The Office - Season 6 - Discussion [possible spoilers]

I didn't like how Dwight and Angela had that sex contract part...seems like it would have been much better if they did it early in the season. It would have been golden because of the competition of Angela vs Pam and good vs evil

I don't know....just seems like they're trying to force something
30 Rock is overrated and Community steps on its own jokes by meshing witty comedy with MTV-paced editing.
I don't watch 30 Rock but I've enjoyed this season of Community far more than the past couple Office seasons.
I thought last nights episode was absolutely brilliant.
I can say, as a new dad just over a month ago, the scenes in the hospital are spot on!
As a new dad 5 years ago, it brought back memories, especially the reaction to the breastfeeding issues.
Please oooooo please write off Jim and Pam. I cannot stand the two!
Hmm. Somehow I don't see this happening, champ.

If you are waiting for this to happen you might want to consider moving on to something else haha.

I wish someone would write you off these forums.

jim and pam suck super monkeyballs they drag the whole show down. they need to write them and stanley off or do the scrubs thing and fastforward 10 years and only keep half the cast
You know any episode that has
Todd Packer
and
Cats In The Cradle
and
Dwight's Mega Desk
is automatic win!
You forgot Erin in her jammy-jams.
Todd Packer being back was awesome. Him being on the show for three seconds was not.
In typical Office fashion there's probably at least one deleted/extended scene with more Packer in it.

Man, just saw the Pim and Jam (I actually did not intentionally make that mistake...) baby special. Wow, if my GF stopped watching this I'd never watch it again. Can't believe how bad it is now...

That was an exceptionally good episode, had a ton of good laughs. Erin saying "Talk to me like that again and I'll cut your face off" had me laughing for a while.

Erin is slowly becoming my favourite on the show.
The episode had me from the second the pushup thing started. I just knew Stanley would be determined enough to get out of there.

This last episode was really good. I love Erin. :D
Seriously if you don't like the show any more then quit watching. Just saying that is all.
Yep.

That's what I've done. Thanks to Parks and Rec, I've seen a little bit of this season, though, but I usually turn it off right away.

I stuck with the last episode -- not sure why, just because? -- long enough to see "Date Mike." It was painful, and I flipped channels the hell out of there. Kevin trying to get Pam to lactate was also unfunny -- it's hard to believe that would be "hot" to Kevin. So much fail.

They need to put the Office down.
I liked this thread better before every other comment was something retarded about Jim and Pam.
+1

Good show imo. Not for everyone.

To be fair, a lot of people have been saying this show run its course and has gone downhill. I however, cannot miss an episode.

I'm really loving Parks and Rec. I think it has spiritually carried The Office's torch.

was it me, or did the black guy from the warehouse have one of those "looks" right when oscar saw that white guy in the arcade place?

Finally saw last week's episode - good stuff. The show has been very uneven recently but the last few episodes have been solid. I love the Erin and Andy thing. Also, Dwight is still awesome.

I would like to suggest to everyone to go watch Parks and Recreation episodes off their site instead of watching Office reruns tonight.

Parks and Recreation is steamrolling Office as a whole right now, and I even still enjoy the Office. They've really branched out Knope's character so she doesn't feel like a Michael Scott copy no mores.

"Guys, I don't know if I made this clear, but I don't want any sexual predators in the spring catalog."

I've wanted the Office to end pretty badly recently... but that last episode regained some hope. I really enjoyed it, not sure if they got some original writers or what - but it was actually funny and played into each characters strong points. And Dwight saying, "Oh @$*%" seeing Angela made me laugh.

I only watched the last few minutes of the wedding episode while waiting for the MLS double header on ESPN-2 to start. Maybe I missed it but I swear they edited out the infamous shot of Erin's underwear being exposed during the dance segment.

I still enjoy The Office even if I feel that as someone has put it this season has been a bit uneven. Parks & Rec really has become the show I look forward to the most on Thursday. 30 Rock continues to be pretty solid. I must be the only one in this thread that flat out couldn't get into Community.

I have not been able to get into Parks and Rec, Community or 30 Rock. I've watched the first few episodes of each and didn't find them interesting at all.

