Nostalgia just brings me to my knees. I just think about all of the good ol', care-free times that I can never go back on. It's sad. =(

Um...Let's see. The first two Zeldas, Iron Tank, Top Gun, and the first Mario game. I remember when my dad's buddy just gave me an NES with like 10 games out of the blue when I was like 7. It kicked ass. It got me into gaming.

Also, tons of those old shows on Nickelodeon! When I listen to some of those old theme songs, it's just a surge of nostalgia.

Gigapets, pogs, Turtles action figures. I was obsessed with 'em all. Speaking of "them all," how about Pokemon? Gotta catch 'em all. Boy, was that a big crazy for me and my classmates 6 years ago. Jeez...some of the good ol' memories. ;_;

Even when I just crack open an EGM from like years ago and look at like the preview for Final Fantasy 7, it's just such a wierd feeling. I remmeber how hyped that game was, and how I rented a PSOne and the game just to play it. I haven't played through that game in YEARS, but I mean, that totally changed the way I played video games.
 
No, wait! Also, I want to add something...I remember this time in third grade when we were sitting in the back of this room working on this puzzle we had set out, and my friend says, "Oh, you use the shovel and dig for the flute around that area with the tree stump!" That totally shocked me...I had rented A Link to the Past so many times and always got stuck... Thanks for reminding me, chosen1s.

Also my older cousin used to have Nintendo Power magazines, and my younger cousin and I would just gawk at the pages and the new games coming out... Plus I remember playing Sim City all the time. God, I wish I could turn back the clock sometimes. :(

I wouldn't have thought of that one except I saw this DVD of 80s commercials on ebay. They also mentioned Teddy Ruxpin! I never had it, but that little ball of fuzz was a riot! Just put in a death metal tape and watch him feebly try to keep up (not that I listen to death metal).

Here's some more: Alvin and the Chipmunks (don't tell anyone but I used to dig the theme song and some of their covers were actually pretty good too), the Dennis the Menace cartoon, Danger Mouse (my buddy reminded me of that one), Tranzor-Z (used to get a kick out of his giant robot lady companion who shot breast missiles), the GODZILLA cartoon!!! (complete with Godzooky--what a tool), Johnny Quest, Wuzzies(?) or Wuzzles(?), Micro Machines (and the Micro Machine man), Saved by the Bell (Screech rules and I want to KaPOW Kelly Kapowski)!!!, Billy Cosby shilling jello pudding pops, LEGGO of my Eggo, ZOIDS!...

Here's an obscure one for you guys (and probably hints at my age). Who here remembers Kids Incorporated? That made me think of the movies Kidco and The Toy (both starring the same annoying kid). How about the movie BMX Bandits which I believe was a British import (what, with all the accents and all), RAD, Thrashin, Gleaming the Cube (which I never saw), Mannequin (Nothins Gonna Stop Us)...

Dudes, how about the movie Time Bandits? Speaking of dudes, Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure! Critters, The Gate, Troll, Girls Just Want to Have Fun (the movie, not the song--starring wee versions of Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker!), and of course the staples like The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, WEIRD SCIENCE!!!, My Science Project, Explorers, The Goonies ("Sloth love Chunk"), the NES games Goonies II, Gunsmoke, Legendary Wings, Trojan (hee hee), The Adventures of Bayou Billy (complete with garbled voice intro!), GOLGO 13 and my all-time favorite BIONIC COMMANDO (Capcom, I DEMAND a sequel/update)!!!

I could go on...

I just re-remebered this one (I thought of it last night). Anyone remember the eerily realistic-looking puppets from the show Spitting Image? I think it was a British import that shockingly didn't take off here. It was hilarious! To refresh your memory just think of the Phil Collins video "Land of Confusion". Remember now? The Ronnie Reagan puppet in various hijinks while Phil was crooning "This is the world we live in...oh oh oh...and these are the things we're giving..oh..oh"--something like that.

Snake2715 mentioned Karnov. That's the best fire-breathing Russian man game ever! You also reminded me of the days when consoles actually came with a freakin game!!!! I remember that summer day years ago when I drove to the mall (I think I was 16--yeah, I'm old) to pick-up my reserved SNES. I used the cash I got from selling my Turbografx with CD-Player. I just remember being absolutely blown away by Super Mario World. It seemed so perfect back then. Going back to the Turbografx, though--yeah, I got suckered in by their ad campaign. I was totally miffed that I didn't get a Genesis, which was clearly the better machine, but I made up for it later and got a NOMAD! Anyways the Turbo did have some rad games: Legendary Axe, Bonk's Adventure, Blazing Lazers, Vigilante, R-TYPE!!! and Y's I&II on CD absolutely blew me away--the score was so amazing. I remember an old EGM magazine that I used to own that had the character from Legendary Axe battling some character from a Sega game (can't remember) on the cover. Wish I still had those old mags...I do have a couple of relatively old Game Informers, though (back when they were really thin publications). And I remember when Nintendo Power wasn't Nintendo Power--it was just some thin mag that you got for being in the Nintendo Fan Club.

Oh and somebody may have mentioned this, but remember Reading Rainbow! It has that blind dude from Star Trek The Next Generation! I also remember those flimsy colored book-order sheets I used to get in elementary school where I could order the latest movie storybook or CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!!! (My friend just gave me a couple of those).

i remember an old snes game where you used your fist to punch through walls and power up your fists like "iron fist" or something..i cant remember the name of it, but it was my all time favorite game.

