Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

Did you act crazy once you found them? I would be peering over my shoulder the entire way to the checkout with weapons ready to stike out at the first customer that got too close. :)
Today picked up

Spongebob Squarepants GBA Video Vol. 1 1.50

but definately the best of all (although not exactly discounted) is 2x copies of FFVII GH for 14.99
If someone has an extra Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, I would pay $15 shipped (I would also trade, but I don't have much up for trade...let me know if you are interested).

EDIT: got one...

Hit 2 more Kmarts today. One from earlier this week and one in royal BFE. I scored:

Metal Gear Solid TS and Rainbow Six Black Arrow for XBOX

And as an Extra thing since i was there I picked up a Superman Bed pillow for 6 bucks. Lol. I also zipped by BEST BUY and picked up the last FULL AUTO faceplate for $4.99. Still plenty of penny TR skins. (sterling heights MI) I already have MGS: TS but picked it up hoping for a trade for someone that Found Monster Hunter for PS2.

EDIT:

I wanted to mention the MGS game is Non-GH. :)

Didn't find a whole lot. Grabbed both versions of MegaMan Anniversary Collection though. Also saw quite a few of the WaveBird/Mario Party 4 bundles.

Picked up a few extra Dark Cloud 2's, PS2 Full Spectrums, and Midway Arcade 2's PS2 and a few NHL 2k5 Xbox that I'd be more than happy to entertain offers on.

Also...

Not a video game deal but I did see a $20 classical guitar at one of the K-Marts that I visited. It looked to be of OK quality too, so if you're looking for one, definitely check it out.

Sent you a pm.

Well, I tried a road trip to Western Mass yesterday and found some pretty ghetto KMarts.

West Springfield looked promising, it had a good size game section but it didn't turn out so great. The case was impossible to look through completely, but I saw most of what was in there. Grabbed a bunch of e-Reader cards for 40 cents each and a DS kit for $9.
Holyoke was terrible. It was easy to look through, but that's because the game section was absolutely miniscule. Surprisingly, I found Mario Golf Advance Tour for $3.
Palmer looked like another Holyoke, tiny game section with nothing to be found. Then I saw the shelf in the middle of that aisle full of "$19.99 and under" games. Score! They were mostly marked inappropriately (PC/GH titles with 19.99 clearance tags? wtf?) but that helped more than anything. I basically pulled out one of each title and found and made a pile to bring to the scanner. I couldn't go to crazy, so I put some stuff back. None of the

Does anyone have an idea when there may be another price cut? I figured I'd ask cause a lot of the stores around me still have stuff that's a little too much to grab now.

In case you picked up a few Kmart $2 cheapies and don't know what to do with them, you might try the GS/EB trade 4 get $10 bonus deal.

I got $6 for MAT 2, and was quoted $6 for Outlaw Golf 2. With the bonus they both get bumped to $8.50. Not a bad return on $2. Both GR and GC quoted less than $2 for MAT 2, so I was surprised at the value at EB.

Probably at least a few weeks depending on how often the drops were occuring in the past. The last price drop just happened less than 2 weeks ago so I don't think they would drop them for a while.

I re-checked 2-3 of the local Kmarts here today. I was shocked that I had passed up several cheap games prior to this.

I took a copy of the updated list with me today and found the following:
Moosic, PA Kmart

Chronicles Of Riddick:Escape From Butcher Bay(XB) $5(1 left)
Medal Of Honor:Frontline(XB)$5(don't remember how many left, if any)

Edwardsville, PA Kmart

Rumble Roses(PS2)Marked for $14.99, shelf sign said $9.00, came up $3.50
Shadow Hearts Convenant(PS2) Marked $49.99, came up the $7.00 price

And, I also saw copies of Unreal Tournament II for Xbox, marked for I believe $7.00 in the case.

Also, in case no one else mentioned this yet, I found a Kmart with copies of Romancing Saga marked for $9.99.

Wow, I'll have to look for that. I've been wanting to get Romancing Saga.

