WWE didn't move J.R. because they think he's a "top drawing star' (which he isn't) - they did it show who's the boss. Raw was full of Vince just proving that HE is the king, and we saw that with the draft and the show-closing angle, which turned not only that show into the Vince show, but also ECW, which opened with the Vince angle, instead of with the news that it had either lost ITS WORLD CHAMPION or that Punk was traded to Raw.

I'm looking forward to the Foley-J.R. announce team, but the trade was clearly a dick move, and it'll probably be one that backfires on them to a degree, like all the other ones they've done against J.R. (including when they did one that led to Austin no-showing a Taboo Tuesday '05, Dr. Hiney getting a huge backlash, or trying to have Coach and Styles replace J.R., which also failed).

We haven't had one of these in a while:

We already know they will face Kevin Steen & El Generico on 8/2 in Manhattan. Now on 8/1 they are not only wrestling one of ROH's best teams, but ROH's two aces. 8/1 in Manassas will have Shelley & Sabin vs. Bryan Danielson & Austin Aries!!! This one is particularly interesting because it re-ignites and Aries vs. Shelley feud. Get your tickets now at ROHwrestling.com.

June 26th: The Honky Tonk Man will be at the ROH event this Saturday in Chicago signing autographs. Yes, that Honky Tonk Man.

June 26th: This looks to be a very important weekend for Sweet & Sour Inc. led by Larry Sweeney. Tomorrow night in Dayton he will have a chance to manage the first ever ROH World and NWA World Heavyweight Champion. This would give Sweeney an extraordinary amount of leverage and leave him in firm control. Not only that, but he is hopeful that Chris Hero can eliminate Roderick Strong before Strong becomes a thorn in his side. Sweeney has stated that Hero will out wrestle and then knock Strong out. Chicago this Saturday will see Sweeney introduce his newest client as he is faced with two enemies in Brent Albright & Roderick Strong. Sweeney says his office voicemail tomorrow will offer a clue as to who the mystery man is, but no one has even come close to guessing it correctly. Is Sweet & Sour Inc. the dominant force in ROH? We'll find out after this weekend.

What is with Moose's new look? I'm hoping it was just for that street fight type match, but they have her a white trash/hillbilly look with torn jeans, frazzled (and dyed) hair, and possibly "missing" teeth. She also has a new theme that starts out with "I hate bimbos", which I have never heard her say before.

Not a great showing from TNA, but it had some good stuff on it (like the world X cup match and the opener). The show started off nicely, with AJ facing Creed in a glorified squash that showcased some of Creed's moves and vastly expanded his character in a way that not only helped him, but helped the match, and it also allowed AJ to be rebuilt as a serious wrestler...and then they rendered the match meaningless with a post-match angle with JB (who couldn't be hurt) and hyped up that Karen was returning tonight and Kurt was waiting for her.

For one thing, how is this a return? SHE WAS ON THE SHOW LAST WEEK! For another, why did the show have to be titled "Karen's Return"? It was main evented by the world title program (thankfully) and that feud needs all the help it can get to draw interest in the Victory Road PPV since it's largely been a Nash-Joe feud, with Booker as a supporting character.

I'm not a fan of them having the Trigg-AJ-Angle stuff done right before the X cup match's entrances, as it made the world X Cup seem unimportant. At least Tenay didn't try to rattle off a thousand things related to this tourney over the course of a single match - a single mention of round 2 being next week, singles matches-only, and each match win being worth 2 points sufficed.

The actual match was good-ish, but not as impressive as the MMGs-Speed Muscle match from 2 weeks ago (which was referenced by Tenay, but not shown in clips - instead, we just saw a shot of a CGI Mexican flag waving for a few seconds). The matches for this World X Cup have been pretty good so far, but it clearly means nothing given how little airtime it gets compared to nearly everything else going on in the company.

Very wrestling-lean show today, and the non-wrestling stuff wasn't all that great, although I did enjoy some of the signs (especially one that says TNA is the company of the future...with Nash in the main event of tonight's show) and skits. The segment with Booker showing off his locker room (complete with sushi, a pimp coat for Booker, and a photo of Booker T punching Ali) was very entertaining stuff.

The Angelina Love video was...something. They kind of booked themselves into a corner by having one of these things on a heel, because they had to put her heel act in it, but by doing so, they took away some of the appeal of these videos (mainly seeing the wrestlers out of character and act like humans for a change). Love's gaudy makeup didn't help things either - it looks like she took Homer Simpson's makeup gun, set it to "whore" and aimed it somewhere in the general direction of her face.

