The Office - Season 3 - Discussion [possible spoilers]

^Actually it seems to be a real photo, the one with her wearing clothes is what you see when you look at the cover of the magazine, the clothes are on a clear piece of plastic that's glued onto the cover of the magazine like a second cover. The sign also says something different on the plastic cover.

Also, I really bumped this up to remind people that we have a new extended episode tonight. It's been a long time.

Dwight saving Jim, Pam rejecting (then getting back with) Roy, Jim catching Dwight and Angela, Darryl owning Michael, the women's suit, Toby being tortured by Ryan and Kelly, Toby marking down a historical potential lawsuit... God, this whole show ruled.

Dwight - Every day for eight years, I have brought pepper spray into work to protect myself and my co-workers, and every day, they have made fun of me… well… Who’s laughing now?
Michael - Everyone here is extremely gruntled.
Toby - Roy has been fired, obviously.
Jim - All things considered, I guess I’m glad that Dwight was there. And Roy was lucky that Roy just used the pepper spray, instead of the nunchuks or the throwing stars.
Dwight - Citizens do not accept prizes for being citizens.
Jim - That’d make us even, right? He saved my life, and I got him a display case for his desk toy.
Michael - Wikipedia is the greatest thing ever. Anyone can find whatever they want, so you know you’re getting the most accurate information possible.
Toby - I don’t think that Michael intended to punish me by having Ryan sit back here with Kelly, but if he did… wow.
Darryl - Are you wearing lady’s clothes?
Michael - This is a power suit…
Darryl - Those are women’s pants.
Pam - Oh my God, you’re wearing a woman’s suit.
Michael - I don’t think this is a woman’s suit, I think it’s bisexual.
Michael - Italians don’t wear pockets.
Pam - It’s been a rough few days… this helps.
Karen - When I found out that Jim kissed Pam, my reaction was to have a series of long talks with him. Roy’s was to attack him. I’m not sure which Jim hated more.
Pam - Sorry I almost got you killed.
Pam - Jim, I am really sorry.
Jim - Yeah, sure.
Michael - Every year, I get a $100 gas card. ‘Can’t put a price on that.
Stanley - Yeah, I heard how much Michael makes… I still think he’s overpaid.
Darryl - Hahaha, 14 years…
Darryl - You gotta get paid, son.
Darryl - Make it happen, cap’n.
Michael - Toby is the worst human being I’ve ever known!
Michael - Let’s go!
Toby - Where?
Michael - Where? I’m going to hit you in the head with a hammer.
Michael - Don’t ever touch a black man’s radio!
Darryl - Don’t forget the new black man phrase I taught you.
Darryl - Yeah, I taught Michael some new phrases, and I want him to get the raise. I just can’t help myself.
Michael - I accidentally cross-dressed.
Jim - …I will never say a word. And now we’re even.
Andy - I graduated anger management the same way I did Cornell - on time, so WATCH OUT DUNDER-MIFFLIN!
Dwight - I’m not a hero. I’m merely a defender of the office. You know who is a hero? Hero, from Heroes. Also Bono.

I loved how during Michaels discussion over his raise with Jan, Jan was being male-dominant-like while Michael was very undertone like a wife/woman by refusing the sex... awesome once again.
worth the wait.
Definitely. As the third season winds down I am pretty confident that it is the best show ever made. There's never an unfunny episode.

^I have to disagree and say that the first episode wasn't very funny or very good. It had a few funny moments, but overall it just didn't feel right and I didn't really enjoy it. I did see potential for, so I tuned in for the next episode, which was much better, and I've been a fan ever since.

The new episode was great. It had so many funny moments. I loved the Ryan Kelly bickering and I really felt sorry for Toby. I wouldn't put it past Michael to have made Ryan move not only as a punishment for him, but also as a punishment for Toby. Also, all the stuff with Darryl was really funny, from the suit to the Wikipedia stuff.

It was awesome to finally see Darryl get some screen time... he's definitely underused.

Kevin yelling about Roy, after Roy already left, that was awesome too.

And I'm getting sick of Pam being such a pushover... it's actually starting to bother me seeing her give in over and over and over again.

Andy getting pepper sprayed was hilarious though.

I forgot what Stanley said, but it was a hilarious line. I think it had to do with Micheal.

Toby calling Micheal's move of Ryan "genius" was LOLZ as well.

after the last coffee scene, I think the writers will be pushing more towards Pam finally taking a stand on some things, kinda like she did in a few episodes back.

"He's still overpaid."

I feel that of all the characters, even including Pam and Jim, Toby is the most normal and the one whose reactions to the bizzarness of others is the funniest.

What I hate about Scrubs is that they have 0 characters like that, no one 'normal' character to react to all the bizzare ones.
What I hate about Scrubs is that they have 0 characters like that, no one 'normal' character to react to all the bizzare ones.
I think that's supposed to be Carla's role.

Toby is awesome - Michael has hated him since the very beginning of the show... it's great.

And the hiarious part is that Michael doesn't like Toby because he considers him to be 'corporate' when Michael is probably more 'corporate' than Toby. I love this show.

I think this is the reason I hate 1) most sitcoms, and 2) most tv shows in general. These days, every character tends to just be a smartass and say these incredibly "witty" lines that amount to nothing more that a string of baseless insults. Plus they are all written/said in this very drawn out way, such that you are constantly reminded "oh yea, people are reading lines here."

