My understanding is that only Wal Mart will match BF prices.

I'll be picking up Pacific Rim at either Target or Best Buy, but I don't want to fight crowds for it. I am going to try and get it on Best Buy's early access thingy they do for silver members. Does Target do something similar for Redcard members?

Then youl'll probably like Thor 2 as the movie is as focused or (arguably) more focused on Loki than Thor.

Yeah, I highly doubt you're going to find Pacific Rim on a 3D Blu-ray anytime soon, or ever, for $6. I don't remember ever seeing a 3D Blu-Ray for under $10, actually. Maybe if there was a sale on one and you applied a U&S coupon at Best Buy, or something like that.

The Hobbit Extended was on sale all last week (release week) at Amazon and others. I got the 3D Extended for $29.99 (it's up to $39.99 now) from Amazon. As I said in another thread, I doubt it will be that cheap again anytime soon (especially this coming BF), but hopefully I'm wrong about that. Sales on the extended LOTR Blu-ray trilogy have been few and far between, while the theatrical version Blu-rays or trilogy box set seem to go on sale every other week!

My problem with those movies is that I fucking know that there will be an all inclusive box set when they're all out.

You're right- i's definitely not a question of if, but WHEN they will release all three of the Hobbit movies in a trilogy set (actually, it's very likely that they'll release all the theatrical versions in one set, then make us wait a year or more to release the extended versions in a set, or something like that).

However, when they started selling the LOTR trilogy as a set, they didn't change the content of the discs at all, they just offered some pretty new packaging (new features were added to the limited Costa Botes versions on DVD), so maybe (HOPEFULLY for early adopters like me) that's all they'll also do for the Hobbit trilogy sets.

Of course, times have changed with stuff like this, as it seems like every new release these days comes in 3-5 options on Day 1, so it's tough to say just how complicated it'll get when trilogies like The Hobbit, with two versions of each movie made, get released multiple times, year after year.

I'm pretty sure Amazon didn't release their calendar last year until the weekend before Thanksgiving/BF. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I remember CAGs asking over and over for Amazon's movie and video game calendars last year leading up to BF, expecting them to be released close to all their competition's leaked ads in early-to-mid November, but they didn't come until as late in the game as possible.

 
I haven't seen this question asked yet so I'm curious. There's a handful of blu's and DVDs I'm looking to pick up from Wal-Mart but I work until midnight on Thanksgiving and on Wal-Mart's website for the movies it says the price is only good on November 28th. You think that those prices will be in effect after midnight when it's technically the 29th? That sounds odd to me, since I assume Wal-Mart will be open all night but it's what the website says.

I know pickings will be slim by then but I can pull what I did last year...go in a day or two early, grab what I want and hide them in the last row of pillows or some other obscure department. But that won't do me any good if the price is only good Thanksgiving day.

From my experience, the prices are available on DVDs and Blu's all weekend, or at least all day Friday, or until they're sold out, whichever comes first. I've walked into a Walmart a day after these sales started in years past and got any of those items at sale prices without any problem.

Also, for some DVDs and Blu's you're looking for, there's a chance that you'll be able to hide them before BF sales start, but a lot of the time Walmart's BF movies and TV shows come in cheaper packaging and with less special features, so grabbing them before BF sales start with the intention of buying them when the sales go live might not work. Also, most (if not all) of the DVDs and Blu's on sale for BF have special color-coated-by-price stickers on them to denote that it is a BF deal, so I'm not sure if you'd be able to buy a non-stickered version of the movie and get the BF sale price. You said you did this last year, though, so maybe having that sticker doesn't actually change the UPC or anything and you'll be fine again this year.

There are several negative trends this one might fall into:

1. be more expensive than buying them alone

2. feature separate sets for 2-d and 3-d

3. Feature either the same editions with a slip case, or an entirely new packaging with cardboard sleeves

 
looking forward to the LOTR trilogy on blu-ray and then some of the $1.96 blu's (Braveheart, Gladiator, Wrath of the Titans, Potter films, Hangover 1 & 2)

some decent deals.

I'm hoping amazon matches most of those like they normally do though, definitely won't be going out thanksgiving day to spend money.

bring up the link. There's like 20 blurays. Too bad I own most. Also only Harry Potter deathly hallows pt 2 is listed for 1.96. Not sure if they are done deciding what blurays to set at what price.

What's the worst that would happen, I wait and realize I don't like the offerings then buy the single sets for a lot less because the new ones are out? Honestly, I'm sure that they'll release a set with everything eventually, I'll just wait for it. I've got my LoTR set still sealed. It seems like most movies I buy now are just to own for whenever I want to watch them but then I never do.

 
Count me as one of those that wants the 3d versions for cheap.  I'm sure it will happen eventually, especially since 3d is apparently very unpopular.

to my knowledge they put those links up to show what titles will be available in each price range.

so those are just the current prices now, they should drop come black friday

 
I think it's more of a hassle with 3d if others are like me with 2 young kids and a dog I don't have 3d yet because I would have to keep the glasses put away at all times unless using them plus to have to pay a lot more for movies I personally have never seen a 3d movies sale price ever listed below what best buy has them for sale for at 19.99 if they become more common maybe the price will drop but it hasn't yet.

State law prohibits big box stores from being open on Thanksgiving where I live,so most stores will open at midnight Black Friday. Since Walmart will also price match BF print ads, I'm think of heading there with a stack of sales flyers from Target, Gamestop, and Kmart at midnight to claim all the stuff I want.

Probably will be, since the first print run gets a slipcover and after that, no slipcover. That's something worth for early adopters, though I can't see it going cheaper for a while.

It's also $34.99 at Best Buy right now, so if you're interested, I would think about getting it at that price.

 
When's Amazon going to release their BF deals? The past years they always came out with a list and each day leading up to BF they had great deals on Blus. It wasn't this lightning deal stuff though.

Totally this. I just can't do it for that price on Amazon.

I had a similar, first-world dilemma last year with the Brave Blu Ray- I would've preferred the 3D, ultimate, melt-your-face, loaded-with-discs, ultimate/collector's/special/limited edition, but the non-3D Blu Ray combo pack was like $8 or something at Walmart last BF (Walmart's BF prices starting early last year FTW!), so I picked up that version instead.

 
Does Walmart usually post their movie deals online for Black Friday as well or are they in store only? I gotta get my hands on that LOTR trilogy if that is indeed the price.

 
Big Lots is going to have various Disney blurays gkr $7.99 on Thanksgiving. The ones shown in the ad are Toy Story,Escape from Witch Mtn, and James and the Giant Peach. Dunno what other titles they'll have. Sale starts 7 am Thanksgiving. Also various DVDs and blurays will be buy 1 get 1 half off.

 
I hate dealing with Walmart for Black Friday, but LOTR for $7 is very tempting. Hopefully I can manage to get it online or Amazon will match it.