I dug the stuff she and Velvet did to Karen. However, that segment itself was too busy, as they had that going on, and Trigg-AJ in the ring, and alternated between full screen and split screen stuff for each, with the audio sometimes being heard for one thing but not being heard for another. The cutting was also far too fast here, and made it more difficult to follow than it should've been.

The Matt Morgan video accomplished even less than it did last week, which at least got over his athletic gifts. This one was too brief to really accomplish anything, but it did at least bring up his involvement with Tough Enough (which I'd completely forgotten about), and stated that he'd been a fan since he was 5. Nothing in this video made me intrigued by his character or made me want to see him in the ring again.

The idea of a "knockout bimbo brawl" annoys me as the knockouts are supposed to be the best women's wrestlers in the world, the "bimbo" moniker should be beneath them, and this was just every WWF hardcore match from '99, but with women involved instead of men. Moose new look is an improvement over her prior 6th grade gym wear, but still looks...off for her.

The match wasn't particularly good, but had some memorable spots (like Moose Knuckles falling like a tree after a shovel to the head). I would've preferred that as the finish since it was so memorable, but that would've gotten in the way of the planned story with her winning, so I can see why they didn't do that. At least they didn't have kick out of that and then get pinned by the shoulder-mount powerslam onto a chair.

Kong's challenge segment was productive - the match was no great shakes, but it led to Taylor vs. Saeed next week (which was stated by Cornette during an arguement with Taylor that couldn't be heard even with him having a mic in his hand due to some audio issues), and logically, that'll lead up to her facing Kong for the title, and since she came the closest of any of the "fans" to actually beating Kong the first time, she'll probably beat her in their second match. I'm glad to see that TNA had a plan with this angle - i was concerned last week, but TNA put those concerns to rest tonight.

The stuff with Christian, Ray and the "glass table" was well-executed. TNA did a far better job of getting over the supposed damage caused by this than they usually do with any of these risky stunts - they didn't go TO THE BACK, or act like nothing happened - it was played as a major event on the show, it was replayed, Don and Mike didn't yell over it, and they allowed the moment to breathe.

Then Eric Young came out dressed like a goofball... that kinda hurt it a bit. The segment worked at getting over 3D's promise to destroy the face acts in TNA, but given that this was such a big deal, it probably should've been saved for a PPV, although since they did give it away here, I hope it at least leads to something big for the Victory Road show.

The Dutt-Val-Lethal love triangle continued tonight with the amusing new GURU-ITES as part of Dutt's act being the highlight, as they swindled the fans out of cash, AND have a name so insane that even Don and Mike mocked it. Lethal's character being rageful worked at giving Val a reason to not want to marry him, but my goodness was her acting horrible here.

The main event was about what I expected - nothing special, but a match that worked at building up the Victory Road main event, and seemingly more importantly, the impending match between Joe and a guy with two bum wheels that will likely be several notches below what Joe is capable of match-quality wise (although Angle did get a good match out of Nash fairly recently, and I expect Joe to be able to do the same - I just don't high hopes for it being a great match like Joe's capable of having.).

Joe - That’s the million dollar question (he slaps Nash’s knee) Oops, was that the bad one? Aren’t they both bad? Watching a little Skinemax on the boob tube…
Nash - You still got your fake kick pads? Little Judo Gene Lebell? The last thing you wanna do at this stage in your career is waste energy - it’s time to conserve it. Whadya think Booker’s doing? Jumping jacks? Jumping rope? No. The game is mental, not physical. (JB then magically appears beside Kong during her entrance 20 seconds later)

Tenay - Frank Trigg!? WHAT’S HE DOING HERE!?
DW - WALKING DOWN TO THE RING WITH A MICROPHONE!
Trigg - AJ, you and I last week had a bit of a misunderstanding. Whether it was mistaken identity really doesn’t bother me - what bothers me is that you hit my ass from behind! I don’t know if that’s how you do it in Gainesville vocational, but in my world, the MMA world, we handle things face to face. Get your candy ass out here, or just send Karen out and she can fight your battles again. Mikey, where’s your boy? What’s the problem? (AJ comes out, camera goes TO THE BACK with Karen and Kurt)

I Pledge Allegiance to TNA : The Company of the Future

NJPW - 3/21/02 - Eddie Guerrero/Black Tiger/Jado/Gedo vs. Minoru Tanaka/El Samurai/Katsuyori Shibata/Wataru Inoue
Angle blew his knee out again, but he's still wrestling (with a massive brace on).
Looks like TNA needs to send him home to heal. I don't think they want a headline in the news saying that one of their wrestlers died in the ring due to the company ignoring his injuries.

