Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:
Do these prices apply to the Platinum Hits/Player's Choice versions of games too? I saw GC Starfox adventures and Soul Calibur II but they only had the P.C. versions.
There are a few exceptions with some Gamecube Player's Choice titles at K-Mart. They sold special versions of Animal Crossing, StarFox Adventures, Metroid Prime, Mario Party 4, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker that had different UPC codes than the ones sold everywhere else. If there is a K-Mart logo on the cover, it has a different UPC. I don't know if the clearance rate is different for the different UPCs.

Ended up grabbing 2 mario party 4 bundles, baten katios, rumble roses, and Monster Hunter. All are up for trade if anyone is looking for them.

I tried a copy of Red Dead Revolver for PS2 at the register of my one local Kmart last week. Sadly, it's still ringing up @ $19.99. I have a copy of it, but my one old PS2 scratched a ring into it.

Guess I have to take it to this indy game shop to get it resurfaced(for free no less). I hate having my discs resurfaced, since all it does is scrape layers of the disc OFF and leaves behind a residue.

Anyway, here's my purchases from Kmart for the last 2 weeks:

Midways Arcade Treasures 2(Xbox):$2
Thief(Xbox):$7
Shonen Jump's Shaman King(PS2):$5

I may stop back to the one Kmart tomorrow and grab the FFVII(solely to Ebay) I saw for $14.99 there.

Also, has anyone else noticed that sometimes there's a price difference between having the games/systems price CHECKED and telling the clerks you want to BUY them? I know this has happened with some penny guides before.
How did u scan em? Did you take em to a cash register?
Yeah man, I was all excited to find them but when I checked out that's what they rang up. This is really weird since the PS1 combo that I found for $10 was from a store not 10 miles from this one.

Numerous people have reported that when using the price checkers and UPC codes printed from online, the price may come up differently.

Sadly, the only way to get the real price to come up, is to pester the people in the game/electronics dept. to get them to scan the actual item.

If the item(s) still ring up the wrong price, THEN we know the prices are definitely YMMV.

I was able to get 3 new copies of Zoo Keeper for DS, They are all up for trade.

Im looking for copies of

Silent Hill 2 and 3 for PS2
MGS:TTS GCN
Metroid Zero Mission
Shadow Hearts Covenant

:)

Hit one of the stores around here today (the closest one). They didn't have much. My buddy got Metal Slug Advance for $10 and I picked up a non-platinum hit Silent Hill 2 (xb) for $15. I'll be checking out the other local stores here in a day or two.
I was able to get 3 new copies of Zoo Keeper for DS, They are all up for trade.

:)
Speaking of zoo keeper, they trade in for $7.50ish at gamecrazy...not bad if you can find a bunch.

My local Kmart has at least one, maybe 2 marked $40. But hell, if they're marked down to $25, I may grab one.

CRAP!!! I forgot, the slim PS2 doesn't support the HDD.

Oh well, scrap that idea.

Zoo Keeper or Zoo Tycoon??

Zoo Keeper rang up 19.99 when I went to check out...

Also I had them ring up the NES Classic GBA games Metroid, Ice Climber and another common one that I forget all were 9.99 but marked more.
Zoo Keeper is the game that is clearanced. I still think some prices are somewhat YMMV based on that
Well that sucks, EVERYTHING else matched the games on the list in the 1st post at both Kmarts i've tried. No biggie, I already have my $10 copy from Gamerush way back when. I was just gonna pick up an extra to try to sell and one to give my mom since she loves puzzlers and I got her a DS.

I have a few more to add to the list:

Spider-Man Platinum Hits (XBox) $5.00
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (GC) $7.00
Star Wars Jedi Starfighter (PS2) $10.00
MLB 2005 (PS2) $7.00
Athens 2004 (PS2) $7.00
Mario Golf Advance Tour (GBA) $3.00

Also, I saw a few decent prices that ended in .99 instead of .00:

Bomberman Jetters (GC) $9.99
Beyond Good & Evil (PS2) $9.99
Hitman Contracts (PS2) $5.99

Finally, to add to the YMMV price stuff, I had a copy of Starfox Adventures ring up at $8.00. That was at the register, not on a price gun.

Mark of Kri for $21??? Its $4.99 at Best Buy and they have TONS of them. (at least the one I went to)

The Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Midway Arcade 2, and Nyko Airflo Controller sound like gotta haves for me. I have an Airflow for GameCube and PS2 and they're both so great. I really recommend them to anyone who plays a lot of action games (or have sweaty hands). Fan has 2 speeds and off, keeps my hands dry and cool, and the controller itself is nice quality too.

I'm actually halfway interested in My Disney Kitchen for PS1 if by chance they have any copies left as I heard it's one of the worst/creepiest (in a cheery sort of way) games for Playstation - so I gotta try it.

DOA3 and Shadow Hearts would be nice but I'm guessing they're probably all long gone by now.

I got a question. There are a lot of these MP3 players in the glass in my local K-Mart. My guess is that they've been there for at least a couple years and haven't been sold. Now I cant think of the name, but its in a blue box, and it's a simple one line display. I've been wanting to ask a employee to ring it up for me, but he'd probably get sick from all the dust when he took it out.

So anyone know about these things if they are clearanced or have seen them before?
Mark of Kri for $21??? Its $4.99 at Best Buy and they have TONS of them. (at least the one I went to)
Did you mean the Rise of Kasai that was $5 at BB?

