Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:

The 50 mile radius worked good for me, you can just enter a city that is close to you if you want to find more kmarts.

I will probably try to stop at another kmart tomorrow to pick up more games as i pretty much picked mine clean. I will try the shark tale barcodes there as well if i go tomorrow, ok off to print more barcodes!

Do note though, that the storefinder apparently only shows the first 10 results. You may need to adjust your search paramaters...

I hate K-Mart. I find nothing at two K-Marts on Thursday, and now the K-Mart I generally visited doesn't have the deal. Get this: yellow tagged items are 40% off. So for example, you guys, at your non-closing/converting to Sears Essentials stores can get Lemony Snicket for $2. I could get it for $9.60. So even if there were any clearanced games, I couldn't get them cheap.

I was debating picking up some GBA SPs for $50, but I wanted to come back and check their resale value first since all sales are final. If I can get decent money, I might get one of the new graphites and sell my pearl blue. Or just sell a sealed graphite. Any market on here for GBAs?

I dont think the resell value on the gba sp's is very high even if its the backlit version (definitly dont buy them if they are the old version), with the DSL out now it will be even lower, maybe if the gba sp's dropped to 40$ each it would be worth it. From what i see factory sealed gba sp's only get about 60$ on ebay and thats for the backlit one. Factor in listing fees and final value fee's and its just not worth it.

It might be worth it to sell them around christmas time on ebay, especially if you have a few old games you dont like anymore to throw in with the package, or if you can come up with some 1-2$ accessories to throw in with the package as well.

But the backlit SPs are still good to have. Neither the DS nor the DS Lite can connect to a Gamecube, and hopefully they will still work on the Wii.

EDIT: Comparing to my new DS Lite :)D) on its brightest setting, the backlit SP on its brightest setting is not significantly dimmer. They are very, very close.

Yeah, I figure I'll stop by the store over the next couple weeks and see if it drops to 50% or more. The cashier had no idea when they were becoming a Sears Essentials, so who knows if and how far they will drop.
I will try the shark tale barcodes there as well if i go tomorrow, ok off to print more barcodes!
Shark Tale PS2/GC/XBox is $2, GBA is $19.99. I checked again today.

Hit a reasonable goldmine today at K-mart. The cashier dude was fucking loving it. I got:

:xbox:
2x Driv3r
Full Spectrum Warrior

:ps2:
3x Megaman Anniversary Collection
Conflict: Vietnam
Eye Toy Groove
Logitech Wireless PS2 Controller

:gc:
Viewtiful Joe 2
2x Mario Party Wavebird bundle

:gba:
Shaman King
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits
Metroid Zero Mission

So they're shitty games, but hey, they'll come in handy for the B2G1F after trading in 4 for $10 bonus.

They had plenty of wavebirds, I just got 2 out of around 6. If it drops again I might go back (although that guy that works there might clear it out now...).

None of the K-Marts in Maine are doing this. I called around, and they treated me like I was insane.

Ummmm Blade, you can't just 'call around', you have to actually GO to the Kmarts with the list from the original post and LOOK for the games on it.

I mean, trust me, alot of Kmarts employees in the electronics dept. are basically clueless until you bring the games up, as very few stores I've been to have had accurately reduced game prices.

So, again, print up a copy of the list from the OP and take it with you to some local Kmart stores.

And, while you're on CAG, check out the Sears thread, as there are some great games on sale there too(ICO for PS2 for $10 and Ninja Gaiden Black for XBox for $15, to name a few).
None of the K-Marts in Maine are doing this. I called around, and they treated me like I was insane.
Yes, they are. All KMarts everywhere are doing it (with the exception of stores converting to Sears Essentials), the employees just don't know anything about it. I've ended up talking to the electronics lead at my closest store quite a bit (he's even offered to pull stuff for me if I call, but of course I have no idea what there until I get there) and he knew there had been clearance markdowns, but even he had no idea he had stacks of $2-$5 games on his shelves.
Print out some UPCs and scan them. Just print any of the cheap ones, even if the store doesn't have the games the price will still scan and you'll see.
At Gaithersburg, MD K-Mart, I got a HDD for the 360 for $49.99!

Before anyone asks, it was the only one.
I was poking around that store about 2 weeks ago (my mother lives within walking distance of it and I was visiting her while on my trip). That store is the absolute worst for finding someone to open the damn case. That's where I saw a Logitech wireless controller that had been opened and used. Glad I passed on it as I found one after I got home. Part of the problem is that they don't have a separate electronics section like most Kmarts with a cashier right at the front - so there is never anyone staffing it. Very annoying.

Anyway, at a completely different Kmart today I was able to snag a Zoo Keeper and Eye Toy Groove. They went straight to EB for bonus goodness.

Glad people are finding stuff, just go up to the service desk if you need someone to open the case, half the reason why all these games are left is cause no one is ever in the electronics at kmart to open the case, its the same at my kmart.

Hey guys. What's this "bonus goodness" you're talking about at EB games? Just trade in credit, or is there really a "bonus" too? Thanks.
Hey guys. What's this "bonus goodness" you're talking about at EB games? Just trade in credit, or is there really a "bonus" too? Thanks.
Right now (ends the 13th) they have a trade in 4 PS2, GCN, xbox, PSP, or DS games and get $10 bonus credit (there's a thread on it too).

