're already 10 issues in. They just sit around and practice in the danger room... boring. The Avengers Innitiative is much better.

It was alright, but I kinda got that vibe from Night Thrasher and Jubilee. Anyway, so far though, the Initiative is getting really good.

Thinking about dropping Amazing Spider-Man & New Warriors from my subscription. I just don't look forward to reading them anymore. I was open minded to the "One More Day" idea but it's turning pretty sour. They're introducing too many new characters and boring sub-plots. If the next 3 issues don't pick up I'm getting rid of it.

I'm still hanging onto Ultimates 3 mainly to keep up with the Ultimate Universe. I don't think it's so bad, but it certainly isn't as good as it's predacesors.

If you have any of the New Warriors comics that you want to get rid of, like #3-current issue, cml. I never read the One More Day, I read the issues before, but its kinda like they are taking it a little far with the Brand New Day.

They pushed themselves into a corner with Spider-Man. I knew they we're going to do some reality altering stuff, to undo the "unmasking" & "death of Aunt May."Honestly I would've been okay with that, but I didn't know it was going to be this extreme.

Not geting rid of any comics right now. I like to keep stuff :)
Yeah, and how Mary Jane is the hero Jackpot. Its kinda weird.
Yeah, I'm confused about that. She shares a lot of similarities to Mary Jane but she says she's a person called Sara Ehret. Either she has multiple personalites or she's using a fake name.

I also hate how "One More Day" spends a few issues introducting a new character then they drop them. They did this with Jackpot, Menace, & Mr. Negative (the coolest of the bunch). I figure they'll eventually get back to them but it's very frustrating for the reader. Just cause it it comes out 3 times a week doesn't mean you get a new story arc every 3 comics.

I was reading through my Avengers: Intiative and started thinking about who Mutant Zero is. It was said she's a very recognizable character, even to people who don't normally read comics. I was thinking of X-Men/ mutant chicks who I haven't seen in a while. I have a few ideas but none of them make sense to what I've seeen Mutant Zero do power-wise.

Anyone have an idea who Mutant Zero might be? Use spoilers if you think you must.

Very cool news, I missed out on Cable & Deadpool so I'll be picking this up for sure. I guess Marvel really liked Way's Deadpool in Wolverine: Orgins.

Also Spider-Man is getting another multi-platform game called Spider-man: Web of Shadows. It sounds promising but after his last few games you can't blame me for being skeptical.

Well the Spider-Man movie games, like 2 and 3, I thought they were all right. But after Friend or Foe, I am not sure about it. I have to read more about it, I have only heard of the title. As for Cable and Deadpool, I missed the first 7 and the last like 13-14 comics. Wolverine First Class is......alright, but kind of a weird team up.

I'd rather play Friend or Foe rather than Spider-Man 3. That game was awful. Also a lot of people forget about the Ultimate Spider-Man game. I liked it.

I haven't played Friend or Foe yet (it's been on my rental list for awhile, even for easy achievements), but Ir eally enjoyed Spider-Man 3 and Ultimate Spider-Man. I know there's a community that enjoyed the latter, while I seem to be in the minority for number 3, which I personally think was great and rather enjoyable.

I picked up Spider-Man 3 (360) at Target for $17.99 (plus I got a free $5 gift certificate) I played about an hour into it and the wonky controls plus horrible camera killed it for me. I might have unwilling drudged through the game but I was busy playing something else.

Yukafls - If you liked both Spider-Man 2 & 3 you would defintly enjoy Ultimate. I'm sure you could find it for under $20 no problem. I'm still waiting for the Ultimate Venom Arc to come back so I can see how it ties into the game. From what I understand it'll be after this current arc. Strangely enough the Ult. SM comics haven't made any mention of games story. Kinda hard to believe it's considered cannon.

I think I only had issue with the camera in the game maybe once or twice. The controls never bothered me either. I wish I would have seen it for that price.

Just picked up a couple of trades today.

100 Bullets: Strychnine Lives (vol. 9)
100 Bullets: Decayed (vol. 10)
Batman: The Haunted Knight
Cable and Deadpool: Bosom Buddies (vol. 4)

I didn't know the people who made Batman: The Long Halloween and Dark Victory went on to do more work. It was a pleasant surprise and so far am glad to have picked it up.

I remember the first "inside" level being a nightmare when it came to the camera. Plus when I got to swing around New York City the camera would flip around when he'd stick to a wall. I'll stop bashing Spider-Man 3 now :)

I've been meaning to stop by my local comic shop and pick up Aqua Leung & a couple Y: the Last Man volumes. And I'm not sure if you guys have heard of the Marvel Magazine but it's a UK magazine that includes a cool little statue, all for $12 - $15 each. The magazine is 15 pages all about the feature character. They're pretty interesting and I always end up learning a few things I didn't know before. I pick one up every time I go:

The Haunted Knight came out before LH and DV. It was a three issue miniseries. Everyone should read Cable and Deadpool, by far my favorite comic to have come out in years. 100 Bullets is a great read always and it should be wrapping up soon (if it hasn't already).

I agree with that. I will go hunting today for Ultimate Spider Man, I also have to pick up comics. Rodimus, If you like those figures I have seen them on a site that I go to. Here it is, and it is legit to order from. Sometimes the have a sale every now and then. Also, if you can find the Marvel UK comics, those are pretty cool too.