Lance Cade is said to become a top heel on RAW very soon. Writers are trying to figure out how to package him for his push. After turning on Trevor Murdoch a month ago, Cade has now aligned himself with Chris Jericho. The plan is to have him become a Main Event heel on RAW, and his partnership with Jericho is step one.

Yeaaaaahhhhh, good luck with that.

Top heel? Are they running that low on heels that they're giving lame ass wrestlers a push? I put Cade in the same boat as Haas, as they're both yawn inducing.

He was a perfectly acceptable heel on Raw - not quite main event-level, but it was his first promo during this push. They at least changed his look up, and I'm glad to see WWE at least take A chance and elevate a guy.

Screens from the Thursday night/Friday morning AWA show -
Larry Nelson is...

a little teapot...

...and the thinker.

YAY!

ALL HAIL MY PERM

Not sure how Cade will work out, but I gotta give them some credit for at least trying to mix things up and give someone a chance to elevate themselves. I hope it works out well so maybe in the future they won't be so afraid to add more people to the main event mix.

What everyone else said.

I realize that no one is sold on Cade as a top heel but at least it's a new face. I'm happy to see them (hopefully) give someone newish a chance to shine. It also helps that he isn't a giant ala Khali or Mark Henry. He should be able to put together some good matches.

Seriously, I don't see Cade going over face or heel... I'm still hoping that Punk can cash in the MiTB case and turn heel.

I'd have to say the draft was effective enough. I know I haven't watched Smackdown in years, and yet here I am on Friday night. JR and Foley are actually really good announce team from what I've heard thus far.

SmackDown was shockingly boring for a LANDSCAPE HAS CHANGED!!!! episode of SD. Matt-Edge was easily the best thing on the show (aside from Foley pointing out that Batista can't beat La Familia, leading to HHH killing them dead in seconds), but the rest of this show was mostly boring, like many recent SD shows.

The main event was worlds better than the Umaga-Batista match at WM, but wasn't anything special aside from the Umaga dropkick/thrust kick. That Umaga hype video was fabulous - it shows me that they're serious about pushing him. I just hope it isn't being done so they can knock him right back down the card again.

The lack of follow-up on the whole "MVP wants to leave SD" angle aside from it being mentioned on commentary was disappointing, and I don't like him losing this week, although it does at least make sense booking-wise, as this concludes the latest chapter in Kane vs. MVP.

J.R. and Foley worked well together - better than Cole and Foley, and I loved J.R.'s slight dig at HHH on commentary. Miz and Morrison pointing towards Finlay, then pointing down at Hornswoggle was a fine moment as well.

Rey's goodbye speech was nice, and I loved seeing Batista come out to say goodbye - their chemistry together is incredible, and it continued tonight. The Rey-Hornswoggle scene was amusing, but man did Rey ever look short by standing right next to Hornswoggle. Hornswoggle waving goodbye to him was a nice little touch though. Given that Rey is apparently upset about being moved to Raw, I'm sure there was quite a ring of truth to his promo about wanting his existing fans to move over with him to Raw.

