I'm digging this one. I think a few of the events need some tweaking but overall it moves fast and is a fun show.

I wonder if they'll pare down a few gladiators after the initial season and add new ones/etc as they did in the original. Militia seems like a bit of a dud.

Anyway a few of the events that need tweaking/cut IMO:

Hit & Run (The bridge they run back and forth on while gladiators sling bags at them) - Stupid & Boring.

Hang Tough - Course is too short, plus it could partially be that the gladiators don't really have much more practice then the contestants in these first few contests so they haven't developed any sort of edge. Just seems too easy currently, which I think is at least partially because the course is so short.

Assault - They've completly fucked this one up. I don't know if it's because they are using shitty NERF products or what? I do love the bit where the Gladiator goes flying if the target is hit however.

The Eliminator - Needs to have a time penalty for falling off the barrel roll or the hand bike. Barrel Roll not such a big deal but at this point it's quicker for a contestant to just immediatelly let go of the hand bike and climb up the little ladder across the gap. The overall course also seems possibly too difficult as the contenders all seem to be next to dead by the end, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing that needs to change. The best part of the original version were the paper walls at the end, some with a gladiator waiting to bar the way, some without. They got rid of that which sucks, but I'm assuming it's becuase they thought the risk of injury there was just too high.

Now it could be they are already developing new events/updates for current events and just are holding off on changing anything until the first round or first season is over.

I'm freaking thrilled they brought this back, it pretty much revived all my childhood memories from day 1. The only thing I don't really like overall is how much they talk. I understand they need a bit of filler, but seriously, I can very much see how someone would not be selected to compete if they weren't up to giving their life story after an event every time they got a mic in their face.

As for the events:

Hit & Run: Agreed. Boring, got a little interested when they mentioned the bags weighed 100 lbs each, but yeah.

Hang Tough: It definitely is too short, the gladiator hardly has a chance against anyone who can even remotely haul ass to the other side.

Assault: I still love assault, and I believe the Gladiator ammo is tennis balls at 100mph, with the contendor ammo still a type of hard plastic (not nerf).

The Wall: Starting platforms pull away? Watery pits? fuck yes.

Joust: It's Joust with water pits. Meh.

Earthquake: Interesting, and actually a bit cool since you can grab onto the cables if necessary.

Eliminator: I like this one a lot more, since they saved all the truly grueling obstacles for the end when each person is dead tired. I remember when the treadmill and hand bike were hauled across in the old days. Now they can barely make it. I agree that penalties are needed for failling off the bike, it's too easy to just drop and move on. Also, they probably banned it, but I'd like to see a contendor dive head first into the water and under the pipes, I figure it'd be faster and smarter. I also like that they removed the Gladiators, removing that bit of chance at the end, so now it's purely 1 on 1 between the contenders.

New Gladiators: According to Wikipedia, Titan was apparently involved with the original AG, and picked to be the headline Gladiator for this season (anyone else get the vibe he's a bit in the closet?). It's also nice to see a bit of diversity in the field of Gladiators (it's a bit of a gimmick, but I take possibly psycho gladiators "See: Wolf, Toa, and Militia" over your run of the mill "Jock" gladiators).

All in all, I'm looking forward to watching it every Monday night.

I always watch it on DVR and usually skip past the interviews after the first few blurbs. I guess that's part of why it's a show that moves so quickly for me. I'm not a fan of them jumping to commercial in the middle of events (i.e. one contestant just did Joust and they go to commercial just before the other one) but it's TV and they need a hook to keep people on the commercials I guess. Again doesn't make much of a difference when it's on DVR.

Take a close look next time. The gladiator's gun clearly has a NERF logo on it. Now I don't know if it's something you can actually buy in stores (doubt it) but I bet it's shooting nerf balls. Probably not the ultra soft squishy light nerf balls but some sort of nerf product?
Also, they probably banned it, but I'd like to see a contendor dive head first into the water and under the pipes, I figure it'd be faster and smarter.
Yeah we talked about that as well and decided they must have banned doing that. Probably the best moment of the show so far was the blonde chick busting her head open on the end pipe and then having the guts to complete the course w/ a bleeding gash on her head. Too bad she didn't pull it out.

I agree, overall the gladiators are pretty good. I definitely like the corny stuff with the gladiators acting like they are going to rip the heads off the contestants before each event. I'd say Mayhem is probably the most into that. (Sort of like Nitro from the original show.)