Well I went back to the Kmart that had just closed by the time I got in. ALL the Red Dead's were gone. They had at least a few when I was there last and of course I didn't get any last time.

Nothing really special, I picked up:

For GameCube:
Midway Arcade Treasures 2
F-Zero GX

For PS2:
Jak II (GH)
King of Fighters Maximum Impact

If anyone wants to trade, LMK.

Nothing left at my kmarts for GameCube oweners on sale picked up the last midway arcade 2 and army men rts for 1.50 they had a like 4 wavebird combos left at one kmart the other looks like busted the combos open and had "wavebird exclusive" metriod primes for idividual sale.

sailorneorune reporting in...

They have 3 or 4 Mario Party bundles and 1 Metroid Prime bundle remaining at the Henderson, KY Kmart, so if I can help a CAG get one (hopefully with a small incentive for me ^_~ ), someone please let me know.

I bought one this afternoon, but I'm keeping the controller from it and the Mario Party 4 will be up for trade (variant collectors... come to Neorune).

Thanks MightySlacker for this wonderful thread. ^_^

Checked two K-Marts yesterday, NOTHING good. One had King of Fighters for $4.99, but that was it.

On a side note, today I went to purchase Twin Snakes, and got accused of stealing. There was nobody in the electronics, then finally an employee came over and I asked if he could open the case. He left to get the keys, so I started looking at a stack of Jam Packs on the shelf to see if anything else was in there. Some older guy wearing a white shirt came over and had keys in his hands, so I assumed he was going to open the case for me. I said I needed a game, so he starts looking through all the games outside of the case and said, in a really pissed off tone, "make sure you pay for everything" and waited there for the guy to come with keys. I wanted to threaten him with the BBB but I didn't feel like getting yelled at/kicked out before I got my game so I kind of just stood there with my WTF face in total shock. After the guy came with the keys he left as if nothing happened.

All I found was Mario Bros. and SMB3 for eReader atboth K marts near me (Tulsa, OK).
Did anyone actually find the PSone or its LCD at their Kmarts?

When I went out Saturday, I found:

2x PSone + LCD combo ($10 each @ Store A)
3x PSone LCD ($13 each @ Store B)

Actually there were 4 of the LCDs, but one of the boxes looked like it had been opened before.

At the store where I found the 2 system + lcd combos, one was in the display case tagged at $100 and the other was in the stock room (after seeing the first, I asked if they could check if they had any more).

Both were at somewhat out of the way locations.

(As a note, they're not up for trade, at least not at the moment)

I stopped by the 2nd of my two K-Marts and found mucho handheld games. 3 copies of Zoo Keeper, and two other DS games. They looked like dating sims and I'm blanking on the names. Also 2 copies of Metal Slug Advance, Mega Man Red & Blue, along with another Mega Man game. The Mario Party card game, a Pokemon video and a few other piddly things. I'm sure the names will come back to me @ 2 in the morning.

Also, a few copies of FZero, Star Fox Adventures, DOA4, Full Spectrum Warrior and the other usual suspects. (Soul Calibur 2/ Splinter Cell)

They had a copy of Street Fighter Anniversay for Xbox and I took a shot a price check, but it still rang up for $20

:whistle2:(

Also, a few copies of FZero, Star Fox Adventures, DOA4, Full Spectrum Warrior and the other usual suspects. (Soul Calibur 2/ Splinter Cell)

They had a copy of Street Fighter Anniversay for Xbox and I took a shot a price check, but it still rang up for $20

sent you a pm for zookeeper
I stopped by the 2nd of my two K-Marts and found mucho handheld games. 3 copies of Zoo Keeper, and two other DS games. They looked like dating sims and I'm blanking on the names.

Sounds like Sprung and/or Feel the Magic...? Were these marked with clearance prices?
Sounds like Sprung and/or Feel the Magic...? Were these marked with clearance prices?
Sprung was one, but I can't for the life of me remember the other. I'll scour the DS titles online and try to remember what the third one was. Sprung was price for $5 or $7. I'll double check when I pick up the copies of Zoo Kepper.

