The Official PlayStation Vita Thread - 11/4: FW 3.00 Coming Just in Time for the PS4 Launch!

Shoplift-ability should be a non-issue in regards to the size of the product. Any B&M store that I can think of have their games sitting either in a glass case or behind a counter.

You work(ed?) in a game store, so you should know that people will jam anything into their pockets that isn't nailed down (game in it or not).

There's also a size/price associating. People want to feel value in their products, so the case helps overcome trepidation of paying $40 for such a small thing.

Lastly, the size has to be big enough to make it a 'case' in design - room for art, photos of gameplay, and descriptions (and all the other techno-legal jargon noone ever looks at).

I don't dare argue this is the smallest a game case could or should be, but there are considerations other than "cart small, so box small."

Both my Target and my shiny newly opened Walmart have some behind glass cases and more on the free standing endcap displays. Probably to promote the system though so it may not last (especially if they get shoplifted, or attempted shoplifted. lol)

Personally, I think it's funny they have a little 'notch' in their for manuals when it seems like no Vita games will even come with one. Perhaps a place to hold the card with the 'online pass'?

I like the game cases. Nice and small! Who needs cases taking up so much damn room?

It's there to hold online passes or whatever other slips of paper that will be included with the games.

Edit: Nice. Lumines ES is out for shipping right now from Amazon when their estimate was the 22nd, though it shipped from West Virginia. Uncharted is the last game on my list and the tracking only shows it being in CA on the 15th, so I hope it arrives on the 21st.

So it seems like a lot of you guys prefer the physical media over the digital downloads? Doesn't it become a pain carrying around all of the different games? I really wish the prices of games were 1/2 if you downloaded them but I hate the idea of not being abble to resell a game you finish. I mean, I'm sure Uncharted will be fun and all but I doubt I'l play through it more than once so I'd be a fool to not buy the game card... iPhone games are so cheap you don't really care.

My feelings switch back and forth on this topic. I LOVE the convenience of digital purchases and being able to have multiple games stored in the device at the same time so I can easily and quickly switch games as the mood strikes me. This is one of the reasons I love my PSPgo.

However, I really like buying physical games because you can collect, trade and sell them. Plus, they go on sale much more frequently, and at much greater discounts, than digital games. You can pick up older games on the used market at a pretty good discount and you can also pick up older games that (for no damn good reason) aren't available in digital form.

Or course, I HATED UMDs....WORST FORMAT EVER! Big, bulky, fragile and no way to store your saves with the game. Stupid, stupid stupid.

If Sony was smart, they'd make it easy to browse through your digital game library and provide a view that makes it look like your browsing through a bunch of physical game cases so you at least get the feeling that you really have a game collection in a way that makes up for not having anything physical to collect.

I usually only buy a digital game when I can get them at a price that is quite a bit lower than the physical version. After all, why the hell should I pay the same price as a physical game when I lose my ability to resell the game and it costs Sony and the publishers far less to sell the electronic version. IMO, the discount for the digital version (or the premium for the physical version) should be at least 30% and hopefully closer to 50% so it becomes a very easy decision for people to make when deciding between the two.

I think the future will be only electronic distribution...maybe not next year, but probably within 10 years. There will still be retail purchases, but you'll probably be buying the codes at a discounted price compared to PSN. Hopefully by that time Sony will have stopped screwing us over with way overpriced proprietary storage cards (dream on).

I tend not to buy Digital based on the fact that digital will eventually phase out a lot of jobs (pressing, shipping, retail, etc...). I know some people dont really care but to me it matters. Another reason is that I actually have the copy of the game. I dont have to be tied down to someone else having my game on their servers.

I'll get the games I want now physically while those I can wait on could go either way depending on whether Sony or a retailer has a good sale when I'm interested in getting them.

I do find it funny that GameStop's kind of forced to offer PSN codes for Vita games at the discounted price that is offered on the PS Store alongside physical copies at a higher price. It'll be interesting to see if they show any of those games on shelves like they do for the other platforms, which I'd bet that they just have the non-discounted games on there.

