Wasn't thunder the new weakness vs dracoknights? I could be mistaken though. And OUCH.
Oh yeah, thunder. There were two thunder and two wind spirits, got confused.

The game really goes into fuck-you mode at the end, making all the enemies attack with magic and have unlimited movement. It even committed what I consider to be one of the greatest sins an SRPG can commit: it started pulling attacks out of nowhere. Now, I'm fine with surprises in SRPGs, but one of my favourite things about Fire Emblem is how easily you can see the math at work. And when they throw that out the window and start giving characters brand new attacks with totally unexplained mechanics, I get a little less happy. I get even more less happy when some of those attacks can OHKO a Heron from virtually anywhere on the map.

Now, I don't want you think for a second that I'm unhappy with the game. It's just that it... well, it broke its own damn rules.

...

And the ending was weak.

Yeah, forgot to mention that the ending was pretty anticlimactic but outside of the AoE attacks that showed up in the last endgame as you mentioned, it was otherwise awesome.
