The Official E-Bay Scalping Thread

GEEZ, where do people get this kind of money? Paying 3200 bucks for a video game system?? I'm glad for all you guys, but wtf??

I had ANOTHER new registered user bid on my item. Is it going to matter if I cancel all of these bids? For the cancellation reason, I am putting down "User decided to back out", should this be okay? Will ebay accept that I am just cancelling them because they are new and I specifically stated in my auction that the buyers need at least 5 feedback.

NOTE: My auction is somewhat disallowed, so I don't want to draw attention to it. I started it yesterday, and it is ending today. I have the PS3 in hand, and put in the auction that I wouldn't have the PS3 in hand until the morning of the 17th.

EDIT: this will be my second cancellation of a bid too.

Next day air for the one I shipped this morning was about $80 plus it cost me another $10 for packaging materials at Office Depot.

Seems steep, but with my final price of $2,550 I still had a gain of about $1,600 after system cost plus ebay & paypal fees, and shipping charges.

Nice score.

well.. i went ahead and cancelled the another bid. This time, for the reason, I stated that the buyer did not meet the seller's requirements.

The 20 Gigs it seem aren't going for a whole lot. Most of the ones I've seen have only been going for around 700-800, and the few that have reached the $1000+ range, ahve mostly been deadbeat bidders. I put my 20 Gig up today, hopefully I should get something decent for it.

Another thing to look out for that I've seen on a lot of auctions, it hasn't been only people with 0 or negative bids, or new users that have been winning these auctions as a scam, it's also users with a reletively low amount of feedback (Under 30 or so), none of which is recent, so look out for that too.

like i said people just need to keep listing all the suspicious people they find...that way we'll PROTECT our auctions...hopefully...

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I can't wait to see how high it goes!

I got lucky and got a good BIN bidder at 3800, but that definitely seems to be the exception.

Auctions that make it to the end w/ out fuckING scammers who are trying to ruin auctions are running high at around 2500-4000, that won't last more then another 12 hours. I suggest you END YOUR AUCTION EARLY AND SELL TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER that looks reliable the moment you hit your target amount, cuz they get up to 3,000 then fuckING scammers ruin it, so you can still get good money, just end it for the 3,000 and don't go for a home run 4,000-5,000.

I'm sorry, guys but I'll be gone on the road for the next 12 hours, so I won't be around to give advice regarding ebay during that time, however, like I said,
let your auction run as there will be real bidders and END IT EARLY SELLING TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. This is the best way to get a good amount, and not sell yourself short by putting a BIN of 1,800. You can get much more then that right now on ebay if you're persistent. The bidding market won't cool to that till probably tomorrow, when I'm estimating a level off at around 2,000 and then slowly moving downward thereafter.

Anyone know why sometimes listing show up right away, and other times it's hours before it shows up in a search.

I've listed my BIN auction over 2 hours ago, and doing a search with my exact title yields no result. Yet, the search hits shows a dude who listed only 25 minutes ago.

It almost always takes my listings about 4 hours to show. Recently listed some speakers, however, and was shocked to see someone had put it on their watch list 10 minutes after listing.

Is it just random? Does anyone know the secret code to getting your listings automatically indexed into searches from the very start?
20 gigs aren't getting any love on Ebay. Not sure way, it's not that bad of a system. In fact, to me it's pretty damn good.
well, I guess if you are spending $1000+ on ebay, might as well go all the way. I'm selling a 20GB, so I hope more people consider it. So far, it is at $700, which is honestly good enough for me.

Theres Sony store out in here in Vegas, so I decide to go and accompy my friend before I go to work. There are these idots talking about PS3s going for 4,000. I tried to explain to them thats its those scammers, and they didn't believe me. I hope they get victimized by one. BTW, those bots they use get around alot of ebays tools.

I got MY PS3 at EBGames, and not many people there when I got it. Not time to sell or not?
so im wondering if i can trust this user....or hsould i cancel his bid?

any suggestions? anyone? PLEASE?!
Not to sure...If it was me, I would ban him, it could be a "hacked" account.

Mine just sold in an hour with a BIN of $2350.00 with $50.00 shipping, I bundled it with a game an a 6' HDMI cable I got last week for $6.00. The guy has already paid and I will ship it out tomorrow first thing. So for about $666.00(scary) out of pocket I should profit about $1557.00.

It's becoming completely obvious that eBay needs to allow sellers to screen/block bids from people with less than a certain amount of feedback. I know this would take away from encouraging new membership but if they limited the use of this by charging like a $10 fee or something for this feature it would be more than worth it selling items like this. There are so many scammers and non-paying bidders out there that it really makes eBay look bad.
When do you think people will start selling Wii component cables on Ebay?
I'm surprised there's nothing up yet since they should be getting delivered today... although most people probably wanted one to keep...

Would someone mind posting their entire list of "blocked users". You should still be able to access the list, and it would just be a simple copy and paste. I have gotten most of the users, but I may be missing a few. Here is my list so far:

Well mine finally went into the system and I sold it. Maybe I'm stupid, but I did BIN with immediate payment required for 1999.99+ shipping. Winning bidder has feedback of 1400+ and I think he's buying a bunch to try and capitalize on the pre-Christmas runup.

