Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:
I think it cost me around $10/$11 to ship them out before.
Do you have the bundles in your area, how much are they, and how much total would it put me out? I'm not 100% dedicated yet, but I'm considering it.

EDIT: Dang, what is with me and new page posts?!

I put the UPCs into a spreadsheet and printed out barcodes for most of them, so even though I didn't find much I was able to confirm a lot. It's a pain to look in that jumble under the glass so I may go back too. For now all I got was:

GBA Xevious, $1 (available for trade if anyone cares)
PS2 Outlaw Golf 2 $2
PS2 Monster Hunter $7 (debating about trading, it would probably take more than anyone would want to trade though)

I didn't even know there was a K-Mart left in my area, but it turns out there is one that's not too far. I went.

No Shadow Hearts, Wavebird bundles, or LCD screens. They had NDS Zookeeper and a few GBA games I wasn't interested in. (No, not Bubble Bobble).

Zookeeper had a $34.99 sticker on it. The woman at the register saw the price come up as $2. She said "You got a really good deal. You should go back and get the other two."

I've never had a cashier encourage me to hoard before ;)
I think I'll be going out Friday morning (it's the soonest I'll have any cash!) Has anyone tried the PS2 Red Dead Revolver or Psychonauts yet?
I got the xbox red dead revolver for 2 bucks, I imagine the ps2 version will not be a problem.
I think I'll be going out Friday morning (it's the soonest I'll have any cash!) Has anyone tried the PS2 Red Dead Revolver or Psychonauts yet?
My store didn't have any, but I scanned Red Dead from a printed barcode and it was $2. Didn't know to print Psychonauts at the time.

I picked up a Wavebird/Mario Party 4 Bundle for $17 and Baten Kaitos for $7 earlier. One thing ZOO Keeper came up $24.99 and Red Dead Revolver (PS2) came up $19.99. I passed on those two. Thanks everyone.

I saw a ton of those Chicken Shoot games for the GBA. Anyone check that yet? Also I believe every Lemony Snicket game is on sale I got PS2, Xbox and GC versions.

One more to add, SRS for GC $7, probably applies to all versions. Also has anybody checked the NES Metroid for GBA. I forgot to get that checked today, but I saw a ton of them at the store.

SRS?

Street Racing Syndicate probably.

Saw Smashing Drive for Gamecube clearance tagged $49.99. I thought it must be $1.00 or $2.00 and I need some more Gamecube spare cases (Wherehouse.com sending Cube games in standard DVD cases), so I thought I would pick one up. It actually scanned for $49.99 at the register! All Star Baseball 2004 for PS2 also scanned for $49.99 at the register (thought for sure it would be under $3)
SRS?
Street Racing Syndicate. Gotech, I checked Metroid yesterday, it came up $9.99. I didn't check any other GBA NES Classic games.

Edit: Just a little late. :)

The PS2 versions of Mega Man AC and Lemony Snicket are both $2. However, The XBox version of MMAC is apparently not on clearance.

Also, Tennis for PS1 is $1.

Tonight, I picked up:

Outlaw Golf 2 - $2
Monster Hunter - $7
SSX3 (non-GH) - $2

Thanks, OP! And everyone else who's verified pricing.:bouncy:

After waiting 10 minutes for someone to show up in the electronics dept, and then another 15 minutes for the guy with the keys to show up , I was able to look through their case, which is very hard since all the games are hidden behind the ones in the front. I saw a Wipeout Fusion in there and figured it must be, like, 25 cents. It was $29.99 . These REALLY old games, I guess, have been overlooked and are not on clearance one bit (or even reduced to a normal price).

I did manage to dredge up a MAT 2 for both GC and PS2 - both $2.

Oh, and I also price checked Amplitude, which had a yellow clearance tag showing $9.99. Much to my disappointment it rang up that way as well. I think the MAT 2's, on the other hand, were tagged $12 or something.

I ran into that problem yesterday with someone waiting for the keys to come into the electronics area. I had to wait almost a half hour. Turns out the only person who knew where the keys were, was out to lunch and no one, not even the manager knew where the keys were. I saw some games I wanted in the case that were on the list so I figured I would wait but had I just been a "normal customer" (someone just looking to pick up a game who stopped at K-Mart without being there for the clearance deals), I would have left.

It almost seems like the whole electronics area is an afterthought in most K-Mart's with the way they are organized
Hey guys, I have a K-Mart in my area that I haven't really checked out yet. Any suggestions on good stuff to look for?
No, none at all. Why, do they have good prices or a sale or something?

I have a couple of e-Reader + GBA bundles at my K-Mart. They rang up as $60 a couple of months ago. I am quite qurprised that they have not dropped.

My K-Mart had absolutely nothing... seriously, there wasn't a single item from that list there (I took the list with me). Unbelievable.

BTW, I alphabitized the list for convenience in case some of you might need it.

Add Romancing Saga for PS2 to the list for $9.99. Though, that was the clearance tag price on the game, I should've had it price checked real quick.

Also, add Barbarian for PS2 for $9.99. And Siren(PS2), which was marked $29.99, rang up to $19.99.

And, I verified Dark Cloud 2 for $7 tonight at my local Kmart. First time I've actually seen this game in a store really.

Also, from the prior threads, add Rise To Honor for I believe $8, unless it dropped again.