Went to a Charleston, WV K-Mart (we have two in the area...this was the Kanawha City one) and scoured the electronics section. Found absolutely nothing save from a copy of Alias marked clearance for 14.99$. It was even in the locked-up display case like someone would want it.

They didn't have a clearance section or even a little box full of games.....

I was hoping for Splinter Cell......ah well....

Don't expect the other K-Mart to have anything either...

So at most K Marts is this stuff in clearance bins or what? I just don't want to go to the electronics dept. and then overlook a potential goldmine because they were right outside it in a clearance bin.

Most stores have their games entirely in the glass case. Unless you search through every game you might miss something. I was at a store yesterday where the up to 8 different games were on each shelf and the only way to see what they had was to look through each shelf manually by taking other games out.

This is YMMY!! I "bought" SC2 (PS2) $8.00, Rumble Roses (PS2) $6.00, SF:Ann (PS2) $8.00 and F-Zero GX (NGC) $5.00. This sucks!!!

Anyone know if Psychonauts for the PS2 ever got clearanced? forgot to have it scanned yesterday.
Anyone know if Psychonauts for the PS2 ever got clearanced? forgot to have it scanned yesterday.
I'd be curious as well. I might be headed out there today, if no one's checked by then I will. My Kmart didn't have any clearance titles that I could find, aside from I think one copy of Xevious and one copy of the MM4 Blue or whatever, but I know they had PS2 and Xbox copies of Psychonauts.

Approximately how much would shipping be for the FFXI and HDD package? If it isn't too much, I might be interested if someone could hook me up.

Bleh.. all those Zero Missions I saw were the $25 bundle pack.. that sucks. They also didn't have any other good games listed on the clearance list.

Totally unrelated, however, I did manage to grab a sealed, non-greatest hits copy of Silent Hill 2 that's going up on eBay as soon as I can get my camera working.. so I guess the trip wasn't a waste.

I managed to pick up:

Warioware GC (for trade) for $7
Custom Robo (add to list?) for $10

and . . . most important because I was hoping to find one . . .
Lemony Snicket Xbox for $2 (other than my kids, I'm not sure why I want it :)

Hehe, I got Lemony Snicket for GC for $5 at Target a while back. It is still sitting in my closet with the huge pile of games I got for $5 or less for the kids and dole out to them every once in a while.

I hope the Kmart I went to on Saturday still has those Zoo Keepers (they had about 5 or 6). I thought they were pretty useless (I already had it) but if they get $7+ at Gamecrazy I might get a few more. I need to build up GC credit as a hedge against GR :D. Plus I wouldn't mind making another attempt at purchasing the Zelda CE's (hopefully a different employee is there).

I just picked up a wavebird/metroid prime bundle for $19.99. There were 3 left. Now I just have to figure out how I'm gonna get rid of Metroid Prime (it has an ugly K mart sticker on it).
Approximately how much would shipping be for the FFXI and HDD package? If it isn't too much, I might be interested if someone could hook me up.
I think it cost me around $10/$11 to ship them out before.

I stopped at two local Kmarts and saw very few of the games listed. More specifically, the few that I wanted were NOWHERE to be found. This bothers me greatly. Plus the monkey working at one of the stores actually seemed offended that he had to come over and open a case for me. Are you guys just buying up the games and eBaying them, or selling them to people on here? There's only a small handful I wanted, but could not find.
I stopped at two local Kmarts and saw very few of the games listed. More specifically, the few that I wanted were NOWHERE to be found. This bothers me greatly. This is a clearance--many of the stores sold out of these games months and months ago... be glad if you can find anything whatsoever :)

I stopped by 2 stores today. I found nothing at the first store I went to so I thought today would be a Bad Hunting day for me. I stopped by the second expecting to find nothing but managed to find some games that I wanted.

Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes x2 - $5.00 But rang up $7.00 ( Cashier Pirce Overrided it )

F-Zero GX - $5.00
Viewtiful Joe 2 GC - $3.50
Baten Kaitos GC - $7.00
Monster Hunter PS2 - $7.00 But marked $18.00 on the Sticker

Thanks OP Since I found the game I really wanted. If anyone wants to play Monster Hunter tonight let me know.
I just picked up a wavebird/metroid prime bundle for $19.99. There were 3 left. Now I just have to figure out how I'm gonna get rid of Metroid Prime (it has an ugly K mart sticker on it).
I sold the Metroid game on Half.com about a year ago because I had the same problem (wanted the controller and not the game). I got around $10 for it before comission. Just state that it has the K-Mart logo on it and the wavebird controller is not included (because of course the case says it is).

Thanks! I just listed mine for $10.

Sword of Mana is $7 - just got one today. You can remove the question mark :D.

There was an E-Reader system marked $12 at my store, maybe someone else can confirm it as universal before adding it.

Well, if you are really slimey (like me), you can return the game for $20 and keep the controller. The UPC for the sale is only on the game. Last year (when I bought 2 sets at $20 each) I tried this . . . just to see if it was possible.

I don't recommend it, but it did work.

At another Kmart, I found a copy of Metrold 0 Mission that I would trade

Went to K-Mart, they had a young guy working customer service, I sent my girlfriend up to either get an adjustment on Monster Hunter, or return and rebuy.

The guy said he couldn't adjust them, but that he would gladly return and rebuy, he had no problems doing that at all.

Monster Hunter is confirmed to be $7.00 now (I know someone else mentioned it too), which is a hell of a deal.

This whole returning / rebuying is probably very YMMV, I just got lucky (again).