I think that's what turns me off to so much that's on television these days - every character from every show could be switched with any other character from any other show, and you'd hardly notice a difference.

At least the Office has sincerely different personalities. You couldn't really hand a Kevin line to Dwight, for example. It just wouldn't work.

I also like (as has been said by myself and others many times before) that we get a full range of situations/emotions from the characters, and this invokes different responses to them on the part of us (the viewers). I mean, you feel so bad for Micheal, but at the same time, you're thinking "Yeah, but he really sort of brought this on himself."

Disagree with this statement, as I still feel Seinfeld is far and away the greatest show ever. That said, The Office is next on the list.

Last night's episode was absolutely hilarious. Dwight fending off Roy was a stroke of genius by the writers. I also loved how Michael was wearing the exact same suit as the woman in the waiting room.

Anybody else think Dwight spraying Andy was part revenge for getting him fired?

My favorite line last night:

Jan: "I can give you a 12% raise but only if you ask for 15."
Michael: "Ah...so...I would like a 15% raise."
Jan: "I can give you 12.
Michael: "I thought you just said 15?"

If Seinfeld quit after 7 seasons I'd probably agree but that 9th season was awful (season 8 and 9 had a few good episodes but were significantly worse than the previous years). I hope The Office quits one year too early rather than 2 or 3 years too late.

Last night's episode was really great - when Daryll kept emailing pictures to Roy I just couldn't stop laughing.
Wait, Dwight sprayed Andy? I thought he sprayed Roy, shit, did I turn it off too early and something happened at the end?
Yes, that was at the very end. Followed by Toby confiscating Dwight's cache of weapons.

The whole episode was hilarious besides maybe Angela asking people to keep recounting the story -- that got old fast.

"Make it happen, captain"
"You got it..............Sergeant"

It was a pretty good episode. Not really fantastic but far from bad. Then again I don't think there is such a thing as a bad episode of The Office.

I've really gotten to the point where Pam annoys me now. I like Karen a hell of a lot more and would rather see Jim with her anyway. I liked during last night's episode "Roy's reaction to hearing about Jim and Pam was to try and beat him up, my reaction was to make him sit down and talk about his feelings, I'm not sure which one he hated more"

So, in closing Karen>Pam

man i didnt catch any of that, maybe i was laughing already damn.

also, i am jumping on the "starting to dislike pam" train. its like she has battered wife syndrome or something.

Regarding negative feelings about Pam: I think one of the key themes of this show is people's ability to change, or lack thereof. Most characters on the show have grown little over the course of the show. Obviously Michael is still as oblivious as he ever was. Ryan seems unable to break up with Kelley, despite loathing her (or to leave Dunder Mifflin, for that matter). Toby never stands up for himself. And so on. Pam and Jim seem to be the some of the only characters with a significant degree of free will. Hence, they have a greater ability to disappoint us when they don't exercise it.

I don't quite think that was what he was looking for if you know what I mean.

My Favorite line was "I think Roy was lucky that Dwight didn't use his nunchucks or ninja stars." lol
I also like Toby, I think he is one of my favorite charecters, everything he does is funny.

Saw the episode this morning from a torrent, good stuff. Now the only episode I can't find is "back from vacation". So is next weeks show the last one for the season?

According to Wikipedia we get 25 episodes this season and the last episode that aired was the 18th episode of the season, so we're getting 7 more episodes this season. :D

I thought it was the 19th.
I thought it was the 19th.
It was the 19th episode made this season but they still haven't shown episode 14 yet.
It seems like they air a lot of episodes out of production order.
Edit: According to the front page of the Office on Wikipedia they have 25 episodes this season, according to the episode guide they have 23. Hopefully it's actually 25.

For anyone who hasn't seen "Blades of Glory", Pam is in that movie and there's a scene with her wearing lingerie and looks fucking hot. I was so shocked of how much they tone down her hotness on the office.

I guess to make the people seem more real.

didn't see the movie but saw that clip on Leno... fuck yeah she is hella hot.
not sure if this was mentioned earlier, but its news to me. the office has been picked up a 4th season.

Given the show's popularity, not a big surprise. I'm sure NBC would renew the show in perpetuity if they could. The biggest threat is not cancellation but one of the stars (well, really just Steve Carell) pulling a Rob Morrow/David Caruso and jumping ship for a film career.

Now tell me that Friday Night Lights got renewed and I'll do cartwheels.

From what I've read, Jenna Fischer has stated several times that Carell doesn't want to leave the show (apparently claiming something like "A show like this only comes along once in your career"), as long as they can accommodate his summer shooting schedule for films and such.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Carell is under a 5 year contract. Fischer has stated nearly the entire cast is under extremely long-term contracts, but look at the credits for most of the actors pre-Office, many were out of work or doing standup.

So did everyone forget we had a new episode tonight or something? I don't remember ever seeing it take so long for someone to bump up the Office thread after a new episode.

Anyway, I enjoyed this episode. It wasn't as great as the last one, but it had its moments, like Dwight giving Andy the silent treatment, Creed eating the potato, along with Dwight and Michael doing their lines for a second time since Dwight forgot to get the wherehouse staff.
