The Office - Season 6 - Discussion [possible spoilers]

The gag with the 94 meetings with Ann was priceless. Stuff like that warrants her being around.

Mark can't really be compared to Jim anymore. Yeah, he's the obvious analogue, and they even go as far as to pair him up with NotKaren to really drive the point home. But his character is more about being stable than anything else.

Jim existed purely as comedic foil to everyone, but whose life goals have changed entirely. So at first he hates his job and has no issues about quitting, except for Pam. Then he decides he's going to stick around and attempt to climb the ladder a bit. Then he gets married and feels that he HAS to be there in order to provide for his family. This change has killed much of his character, since he now thinks he can't be as detached or goof around as much. It's part of whats diminished him entirely, being replaced with the kind of stuff that is counter The Office, where it's now this sort of "life works out" sap instead of Demotivational Poster.

Mark seems to have his job and somewhat like it, and really have no aspirations toward any extreme. Thinking about marriage to NotKaren struck me as out of place entirely since he's more even than S1/2 Jim was. It just felt like they'd dated, it was kind of nice, and then bam - hey I might propose. I think that element could be dropped, but his character needs to remain.

I just really dig the show. Knope has now eclipsed her hesitant Michael Scottism beginning into a full fledged character. Tom is hilarious. Emochick works and her giddy schoolgirl act with NotRoy is a great light happy element. NotRoy is hilarious. Ron is king. It's my highlight now.
For instance, they can pull off both Ron's authority over Parks and Rec and his barely contained glee over gov't shutdown.
And Knope having Michael Scott's naiveness without his incompetence and depressing shortage of friends (I really like her relationship with Anne).

That's the biggest difference between the office and that parks show

Leslie has a friend. Michael has a sidekick in Dwight. Plus, it's great that Leslie isn't the boss, so she sometimes gets checked and seemingly always has to seek for approval. Michael is the boss so he got to basically do whatever he wanted to as long as his branches' sales were good.

The indian guy also makes it enjoyable to watch...but it's confusing why he works there when his personality is not even remotely connected to what you would expect in a city hall position. The randomness is great for a show...but highly unlikely in real life since there really hasn't been many (if any) episodes where he has done anything important that didn't just help himself in the process.

The show shine guy is funny but I liked him before he got his job inside the hall.

Other than that, the rest of the show is ho hum and I wouldn't be shocked if it was canceled after next season. When I download my 3 NBC shows (30 rock also), I watch Parks after The office and 30 rock. I treat it as the show that I'm watching....but not eagerly waiting for to be entertained

I think honestly Parks & Rec will hang in for at least several more years. Its getting really positive buzz this season and honestly it deserves it. Its the show on the NBC Thursday line up I look the most forward to watching each week as of lately. :D

Is there going to be a 7th season of the show? Seems like they are setting up the story in a way that's going to kill off the series, especially looking at the titles of the next few episodes.

The Office got renewed for two more seasons a few months ago. However that might be in jeopardy since it sounds like Steve Carell might be leaving after next year.

Parks getting midseasoned is depressing. I've loved The Office since it started but this season has just been meh, while Community and Parks and Rec have continually gotten better. I actually thought Community was awful the first 4 episodes but now I think it is really great.

Any take that it could be due to Amy Poehler being pregnant? She is going to have the kid in several months after the summer hiatus and needs maternity leave.

If it weren't for P&R, I'd be done with NBC. I'm trying to think of what group in the history of the world could possibly do worse than their current execs.

Polygamist retard paint huffing alligators?

I just started watching Parks like a week ago and started catching up. I think it's pretty awesome so far, same style as the office, but different enough to keep it from being redundant. The Office should probably end soon and Parks can take its place for me.

I like the green one. And the red circle right here. I’m tearing up, man.

They could be going the LOST route, trying to generate better ad revenues per airing.

They could be emulating the LOST model even further: NBC might've purchased the rights to the LOST series and have plans to continue the narrative right away under the PNR banner. Leslie Knope as the new Jack would make Jack worth more than jackface. Ron Swanson as the Man in Black is automatic.

Anyhow, we've known NBC is suspect for decades and decades. The way they cut Hunter loose was disgraceful. It's been downhill for NBC since then -- they'll never live down the Curse of Det. Sgt. Deedee McCall.

She worked on SNL all the way up until her water broke so I think she could do the show pregnant.

With regards to this episode. The part where
IT guy giving the entire office the finger summarizes how I feel about the entire season.
When Jim became a manager, the show revealed how everyone in the office is either a moron or an unsympathetic jerk (Jim and Pam being exceptions, they're just kinda boring). They say familiarity breeds contempt. If that's the case, I guess at this point, I'm very, very familiar with the Scranton branch. :bomb:

They deserved that rant and they deserved to almost all get fired earlier this season.

On the plus side I do like the Japanese warehouse guy.:)

.....Most season-finales end with a cliff hanger or suspense

I knew nobody was going to get fired. I knew nobody would leave. And other than Holly potentially coming back and Dwight potentially owning the building....nothing exciting happened. In fact, the IT guy had the best rant and it was subpar (it should have been much, much longer because most of that episode was crap)

The office went from a show that I loved to watch, to a show that I just wanted to gawk at...to now a show where I just don't care.

And I'm still laughing at how Craig Robinson did a movie and magically he moved from warehouse to an office in which he does absolutely nothing
