Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:
It's probably cleaned out by now, right? Which Kmart was it? Just trying to save me a trip there ;)
This was the Kmart up by the airport (122nd and Sandy I think?). There might be a GBA game or two there, and there's plenty of games the guy didn't scan that might be clearanced. But I think I got most of it. They had a TON more a few weeks ago and I was waiting for the last drop - this must have been the last Kmart in the country to do that drop! It looks like most of that stuff got snagged recently or by the employees though.

Well I went by k-mart today and didn't find much, this k-mart keeps their prices marked up to date though which is probably why they don't hang on to stuff long. They had 4 metroid/wavebird bundles still for $19.99 and from the price scanner in the store the mario party 4 bundles have been pennied out so good luck on that if you find one.

I did see that they had Mario Power Tennis (GC) marked down to $25 and they only had two so I picked one up. I even went through the clusterfuck of games on the bottom of the rack and didn't see anything (I was only checking GC this time though). Mario Tennis for $25 seems like a pretty good deal from looking on pricegrabber and froogle, somebody tell me if I missed a better deal so I can take it back before I open it :p.

Confirming what's on the list I saw wind waker and mario golf for $12 and also luigi's mansion was $12.

A few more to add:

Mario Power Tennis Gamecube $25
Pokemon Leaf Green and Fire Red GBA $24
Zelda LTTP GBA: $7 (YMMV? was tagged $7 but rang up $20, employee adjusted it)
Zelda II GBA $7
Metroid GBA $7
Dr Mario GBA $7

So I asked this lady to help me out by pricechecking a few games, and afterwards she was like "You know, there is a scanner over there you can use".
I wasn't sure what to say to that one. Didn't think she would appreciate me asking her for her key to the game display...

The Classic NES Ice Climbers was $6 at my K-Mart. Are you sure that those are $7? It seems like they'd have the same price...

I got myself Mario Golf for the Cube. I'm just thrilled that, for once, my K-Mart not only had the games but is participating in the sale. :)
Has anyone ever tried putting the clearance games on layaway until the next drop hits? Just an idea.
Clearance isn't eligible for layaway, so that would be pretty YMMV.
Clearance isn't eligible for layaway, so that would be pretty YMMV.
And wouldn't they look at you like you were crazy? Who can't pay $2? Why would you need to put it on layaway?
And wouldn't they look at you like you were crazy? Who can't pay $2? Why would you need to put it on layaway?
I think the point was to put games that aren't $2 yet, from the new list of clearance games, until they are $2.

wow this site is awesome , i went to kmart here in killeen texas and scored f-zero gp legend $2 and king of fighters max. impact Ps2 $7!!! My question is what does YMMV and PCL stand for , and it seems like the employees dont know what im talking about?? any help would be nice??
Clearance isn't eligible for layaway, so that would be pretty YMMV.
Just checked...no dice here

Another Add to the list:

Zelda 4 Swords (Big Box) Gamecube - $10

Did you ask the employees what YMMV stood for?

It stands for Your Mileage MAy Vary

got to love how workers make up their own prices

women was subbing for worker on break and saw Final fantasy tac. advance.

woman takes price gun and she goes 12 bucks .

i saw some other games but she doesnt have the keys till the dude comes back. dude comes back and the lady leaves and ask how much for soul cal2 for the cube. Dude goes Buck

then i ask what other games and they go all the games without a price tag is a buck. so i grab 11 games (got one gamecube game for 3) I then ask how much for that FFT game. Dude walks over and goes BUCK

just funny how a game went from 12 bucks to a buck depending on the worker

My Kmart has a mish-mash of all sorts of prices that are all over the board, some are up to date clearence priced while others are months behind. They a Brave Fencer Musashi (SP?) marked as clearence for $25 and Eyetoy w/ Antigrav was full price a month ago then dropped to $25 two weeks ago and then today was $15.
How hard is it to update the freakin' product every week with the correct price as set by corporate. I work at Home Depot and we have four, yes only 4 people, that hit the whole store with price checks every week. That's 50,000 different SKUs that need to be checked and they get it done. Sorry about the rant, long day.
I also saw today Rainbow 6 3: Lockdown (Xbox) for $16.