Quotes -
Vickie - On Monday, there was…an accident…that involved the World…Wrestling…Entertainment Chairman Mr. McMahon, being severely injured… On behalf of my family, I’d like to extend our well-wishes, thoughts and prayers to Mr. McMahon and his family. Mr. McMahon, I sincerely hope that you aren’t confined to a wheelchair, like I am, for the rest of your days. You are my champion, and everyone here on SD wishes you a speedy recovery. I know he wouldn’t want us to focus on the negatives, but the positives of our lives! For example, my wedding is coming up! And thanks to the draft, SD was solidified as THE DOMINANT BRAND in WWE. Let’s welcome the new voice of SD, GOOD OL’ JR!
Foley - I know emotions were mixed, a bit…raw on Monday, but I wanna welcome you to SmackDown.
J.R. - I got a good night’s sleep, but we’re gonna take SmackDown to new heights! (HHH’s theme hits) and here’s one of the reasons - maybe the main reason! The 12 time WWE Champion - on his way to a hall of fame career!
J.R. - We’ve got a full house tonight, Mick!
Foley - Yes, and although they bought tickets to see other superstars
J.R. - One of the most anticipated main events in WWE history
HHH - What a difference a day can make, huh? Just a few days ago, Vince was just a crazy guy giving away millions on TV, and I was top dog on Raw, and now, just a few days later, Vince is…still crazy. I don’t think he’s gonna be giving away a million dollars for a while, and his whole world came crashing down around him…or on him, and for the first time in six years, I’m a member of the SD roster. While things change, they stay the same - I’m comforted by that. I see friendly faces like Mick Foley, with his always keen sense of style and impeccable hygiene. I look next to him at the always smiling, joyous face of Jim Ross - the greatest announcer in the history of this business. I mean it when I say it - if I could pick one guy to bring over here, it would be you. The biggest thing that comforts me is when I look around here - it doesn’t matter if you’re an SD fan or Raw fan, you’re all part of the WWE UNIVERSE! AND AS LONG AS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU IS HERE, THEN I’M HOME! But, okay, all right, enough with the blatant sucking up! Let’s get to the blatant shilling - LIVE, THIS SUNDAY, AND ONLY ON PPV, IT’S NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS! WHERE I WILL DEFEND THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST THE ONE AND ONLY JOHN CENA! AND I’LL TELL ALL OF YOU WHAT I TOLD HIM - until you take this from me, Cena, you are nothing! So let me just say…(Edge’s theme hits)
J.R. - Well, this is gonna be an interesting development - the WWE Champion is in the ring, and here comes the heavyweight champion of the world. This dichotomy is somewhat…combustible.
Foley - He’s not only the world champion, but he’s also the fiance of GM Vickie Guerrero.
(Edge and HHH stand in the ring)J.R. - Something we’ve never seen before - and may never see again by the way.
Edge - This is special - this is big! The world heavyweight and WWE Champions here together on SD - we’re the cream of the crop - the best of the best! And I’ve heard everyone saying that we can’t co-exist - me, I beg to differ with that. I think we can get along - I know we can!
HHH - I can see that, and while I appreciate your positive thinking, I see some major problems with your theory. One is that you and I each have massive egos. And I can see that by looking at you right now that mine is much bigger than yours! Secondly, after this Sunday, I’ll still be WWE Champion, but you…
Edge - I see where you’re going - you think I’m gonna lose my title at NoC. That’s what ya think? Well, you said it’s been a while since you’ve been here, I’ll give you a history lesson - when it comes to world title matches between myself and Batista - he’s never beaten me. When I think back to your one-on-one match with Cena, what happened? YOU TAPPED OUT! Lemme give ya another lesson, okay? You talked about this being home? THIS IS MY HOUSE! This is my show! And I suggest you do what everyone else around here does - that’s respect me! And…(Batista comes out)
J.R. - Business may be picking up here on Friday Night Smackdown!
Foley - YES, I’VE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR YOU SAY THAT, J.R.
(HHH tosses Edge out to Batista, who spears him)J.R. - HOLY EVOLUTION! SHADES OF EVOLUTION!
J.R. - It’ll be a Night of Champions, but no bigger than the world and WWE Titles!
J.R. - The legendary Rey Mysterio - his fingerprints all over SD - will make his final appearance here tonight.
J.R. - Kane has not have an auspicious week - he was drafted to Monday Night Raw, but it was not a moment he would like to relive.
(as Show and Kane are in the ring)Foley - There’s a lot of beef in the ring.
J.R. - They can sure eat a lot of BBQ.
Foley - I know a good place for them to do that.
J.R. - MVP is certainly the cagiest cat in the cage.
Foley - MVP is pursuing a change of brand - unheard of in WWE!
J.R. - In 30 plus years in this business, I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone as physically impressive as the Big Show.
Foley - Mark Henry has more confidence in the ring than he did when I was doing battle with him many years ago.
Foley - Over my weeks on SD, I’ve seen MVP’s big kick knockout many a big superstar.
Foley - With the draft bonanza, Vickie could think that we don’t need MVP as much as he thinks.
(Umaga highlight video airs…then Hornswoggle’s jolly theme hits)
J.R. - The new WWE Magazine is… FILLED WITH POSTERS! That makes it a collector’s item as far as I’m concerned.
Foley - Hornswoggle and Finlay are looking forward to be the first father-son WWE Tag Team champions.
J.R. - There were the Garavaldies, but that was back in the ‘40s.
Foley - That’s why I said WWE Tag Team Champions.
J.R. - Finlay is a throwback to the old-school way. Finlay, a second-generation star. Hornswoggle, a third-generation star.
Foley - I’m begging to see the Miz beaten by Hornswoggle.