Yea. Chuck E Cheese was heaven to me. I used to go there when it was called "Showbiz pizza". I remember DZ as well. That place intimidated me. It was so big. I got lost in it once. Not a good memory :(

I was going to mention Showbiz Pizza..

Since we are mentioning places I have a vivid memory of
"Childrens Palace" It looked like a palace on the outside.

A Larger version of Toys R US it didnt stay around long in Grand Rapids but the building is still around and rented out to three seperate retail stores.

And BEST that place had a lot to offer for kids it was similar to .. well heck I have no idea but it went out about 10 years ago or so.



And since people like to mention old pop and crush was great. I only remember red and orange no apple...

But what about KICK. It came out at 25 cents a can and was great as a kid due to it being a lot less expensive than Mountain Dew.

Crap what about 16 ounce bottles before the 20 oz. bottles became the current standard.?

Or the big to do when Cindy Crawford was in that commercial with the two boys drinking pepsi wearing her cutoff shorts..

..the obvious TMNT, greatest show ever.

Power Rangers, it was cool for a while, then they kept changing.

I remember when the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers used to be good.

Transformers was also great! Only remember Optimus Prime though. I was a little too young to remember too much from it.

Nickolodeon was awesome back then. I used to watch 'What would you do?" 'Wild and Crazy Kids" "goof Troop" "Darkwing Duck" and all these other shows.

Did anyone used to watch 'Saved by the bell'???

Oh yea. Whoever mentioned those slap bracelets. I remember those.

I also had the original Prince of Persia. I had it for PC so I don't know if it was the official one. I wish I still had it. I wasn't really into games back then and only got to the second level.

I loved those old Arcade games like Simpsons, Turtles, and X-men. They were perfect for my two friends, my brother, and I to 4-player co-op.

Car 54, Get Smart, and Mister Ed. Even though they were made WAY BACK, they are nostalgic for me because I saw them all on:

NICK AT NIGHT - back when it first came out. This was the first channel that I "stayed up late" consistently to watch.

The first Gameboy and Tetris - Those bring back memories as well. I won a contest at my school and spent the whole $100 on my happy new Gameboy. I was thrilled that for the first time in my life I could play video games when I was away from my house!

Finally, Pinewood Derby. Anyone who was ever in Cub Scouts or something similar surely did this. My car was the one that would always drop its lead turd (that we stuck in the bottom to max out the weight) halfway down the track and get beat...
 
Also, for those of us who had the Disney Channel:

DTV - Disney's version of MTV. Seems like they had about 5 songs that they made videos to using old cartoon clips and they played them over and over every time they ran the DTV show. (Private Eyes was the one that to this day I can't get out of my head!)

Was it "Good Morning Mickey"? Every morning I would get up and watch this before going to school. I think they showed a bunch of the old Disney cartoons.

I also have vivid memories of my sister watching "Girls just want to have fun" and especially "Dirty Dancing" over and over and over and over and over. I can sing the entire theme song start to finish - not because I ever actually listened to the song myself, but because I heard it SO many times at my sister's birthday parties, sleepovers, etc.

Do any of you remeber when MTV actually played nothing but music videos. In the first few years of programing they played nothing but music. It used to be the best channel on cable back then.

What about the original console wars between the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Master System. I really got a lot of enjoyment out of both the systems. I got NES and my friend got a SMS. We used to swap our systems it was fun.

Double dragon was better on Sega two player co-op :D
 
Aw man--lots of memories bubbling up from the core of my cauldron..err, brain. Speaking of cauldron--how about Disney's The Black Cauldron? I never saw it, but I heard it was pretty good. It never got a video release until fairly recently.

Speaking of Disney, do people remember Friday night was The Magical World of Disney and they would air movies like "Herbie", "The Apple Dumplin Gang", "Escape From Witch Mountain" and "Parent Trap"(the original).

Somebody mentioned Nick at Night. I used to watch Car 54 all the time. Pretty fun stuff. Some other old shows I used to catch during the day: The Little Rascals, the campy live-action Batman show from the 60's, and the original Star Trek.

Someone mentioned the Garfield cartoon, which was quite enjoyable (I don't know about this new movie--looks like crap). I think the same creator made another show about barn animals called "Animal Farm" or "Green Acres" or something.

I remember A Goofy Movie. That's a great father-son pic. And it features The Wee...sle. Mr.Pauly Shore himself! I was never too fond of him, but he had his moments. Encino Man anybody?

Someone also mentioned Best and Children's Palace. Man, I had totally forgotten about those stores. What about Roses--anyone remember those department stores? I think I saw one recently, actually.

The Neverending Story--the bomb. The sequels--pure and utter shit. They make my eyes bleed profusely.

Speaking of Spider Man, remember when comic books used to have all that crap on the last page or on a middle page where you could order X-ray eyes, fart powder, a glow in the dark skeleton, how to grow muscles and other crap like that?

Someone mentioned Captain America and the Avengers arcade game. Has anybody played the Genesis version? Is it worth getting. The arcade game is boss (but not THE Boss--that's Mr.Bruce Springstein). Who's the Boss? Tony Danza, of course.

Speaking of Tony Danza--I just saw Cannonball Run 2 on cable. Man I love those movies! I think the first one may be better, though. There were a lot of stars in those movies (Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Burt Reynolds, Dom Delouise, Daisy Duke, the guy who played Jaws in Bond movies, and Mr.Jackie Chan himself!).

Ah! Me too! Remember Golden Circle? I remember when they were going out of business and were liquidating their store inventory. I was such a little cheapass then...

I had totally forgotten about Children's Palace. I've never heard of Roses btw.
