It had to be done, this intellectual, talented, modern day poet finally gets an official thread here on CAG.
I stopped reading after that.

Okay, so after doing some market research(asking my eight year old neice), it seems this Wayne fellow is popular with the grade school crowd(and judging from the OP, apparently the grade school intelligence equivalent as well).

I prefer Jay-Z which will be dropping the Blueprint 3 this year.
Other than that I'll be waiting for Lupe Fiasco's LupEND and Kanye's CD in June.
Maybe Detox from Dr. Dre too.

But here's a Video to add to the topic

he isn't the greatest rapper... but definitely the most popular and he released some great songs over the last year.... I took the best of the unreleased and the best of the Carter 3 to make what I call Carter 3.5 and it's a pretty awesome listen.

OP, go die in a fire. Any member of Tribe would smoke circles around Lil' Wayne. He's a corporate tool, plain and simple.

I remember back in like 2002 when 500 Degreez came out, everybody was talking about how much Wayne sucked, and now everyone's on his nuts. Funny now things change.

I didn't have a problem with mainstream hip-hop being a stinkin' turd before, but the fact some people seem to think Lil' Wayne is legitimately talented, blows my mind.

There we go edited for approval.

He made shit songs that no one could understand. atleast you can understand what Jay-Z is trying to say. That fool talks with marbles in his mouth.

This dude is TERRIBLE. When you release an assload of mixtapes, it just means that most of your stuff will suck. Quality over quantity, Wayne.

I don't understand why the fuck everyone has to complain about music someone likes. I like him. I don't go into the metal thread and just complain about how bad it sucks. This is a thread to discuss his music, not how much you hate it. I am fairly sure we could all care less if you wan't to hop onto the "we hate him" train. In my opinion, he makes great music that is constantly being played at parties and clubs. End of story. Everyone has an opinion and you don't need to shove yours onto others.

Also, sneakypenguin, you are an idiot. Think before you post.

I think the problem is the fact that he's being proclaimed "The Greatest Rapper Alive," not that someone likes his music.

Cry harder and take some of your own advice. We're not complaining because he's shit (true though it may be), we're complaining because he's being presented as an intellectual and the second coming of music. You would've seen that if you read the thread.

I can read you praising slavery. Kidding or not, that is just something you don't say, period.

Got the Pyramids built.

It's funny that you bring that up, because it's this type of music that perpetuates racism.

Nani?
lol seriously though Wayne is hot but he going commercial I liked wayne back when the block was hot and his new stuff is hot too but pls wayne stop with the machine that changes your voice it doesnt work for you
Lil Wayne makes me wish slavery didn't stop.
Seriously.

Wayne's okay. Although I liked him a lot more before millions of white girls started playing his shit.

I'm interested in this supposed "rock" album. I love rock / rap mash ups and hopefully this one won't disappoint. Other than that the entire Carter series was trash.

If the Prom Queen song is any indicator, it's going to be horrible. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Doesn't sound good at all.

Is anyone else convinced that he's completely crazy? And not in a cool badass type of way either.

I recently saw an interview with him and he's just... crazy.

Not oh shit, it's OBD crazy or tracy morgan crazy?

Lil Wayne is my favorite rapper. I've been listening to him since The Block Is Hot, I have heard his new rock album, haven't listened to it too much, but it is different I'll say that. I am more of a fan of his hip hop and I hope he don't stay with rock too long

His new rock album isn't him either....he doesn't play guitar....the dude just sits down and doesn't even pluck a string....he has back-ups play guitars....
we're complaining because he's being presented as an intellectual
What disqualifies him from being an intellectual? Because he's a rapper? Because of the songs he puts out? Because of the way he dresses?

The very fact that you think Lil Wayne isn't an intellectual, in fact, shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

He was apart of the talented & gifted program in school, drama club.

Signed to a record label at an extremely young age (he was first rejected and left daily freestyles on answering machines until they gave him a shot)

Has created a persona that millions of people love (yes, it is essentially a large stage act with almost anyone in the entertainment industry)

Not to mention constant hits, awards, tons of money.

Sounds pretty damn smart to me.

No its because he's popular and you know 99% of cag cannot support anything remotely popular. It's gotta be some off the wall horrible sounding indy music for cag to accept it. But once that indy artist got popular he/she would instantly become an unacceptable sell-out.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that the people who are accusing him of not being intellectual are fans of that flobot garbage

Flobot is terrible. I'm saying he's not an intellectual because his rhymes and rants are complete and utter tripe.

Dropped out of school at 14 to sell drugs.

Signed to a record label owned by a close personal friend of his.

Constant hits? No one gave a shit about him until "Lollipop", and that song sucked dick. I'll be impressed when he wins an award that means anything. A Source award doesn't mean shit.

Insane Clown Posse also created a persona that fat kids go crazy for. Doesn't make them any more credible or talented.

that was the retard classes where I come from

anywho...lil wayne is NOT an intellectual...dropping out of school and criminal records prove this

EDIT: I can't believe this thread is still alive

also, back when I was younger and listened to rap (Ghetto Boys, NWA, Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg) lil wayne would have been considered a lil bitch

Wow, I didn't even know this shit, but that makes him even worse.
As an ICP fan, you are now required to drink a few gallons of chlorine.
Fixed. I think that makes more sense now.

Gotta think about the future, y'know?
Lil Wayne is killing rap.
Too late, Soulja Boy killed it a while ago.

Rap as a Genre is a complete joke.

Yea, rap is a complete joke.

Hip hop on the other hand is still well and alive. Go check out the Hip Hop thread. No mainstream bs there.

Little Wayne=PURE GARBAGE compared to the likes of 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z and Nas. He sounds like a dyslexic retard with a speech impediment when he rhymes. Seriously, what is wrong with his vocal cords?