J.R. - Of course, the most famous Irishman in WWE history is Mr. McMahon - we wish we could give you more information, but his family isn’t releasing much information. HHH knows him pretty well though.
J.R. - When Finlay his an opponent with the Celtic Cross, it is devastating.
J.R. - Edge versus Matt Hardy - it’s personal, it’s professional, and IT’S NEXT!
J.R. - Has anyone done more to establish the identity of Friday Night SmackDown than the legendary Rey Mysterio?
J.R. - Matt Hardy carrying on the tradition of being U.S. champion, like legends Ric Flair and Greg “the Hammer” Valentine, and he’ll do it Tuesday nights on Sci-Fi.
Foley - Boy does Edge look naked without his championship.
J.R. - I’d rather not visualize Edge naked, but that’s your purgative.
J.R. - Matt Hardy almost got the u…I almost said upset, but would this really be an upset?
Foley - I’d consider it a minor one, as Edge has been on a major roll. Albeit with a bit of help from Vickie Guerrero.
J.R. - The enziguri - the head kick in Japanase.
Foley - Matt going for another backslide, I’ve won many a match with!!!! Nah, I’ve never won a match a backslide.
Foley - In the words of Get Smart, starring our own Great Khali, he missed it by that much!
J.R. - Matt Hardy thinking moonsault - found canvas. Bad result.
J.R. - The American Airlines Center is sold out for Night of Champions - to my friends in Dallas, I HAVE NO TICKETS!
Foley - Literally, there has never been a bigger ECW Championship match than what we will see this Sunday.
J.R. - I’m looking forward to seeing how you commentate this divas match, because my former partner has a…unique way of doing it.
Foley - Yeah, I’m not out to emulate that…
J.R. - Six-divas tag…there’s a method to our GM’s alleged madness.
Foley - Yes, she’s picking out someone to face Natalya Neidhart for the Divas championship.
Foley - Michelle McCool’s made an impact on me over the past few weeks.
J.R. - Yes, I’ve heard that on commentary. It’s all over the airwaves.
Foley - Out of respect for you, I won’t recite a poem for her…tonight.
J.R. - Kelly Kelly breaking out the chaps…
Foley - Remember when I wore those?
J.R. - You never, ever wore anything like that.
Foley - I might break them out for Night of Champions.
J.R. - Kelly Kelly, Cherry Cherry…
Foley - Speaking of divas that have had an effect on me, Melina has a fractured heel - I wish her all the best.
Foley - Look at Natalya Neidhart - when you’re swimming in that kind of gene pool, something’s gotta give.
J.R. - Her dad was a world class-shotputter, former tag team champion, former member of the Hart Foundation.
Foley - One of the most legendary factions of all-time.
Foley - Vickie’s looking at the monitor while looking for a wedding dress.
J.R. - She’s multi-tasking.
Foley - Natalya’s used the Sharpshooter to win on a regular basis.
J.R. - The Sharpshooter made famous by her uncle, Bret “the Hitman Hart”.
Foley - Michelle’s mastered the Brazillian heel hook - think she got it from Eve Torres?
J.R. - Yeah…
Foley - We need to see Kelly is more of those chaps! Just trying to give ya a bit of Lawler here.
J.R. - Cherry Cherry got the tag!
J.R. - Maryse…
Foley - It’s “Malyse”, I learned the hard way.
J.R. - I’ll work on that.
J.R. - That Rock DVD ad reminded me of the Rock ‘n Sock Connection.
Foley - I’d be glad to reminisce with you, but we’ve got a very physical match coming up here. I’ve become very educated at the history of Sambo, at the insistence of Kozlov.
Foley - Last week, Jamie Noble, a very tough competitor, was left gasping for air for several minutes and had to be helped to the back.
Foley - I’ve never seen the head used as a weapon like Kozlov uses it.
Foley - Every week, I try to make a note of wrestlers on SD who mesh well with Kozlov, and it’s a short list.
J.R. - Nothing pretty about the offensive onslaught of Kozlov, and one thing about that is that it doesn’t lead to many mistakes - it’s essentially error-free wrestling. The Moscow Mauler continues to win! We may be seeing the development of one of the truly great superstars in time.
Foley - I don’t know of anyone who has woven themselves into the SmackDown fabric like Rey Mysterio.
J.R. - I think Michael Cole should wear a Rey Mysterio mask this Monday on Raw.
Foley - That’s a sight I’d love to see.
J.R. - It’d be a tribute to Rey.
Foley - I’ve known Rey since he was a teen, and I’m so proud to see him at the top.
J.R. - He’s been wrestling since he was 14 years of age - look at where he is now.
Rey - WHAT IS IT H-TOWN!? Ya know, 6 years ago, I came to SD with my head full of dreams and expectations. And thanks to all of your support, I was able to become cruiserweight champion, to become tag team champion, and to become what we all love the most - world heavyweight champion! Is this where my journey ends? (fans say no) SD will always have a place in my heart along with all of you guys. I’m headed for competition. I’m heading for Raw. Lemme tell you, I invite you to accompany me on this journey to take down some of the greatest athletes in Raw! I invite you to help me fulfill more of those dreams that I once had when I stepped into SD. (Batista comes out)
J.R. - Rey and Batista are as close as partners.
Foley - It’ll be hard to imagine what this show will be like without these two, but we’ll press on.
Foley - Umaga reminds me of Afa and Sika when they were tag team champions - but they didn’t have the speed and agility of Umaga.
Foley - To the best of my knowledge, no WWE superstar has ever come back from the Samoan spike.
J.R. - GOOD LORD, WHAT FLEXIBITY!
Foley - HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A DROPKICK FROM UMAGA BEFORE?!
J.R. - I think that was more of a thrust kick.
Foley - If I was a superstar, I’d have my eyes glued to the monitor and I’d stare in disbelief.
J.R. - Umaga is doing damage that can’t heal in just three days!
Foley - Umaga isn’t a mindless beast - I’ve seen enough of him to know that there’s a thought process behind his actions.
Foley - As is so often the case, Batista can’t handle the numbers game of La Familia! (HHH runs down and kills them)