I'm taking physical vs digital on a case by case basis. I'm going to get games that are quick pick up and play experiences digitally so I always will have them with me (Lumines:ES). Big games like an Uncharted or sports games I will buy physical copies of. I have bought so many games on Steam in the last few years I don't really have any fears about going digital anymore. I never trade in or sell any of my games so that's not a concern with me.

Given the cost of the memory cards for the Vita, it's rather erroneous to call the digital copies "cheaper" or "discounted." The $5 difference is merely shifted to the item needed to store the copy of the game.

So if my $5 premium allows me to save precious memory card space, not have to deal with software to juggle/manage programs, and resell/trade my games, I'm all for it.

As a former psp go owner (traded mine in towards my Vita), I hated that they had you buy the balls on the digital download front. I hope that Sony will learn that it not only needs to have discounted prices on digital copies of games, it also needs to have true sales on the games in order to make digital copies more attractive. I am not confident that this will happen though.

For example we already know that physical copies of the games will be on sale tomorrow as part of at least one B2G1 Free sale and Toysrus' spend 50/get 20 promotion. So far there is no solid indication that the digital copies will be similarly promoted or put on sale.

I'm not trying to throw stones at Sony, but as a company I often perceive them to be a company that considers themselves to be cutting edge but in actuality is a bit behind. They recognize that digital media is both the present and the future, but they aren't playing by the digital media pricing realities.

So with all of that being said, I think I'll be primarily going with the physical media.

On another topic, does anyone else need steroid strength just to get their Vita into the FEB case?

Well, I found a Gamestop with an extra FEB Vita. I called yesterday and they told me they didn't have any extras beyond the preorders but today I was near there so I decided to stop in. This time the manager was working and she told me they were shipped an extra beyond their preorders so I got one.

This is exactly why buying physical copies will always be cheaper. Retailers always have sales/clearance, used copies, etc. It was terrible with the PspGo being locked into the ridiculous full retail PSN prices regardless of how long ago the game was released.

I'm a bit confused.

Can anyone tell me if I have a previously downloaded a psp game on my pc (in media go) or on my ps3, can I immediately transfer that to my vita or must it be redownloaded?

Thanks Frisky. I think I'm just redownloading everything to my ps3. I had downloaded most things via pc (using media go) but I don't really get how content manager works in connection with media go (if at all).
Is it installed or is it still in the install bubble? The former isn't transferable and has to be redownloaded,
I wish I had read that earlier prior to spending an hour figuring out why the hell my games wouldn't transfer. I eventually stumbled on it after having to re-download all my games to my PS3.

Hey I have a quick question that will make or break a purchase for me. Me and my gf will be sharing a Vita, can we both have our PSN ids on the system? I don't mind signing one out and then signing in another, this is for trophy purposes. My next question is I read the thing about trophies. Will we both be able to earn trophies for the game? Or will it just let one user earn them? We both like earning trophies and just one of us able to won't fly. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Nope, one account per Vita. I have a feeling you can blame gamesharing abuse for this.

Yeah I understand about game sharing, but that really sucks. Really is not fair for us honest people.

I personally don't see how multi-user trophies is a make or break thing over a whole system. Seems like such a minor thing to me.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I find it disappointing b/c it means I won't be able to purchase games via the JPN PSN store for the vita.

Honestly, that will probably set them back $50 lifetime from me, so it's not a huge loss on their end...
Nope, one account per Vita. I have a feeling you can blame gamesharing abuse for this.
Even so, I have to think that setting an arbitrary limit (like 2 accounts per system instead of 1) may have been enough of an inconvenience to accomplish the goal. Doesn't affect me directly, but it is annoying to have just one more negative compounded on the system for people to be upset about.

Any word on the ps3/vita mlb 12 cross play / discounts?

It's not a huge deal, but she likes trophies as much as me. And she just hates not having as many as me. So she will be crushed that her Katamari trophies will be registered on my account.

Just wondering, but are you guys going to buy screen protectors for your Vitas? I might consider getting a cheap pack for maybe under $5 until the good stuff comes out like Zagg or Ghost Armor.

The official Sony screen protector is actually very good and easy to put on. On top of that it's reasonably priced. Amazon has them for $10.

It was hinted upon by their community manager in one of the preview videos, so my guess is that there could be a retailer-specific deal somewhere. The only way they could universally offer a deal is if they physically bundled them together, which they're not doing. I just hope Best Buy does something since I have them pre-ordered there due to having credit.