Well my K-Mart in Greenville, MS had a pretty decent selection of clearance games, but they all had reduced stickers with prices $16+ and when the clerk would ring them up it would ask for the price and he would just enter what it had on the front. I told him it should've been $2 a game and he called the manager and she denied it. Sucks because they had a lot of clearance games. Only 2 K-Marts in MS that I know of and this is the closest.

*gasp* Did you see any Shadow Hearts or Onimusha's over there. Damn, I thought no one from a little town like Killeen would check this site... No offense.

Dude, its K-mart. Every single one I have ever been in look straight up ghetto to the max. And all the time, the games just seem so tossed in there like they were just thrown into the glass case directly from the box. I gave up when I went to the one closest to me. Though I may have to check a Super K thats gonna be ni the area I'm having to run errands at later on
And all the time, the games just seem so tossed in there like they were just thrown into the glass case directly from the box.
Those are the best ones...if you can get someone to let you open the case up and browse. Ive always found a stack of games to buy whenever i found an unorganized store.

Never thought of that, but everytime its some ghetto bitch that couldn't be bothered to even move

True that.

The Super K I went to yesterday had at least 10 clearance games from our lists here but all rang up retail, without exception. That's the only KMart in Scottsdale too so that sucks. I did find a Baten Kaitos a few weeks ago that they had marked at $3, but that's all I've ever found here.

Anyone else in PHX Metro find anything?

HAHAHAHA I ran into one of the more disgruntled Kmart employees today. I found a PS1 multitap, which some reported getting for $3. It still rang up $18 at the one I had it PC'd at.

I found a copy of that one XBox game, Vietcong:purple Haze. It was no longer in the system, marked @ $5. It rang up 'price req'. I told the clerk the price is no longer in the system, to which he replied deadpan "It's $5."

I also had him PC a copy of Riddick for XBox, which I returned to this store 1-2 weeks ago in order to get it for the $2 price. But before I had him check it at the register, I used one of the scanners and it came up $19.99. WTFH!?!?!?!?!?!

It still had an $8 sticker on it from when I returned it to this Kmart for my original $5.

I guess if any CAG goes in there trying to buy that copy, it's gonna come up $19.99 now. Sorry folks.

its even funnier how fast u had those up on ebay

lol. . .ebay, exactly. . . . reminds of the dink at the circuit city in the ghetto who tried telling me that he was buying a shopping cart full of games to use as gifts for his family for the upcoming holiday season. He then proceeds to pull out the Paypal credit card to pay. I tried tracking him down on ebay. . . . .

Don't knock it til you try it.

Almost every K-Mart in my area has several $2 games left, but all the employees I've dealt with lately have refused to sell them for less than the sticker price. I guess I've been lucky to get what I have so far, but it's quite frustrating when the workers don't know what they're doing.

I don't even bother to try to get games that are out of the system. At one store I was at a few weeks ago, I saw some Golden Nugget and F-14 games for GBA and since they were tagged at full price I knew there was no way I was going to convince the cashier they were $1.50 each. I mean at some K-Marts, they get suspicous at the prices when the games are IN the system and ring up for $2 - $3 and think it's an error so convincing someone that a game stickered full price is under $5 is very difficult IMO.

wow, my K-Mart really blows. i just went there today and out of all the games they had, NONE of them were part of the clearance. i tried splinter cell but it came up as 19.99. plus the cashier was talkin about the 360 and wii with his uber cool computer gaming friends and was one of those "i know it all" assholes. deez nuts K-Mart!
Almost every K-Mart in my area has several $2 games left, but all the employees I've dealt with lately have refused to sell them for less than the sticker price. I guess I've been lucky to get what I have so far, but it's quite frustrating when the workers don't know what they're doing.
I feel your pain onikage. It's like they've never heard of the internet. Most employees I've dealt with act as if there is no way someone on the "outside" could know more about the workings of their store. I guess that is why eventually they will go under and succumb to Wal-Mart. I know alot of members are not fans of Wal-Mart, but I have to give them credit when it comes to listening to the customer.

On Sunday I found a Mario Party 4/Wavebird combo. I thought I'd get lucky but it was already out of the system and the last tag was $50 so that's what they charged me for it. I didn't get it but it still pains me that if I had gone a week earlier it would have been $7.