Good stuff! :)

I'm sure Jay will have shots from the AWA show last night. But it was kinda of nice show which started with a very thin Paul E. Dangerously in pink spenders managing the Midnight Express.

THE ULTIMATE RETURN!!! - Ultimate Warrior vs. Orlando Jordan for the NWE "World" Heavyweight title -
http://www.sendspace.com/file/fguy9d

The match goes about 10 minutes, with Warrior busting out something I never recall him doing even in his prime - a superplex. Otherwise, it's basically what one would expect from a 50 year-old Warrior match - he gasses really quickly and his offense looks bad (especially the finish), but good lord is ever over in this thing. Orlando Jordan comes off like a big star here as well - he's developed a great, believable arrogant charisma since leaving WWE and he did as good a job as possible to make Warrior look good.

One sad thing about this match (aside from Warrior's missing pecs) is that Warrior's knees appear to be completely shot - he's got the huge Kobashi knee pads underneath his more flamboyant ones, he couldn't really even do his run down to the ring, or go around the apron without looking bad, he couldn't really get up for the flying shoulder block either, and they had to bring two kids into the ring before the match to help Warrior catch his breath before the match began. Cosmetically, he looked okay, but he clearly wasn't in ring shape, and if anyone wants to bring him in for another match, it should be a tag match.

The Thursday/Friday show was the first time I'd ever heard of or seen DJ Peterson, and after initially wondering "Wow, Scott Hall got really tan, ripped, and lanky in a year!" after getting used to his '86 look, I was very impressed by how swift Peterson was, and how precise he moved in the ring. I was quite sad to read after watching his match that he'd been dead for many years, as he seemed to have the raw talent to go somewhere beyond the AWA mid-card.

The Friday/Saturday show had Steve-O being the squasher, which shocked me. I loved how he executed the airplane spin - after never seeing it as a finisher and just seeing it basically a comedy spot from the '90s on, I was pleasantly surprised to see it not only done as a finisher, but done in a believable manner - he spun him just enough to daze the foe severely but not himself, then just chucked him down with all his might and covered him immediately - fine stuff. I loved the background info they gave for Steve-O as well.

This was one entertaining show. Bockwinkel stating that THE EVIL RUSSIANS were going to the Montana state fair to sign autographs was great. What fantastic heels they are. Also, Larry Zybsko comparing himself to George Washington and Abe Lincoln because they were honest (and Abe made an honest decision that POed the South) was...something. It was amusing, but not quite as funny as the '86 Larry Z interview where he knocked over Larry Nelson, who kicked upwards on the ground like a turtle on his back and yelled AAAAHHHHH!

The main event was pretty much nothing, but I loved Bockwinkel questioning the logic of Boris having a giant handle on the back of his head. The Nasty Boys wearing yellow and black skin-tight attire was quite a disturbing visual, but it was enjoyable to see their early days. It was more enjoyable to see them struggle to beat enhancement talent like the Stoney guy who was on this show twice thanks to the miracle of recycled matches and Jeff Jarrett, who was 208 pounds here, and is significantly heftier now.