Parks And Rec was at best so-so during the first season. Its really gotten great this season. I bought 30 Rock blindly on DVD (the Target season 1 and 2 pack). Loved it right away.

30 rock is hilarious. This season isn't good because it focuses on liz a bit too much.....but it's still watchable.

Parks is funny....but not hilarious. I now watch for the indian guy and the intern who looks nice but isn't hot to me.

Community...stopped watching after 3 episodes. Wasn't for me

Definitely agree with that point about 30 Rock. I'm really impressed with the last few episodes though, seems like they're slowly getting back to their awesome.

In the 2 hour Thursday block, Parks & Rec is the only one I tune in for. It's the only show in that 2-hour NBC Thursday block that doesn't "write down" to its characters (with the exception of Jerry, though they ham-handedly tried to turn the worm on that). Community and 30 Rock are especially guilty of condescension. The only part of Parks and Rec that's hard to follow is the damn romance between April and Andy, but at least it has its funny, albeit excessively cute, moments given each character's outlook. April's perspective is always fun.

To come back to the thread, The Office -- to me at least -- only knows one speed now to get laughs: 100% over the top. The subtlety that distinguished The Office long ago (and was maligned as "slapstick" relative to the UK version) has been discarded for full-on, honest-to-god slapstick. I'm sure that has mode has its fans, but it's certainly not what drew me to the show.

I love Community, easily my new favorite NBC Thursday show. Love it. Love.

Parks, which I gave up on during season 1, has gotten much better from what I've caught this year. It hasn't been enough for me to make the effort, but I now no longer rush for the remote after Community.

I gave up on The Office about 2 seasons ago. I really felt like something 'broke' after the Writer's Strike and they were just never able to fix it. The show *should* be winding down it's run, but I guarantee NBC is doing whatever they can to have it hang around WAY longer than it should. If it was ever going to take a cue from it's British parent, now is the time. Wrap. it. up.

30 Rock. I'm conflicted. It used to be my favorite Thursday comedy, and one of my top ever. This season, though, has been... lackluster. I can't put my finger on it, but they just seem to have lost *something* that made the show great. I honestly can't figure it out. In fact, the last episode, when Jack did the video from Frank's Mom's room was the only time I've even laughed out loud this season. That felt like 'old' 30 Rock to me. As I've described to many people, I've rarely fallen out of love with shows as suddenly as this. I still watch it, but I just don't care anymore.

This is why The Office has been kind of struggling for a couple of seasons:

Parks and Recreation is the baby of Michael Schur, dude who played Mose/one of the main writers of the show and was Ken Tremendous at firejoemorgan.com. You just can't replace that kind of talent.

wait, so does that mean no more appearances by Mose? That would suck, because he was one of those characters that I LOVED seeing when he was on the show, but knew that it had to be random, because it would be too forced if they worked him in regularly. I still die everytime I see Mose running alongside Jim and Pam as they go to stay at Schrute Farm

With the announcement that Steve Carell is soon to be done with The Office I hope they wind it down and end it. I don't feel it with Andy and Erin like I did with Jim and Pam. Now that Jim and Pam are married and have a kid and Michael is hitting it off with the bar manager chick I hope it all gets wrapped up.

I wouldn't be shocked if they replace michael with darryl...
P&R is still awesome.
I'm starting to wonder if they need Ann (Karen from the Office) and Mark at all. She and Mark were supposed to be foils for PNR wackiness -- much like Jim and Pam were for the Office -- but I think there's not as much off-the-wall in PNR to warrant them. That is, whereas Office loves to give us a shot of frowning Pam or nonplussed Jim, PNR abandoned those shots for the most part, and when they _do_ use them they just don't work IMO. They've tried to get Ann and Mark in the action in a substantial way (the photo shoot with Tom is a good example), and it just ain't happening with those two. I'd love to see them go. They're dead weight.

It's obvious but worth stating: PNR is a show that definitely wouldn't be this good without the Office having come before it. They've done a good job of reining in and better utilizing the wacky in the Office while maintaining the mockumentary style. Whereas most characters in the Office exist at one of the extremes, most every character in PNR is a nice blend of rational and nuts. For instance, they can pull off both Ron's authority over Parks and Rec and his barely contained glee over gov't shutdown.