Oh and neocisco and Pooky, I should've grabbed that damned copy of FFVII when I had the chance, went back tonight and LONG GONE. LOL

And, on an unrelated note, I picked up a kind of beat up copy of the guide for Zone of the Enders from my usual indy shop, as well as copies of a massive PS1 'strategy collection book', which includes one for FFVII AND a copy of the now hard to find GTA III PS2 guide.

I checked a PS2 Red Dead Revolver(GH), it STILL rings up $19.99. And, I found copies of Tekken Tag, which ALSO rang up $19.99.

Funniest thing I've found, was a copy of Airblade(which is 2-4 yrs old I think) in the corner of one the one cases in the one Kmart.

IT RANG UP $39.99!!!! WTF!!!!!

Also, I kind of expected Snake Eater to drop to like $7 or so since Subsistence came out, it ALSO rings up $19.99.

Good thing I waited for a drop on Dark Cloud 2, I almost bought it for $18 the other day. Thanks for the heads up.

ALSO, I have a question about the price scanners. Is there a typical place they're usually located? I don't think I've ever seen one in a K-Mart, only Wal-Mart and Target.

The Kmart I checked Dark Cloud 2 in had it(price check scanner) right near the electronics dept. And shockingly, it was accurate to the price already mentioned here.

I think sometimes you have to have it checked at the register to reflect the correct price, though some of these prices may be YMMV.

One thing I noticed at this Kmart though, they had up several new signs making people well aware of the new price drops, which included a medium sized sign advertising FFXI w/HDD for $25.

Maybe this is the dawn of a new era of actually wanting their products to move at whatever price they're listed at instead of sitting and collecting dust for years? One can hope.....

My buddy hit the Patrick Street KMART and talked to the guy working there.

"Any PSONE/LCD combos?"

"Nope...all gone, pal."

"Uhh....is it true they were ringing in at like ten bucks"

The guy grins.

"Man, they were $8."

Holy crap, yes! My Kmart only had Megaman AC for the PS2, so I was bummed that I couldn't grab a copy...but looks like I should've scanned em myself. Guess I'm making another trip back for that and Megaman X8!

Great score... I just don't understand how some K-Marts have nothing while others are gold mines! I searched two K-Marts and saw nothing. What gives?

My local Kmart didn't have much - but this weekend I'll hit another to check what they have (they tend to not be as popular, so they might have some stuff left over). Mine did have Madden 05, Alphalt GT and Ultimate Spiderman (all DS) on the clearance shelf - does anyone know if they're in this deal? I may have to check tomorrow morning...

One of the Orlando K-Marts has a few items from this thread.

I came a way with a Mario Party4/Wavebird combo for $17

PS 2 Soul Calibur 2 for $5

No PS2 Logitech controllers though, or the airflow ones for PS2 either.

When I made my purchase they had 3 MP4/Wavebird combos left, and 1 Metroid/Wavebird combo, as well as 1-2 regular Wavebirds in the electronics dept counter case. They also have a few of the games for various systems on the list some are even marked with the CAG price already in the regular video game display cases.

I've worked retail, and didn't want to bother the very nice, helpful woman too much with alot of multiple scanning since she was so nice and they'd gotten in a truck either yesterday or today, but I'm pretty sure most of the other games will ring up the price that's here on CAG too.

I'm mainly into the PS 2, and making preparations for the Wii with Gamecube with cheap finds/deals, so I didn't look at the Xbox or GBA games but I'm pretty sure they have atleast a couple of titles from each genre there too.

Thanks alot OP/S for posting these deals.

I just got back from another store. Here's this haul:
:gba:
Boktai The Sun Is In Your Hands x2 $8
Beyblade G Revolution $2
:ps2:
NBA Ballers $2
Shaman King Power Of Spirit $5
:gc:
Mega Man Anniversary Collection $2
Wario ware,Inc. Mega Party Game$! $7
PS1
Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage $3
Spyro: Year Of The Dragon $3

I've been getting lucky with co-operative associates too! They have scanned everything I've asked them to and have spent more than average time with me. The guy today actually left me with the case wide open (& his keys) while he rang up a customer!

Went to next closest Kmart to me and found this:

Zelda Collector's Edition Promo Disc

It was marked 49.99, which i thought was outrageous so i had someone check.

Not for resale? SIKE! Sold for 5 bucks.

I was lucky to find that. Maybe some of you might find one.

I got one for free from nintendo back when they came out! :)

I'll update the list later tonight.

Someone might want to check on Fire Emblem GBA, as I remember getting it for $12 sometime around christmas time, so its gotta be real cheap now

I found a store with 5 of these. It does not ring up (says "enter amount" on their register apparently). They guy sees that it says "Not for resale" on the front and concludes that he can't sell it (why the hell are they sitting in the front of the display case then!?).

Second day I get a different guy (and his friend). He is ringing up all my $2 games and does Driv3r for $2. Then he scans Zelda, it says "enter amount", and he thinks it refers to Driv3r so he enters the fucking sticker price on Driv3r which is $49.99 (why couldn't he have had one of the $8 stickered games before!). Then later when I'm removing the games that weren't on sale I have to include the Zelda, which they inform me with authority costs "$49.99", from the transaction. Bastards... I don't think they realized that was the totally artificial price they themselves put in (there were 2 of them doing my transaction at this point). I might try again one more time tomorrow.