Quotes -
Nelson - We’ve got some new wrestlers here in the AWA - not new to the sport, but to the AWA. We’ve got Ravishing Randy and Loverboy Dennis, the ORIGINAL Midnight Express, with Paul E. Dangerous as their manager. Former NWA World champion, Tommy “Wildfire” Rich is here, and you’re gonna love his style!
Paul E. - ON BEHALF OF THE DANGEROUS ALLIANCE, I PRESENT TO YOU “LOVERBOY” DENNIS AND “RAVISHING” RANDY - THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS!
(on Condrey)Trongard - I’ve never seen anyone wrestle with a kerchief around his neck before.
Bockwinkel - I believe that’s foolish, but it is a personal choice.
Trongard - I talked to Paul E. before and he said “they are from the dark side”, I asked where that is, and he said “I dunno.”.
Zbysko - I think it’s something that when you look at all the great men throughout history - like George Washington, who gives the best advice he could, then there’s Abe Lincoln, who gave the best advice he could that likely still upsets the South. THEN THERE’S ME, I GAVE THE UNDERDOG THE BEST ADVICE I COULD, AND THE WHOLE COUNTRY HATES ME! Unlike them, I’m not gonna bow down to some spud heads! THERE’S GEORGE, THERE’S ABE, AND THERE’S ZBYSKO!!
Al DeRusha - Scott, how’s the arm?
Scott - Better - but I’m here for Larry Zbysko.
Al - UH OH!!!!
Trongard - The NWA/AWA SuperClash - COMING SOON FROM JARRETT PROMOTIONS!
Bockwinkel - I believe that’ll be the 10th, 11th, and 12th of August.
Trongard - Besides wrestling, Steve Olsonoski’s also got some other businesses, including tanning and pizza, and he’s a financial adviser just like his father.
Bockwinkel - There’s padding over the buckle, but it’s tightly-wrapped - it’s like a boxing glove.
Rick Gatner - HE’S HURTIN’ MY LEGGGG!!!
Bockwinkel - You can’t hit the floor easily - men are not cats, women are not…well, women might be…
Trongard - WOOOAAHHHH!
Bockwinkel - I’ve known Wahoo for many years, and he’s one of the toughest men on the entire planet!
Bockwinkel - Wahoo has the most brutal judo chop in wrestling - I’ve seen him chop blood right out of an opponent’s chest.
Trongard - The Nasty Boys…they have a way to get NASTY!
Trongard - Knobs and Sags think that just because Jarrett’s only 208 pounds, they can throw him around the ring!
Trongard - The Nasty Boys took the easy way out against Stoney Burke and Jeff Jarrett! Knobs intentionally throwing either Burke or Jarrett, I can’t remember…it was Burke OVER THE TOP ROPE TO THE FLOOR!
Al DeRusha - WEIGHINING IN AT 235 POUNDS, TOMMY WILDFIRE RICH!
Bockwinkel - Tommy Rich is one of the biggest names in our sport!
Trongard - He won the NWA World Heavyweight championship from “Handsome” Harley Race! He’s single and loves the ladies.
Bockwinkel - Jerry Jarrett trained him, and I think he’s very proud of what he did.
Bockwinkel - One of the great things about wrestling is the chess match - if you know a man’s going to go for something, and you’re on your game, you can counter it!
Rich - FIRE IT UP, JOHNNY DONE TOLD ME HOW GOOD IT WAS! DA AWA, YA GOT DA CHIEF, WAHOO MCDANIEL I’M TALKING ‘BOUT! THEN YOU GOT THE RUSSIANS, I’M A GOOD AMERICAN BOY, I AIN’T THOUGHT ABOUT THEM MUCH! THE AWA HAS SOME OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD! I’M A LITTLE TIRED NOW, BUT THANKS TO ALL THE LADIES AND THE RASSLIN’ FANS FOR HAVING ME HERE! FIRE HIM UP BABY!
Trongard - Brad Paisley - one of the people who puts it all together here!
Nelson - Send your cards to me, ESPN, Polish Joe, or anyone else around here and you could be the fan of the week! We’ll send you a Ninja Star Wars game!

NoC predictions -

Batista vs. Edge - I see Edge winning this, as there's far more for him to do with this belt than for HHH to do with the WWE Title on SD since SD is now loaded with possible top-level face challengers beyond the Undertaker.

HHH vs. Cena - This match had no buzz before this week, and somehow has less because of how little it's been mentioned in the past week on WWE TV. Cena winning would take the belt back to Raw, but he doesn't deserve the belt right now. HHH's reign didn't help the Raw rating one bit, but I'd rather see him contend for the Big Gold than this belt. Punk coming out at the end of this to challenge the winner (or cashing in MITB before the match to make it a triple thread) would easily freshen up the WWE Title scene, but he should win it with some build behind it, not out of nowhere.