Saw a few new things today:

GBA Lego Bionicle: $2

GC 1080 Avalanche: not sure, but it was clearance tagged at $12, so probably $2 or $5. I should have grabbed it but by the time I tracked someone down and he found the keys and all, I forgot about it.

I was able to find a new, sealed Logitech PS2 wireless controller for $12 though. Then I went to CC and saw someone buy one for $39.99. Sucker... :D
Nothing more today.

I was hoping the PS2 Red Dead was on sale too, but it rang up $19.99.
Have you found ANYTHING in the Portland area? I've found the Kmarts around here to be utterly devoid of any clearance items (and they NEVER had the Wavebird bundles - even last year when they first went on sale). The Lego Bionicle and Logitech controller I got today were from a Kmart I didn't even know existed up there by the airport. The ones further down 205 have been barren for a while. I wasted 15 minutes of my life that I'll never get back going to the one in Oregon City the other day.

I think someone mentioned it was $10, and I saw a copy for $10 in a K-Mart that had the right price on everything else.

I could barely wait to get off work to go there because I assumed the clearance items there would be like hidden treasure. Sure enough, I get there and just KOF for $4.99. They also had wireless PS2 controllers bundled with Spiderman for $31.49 (HAH) but no Wavebird bundles or anything, I was in a serious state of WTFness. I have yet to see any wavebird bundles, and I didn't even know PS2 controller bundles existed until yesterday, so believe me I feel your pain.

Now I have to wait until I get paid Friday to go to two more K-Marts that are about 70 miles away. I'm doubtful I'll find anything but it's the thrill of the hunt I guess.

Did you get them price checked or did you just read the shelf tag? If you only saw the shelf tag or price sticker on the item chances are it was an old price tag and not up to date.

Grabbed 2 Silent Hill 2's today....one GH and one non-GH. I also ran into a fellow CAGer shiningslade (who started the original thread). Thanks OP. Anyone have an extra Silent Hill 3 and need a 2? Maybe we can do a trade...
Also, in case no one else mentioned this yet, I found a Kmart with copies of Romancing Saga marked for $9.99.
This may be YMMV -- tried scanning at the store here and it came up $29.99.

Came up on the register the first time I stopped by. Tried a week later and same price with the gun. I"ll just keep an eye out.

The price gun and the price check scanner(the do it yourself one) are very iffy at best. This is why, even if the clerk considers it to be a pita, I have them take the item from the case and try it at the register.

If you don't ask, you won't know, though others have reported the LCD coming up at $58 instead of $13, so anything is possible.

Alright i went back to kmart for another haul yesterday, here is what i got

Midway arcade classics 2 gcn 2$
Viewtiful joe 2 gcn$3.50
Starfox adventures gcn 5$

most of the gameboy stuff wasnt in stock except wing commander prophecy for 7$ and a ton of metroid zero mission for 7$, they were unmarked, only one copy was marked in the bottom of the case and thats the one i bought the other day. The metroid zero missions are in the corner of the case obscured by some of that matte finish looking glass so its easy to miss them unless you look closely.

They also had a ton of sharktale for gba and gcn but both rang up for 19.99 when i scanned the barcode at the scanner.

Did you (or anyone else) inquire about some of the other games on the list? I may call tonight...

Can someone pick me up a Silent Hill 2 (regular and/or GH version), I'll pay cost + extra.

Or I have the following for trade:

X-Men Legends 2 (GC) sealed
Baiten Katos sealed
La Pucelle sealed
Geist sealed
Harvest Moon:AWL sealed
Megaman Ann. gets 9.50 and Whinnie the Pooh gets 7.50 at GS/EB
I was quoted $8 for Megaman Anniversary for PS2. Is that Winnie the Pooh the console version, or GBA version? I traded the GBA one for $6.60 at GC, but didn't try it at EB since GBA games don't qualify for the $2.50 bonus.