In the PS3 copies, they could have an insert with a coupon code for the digital Vita version off PSN/SEN (like maybe 50% off or so).

None of the stores near me have put Vita games on the shelf, so I have a dumb question. Are retail stores going to be doing the physical copies and those download cards like they tried with the pspGo?

I have only been to two Targets since the 15th, but only one had games and such when I was there. The one that did didn't have any for of Vita download cards that I saw, only like 8 or so physical games.
For anyone that's going to be hunting Targets for the b2g1 deal this week, I setup a Google Docs spreadsheet with all of the in-store dpcis that we know of along with stock tracking links. Hope it helps someone out.

Thanks bruh, confirms that my Target has UMVC3. My GameStop only got reserves or something. Gonna try today or tomorrow and bug them if they tell me Wednesday knowing these games aren't street dated.

got back from target about an hour ago. the games were in the back, and they weren't ready.

I got lumines, uncharted, wipeout, hot shots and 2 mvc3.

the register wouldn't do the discount, do he did it by hand, and rang in the 2 mvc3 for free.

I've been searching like mad for ZHP for psp, best I could do was $36 from an scalper on Ebay. Then I realized I could pay $30 and play it on either psp or psv which is awesome, because I won't miss the UMD loading noise.

Also, as a game collector I've tortured myself passing on "no manual" games and now with vita, all there is to look out for is the cover art which is also awesome... sort of.

I tried the demo unit at GS today and was surprised at how cheap it feels in the hand. Every review I have read is saying that is feels really sturdy but I thought it felt really plasticy? if that's a word. The buttons and analog sticks felt really god but I thought holding the console was uncomfortable. I thought that because the console is pretty big it would feel good in my big hands but it didn't. It didn't help that I played FIFA and I had to keep my fingers off the back touch panel or my players would shoot. The screen looked gorgeous and so did FIFA. It threw me off because this seems to be the same version as on the PS3 but I kept trying to press L2 and R2. Maybe it's just me but I like my portable consoles and home console controllers to have some weight to them and the Vita seemed too light even with that security cable attached to it at GS, that's the same complaint I've always had about the Dual Shock 3.

I have a solution for your problem . . . should increase the weight substantially, and add grips as well:
FINALLY! Got all the trophies for Welcome Park. Damn that puzzle challenge to hell, took a good 2 hours to finally get it

Decided to skip on the Target B2G1 sale since the lack of game selection and my local Best Buys didn't want to price match.

Picked up Uncharted at Toysrus with the screen filter for the $20 gift card . Will use the $20 gift card to purchase a PSN card to pick up Escape Plan and maybe Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack.

So, yeah. I went to TRU this afternoon, where they had the games out, but no accessories. I went to Wal-Mart afterward, where they had the accessories, but no games. Weird.

Anyway, if anyone is looking, I was surprised to find that my Wal-Mart stocked the Hori hard case. It was one of the very few non-Sony accessories they had.

Oh, and I would guess that TRU (and likely other places) are holding game stock back for Wednesday, because most Vita games had about 1-3 copies available today. I picked the last Marvel vs. Capcom, and Lumines was completely sold out. I can't imagine they've sold that many so far, so I'm hoping they'll restock later this week.

My TRU only had screen filters, 8 GB memory card, cradle, and the carry case as accessories. Probably at least five of each. As for the games, they had about 8 different games with 5 in stock for each.

No stores here outside of Best Buy and Gamestop had Vita games out, but most of them had the accessories.

Either way, hoping i can get to Targets early on Wednesday to get the 3 games i want

Preodered Vita from Target because of $20 GC and free 4gb memory card.
Will pick up game and screen protector from TRU for free $20 GC.
Will pass on B2G1 and save my money for games that are coming in the next few months. Now to decide on which case and which game ( debating between GA or UMvC or maybe something else)

So I finally decided today that I'm going to pick up a Wi-Fi Vita at Target on Wednesday so I can get the free 4GB memory card with it.

Since pre orders stopped at Target, If I go in right when Target opens on wednesday do you guys figure I'll have any trouble getting a Vita? You think they are gonna sell out if I didn't preorder one?
