Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

Ok, here's a new one for the list and a bit strange.
:gba: Namco Museum/Mega Man BN 3 White Version packaged TOGETHER for $2
Also picked up
:xbox: Outrun 2 $5
:xbox: Read Dead Revolver $2
:ps2:Spyro A Hero's Tail $2
And I've gotten lucky again with :gba:Shark Tale. I got 6 of them for $2 each. I think they can come off the list as it seems they've raised the price back up to $19.99
Now just let me say this; I went to check out and they ring up $19.99 so I tell the guy that they're marked $2 and show him the sticker. He says "no way, they screwed up when marking them" So I told him that the guy in Electronics pointed them out to me at $2 each. So then he calls back to confirm and they can't believe it but they give them to me anyway. I walked out with 15 games for $36.:D
I also grabbed 2 Logitech's from another Kmart, then stopped at Gamecrazy and saw a bunch of PS2 games for $9.99 new. I picked up Zapper One Wicked Cricket for my son, but they had a bunch of different titles. Dual Hearts was one of them. I asked the guy about the Logitech controllers as they had a bunch on the wall at $39.99 & he tells me they're phenomenal controllers. He said he'd used one at his friends house and he did not have one, so me being the nice guy I am asked him if he could get one for $12 would he grab it and he's like Heck yes! So I told him to go down the road to Kmart as I'd left 1 there.:)

Well, I've never really noticed this thread until a couple of days ago. I decided to go to my local dump of a K-Mart to see what kind of deals they had going on. I had bought a Metroid/Wavebird bundle there before, but that was a long time ago.

Anyway, I had a list of games I wanted. The only ones I could find in the disorganized shelf were Feel the Magic, Mega Man Aniversiary Collection, and Zoo Keeper. I saw another Wavebird bundle in the back and asked her to check that one out for me too (It was the Mario Party 4 one).

Well, ALL of the games were ringing up at $19.99. Hoping to score some $2 games, I was angered at the outcome. But then she checked on the wavebird bundle, remember, with Mario Party 4. It rang up $7.

Let me repeat that for those in the back. I GOT MARIO PARTY 4 w/ WAVEBIRD FOR $7!

You guys might want to check out to see if your K-Mart has updated prices! I was happy with my trip!

Mario Party 4 is worth (going from memory so I could be wrong) $11 traded in at EB or GS. The Wavebird alone is worth the price, but you can make some money back if you're okay with flipping.

I'm holding onto the game. I've heard Mario Party 4 is close to perfection. I'm going to try and trade the Wavebird, though. I already have two.

That would be great if prices did drop again. I'll print some UPC's (I know it has been mentioned that it's not always accurate but I'll still try it) and try to get to K-Mart later today and start scanning the UPC's

It's always been accurate for me. I have a spreadsheet with the UPCs of all the clearance games in this thread (plus all the platforms if was on more than one) plus a bunch of unlisted stuff I saw at my KMart that I want to check anyway. I've scanned them all and they're always what the register shows, although those are still scribbled notes at this point.

Could you e-mail that to me? I would love to have it. I'll PM you with my address.

I thought it was really weird how the mario party bundle was $7, but all the other games were above the prices in this thread.

PRICE DROPS CONFIRMED.

Cocksuckers. I just got back last week from a 200 mile shopping trip that included about 10 K-Marts. Way too much stuff to even consider a return rebuy, and theres at least one place I have to hike back up to. OP will be updated shortly.

Dave
PRICE DROPS CONFIRMED.
Excellent. I need to stop by tonight to check more stuff anyway. Hopefully I can update my scribbled printout. The electronics manager has a bunch of stuff in back he's been meaning to clear out and now I'm glad he waited or else I would have bought it. Even better, he's going to call when he puts it out.

I just wanted to say I have completed my needed collection of Wavebirds. They will be put into immediate use picking fruit in my vast orchards.

I would like to thank munch, SpazX, hansolox1, and SailorDaravon for their efforts with "da ultimates hook up, yo" in helping me secure the needed devices. Argyle also deserved mention.

