The Mystery Limo Wrestling Thread
I do not think it has anything to do with not watching MTV. I think it has more to do with the fact that Jersey Shore was a pop cult phenomenon. Leno, Conan, Saturday Night Live, News, every website, etc etc etc were all talking about Jersey Shore. Snookie, J Wow and The Situation were overnight reality stars. The video of Snookie getting punched in the face by another guy was an instant hit on youtube for all of the wrong reasons. The main clip has 4.5 million views. The other clips of it all range from several hundred thousand views to a couple of million views.
To be fair... I don't watch Leno, Conan, Saturday Night Live, the news, or about 90% of television. In fact I pretty much watch nothing but Food Network, Discovery Channel, and Wrestling.

I also don't look on youtube unless it is a link on a forum. And I wouldn't click on a thread about Jersey Shore, as I know that I won't be interested.

Although, I have seen the .gif of the girl getting punched in the face, if it is the one I am thinking of. I did not know it was from that show, however.

I really don't think the wrestling audience gives two shits about anything on MTV. Take that 90's babies shit somewhere else, good sir.

I saw Snookie & The Situation on Tonight Show with Conan before Leno kicked him off. I didn't care then and I don't care now.

Last show that a WWE audience cared about that was on MTV was Sunday Night Heat.

I'm not much of a TV watcher like you, masked lemon, but I'm not oblivious to what's going on in pop culture.

I also acknowledge that, because a good bit of my cultural tastes are on the fringe, for lack of a better phrase, I'm not the target demo of what WWE is trying to pull in w/ guest hosts.

I would look at ratings trends for the past 12 months, compared to the 12 month period before that, acknowledge a lack of growth over those time frames, call the guest host concept a bust, and move forward without it. But that's looking at evidence (ratings), not my personal taste or preferences.

Could The Situation cut a promo? I honestly don't know - but I don't see it doing anything to increase viewership or PPV buys. I'd see it like the Kevin Federline thing from a few years ago. Yeah, it happened. That's about all that can be said about it. Nobody in WWE made more money or gained anything because it happened, though - and that's the point, isn't it?

I wonder how much different the WWE and the UFC would be now if Vince wasn't a retard and gave Brock Lesnar what he wanted back in 2005. If I remember right, Vince wanted him to work his way back up to his old pay and Brock wanted his old contract back.

I have no earthly clue who the fuck The Situation is, and my TV is usually on VH1, where they bring up the current D-list flavor of the month celebrity every few seconds.

I do know that Jersey Shore is all over in "pop culture".. but I'm pretty sure I never saw that show break in the top 20 of cable ratings, so why it's all over the place I have no clue.

I'm not saying that the guest host concept isn't a joke. The only decent names they've managed to bring in are Jeremy Piven and Bradley Cooper (all 30 seconds worth). Ashton would've made the cut had he actually been there live, instead of just taped segments. But, it is what it is.

It's not like they've got the pull to land the Twilight cast, or anybody of that magnitude, sadly. The WWE is just not something most people seem to want to be associated with. Just go to any WWE show (or look at the crowd when you watch on TV). Most of the people there just look like they fail at life. It's somewhat of an uncomfortable experience, kinda like going to a Lady Gaga concert and being surrounded by a bunch of screaming teenage girls and gay guys. Slightly awkward, but not enough to stop you from going.

I do watch Jersey Shore, and I've seen Mike do several interviews, and I'm confident that he, Snooki and Pauly D could pull off a few entertaining backstage segments. Especially with Miz (the MTV thing), Zack Ryder (LI-JS), or both. Dude is entertaining, and is the main reason why people watch the show. JS wouldn't be JS without him and his quotes. Having him on can't be any worse than the Bella twins acting like they want to have a threesome with Buzz Aldrin or Cheech & Chong eating Lucky Charms.

Or maybe I'm wrong, and the only shows the "WWE Universe" knows of/cares about are Nascar, Cops, Jerry Springer, etc.

Anywho, here's a clip of a reporter trying to put him on blast. He handles it pretty smoothly:

the kids like it :whistle2:#

So.. how do you think TNA will fuck up the.. what is this... second or third "ECW Invasion"? Is it doomed to fail right from the start?