ECW Title - Mark Henry vs. Big Show vs. Kane - Show deserves far better than holding the ECW Title right now, and with Kane going to Raw (and the ECW/Raw tapings apparently being nixed), I can see Mark Henry winning, possibly pinning Show since he pinned Kane last week, and having him with by pinning him would be redundant.

U.S. Title - Matt Hardy vs. Chavo - Completely dead title match. The U.S. title is largely worthless right now, but Hardy shouldn't lose the belt (especially after just jobbing to Edge on SD) and Chavo isn't anywhere near over enough to warrant holding this belt. Matt via Twist of Fate, possibly after thwarting La Familia shenanigans.

World Tag Title - Cody/Holly vs. DiBiase Jr./MYSTERY MAN - Cody turns on Holly, ending this horrid team and allowing Cody to further show off his personality as a heel. Hopefully short, and I hope it allows the Raw tag titles to remotely mean something again. As an aside, it's scary how much DiBiase Jr. looks like his father did in Mid-South, sans beard.

WWE Tag Title - Miz 'n Morrison vs. Finlay/Hornswoggle - Miz and Morrison should win this thing, as Finlay and Hornswoggle haven't been built up anywhere near enough to give them the belts, and Hornswoggle's time as a really over act has seemingly passed. The only upsides I see to MnM losing is that kids will get behind Hornswoggle as tag champ, and Finlay will get another title in WWE. Those upsides pale in comparison to Miz and Morrison losing the belts to what is basically a comedy act six months into a fine title reign that SHOULD continue.

Women's title - Mickie vs. Katie Lea - Mickie wins. No one cares.

Diva's title - Natalya vs. (likely) Michelle McCool - Natalya wins, then Michelle/Kelly/Maria lose to her for eons.

IC title - Jericho vs. MYSTERY MAN - HBK being the mystery opponent would make sense story-wise, but good lord would it ever be stupid to give this away on PPV without any time to hype it up. Jericho vs. Kofi, which would likely have Jericho losing unless HBK got involved, could be a good match, but if Kofi loses, it just establishes that he's below the IC belt - not a good way to START on a brand.

What a cold PPV this is - and that's after it got MORE interesting because of the draft.

After reading that PPV lineup, I needed something to laugh at, so I decided to listen to the Bryan and Vinny Show on F4WOnline dedicated to the Christmas Impact with the BARB WIRE CHRISTMAS TREE match, and featuring a reading of that Impact script that leaked online -

Today's Observer site news update, with info on Jeff Hardy possibly being the Jericho opponent, more on the divas title match being canceled, and more on Bret Hart acting like a dick at a Hall of Fame show last night - http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/5837/105/

Thanks for Ultimate Warrior versus Orlando Jordan, Jay. :D

And I will mark out if Scott Hall is again lanky, fit, and not chubby. Chubby Hall was creeping me out, to be honest. He doesn't even need his signature hair, he just needs to be scruffy and fit.

I actually would've ordered it, but to the best of my knowledge, RCN doesn't offer HD PPV, and there's no way I'm going to pay for a SD feed.
anyone got that live feed link?
yeah what he said!

Should I pay and go see smackdown its coming to atl? I haven't seen smackdown in well ever! I haven't actually watched a full wrestling show either since chris benniot.

free pay per views rule. thank you.

God the miz sucks! Go back to MTV!

Oh please let finly and hornshoggle win! That would be great. The belt would be bigger then him!

Well, that was a good opener. The finish was a little simple, but Finlay and Hornswoggle did well. Even though I heavily dislike The Miz, I liked how JR and Foley built-up Miz and Morrison by mentioning their "maturation process over the past year."

I have to say, I really like JR being on Smackdown. He sounds re-energized and seems to be pushing wrestling ability over heel/face mechanics. I just wish he would play off Mick some more, Mick throws him perfect quips and JR just ignores them and continues calling.

Mick Foley's hyping himself yet bringing a little pro-wrestling history to WWE. Considering history is not acknowledged by WWE, it is weird, but appreciated.

Thanks for the feed. It's choppy for me but better than nothing. I do wish the chat room was disabled because its giving me digital aids. Its like a constantly updating Youtube comments section. Ugh.

You should do what I do (using Opera), cascade the windows and than resize them.

Get to use the forums and watch the PPV at the same time.

beat ya to it chase. I think we will be seeing that one again right ;)

lost the feed.

i wonder if mark henry can still pull a bus with his nut sack???

Crap. It was working fine up until I hit pause to get a better look at that ECW title that looks more like the old Cruiserweight title, and now it says it's not broadcasting. :(

Nevermind. It just came back on.

Well, it's a nifty move - if Chavo stops botching it. ;) :)