My favorite gladiators from the orignal were Nitro (total dick) and Gemini. I loved when Theisman would do the intro of Gemini explaining that just like the twins zodiac sign there are two sides to Gemini. As he talked Gemini would be smiling and happy and then quickly snap and start to snarl. Too funny.

Didn't know Titan was on the original.

I loved it when that white girl cracked her face on the metal pipe shooting flames out of it when she came up to breathe too soon. They didn't even interview her after the competition because she was getting her face looked at.

I'm still waiting for someone to overjump and land in the fire pipes.

Hey Wubb. Can you throw up a link to the main Gladiator page? That way we can look at the Gladiators' profiles and such. Muchas gracias!

Yeah she rules:)

The show is a disappointment. Gladiators are alright. The events though...

The event that they run around having to put the balls in the buckets. The old show the bucket opening was small so you needed to get to the bucket to get it in. Now they make the bucket HUGE so you just have to have ok aim and toss the ball in. Why bother?

The main issue is the contestants. They USED to get real athletes. Olympic caliber competitors. Now they are your generic Fear Factor type of wannabe athletes. Remember the days where the contestant would FLY thru the hand bike? Now these contestants cant even make it across. Why bother though, they dont get penalized for falling. Just have to jump up the mat and keep going.

It was good to watch when nothing else was on, now that Prison Break is back I wont be watching it anymore. ESPN Classic airs the REAL AG every Saturday anyways. So if you want to see some actual athletes competing check it out.

Thanks, Wubb!

Hellga is just fucking scary! She's kinda worthless in the Gauntlet. It seems like the smaller, faster ladies can blow right past her.

Do you agree that Crush is the hottest Gladiator?

Big fan of the show, bigger fan of crush.

WTF white girl smashed her face on firepipes? That sounds pretty freak nasty.

I like how the eliminator can turn everythign around, it really is anybody's game.

Wolf is probably on both, meth and pcp.

Helga --> Freak of nature.

I think during assault they should give both gladiators and contestants less-than-lethal bean bag guns riot police use.

So its on Mondays? I only saw one episode, how many have there been (two right?)

shieryda - Venom would be my pick, but Crush is up there. Although the main picture they have of Venom on the official site is horrible. http://www.nbc.com/American_Gladiators/bios/venom.shtml (Don't see how to hotlink to the image.) Also her voice is pitched on the high side so it's comical when she does more than just grunt 'Ready!'

Yeah based on just the photos I'd go with Crush in a landslide.

pitt - Yep Mondays. But they've shown four so far. The first episode was 2 hours (so two shows.) Then they aired a third the next night. So that made last night's epi the 4th hour. At least I think that's what they've aired.

Is it kinda lame that the Gladiators do the exact same "pose" when they signal that they're ready for each competition? Maybe it's just me, but I feel that they should kinda switch up what they do each time.

its a bit fruity too hollywood and way too pretty. i miss the way the old gladiators looked but i think the eliminator is awesome and some of those buff chicks aint too bad on the eyes either. too bad about that one guy doin gay porn though ewwwwwwwww. alot fo those gladiators talk too damn much and itd be better if jesse the body were hosting with tanya harding ( hulk hogan is annoying as fuck and layla ali makes me question my sexuality). hell scrap that get macho man to host it with dawn marie.

Hulk isn't bad, but yeah Jesse the Body would have been aces.

Try counting how many times Hulk says "brother" in a single sentence. I'm guessing his current record is 5 or 6.

What the hell ever happened to Macho Man? Last time I saw him, he was doing the Slim Jim commercials.

and thats why i hate the guy hes just so damn annoying like hes got tourettes and his tick is the word brother. not to mention hes so damn arrogant he still thinks hes the best wrestler ever. but that would make for a good drinking game though.
What the hell ever happened to Macho Man? Last time I saw him, he was doing the Slim Jim commercials.
i have no idea i wonder that myself last time i saw him i think he was in tna or maybe the wwe. he was always a favorite of mine but i quit watching wrestling a few years back and only occasionally check wrestlign websites to see whose still wrestling or who retired. i was surprised to see that the wwe got rid of booker t and that he went to tna. man i miss the attitude era back when the wwe was the best show on earth.

Rowdy Roddy Piper would have been an excellent choice, as well.

Hohoho. HOHOHOHOHOHOHO!

5 or 6!

I accidentally left the TV on this channel last night while doing some reading. I admit I was intrigued by it coming back (despite having the ironic position of adoring pro wrestling, but thinking AG would only appeal to bumpkins and 'billies). I saw the "Hebrew Hammer" pop his knee out in the powerball game, only to be replaced by a youth minister. Man, that dude was seething on the inside!