Man, that was awesome seeing Austin, Goldberg, Rock, Paul Heyman congratulating Brock
after his win (spoiler tag just in case nobody seen it)

I don't know how many of you watch Superstars on Thursday, but it just feels like something is missing in this picture.

Is there a clip of it? Or at least pics? I only heard about the fight a few hours ago, but didn't really think much of it.
I thought Brock was gonna lose.

You mean that he's dressed like a wrestler and not FloJo?

Bob Barker
William Shatner
Shaq
Floyd Mayweather
Al Sharpton
Snoop Dogg
Ben Rapenburger
Ozzy Osbourne
Johnny Damon

All bigger names than the guy from Entourage and whoever the fuck Bradley Cooper is.

There's a great big world out there beyond MTV and TMZ bullshit, sir. I couldn't watch more than 10 seconds of that clip because I can't stand E! Some jackass from MTV on Jay Leno is not news, but I guess that's all these stupid fucking 90's babies care about these days.

Fist pump to that...

Carter's teased surprise that would "change TNA forever" was Paul Heyman, but a deal between both parties could not be reached.

Though a deal was not reached then, it's expected that Heyman will join the company in the near future. TNA officials are reportedly willing to give the former ECW creative director anything he wants in order to have him join their organization.

It's said that TNA's internal condition has hit rock-bottom over the last few weeks. Many within the company feel they need a savior and the only person who fits the bill is Heyman.

I was wondering what that announcement was. It was big new one weekend and then it just sort of vanished, never to be mentioned again. I thought I missed it.

I haven't found a pic of those guys with Brock but I did find these two. It was definitely awesome seeing everyone together like that.

This was also included in the article with the pic.
It should also be noted that Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg got together this past Friday night and watched their infamous match with each other. The two sat in front of a TV and watched the match with several others. Good times!

Hehe, their "infamous match".

I don't know what Heyman is doing nowadays or how badly he needs money, but I'm not convinced that he would see TNA as a place with the same potential that Eastern Championship Wrestling had.

Look, old ECW was a fading, tiny indy promotion tied to the also fading, depleted NWA. Beyond that tenuous NWA connection, there was no baggage attached to the promotion. TNA has this crazy, bloated, higher-paid roster of (in some cases) primadonnas. Unless Heyman gets free reign to literally fire anyone, including Hogan, Bischoff, Flair, etc., I don't see why he'd take the job.

There are few events I could think of wrestling wise that I wish I could see just for random purposes...

The idea of being in the same room with Brock and Goldberg to watch that match would probably rank up there with sitting in on creative when they decided to run with the Katie Vick angle, the Mae Young birth of a hand, and the entire last weeks of Nitro.

I bet you they didn't even really talk about the match...probably just laughed and spoke about how they hated someone or something backstage

Ego can be an awful master to serve. Contrary to what I would have expected, though, it doesn't appear that Heyman is letting his ego force him to do one more thing just to show he still has "it."

Watching the UFC pre-show on Spike last night, I felt that tinge to order the PPV at the last moment, like if I didn't, I was going to miss something *huge*. You know that feeling - that horrible tugging in your brain, where one side says "dude, you gotta watch this," and the other says "that's one hella fucking expensive show, hombre."

It speaks a lot to professional wrestling that I don't remember feeling that anytime in the past several years - possibly going as far back as WMXX for the WWE's formal shows, and ECW One Night Stand in 2005.

I agree. The "WHAAATTT!?" chant has been out of context for years now. I do patiently await the return of a wrestler who can get you suck chants during his entrance. Kurt Angle really did have the best music ever.

yoshi tatsu just did three knife edge chops to primo in a match taped for superstars.. so.. either that rumor was bs or yoshi's gonna get FE'd

Heels vs Faces????

WHOA!

.....Can't be Stone Cold...I got a feeling the real swerve character will be a huge let down

they're keeping the e-mail angle going during commercials by using it to announce the next match.

they just showed kid rock's performance at last year's wm.. weird.
Also, the lights blinking is a nice touch...
More like an annoying touch to make an already annoying touch even more annoying.

How is it that Khali gets these huge pops by doing nothing???
