So it seems like a lot of you guys prefer the physical media over the digital downloads? Doesn't it become a pain carrying around all of the different games? I really wish the prices of games were 1/2 if you downloaded them but I hate the idea of not being abble to resell a game you finish. I mean, I'm sure Uncharted will be fun and all but I doubt I'l play through it more than once so I'd be a fool to not buy the game card... iPhone games are so cheap you don't really care.
My feelings switch back and forth on this topic. I LOVE the convenience of digital purchases and being able to have multiple games stored in the device at the same time so I can easily and quickly switch games as the mood strikes me. This is one of the reasons I love my PSPgo.
However, I really like buying physical games because you can collect, trade and sell them. Plus, they go on sale much more frequently, and at much greater discounts, than digital games. You can pick up older games on the used market at a pretty good discount and you can also pick up older games that (for no damn good reason) aren't available in digital form.
Or course, I HATED UMDs....WORST FORMAT EVER! Big, bulky, fragile and no way to store your saves with the game. Stupid, stupid stupid.
If Sony was smart, they'd make it easy to browse through your digital game library and provide a view that makes it look like your browsing through a bunch of physical game cases so you at least get the feeling that you really have a game collection in a way that makes up for not having anything physical to collect.
I usually only buy a digital game when I can get them at a price that is quite a bit lower than the physical version. After all, why the hell should I pay the same price as a physical game when I lose my ability to resell the game and it costs Sony and the publishers far less to sell the electronic version. IMO, the discount for the digital version (or the premium for the physical version) should be at least 30% and hopefully closer to 50% so it becomes a very easy decision for people to make when deciding between the two.
I think the future will be only electronic distribution...maybe not next year, but probably within 10 years. There will still be retail purchases, but you'll probably be buying the codes at a discounted price compared to PSN. Hopefully by that time Sony will have stopped screwing us over with way overpriced proprietary storage cards (dream on).