I traded in 12 games from the K-mart sale and 2 oldass games and got $30 bonus for a total of $77.75. I paid about $32 for em so I'm pretty happy.
Thanks for that, I found a few within 200 mile radius I didn't know about either.
I really hope no one is driving 200 miles both ways to get some $2 games - only IAMTHECHEAPESTASSEDGAMER would do that

Ok i hit the jackpot at the amherst kmart, i bought a lot of games all under 5$ each (some for myself some for trade in), i ran into another understanding employee and a push button to call for service to the electronics dept (all kmarts should have those!) Get this, this kmart had about 3x the games that the niagara falls location did, not only did they have the huge case against the wall, but there was ANOTHER case full of games, they dont have a lot of cube stuff though.

I got:

Shark tale xbox - 2$
Need for speed hot pursuit 2 gc (keeping) - 5$
Spyro Heroes tale gc (keeping, reciept says "video game") - 5$
Fairly odd parents volume 2 gba video x2 - 1.50
dragon ball gt gba video vol 1 - 1.50
duel masters ps2 - 3.50

driv3r 3 ps2 (what the reciept said) but the game just says driv3r on the side) - 2$.

midway arcade 2 xbox - 2$
Starsky and hutch x box- $1.99

Of worthy note the GBA videos for YUGIOH and POKEMON do not seem to be included in this clearance as when i had the nice clerk price check them they were coming up as 9.99 each.

Question does anyone know if Driv3r ps2 or starsky and hutch xbox are considered as sports games for this deal?

OK, so I've honestly been to about 30 kmarts this month, from Joliet IL, to Indianapolis, to Muskegon MI and back to my home store. I've noticed a few things:

 • The best deals are found at stores that have a lot of competition around them. These are what I call forgotten stores. They were there first, but competition came it and drew the customers away. Usually set back from main roads, kind of out of the way.
 • Urban is better than rural.
 • Bad areas of town yield the best stuff.
 • Kmart the biggest store in town? SKIP IT.
 • Super K Marts are a waste of time.
 • If you're looking for a PS1 Combo or a FFXI, be sure to ask about it. A lot of times they're not visible in the display or not displayed at all
Question does anyone know if Driv3r ps2 or starsky and hutch xbox are considered as sports games for this deal?
I traded in Driv3r for xbox with no problem for the deal, and i doubt starsky and hutch would be considered sports so you should be fine.

As long as it's not a sports game, they won't fight you because I went to EB the other day and I know the guy. He said they have to do it manually now, so another reminder for all those doing this trade in. Make sure they are adding your money on.

Is racing game such as NFS and Burnout considered a sports game?
Is racing game such as NFS and Burnout considered a sports game?
They shouldn't but you could always get an EB clerk having a bad day. I had one who wouldn't take Outlaw Golf 2 ($2 from Kmart). Then I traded 2 at 2 other EB's no problem. The first guy also wouldn't take NBA for PSP, but that I can kind of understand. I haven't tried that anywhere else because the value wasn't high enough anyway.

Are you sure that PSP and DS games qualify? I asked a clerk last week, and he said only PS2, Xbox and GCN games will work for the extra $10.

DS games work, I don't believe PSP do, but I could be mistaken.

I actually traded in one DS game for the deal, so I know they work. I'm pretty sure on the sign and in the flyer it had all those listed, but I could be wrong about PSP, I never actually traded in any of those.

I went to the KMart in Vinceness, IN today... didn't find much of anything exciting - they had two Mario Party 4/Wavebird packs for $17 and two Metroid Prime/WaveBird packs for $20.

The two Metroid packs are still on the shelves, but I grabbed the MP4 packs in hopes of selling them for a little bit of a bonus to add to my Wii fund after having to replace a tire last month and I would like to keep one Wavebird (so I'll have a total of 4 - yay!), but that's not necessary...

And for anyone wanting to know, the Princeton, IN KMart has nuffin' exciting. :(

LOL POOK, the days of me doing that without having another reason to be anywhere near those 'far off' areas are long gone.

Though, I admit, I was in Monticello area today to look into where the speed limit drops drastically, to try and help my fight against a speeding ticket I got there last week.

And Middletown, NY was a 'mere' 20-30 miles away, which is where I made one of my HUGE scores of penny guides about 3 months ago or so.

Oh well, maybe Wednesday when I'm headed to Newburgh to an auto auction with another relative.
I really hope no one is driving 200 miles both ways to get some $2 games - only IAMTHECHEAPESTASSEDGAMER would do that
I'd do it in a heartbeat if I could score as many games as some people in this thread. $30 in gas isn't too bad considering the great deals/trade in bonuses, and the experience of driving 200 miles for games while listening to 6 hours worth of 80's music. Sounds like a documentary to me.

It's also a plus if said K-Mart has a Little Caesar's Pizza. There haven't been any around here in like 8 years.

CRAZY BREAD :applause:

I found a wavebird/metroid combo today at Kmart.

I now I'm a new member, but my feedback on eBay is 67 - 100% if that matters. eBay id: bigdogn12

PM if you want it.

Just about ALL of my Kmarts have Little Caesar's still. Problem is that it's not the same as it was when there were actual standalone Caesar's. Pizza tastes different anyway. The Bread still rocks! I used to love getting those pizza pizza deals for 7.99 or 8.99 can't remember which!

list updated and upcs added to the OP. I will be hitting about 10 stores in cleveland the next few days and maybe there will be some more adds. I also second Brians post, those are some helpful tips
i wonder how they can afford to mark the games down so much.
It's a clearance. They're cutting their losses and getting rid of games that haven't sold in years so they have room to bring in new, popular games that sell. They're certainly taking a loss on this stuff, but the alternative is to keep it in inventory forever and never sell it at any price.

Bad for them, good for us!

I saw 2 copies of F-Zero GX (GC) - one with a black spine where it says "GameCube" and the other with a yellow spine. What's the difference?

The yellow spine is a Greatest Hits version.