Most of the $2-3 stuff is gone already, and their attention span over there won't last long enough to see the newest drops get to the same prices - so we should be ok.

At what point do the games marked down to $2/$3 leave the system(or are all the previous clearance games now taken out)?

Is there a set amount of time they ring up at the lowest clearance price or are they removed once a new clearance begins?

I think its random. Before I even knew of the clearance system, I remember buying GBA stuff like Operation Armored Liberty and DBZ Taiketsu for christmas presents because they were $3 a pop. They had only made it down to $1 in May, and they should have been out of the system if they were progressing normally down the chart.

There are always oddities, like why Mark of Kri is still stuck at 21 fucking dollars

I had then scan Mark of Kri as well and it's still stuck at $21 as well.

I did have a very good CAG day however.

Picked up:

Guitar Hero $35
Eye Toy Grove $9
Eye Toy camera $3
PSP Battery $4
E-reader $4
Xbox Live kit w/ PGR and Xbox Arcade game $17.49

They had a few other things that I hope I can see later for a cheaper price,

like:

All 3 Donkey Kongas w/ Bongos ranging in prices from $25 - $40 -$45.
Xbox Live Gold 12 month w/ expired rebate $34.99

Now as far as the Guitar Hero is concerned, this one's a YMMV. I had another store scan it but it came up as full price $69.99. The girl did tell me that the department manager was on vacation. Whatever that means, I was hoping to pick up an extra controller and just trade the game in.
Here's to hoping that they drop soon.

With the post on FW, anytime someone posts the full list (as long as it isn't in the OP), just rate that post negative. Someone already voted it negative and with my negative vote, the post dissapeared.
Almost every K-Mart in my area has several $2 games left, but all the employees I've dealt with lately have refused to sell them for less than the sticker price.
I find this funny, because I brought this up at work the other day. People make a big fuss when the price is more than what's on the tag, so why shouldn't the store get pissed off when the tag wasn't updated and they get paid less? Why can't they say oh but the price tag said blah blah blah. I find it sad that it was a joke argument but this K-Mart actually goes through with it.

I don't understand, can't they look up the last clearance price in their scanners?? Or did the guy I deal with just happen to be the best Kmart employee in the country?. He knew exactly what each game would be by taking 10% of the original value - he was very helpful about checking a bunch of games for me too.

But I do know they can look up the prices using the hand scanner - at a different Kmart I found a Starfox Adventures guide a few weeks ago. Fortunately it wasn't tagged (and thankfully guides don't have printed prices!). It took a while, but they were able to look up the last price on this item that must have been out of the system for YEARS. What was that price? 10 fucking cents! Don't know that I'll ever have a use for it, but I considered that quite a score .

Guides have printed prices. They're right above the UPC on the back cover of most guides. Same place you find the price on most books and magazines.

Not the Starfox Adventures guide! Maybe Nintendo Power ones don't? Anyway, I was sure it didn't (just checked - it does not have a price) and just assumed all guides didn't (after all I usually buy them for a penny and pay no attention to any prices they might have :D). I'm glad THIS ONE didn't then, because she probably would have offered it at whatever price that was instead of researching the last clearance price.

The point, though, was that they CAN research the last clearance price, even on something that hasn't been in the system for a while. So don't let them offer up those $2 clearance games for $19.99 or whatever the tags say when they don't scan - ask them to look up the last clearance price. I know this will be very difficult to pull off with some Kmart employees, but it is worth a shot :D.

I might try that, though I was mainly buying those games for the 3 for $10 extra deal @ EB, which is now over. I guess I could save them for next time.

All of my Nintendo guides have prices printed on them. Just checked the ones I have sitting next to my desk: Animal Crossing DS and New Super Mario Bros. It would be weird not to have prices on them since, as a rule, most stores don't put tags on them unless they are selling them below cover price. The good news is, most cashiers probably couldn't find the tiny price above the UPC. I can't tell you how many thousands of people have brought up books and magazines to me at our comic stores over the years because they couldn't find the cover price and wanted to know how much they were. They always feel dumb when we point straight to the price on the cover, which is usually in fine print in or above the UPC bar.