I just don't have the stones I guess. I just wanted something as safe as possible and was willing to sacrafice for it.

Nice profit for a 50 minute wait at EBworld.

Mine arrived today. But unless I have to sell my Wii because people are bidding stupidly, I don't even wanna look at what the prices are selling at.

I'm with you. I'm putting mine up for a BIN with immediate payment required of $2,000 as soon as I get home from work. Maybe I'll stretch it to $2,200 or something but no more. I always said I'd be happy selling it for double what I paid plus eBay/Paypal fees so I can pick one up for "free" next March or whenever and it looks like that's an easy thing to do (although even that is pending the resolution of the 1080i issue because I'm sure as shit not buying a new TV just to play PS3).

Here's a question. A Buyer with a verified address, whom I called, wants me to ship the unit to his nephew in Florida. It -sounds- legit, as he said he'd wait until the funds clear into my account. My question is, should I? If I insure it etc.? Or would I not be protected if he files a claim with Paypal since I didn't send it to his address?

Reality's Fringe;2380516]Here's a question. A Buyer with a verified address said:
Don't do it, I believe shipping it to a non verified address and it's different then his on the paypal account you can get screwed over. Just send it to him and then he can turn around ad ship it to his cousin or whoever.

Reality's Fringe;2380516]Here's a question. A Buyer with a verified address said:
NO NO NO. Send to a verified PayPal address only. Tell him he can ship it to his nephew in a day or two when he gets the system. If you ship to an unverified address you lose PayPal protection.

Well, maybe i was unwise or something, but i've sold mine on Craigslists for $1500 cash. I just assume that if i had sold it on Ebay for $1800 - $2000, after Ebay,PayPal fees and free shipping i am going to make about $1500 - $1700.
I've also consider that i rather sell it for that price to someone local, i'll get my money and i don't have to deal worrying about someone trying to mess my auction up and if there is a missing shipment. End of day, i sold 2 PS3's for a profit of $1800 today. Not bad when i consider i only invested a total of 7 hours waiting for the pre-orders at Gamestop and Ebgames. Now, if you'll excuse me, i'll go put on a flame suit for those wanting to flame me. >

Sorry if this has been posted but how do you block specific buyers on your auction. I can't seem to find the option to do this. Thanks.
Never mind I found it on page 13.
Nice! I'm a little nervous about meeting in person and exchanging cash - I'd bring a couple of friends with you and meet in a very public place. I'm hoping to turn an hour of work in to $1,500 profit myself. I waited for 20 minutes outside Gamestop to preorder and I fiigure it will take another 40 minutes to write the auction, box it up and take it to the post office. Not bad!
Yes, if you can, go with a friend, there's nothing wrong and i am sure the other party will understand. And always meet at a public place during the day. The people i met with today, ended up being nice. I've already bank in the cash and i'm done with this whole thing. One more thing was with so many selling on Ebay, i rather secure a profit i am happy with rather than take the chance and deal with the possible headache that Ebay can pose. Well, would be nice if i could make more but i am only kinda greedy, not bloody greedy yet. :p

I heard a great suggestion a while ago. Have the meet location be the local police station. That's would I would do if selling locally.

The eBay PS3 market is a complete disaster. I checked through probably 50 listings about to end and almost all of them look like they've been bid on by NPBs. It's hard to even tell what the systems are actually going for now.

Considering someone got shot in my state(ps3 related) im not meeting with anyone!

Do you guys think it would be best to sell a 20gb ps3 on eBay right now, or wait a while?

Some people say right away because of the launch madness (everyone realizes they can't get one) and the fact that people will have just found out it was released and want one asap and go on eBay, but some have said later because it will be closer to christmas and for there might be less competition and choices for ps3s so people might settle with a 20 gb.

Any of you have opinions on this?

Looking at completed auctions this isn't too bad of a price. They *might* finish at $2500-$3000, but it is unlikely with a good buyer. $2000 is a very good price I think. I'd take that right now if I got a guaranteed good buyer. I listed mine at a start of $1500 and BIN of $2500. It makes me nervous that it has gotten no looks in the 2 hours it has been up. I'm thinking of dropping the BIN to $2000 just to get it over with. But I should know better - there's so many on there it will take a while for people to notice it.

I have a feeling the NPB's will peter out towards the end of today - most are people pissed at not getting one today. I don't think that will keep up through tomorrow when most of the auctions will be ending.

Since you really cannot predict how the market is, my advise to you is set a profit you are going to be happy with and sell it at that. My 2 cents.

I'm trying to list my PS3 and I need to enter HTML to get any formatting on my item discription. WTF? When I was at work it wasn't like this... HELP!!

There *should* be an option above to choose between HTML and the other format. I remember seeing HTML as a option in tab form but didnt pick it.

Also as an FYI mine i decided for 2, 100 BIN, no bites yet though 19 hours left

If you end an auction early is it still possible to go through ebay with the sale?

And also, what happens when you cancel a bid? I have some people who I think are scammers bidding, but it's early and the price isn't up too high yet. Should I even bother cancelling or blocking them?