I have to admit I kinda got into it. I think it will be come a show like Family Guy (for me): if it's on, I'll watch it, but if I miss it, it won't bother me.

Titan's cleavage makes me quite uncomfortable, for the record.
The show isn't very good, but it's still mildly amusing. It's like an angrier version of Ninja Warrior.

Also, Crush does = hawt.
yeah speaking of that i notice they stole some stuff off of ninja warrior. now thats a show they should bring to america that would do pretty big numbers but you wouldnt get the same quality of competitors here that they do there. in japan that show is highly respected it seems and i dont think youd get the same kind of people or level of people here into doing it. still i think it would go over pretty well.

That guy was actually the 2nd contestant to be injured in Powerball (both knee injuries IIRC) and forced to retire in only a handful of times it's been shown. I think the floor must be too sticky for the sneakers so knee injuries become too likely. Or it's just an odd coincidence.
Wolf also needs to howl less, we get it your name is Wolf and you like to howl
I was a little bothered by the comment he made last week to one of the competitors:

"I'm smelling fear, I'm smelling blood. I'm gonna eat you up." I was like, "Whoa. That sounded a little gay."
Rowdy Roddy Piper would have been an excellent choice, as well.
Oh hell yeah he would have been great.

The show is another great idea, that could have been executed much better. Waaaayy too much scripting, even for the contestants. Its pretty entertaining if you can look passed the corny 1liners.

"this guy right here is a warrior"

yeah you know its bad when you can see them trying to remember their lines on tv. they should have went with ex pro wrestlers. another show that should be purchased for regular tv is pros vs joes. that show kicks so much ass and i love all the trash talking because all those assholes who are so sure they can do it better than the pros almsot always get their asses handed to them.

There's a guy in a single episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, that either IS Macho Man or sounds a shitload like him.
"this guy right here is a warrior"
That was straight cheese. If he had said it once, fine - but not 4-5 times. I would also have settled for "this guy is a dumbass for getting back on the floor with a dislocated knee," but evidently people deserve accolades for doing dumb things when injured.

Man Crush is so hot. I am a huge MMA fan so I've known about Gina Carano (Crush) well before the show started. She is tough as hell and fine beyond words.

If Wolf howls so much how come Venom never spits on people? That would be fuckin pricless if they gave her some green food coloring and she would just randomly hock on contestants.

FWIW, Hulk does have a big family so maybe all those guys (and....ahem.."girls") really are his real brothers. Yeah no.

It would also be funny as hell if they had Helga doing the ring swing thing (name of event escapes me) and she pulled teh whole fuckin rig down.

IMO it would be better with less Pro-wrestling type "Hype".

"Hit and Run" reminds me of that crazy challenge with the volleyballs being shot at contestants in MXC. That show friggin' rocks.

I thought it was SUPER gay (and I mean the literally homosexual way not the gay as stupid way) when that guy fell down and while Titan was telling him he was a warrior he said (and I shit you not) "I might not get another chance to say this man, but...the reason I got into body building...the reason I'm here...it's because of you man." I was in stunned silence for a little while then I laughed for a while. Then I masturbated but that was like an hour later...wait what?
Wolf looks like he's high on meth and/or PCP.
Yes, because that's how all body builders mantain their perfect build...meth.
Get acquanted with some drugs man.

Speaking of which, am I the only one who thought Titan looks like a 'roided up Matthew Mcconaughey?

The show is enjoyable and hit and run has potential, but the contestents just end up crawling under every ball. If they weren't able to hit the deck like that and avoid the ball, that game would be gold.

lol wolf looks like gary buseys son with a wild jesus beard and hair to match. the show will do fine once they calm the fuck down and just compete. i still say someday they will bring the running man gameshow to life. that would be sweet.

The New American Gladiators is cornier than a Thanksgiving Day turd.

However, I enjoy the juxtaposition of Titan's physique and haircut.

The new AG is decent, if you look beyond the interview blurbs and all of the overhyped nonsense. Get down to competing and skip all of the other crap, please.

I miss the old show and watch it on occasion on ESPN Classic, it's about the ONLY show I watch on ANY sports network anymore. The only other one being when/if ESPN Classic has classic pro wrestling on, though I don't think they do anymore.

Either way, it's a tolerable show and I hope it has at least a decent run. I'm sick of getting into shows, only to find out they've been cancelled quickly.

You don't watch the World's Strongest Man competitions? Those are flippin' awesome. Especially the olders ones with Lou Ferrigno.