I'd be interested in MMX8, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, and multiple copies of Warioware (GC) and Metroid: Zero Missions if anyone is able to run across them for trading purposes. Please understand I can only really trade at the moment, although I might be able to spare da moneyz. Maybe.

Thanks all once again! Proof that CAG rocks hardcore.
Thanks for the confirmation, I'll try to see what the $7 games dropped to
BAH! I already bought the Final Fantasy Tactics and Metroid Zero Missions at my store when they were $7 and $9, respectively. Oh, well. If I had waited till now, I might not have been able to find them.

Thanks again everyone for staying on top of this thread with drops and updates.

Does anyone know what the deal with my K-mart is. All of the games, except for the wavebird thing, did not drop in price. The one's i checked are still $19.99.

It could be that they manually marked up the games at your local K-Mart maybe?

The clearance is still YMMV on some prices, as some games I checked last month like Metal Slug Advance were still ringing up at full price and it sounds like your K-Mart is one of those K-Marts

I just checked my local KMarts, and as of today nothing has dropped to the new June prices in St. Petersburg, FL. I had games scanned at several different price levels.

Here's a few confirmed drops from $5 to $2:

PS2
LoTR: TTT

XBox
Blinx
Blinx 2
Crash Twinsanity

PS2 Conflict: Vietnam is still $2 and XBox Men of Valor is still $5

Yep, price drops confirmed here. The manager put out the clearance bin, it was actually a bit disappointing after the wait. If you want Soul Calibur II, this is the sale for you! There were over a dozen of them still, but they're all accurately priced at $2, so I doubt they'll last long. Here's what I confirmed:

XB Crash Twinsanity $2
XB Men of Valor $2
PS2 Activision Anthology $5.99
PS1 Syphon Flter 2 $2.99
PS1 Gran Turismo 2 $2.99
PS1 Crash Bash $2.99
PS2 Eye Toy Groove (no cam) $3
PS2 Eye Toy Groove (box w/cam) $15
PS2 Soul Calibur II $2

Stuff I confirmed from my UPC sheet:
XB DoA 3 $2
PS2 Ratchet and Clank $2
GBA FF Tactics Adv $3.50
XBox Men of Valor is still $5
You might want to check that again soon, maybe the new price didn't come down to your store yet (or however it works). I just bought it at $2 tonight and have the receipt to prove it.

Odd, 'cause that was the only game that rang up at $5 for me a little before noon today.
Odd, 'cause that was the only game that rang up at $5 for me a little before noon today.
My receipt is dated 6:01pm. Could be something to that.

Maybe some store systems are taking longer to show the price drops then others? I'll try again tomorrow or Wednesday and see if the new prices show at my local K-Mart

About the price drops.....

The prices do not drop until the electronics department gets the new price sheets and scans the new prices with the "gun". Once that occurs, the price drops are live in the system.

This is what happened when I used a scanner for GC Baiten Katos and it rang up $7. Once the associate scanned the new price sheet, Baiten rang up at $3.

Not likely, since the store I was in today had no clue that the games were clearanced in the first place (dealt with both the F/T dept employee and dept manager today) and the other four formerly $5 titles I got at the same time rang up at $2.

I just got 8 games and 2 Eyetoys for under $35 with tax.

Here's the list of what I remember from the new sheets and prices:

PS2 Eyetoy Camera- $6
GC Baiten Katos- $3
GC F Zero- $2
PS2 Jak II- $2
GBA Wing Commander- $3
PS2 Ace Combat 4- $10
PS2 Eyetoy w/ Groove- $15
PS2 Eyetoy w/ Antigrav- $15

One final note: Any games that were under $3 previously have NOT dropped in price. They scan on the scanners as "Check Shelves for Pricing". They are the same price as before. I confirmed this with PS2 Eyetoy Groove, which rang up at $3.
The prices do not drop until the electronics department gets the new price sheets and scans the new prices with the "gun". Once that occurs, the price drops are live in the system.
I really don't think it works that way. Of the KMarts I've been to in two states, only one of them had any idea there were any clearances at all (and the closest one pulled a bunch of clearance out today). If they had to scan price sheets to make it happen there would be much less surprise at the prices.

The "Check Shelves" ones seem to be worse than that for me. Eye Toy Groove w/o camera scanned $3 at the price checker, not CS. The ones that scanned "Check Shelves" at the price scanner also showed up as not in the system at the register so the clerk tried to sell it to me at the (higher) clearance tagged price.
I think I might go for baten kaitos for $3 even though I'd probably never play it :p.
Good luck finding it. The pickings are getting very, very slim. The price drops helped, but it will thin out again very soon.
What R & C is clearance? I did not see any on the original list..
Just Ratchet & Clank, no subtitle. UPC 711719719922

I went tonight and the guy already filled a cart with clearanced GC games - all correctly marked. They were in the backroom but he recognized me and let me pick at them. He said the rest will be out this weekend.

*ALSO* I don't see these on the master list, but i saw PS2 Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Terminator 3 : (whatever one has aaaanold face with red on cover) for 3.50. Both were combos with a 3rd party controller.
About the price drops.....

This is what happened when I used a scanner for GC Baiten Katos and it rang up $7. Once the associate scanned the new price sheet, Baiten rang up at $3.
This is correct - at least it is one method. I had a store that did not have them in the system. The woman checked with the gun and the prices were not valid. She did not have a sheet, so she set the gun on a different setting - I believe she said to set it to check in there are any pending "PCL's". Then it showed if there was, and it had the benefit of showing the quantity in stock. She was then manually able to lower them.

I almost punched out an old woman who wouldn't change the prices. She just kept feeding me BS after BS, so I guess I'll call a manager tomorrow and get a giftcard to pay for the items there when I go back to get them after they've dropped properly.

Every time I think I'm done, it draws me back in! I'll have to go back and check my combos (and that other Eye Toy, don't remember if it's Antigrav). I don't know which ones were in there, but I guess I'll check them all. Does anyone have UPCs? I didn't check them before because I had no info on them and no real reason to think they were clearanced. Thanks!

Indeed - they wont drop further because that was already 90% off. If the tags arent up-to-date, you could have a hassle. In my case, Outlaw Golf 2 rang up that way, and the cashier was cool enough to put them in at $1.00 each
They don't adjust.

You have 7 days to return/rebuy if your store is down with that

Dave
Well. In that case I'll just return Soul Calibur II for a full refund (30-90 day window, right?) and then walk to the electronics dept and pick another one up since they still have some left ;)

I scored the last DS Zookeeper in the Avenel, NJ KMart for $2. They were pretty much wiped out of the other titles, however. Thanks, OP! :applause:

I was considering picking up the T3 combo, but then I checked the review on GameRankings (it received a 40%). Maybe worth it for EB trade fodder, though...

This sucks, my store still had tons of these games that just dropped probably about 25 or so to $2 and $3. They had the sheet in the electronics department, but there was nothing to scan. Anyway she called up the front desk asking if the person updated the PCLs on Monday and someone said over the phone it's done so I was denied.

I got my hands on the sheet for a bit though and looked through it and they had all the games I grabbed that dropped from the 12th listed, but they didn't drop them in the store and obviously haven't updated their PCLs. It is so fricking ridiculous to see all these games and they are still giving me the run around.

I guess I'll have to head back in a few days and hopefully get someone different who can help me better.
Anyway if people are curious, I saw on the sheet that $10 games dropped to $4 and the $17 Wavebird/MP combo is now $7.
I still have no idea what this "Wavebird" is exactly...
It's the wireless controller made by Nintendo for the Gamecube--released years and years ago...

I highly doubt my kmart has updated the system yet, as none of the tags were correct on the games, ill wait a bit and then run back for more games!!!!!!!
